investnow2013: @Okijamaka, 4 hours of work stoppages helps to encourage unemployment. Millions of money & revenue are lost due to 4 hour closure of business!. In my own opinion it is much better to follow what is done world over to use these money to employ people instead of closures! The weekly sanitation will be observe on saturday. And your idea of three people tidying one street is somehow flawed. Do you wanna kill those people with work? Don't you know the more government employ more workers the more residents will be feeling less concern on what they have to do? Even if the weekly sanitation is anti business, we need to try it for 2yrs and see the change in our environment. Lagos is doing weekly sanitation cos that's what an area with massive population does. |

Buddah my brother, I am about to say this in our thread though different opinion. Obiano is trying in sanitation cos recently aswama people even work on sunday just to meet up to their task. But the problem is the resident, for Onitsha to be neat again all hand must be on deck. If you must notice, people are have started dumping refuse on every junction only because they were told to pack their dirt in nlyon polythene bag that is always distributed to them weekly, now that's the reason why there is always a refuse dump at each junction but it don't use to be so when they have to walk all the way to the refuse dump with their wheel barrow or dust bin. Now they are behaving like pigs because aswama are trying to make things easy for them.
I will only urge those who are close to Obiano to advise him to set up a sanitation program at Onitsha, Nnewi ,Awka and Environs just like Ohakim did his clean and green initiative during his tenure as the imo governor. Onitsha has to start observing weekly sanitation instead of monthly. On no account will anybody dump refuse on the road, he should create a special taskforce that will take care of this just like he create a special taskforce for traffic in various road at onitsha. They will catch and prosecute any offender who dump refuse on the road even people who will see refuse bin and dump their dirt on the side of the bin. During the weekly sanitation, every compound must sweep the front of their compound and not just packing of the refuse in the gutter(this way, there will be less sand on roads) When dump or refuse is found infront of your shop or compound, then the special taskforce will compel you to pay 3k or 4k just like it is done at umuahia.
To maintain a clean and organized environment, a harsh rules must be made. |

OreMI22: It is clear that you respect Anambra thread. I thought you would only want to insult people just to make a point. I could have exposed you by posting all your fake facebook and linkedin profile here.
Yes, i do not know anything about flyovers but i always strive for the highest quality and best design. If the Awka flyovers will cost Anambra a whopping N 5 billion naira, the onus is on every good citizen to make sure they are of the highest quality and best design. Someone mentioned the Enugu airport road flyover at Emene, that is another good design that takes into consideration those coming and going to Abakaliki and builds a ramps to adequately route traffic smoothly.
Part of the problem why Awka has remained the least developed of all the state capitals created in 1991 and indeed in the SE is doing everything with shoddy designs and half baked contractors. It is almost as though mediocrity is an acceptable state policy. Even the Zik's avenue which has remained the ONLY dualized road since Awka became a state capital territory more than 23 years ago, was done so shabbily that it is so narrow with street lights that look like they were cannibalized from the old streetlights on a very old street.
Today, look at Dutse, Lokoja, Asaba, Umuahia, Birnin Kebbi or Damaturu in comparison to Awka. In 1991, except for Umuahia, Awka was considered more of a developed city than all those village towns. Compare them today to Awka and see. They all look like real state capital cities except Awka. Some of them even have well constructed stadia. Which many here will find insulting if you compared their stadia to the one built in Anambra.
Anambra is definitely a state of giants, but its leadership have been largely mediocre. We spend about what other states spend on infrastructure, but the quality of what we get is often mediocre and worse inferior. For example the Enugu Shoprite mall cost N5.2 billion naira and it is 2 storey and 22,000 sq. meters with parking lot for 1000 cars, while the Onitsha shoprite mall is just 12,000 sq. meters, a bungalow mall and with parking for just 500 cars, yet it cost N4.9 billion! I can also assure you that when they finish, you still won't know where the money was spent. Therefore, we must change the way we act and begin to demand that barest minimum standards must be upheld for projects in Anambra projects too. This your post goes a long way to prove what I am trying to pass but people always attack me cos that's not what they want to hear. Onitsha is fast expanding via population and urbanization yet our government is not doing any thing about that. People are building houses without restriction while some will even build their own house on a pathway. Peter obi spent 8yrs spreading sub standard projects around anambra. What happen to good and quality projects? They are about to build another bridge across Omanbala river while the first one is barely use by residents, they prefer to cross to Mmiata Anam with boat. Why won't they use the money for that bridge to develop or construct new roads at places like odume obosi which has most of the high rise residential building yet no road? What about area like nkwelle and some parts of Nsugbe? Another thing is the IDC company use to do half baked construction. It is almost a year now and they are yet to finish installing the new rails at the upper iweka flyover. Though Obiano is trying via urban development but more needs to be done. |

OreMI22 from the picture of awka flyover posted by chino, it will be somehow different from the one at nkpor.
The one at nkpor is just for beautification cos its not actually necessary.
I believe in what chino is trying to pass, the construction company can't just design anyhow flyover, they designed the one that will suit the road and also change the landscape of that road as you can see from the design.
If they want flyover that will ease traffic, they can easily build the type they built at obosi. |

Kingsley1000: Onitsha is very small to compare with other SE cities(tho.i think owerri is largest) in terms of land mass buh with the merging of other towns like(nkpor, obosi, awada, iyiowa, odekpe okpoko, nkwere and ogidi)is larger, densely populated,is a cosmopolitan cities, having the tallest, closely packed residential flats and malls(plaza) which are build by business tycoons who wishes to widden their financial horizon by renting out the houses.. Mind you, onitsha isn't planned buh organised not by govt, infact there is meagre govt presence in the town.... Alas, the city has been living behind its worth and potential because of our incompetent leaders.. Not until she has good/wider roads, hospitality.planned housing, water, constant power, sporting facilities, robust sanitation and what have you, she'll still remain stagnant and even worsen
Udo dili umu anambra Who told you Onitsha is not planned? Have you ever seen a close street or avenue at onitsha? The road is just single lane that's all. My only grouse is the constant neglect of the roads especially some important roads which even leads to main market. They are all in bad shape. |

emmysoftyou: there is sth i really want the anambra govt to embark upon, that s shoprite, gallery and spar aka park n shop.. all dis project re needed in onitsha outskirts . i think we really nid it in awka or onitsha because of its drastic development nd population growth rate.. though onitsha is not that big,but they can extend their lands to obosi since onitsha is closer to the place.. Pls we need d govt to embark on the masterplan of onitsha with immediate effect... i wanna see the new side of onitsha becos anambra is the home of nigeria as all. so i see it gaining more drastic population very soon.
i remain faithful to the entire igboland Onitsha is not actually big but it has expand to different towns around it, many places people refer as onitsha is not onitsha. Onitsha stop at gra, awka road, head bridge and upper iweka not up to the fly over. All the stretches after the above mentions belong to different communities and town. |

The sanitation in anambra is somehow bad, if not for obiano onitsha would have been complete mess. The sweepers will sweep road and pack sand at the side of the road. Is that how it is done? If not for the fact that anambra is slow when it comes to government infrastructure, Obiano would have fence the dump site at onitsha-owerri road, and now the dump has blocked one lane on that road. We need to tackle the issue of sanitation with force instead of pretending that all is well. I am just defending obiano cos he is trying but he needs step up. |

Among the above list, is there any of them that is still living in anambra state? I still maintain that you don't live in Anambra, even if you do then you don't know about Nnewi and how they run their biz. All the above names you mention there still has their headquarters/industries at nnewi, they are big business men so they don't normally have a permanent location.
