Obasanjo was able to get things done because the senators fear him, governors fear him, Northern elites fear him, many politicians fear him so his wish is their command. Yaradua is weak and I don't see him as an idealist. I see yaradua as none of the two concepts in question.
Both concepts are needed in any nations not just developed worlds. You want someone to act, what will he or she act on? You want someone to do something, what will he or she do? Both idealism and realism plays out in our individual daily lives.

You asked a question and someone gave you an answer, unhappy that the response did not fall in your spectrum two of you have now started what seems to be an eternal 'back and forth' exchange. Are idealism and pragmatism mutually exclusive? No need to quote pages and pages of text book, let us apply some common sense here. Are you saying it is impossible to get someone that has ideals without being able to reason or see things realistically or vice versa?

How is it possible to share nigeria along the lines of religion? i can't understand that because we have enough christains in the north and enough muslims in the south too. how do you seperate the muslims in the south and the christains in the north? How do you do with the yoruba people that have christians and muslims in almost each family?You can only share nigeria on the basis of tribe/region which will not even stop the fighting and corruption we are experiencing, and not on the basis of religion, it won't just work.

I agree with you man, that was why I pray for one Nigeria. There are many ways we can solve these issues rather than seperation.

Nairalanders, a group of intellectual people. You guys have started splitting Nigeria here before our so called leaders wi;; decide, lol

and how does the car pass thoes customs~

I heard that customs seizes car as they like~

Things are getting better. some Nigerian are in supporting of Ghadafi, while some are in support of president mark.

The battle has kicked off,

I pray & advocate for confederation. Lets have 6 autonomous regions/nations each with her own goverment & administration but with an open boarder, free trade/movements and an arrangements where our different armies can come together to fight a common enemy or be each other brother's keeper when neccessary or simply have a combine milatary

Can you analyse how this concept will work out perfectly in Nigeria with the present situation on ground?

Of course the two concept don't operate in the same mind set but they can be two qualities in one person. Different situations requires different mind set while some rare situations requires both operating. That's what we should have our jobless Senators for to bring these two concept to get an hybrid of idea which works perfectly for the nation. When Obama proposed the healthcare reform. Republicans were against some bills in the reform but not entirely againnst the bills. They were against using that bill to fund abortion etc, In this situation the democrats were realist while the republicans are idealists. The democrats wanted the health bill passed without any overhaul while republicans want to cherry pick some aspect of the reform before passing it. In the end America is passing the most important bill in the history of Americans.


The Health care reform makes me so happy, now that it's passed. You know what should be the opposite of the realist in this situation? The teabaggers that just don't want the healthcare reform and want to keep paying billions a year for healthcare.

I rejoice with American citizen, But do you know that American have competent and reserved politician. We hae business men in Nigeria not politician. If you want an idealist to rule this nation, there will be absolute state of confussion like what we are experiencing now. President Yaradua is an idealist but with the business men in cabinet and powerfull seat in Nigeria, Yaradua succeded in achieving nothing. Someone like OBJ, atleast we can count close to THREE major things that this man achieved with His realist mindset.


Idealism is applicable in country whereby everything is in order. A country like Nigeria, we need a realist men who is ready to flush out all those business men in system called politician in Nigeria.

What good is learning/knowledge without using it, after ones years in school, be it MSc/PhD in both Archaic or Modern philosophy which major in both realism and idealism, won't you use either when needed?

Kindly let us turn our knowledge to wisdom by using it, you don't have to know a situation requires an idealist approach and stick to your realism while it's killing you.

Now, will you go to war just because you run a realist system, when its all sure you won't win based on the factors on ground? Won't you rather play the idealist card in such situation.

This reminds me of one being chased by an enemy, who just jump off a fence without knowing or looking at the other end of the fence.

You have make more research and study the concept of Realism and Idealism. Your comparism is out of arguiment, you said someone jump fence and blah blah blah, What does this has to do with that?

You cannot tell me that God is an author of confusion? The same God cannot condemn Islam and Christianity at the same time.

The same God cannot tell you to hack to death other religions while at the same time telling you to love them.

The same God cannot ask you to impose Sharia while telling his other children not to live by Sharia.

There is confusion here but God is one, and the God I heard about from childhood is the God of Love, Kindness and Grace but also the God of Judgement, equity and justice.

He however is not a God that promotes random massacres of either Muslims or Christians or hate for each other because one of the main commandments is ‘ thou shall not kill ‘.

And by the way any so called Christian that goes on a killing spree cannot truly be called one in the true sense of the word. He or she is operating under the cloak of a different religion.
