On Thursday July 25th 2013, Obong Umana Okon Umana, the immediate past SSG of Akwa Ibom State issued a Press Statement indicating his unequivocal resolve to be Akpabio's Successor come 2015. He maintained that whether he clinched the NDDC top job of MD or not, he would not rescind his aspiration for the Akwa Ibom top job.
This statement angered Akpabio who had earlier directed that any member of his Cabinet who wishes to run for the governorship position in 2015 should resign from the Cabinet before August 2013 - so he won't mix governance with politicking.
To that extent, Akpabio confronted his SSG and the later challenged Akpabio that he had agreed to make him his successor and that it's either Akpabio enforces that accord for them to fly together or he'll ensure they sink together.
The Governor then lashed at the SSG to hang the boot or be booted out, giving him 48 hours to do so.
