As much as there are lots of companies who file a H1B visa (the visa that enables you work and stay in the USA for 3 years), there are tons of others who won't because it's easier employing a PR or citizen who they don't have to stress themselves filing anything for, than you.

I'm not sure about that inviting your family over on H1B, but before graduation, acquire relevant industry skills and network properly to get jobs in companies that can file for you. There's never a guarantee to it's best you stop believing there's a queue of jobs waiting in USA, else you might return after 60 days of graduation.

Depending on specialization and networking sense (plus relevant skills acquired), people experience varying struggles to secure these jobs. So start making headway for the end goal from the start of your program.

Before your employer apply for H1-B visa, I believe one can be on OPT, which last for 1 year and 3 years if you are a STEM student/graduate.

So after the 3 years of OPT, you can convince your employer to retain you and apply for H1-B visa which is valid for 3 years. And after it’s expiration, it can be renewed or extended for another 3 years, though your application for renewal might not get approved all the time. It’s competitive.

So basically, a STEM graduate got 9 years of stay after studies, all things being equal

My visa was approved on 20th May 2021. Going for an MBA program at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. A big thank you to everyone on this platform for always willing to help. I’ll share my transcript soon.

However, My friend was denied on the same day and would like to reapply.

How soon can he reapply since resumption is September. Would he need to fill a new D-160 form?

It depends on your I-20. If your program start date is different from the first day of class, then you may arrive not later than the first day of class. Now if that date (first week of July) is later than the first day of class, you should contact your school (international office) and ask for written permission. In some cases, a new I-20 might need to be issued.

In summary, if you are arriving in the US after the first day of class ( start of class on I-20), you might need to show additional documentation at the point of entry, that you have permission from your school.

It's very likely your application has been accepted but the default AWAITING APPLICATION will still be showing.

It's very common with schools that offer APP. FEE WAIVER , a friend experienced this kind of scenerio in a school in Canada a year ago, it showed submitted, and still brought out AWAITING APPLICATION FEE OF $95 CAD, the guy got a notification in his mail that he submitted an application and review have started immediately, two weeks later, he got the admission.

In this case, to clear the air, contact the Graduate Office of this school
