Nigeria has a Nation with over 250 ethnics group and as giant of Africa as faced a lots of crisis since independent in 1960 that almost break down this country into pieces. Where do we want to start from if we seperate now? The implication of seperation is full of evils, lets pray for one Nigeria. Do we have to talk about civil war of 1967(biafra war) that claims thousands of souls, or do we have to talk about Kano riot, kaduna riot, Niger/Delta crisis, previous and recent Jos crisis and so on, countless numbers of crisis in Nigeria. If we embark on seperation, many souls will still have to be sacrificed and eventually we may still come back to be called one nation. It has happen in 1967 - 1970, what do we gain from it? absolutely nothing. Lets show each others love and God will help us, GOD BLESS NIGERIA AND NIGERIANS |

Modern philosophy doesn't comprise of the two concept opposing each other directly. A person of a dose of both concept is the best. An idealist can be a realist. Some situation requires both approach. A realist decision depends on the success rate of pre existing ideas while an idealist creates the so called pre-existing ideas. Do you think Americans just jumped on warships and decided to go to war in Iraq? One thing led to the other which is an idealist's way. An idealist in my opinion is not the best neither is a realist. Some situation requires one and some don't. Pragmatism really? in Nigeria? What will you call Sanusi? Soludo was an idealist who had some ideas of sacking bank directors with 12 years experience. But he didn't deliver it right away. Sanusi came in and delivered it. Now Soludo must have been thinking of how this thing will play out if implemented. And he must have seen things go wrong hence why he kept the rule at bay. I don't think Sanusi shares the same view as Soludo. Now does that mean Sanusi opposes Soludo? It just means the idea Soludo had but wasn't ready to implement, Sanusi implemented it right away. How did they oppose each other? A realist acts fast while an idealist takes his or her time to act an idealist isn't a dreaming john. Idealist just imagine things before they act. They think things through what I call scenario leveling (best case scenario, worst case scenario) You don't have to oppose the other because you are one. Same way people thought conservatism is the opposite of liberalism thereby opposing everything liberal like cause they are conservatives. In a political sense, just like the best leader will be someone of both conservative and liberal qualities, someone can be of realist and idealist quality . A dose of both can be achieved easily. That notion that realist and idealist opposing each other belongs middle age philosophy when it was do or die. Medieval philosophy isn't good anymoreI partially agree with you, but you still have to agree that the two concept does not operate in the same mindset. Been a Realist does not mean that you did not have ideas to solve issues. A realist face things they way it appears. But an idealist spend so much time studying and finding solution to problem. Read more about history of United State, if they have a realist as a president, the terrorist would have not successed in attacking pentagon. Realist respond to circumstance on time, while idealist spend much time studying and analysing the circumstancies. For instance, thousands of people have been killed in Jos crisis, and our idealist leaders keep debating on what to do, and people keep dying every minutes. A political scientist never give up to an arguiment, but keep arguing and learning from the arguiment, that is what make our field stands out from others field. Tell me in the world were we have a realist president and at the same time an idealist?? |

As you can see there are three or so question marks in the sentence you quoted.I hate people accusing me of doing what I did not involve myself in, just face your business. What do you mean by duplicate? let me invest my time on more profitable and usefull things than staying here and start exchanging words with you. Gaddafi is the craziest human being on earth. What is really wrong with this man? How can someone just glance through a problem without vivid study and come to conclussion. This is a National insult and international shame to Nigeria. If Nigeria should split into christian and muslim country, what will happen to ethnic crisis? Ghaddafi is crazy indeed, he has forgotten that Niger/Delta crisis is among the major crisis facing Nigeria. If Nigeria should split, I wounders how many country will come out from Nigeria, may be like 36 countries or more than. I dont see reasons why we should be debating on this evil ideas. We are one nation and lets live in peace and unity. If God trully join this nation together, nothing man can do to split it. |
If Bola Ahmed Tinubu(BAT) is an idealist and Babatunde Raji Fashola(BRF) is a realist, I will prefer a dose of both, hmmmmmm, Come up to National level |
Both men are mad , though i think the later is in a better position to cure the former of his madnessI agree with you, but can this mark trully care gadafi madness, yes our esteem senate president can do that by putting an end to jos killing and other crisis in Nigeria. Constitution permitt Senate president as a third citizen to make decision that will protect the interest of his citizen if Mr president and vice president fails to do so. David Mad Mark. He is the maddest of all maddersMark should try to defend himself by putting an end to this calamity. This is the only way senate president Mark can use to convince his citizen. Mark is the only hope for us now, let wait and see what he will do to stop this problem. |

However apparent the wellsprings of aggressive national behavior, realists accepted limits on both their intentions and their power to interfere. They recognized the barriers that national sovereignty placed on meliorist efforts to alter the political structures and domestic decisions of other countries. Idealists, as children of the Enlightenment, expected more of themselves and society. For them, the world was not hopelessly corrupt, but could, through proper leadership and motivation, advance morally and politically. This optimistic view of the world became endemic to the idealists' presumptions of human progress and the concomitant conviction that the United States, because of the superiority of its institutions, was ideally constituted to lead the world toward an improving future. The belief that institutional and moral superiority distinguished the United States from other countries found its central expression in the concept of "exceptionalism." This assigned to American suppositions of exceptional virtue the imperative of exceptional obligation to serve the peace and improve the human condition. All in all, with the present condition of our dear country, WHO DO YOU THINK THAT IS CAPABLE OF RULING THIS NATION CALLED NIGERIA; A REALIST OR AN IDEALIST PRESIDENT ? |
Realists and idealists disagreed fundamentally on the primary determinants of state behavior in international politics. For realists, external factors defined the options available to policy-makers. Those options were uncertain and elusive, requiring preparedness as well as caution. Secretary of State Dean Acheson once remarked: "The future is unpredictable. Only one thing—the unexpected—can be reasonably anticipated…. The part of wisdom is to be prepared for what may happen, rather than to base our course upon faith in what should happen." The German historian Leopold von Ranke formulated this view in terms congenial to American realists. The dangers and uncertainties of international life, he wrote, not only established the primacy of foreign affairs but also dictated the precedence of security interests over domestic concerns. While cognizant of the historical vicissitudes in national fortunes, realists nevertheless saw constancy in the essential traits and behavior of nations. Policies might vary with regimes, but fundamental interests, once established, tended to remain consistent. Idealists, on the contrary, tended to view the sources of external state action as residing in internal political processes, based largely on political structures, the distribution of political power, and the ambitions of ruling elites. Involvements abroad reflected not external necessity, but internal choice. To idealists, different forms of government led to different modes of foreign policy. Autocratic states, some idealists presumed, too readily threatened the cause of humanity by placing demands on individuals that were sharply at odds with private conscience. By ordering men into mortal combat with other members of the human race, they shattered the peace and defied the civilized norms of human conduct. Authentic republics did not wage aggressive wars, nor did free peoples impose imperial control over others |
Realists, recognizing no genuine alternative to coexistence in an anarchical world of individual sovereign nations, accepted the modern state system as a necessity. They would defend the country's interests by following the rules of diplomacy and war as propounded by a host of seventeenth-and eighteenth-century writers and statesmen. These rules of conduct were not designed to prevent conflict and war, but rather to mitigate their effects and thereby assure the survival of states. For realists, moreover, war was not an aberration, but a condition sometimes unavoidable, a contingency for which to prepare, but also, when possible, to deter by force or accommodation. Wars, they knew, were generally the only means available for changing unwanted political or territorial conditions. Realists thus accepted power politics as a natural phenomenon of international life, with the concomitant reliance on armies and navies, secret diplomacy, and alliances. Asserting the primacy of national over individual interests, they viewed the universal norms governing human rights as conditional when they threatened the national welfare. Realists observed the essential truth that nations existed successfully amid the world's anarchy. The evidence lay in the precedence of peace over war, as well as the continued material advancement in human affairs. Idealists viewed the international system, with its accoutrements of conflict and war, as not only deeply flawed but also capable of melioration, if not total cure. For them, international strife was the unnecessary and reprehensible product of outmoded forms of human organization, both in the internal structuring of states and in their international practices. Idealists saw in the trappings of power politics little but ambition, opportunism, deception, and impositions. Whereas realist doctrine focused on national interests and security, idealist concerns looked to individual welfare and the general interests of humanity. Idealists presumed that the objective validity and authority of universal norms, laws, and principles could and should apply to international as well as domestic affairs |
Maybe I should break what I'm saying down to your understanding. A man with ideas is an idealist and a realist is someone who sees things for what they are. The two doesn't have to compromise each other. Someone can see things for what they are but also needs proven idea on how to act. You don't just act if you are ruling a 150mill nation do you? you think first. You envision how to do with it. The two theories are not directly opposite of each other if you studied modern philosophy. Ideas built the world people imagine and envision things. Realist are pragmatic which makes them practical though they act fast but what are they acting on? Ideas. You see brother, both idealism and realism can be qualities in one person.Philosophically, realism and idealism comprise opposing approaches to the definition and pursuit of national objectives abroad. Realists tend to accept conditions as they are and to define the ends and means of policy by the measures of anticipated gains, costs, necessities, and chances of success. Idealists tend to define goals in ideal, often visionary, forms, and presume that the means for their achievement lie less in measured policies, relying on diplomacy or force, than in the attractiveness of the goals themselves. Tell me how one person can use the two formular at the same time. Realism and idealism is a different school of thought? |
Nigeria is a great nation either you like it or not. despite the wrong leaders and the shamefull condition of this Nation now does not means that she is no longer a great nation again. 2011 Election will determine if Nigeria will still exist or not. All in all, Nigeria still remain a great nation with great people with wrong leaders |
I need both in one person. You can always compromise to create something different. An idealist is very important as well as a realist. A realist acts faster than an idealist though but both qualities in one person would be great!!!I dont know how to breakdown to your own understanding. We can not have this two concepts in one person. Yaradu keep preaching rule of law, have you ever heard OBJ doing such thing? that does not mean that OBJ did not respect rule of law and fundamental human right, but the realist mindset will not permitt him to do so, do more research on these two concepts, |
When are we going to stop decieving ourselves, if Nigeria should split, how many counrty do you think we can divide this great nation into? Think about it very well, because igbo will not stay yoruba, neither will hausa stay with yoruba e.t.c |
