December 31st 2013 – January 1, 2014, was the last 24 hours for an amalgamated Nigeria according to records trumpeted by significant Nigerians, not excluding ex-military ruler Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB).

Perhaps that was why we heared things like: ”A Northerner Must Emerge in 2015 Or Nigeria Will Divide - Lawal Kaita”

But long before then was this quote: “Since 1914, the British Government has been trying to make Nigeria into one country, but the Nigerian people themselves are historically different in their backgrounds, in their religious beliefs and customs and do not show themselves any signs of willingness to unite … Nigerian unity is only a British invention” – Alhaji Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa who was reported by the TIME MAGAZINE of October 10, 1960 to have said there was no basis for Nigerian unity and it was only a wish of the British.

The word NORTH (AREWA), in Nigeria, is the most echoed in the polity. It must have be echoed a zillion times since January 1914 when allocation of political and economic resources in this vast land with vast opportunities and natural endowments, began.

“The British needed the Railway from the North to the Coast in the interest of British business. Amalgamation of the South (not of the people) became of crucial importance to British business interest. He said the North and the South should be amalgamated“.

“What is critical and important are the reasons Lugard gave in his dispatches. They are as follows: He said the North is poor and they have no resources to run the protectorate of the North. That they have no access to the sea; that the South has resources and have educated people“

“When the amalgamation took effect, the British government sealed off the South from the North. And between 1914 and l960, that’s a period of 46 years, the British allowed minimum contact between the North and South because it was not in the British interest that the North be allowed to be polluted by the educated South.“

Chief Richard Akinjide (SAN) recounted not long ago, “I entered Parliament on December 12, 1959. When the North formed a political party, the northern leaders called it Northern Peoples Congress (NPC). They didn’t call it Nigeria Peoples Congress. That was in accordance with the dictum and policies of Lugard. When Aminu Kano formed his own party, it was called Northern Elements Progressive Union (NEPU) not Nigerian Progressive Union. Northern Peoples Congress was, back then, still exists in one form or another in 2011- not without a Northern-prefix! Sometimes, you still read Northern Elements Political Forum! Indeed, these elements have not changed! 50 years later, we are still being confronted with a Northern Consensus Candidate. Yar´Adua´s purported message to Nigerians from his death bed via Hausa BBC in Hausa language! Northern this, Northern that! Not Nigerian!

Various anecdotal records also show why the need for a SOVEREIGN NATIONAL CONFERENCE is imperative for peace and development.

“Our agenda was to completely exploit Africa. Nigeria was my duty post. He stated that the West without Lagos was the most populous in Nigeria at that time but we ignored that. The north was seriously encouraged to go into the military. According to him, they believe that the south may attend western education, but future leaders will always come from military background. Their traditional rulers were to be made influential and super human. The northerners were given accelerated promotions both in the military and civil service to justify their superiority over the south. Everything was to work against the south. We truncated their good plan for their future.

“I was very sorry for the A.G; it was a great party too much for African standard. We planned to destroy Awolowo and Azikwe well, the west and the east and sowed a seed of discord among them”. We tricked Azikwe into accepting to be president having known that Balewa will be the main man with power. Awolowo has to go to jail to cripple his genius plans for a greater Nigeria. ‘’Looking at the northern leaders now , If they have any agenda in Nigeria at all, sadly it is only for the north, and nothing for Nigeria….’’

Now this same census figures, very important in allocation of positions and power within the Sovereign called Nigeria, have been disputed historically:

” On the conduct of the census in the East, Dr. M.I.Okpara (Photo says he gave strict instructions that the figures were to be absolutely true to the actual population and he is sure that this was done. To those who tried to ridicule him by saying that he had announced the discovery of a new village in the course of the census so as to inflate the figures in Eastern Nigeria, Dr. Michael Iheonukara Okpara says, ” It as a little fishing village in Eket that had been overlooked. It was not discovered and it was a village of only sixty people or more, which could not have made much difference in our overall population. The real test was that when the exercise was repeated, our figure was the same and the figure for the North had almost doubled. ” ~ Dr. M.I. Okpara—a biography ( C. Offodile)— in Eket, Nigeria.

And recently we have heard, ”No credible census in Nigeria since 1816 –NPC boss”

”Jonathan declared support for National Conference, mentions limitation”

The former president said his administration was reviewing the possibility of convoking a national conference.
President Goodluck Jonathan (Photo has declared that his administration is not opposed to dialogue among Nigeria’s various ethnic nationalities and is reviewing the possibility of a national conference, Mr. Jonathan said he was not opposed to Nigerians coming together to discuss how they would continue to live together in peace and unity.

Speaking after receiving a memorandum from The Patriots, led by Ben Nwabueze, on the need for a national conference, Mr. Jonathan said that the issue of Nigerians coming together to discuss their future should not be out of place.

He told the group that there has been constant discussion within government on how to create an acceptable platform for a national dialogue that will reinforce the ties that bind the country’s many ethnic nationalities and ensure that Nigeria’s immense diversity continues to be a source of strength and greatness.

“The limitation we have is that the constitution appears to have given that responsibility to the National Assembly.

“I have also been discussing the matter with the leadership of the National Assembly. We want a situation where everyone will key into the process and agree on the way forward,” he said.

He thanked the Patriots for acknowledging the Federal Government’s efforts to implement his administration’s agenda for national transformation.

“As a government, we are totally committed to transforming this country, Positive things are being done and by the grace of God, we will get to where we ought to be as a nation,” he said.

The Patriots’ delegation included Ayo Adebanjo, Solomon Asemota, Chris Okoye, Bola Kuforiji-Olubi, Dan Suleiman, Kimse Okoko, and Michael Orobator.

President Jonathan also welcomed the group’s call for the moral re-orientation of Nigerians, saying that he shared their belief that ongoing efforts at national transformation and development will be greatly enhanced and facilitated by the cultivation of better national ethics and attitudes.

Speaking to journalists after meeting with the President, Mr. Nwabueze, a Professor of Constitutional Law, said the convocation of a national conference was the fastest way to achieve the most needed transformation in the country.

“We have done our own research; and we are not perfect. But our own review is that we have in this country 389 ethnic nationalities. We need to bring these nationalities around a conference table to discuss how we are going to live together as one country in peace, in stability in security as one country with the aim of achieving national unity,” he said.

Mr. Nwabueze said Nigeria was not yet a nation but a state and the convening of the national conference should be seen “as a matter of priority as soon as possible, in any event before 2015 general elections”.

The Patriots is among various pressure and rights groups that have demanded the convocation of a national conference to discuss Nigeria’s future.

When asked what her thoughts are towards the negative reactions of Ohaneze Ndigbo over the unlawful detention of her Brother the Leader Of The Indigenous People Of Biafra and the Killings of IPOB peaceful protesters, this was her statement.
"Ohaneze Ndigbo are corrupt Chameleons who are totally indescribable. Today they pretend to seek for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and tomorrow they nod his continuous detention and then disown him. This minute they tag the killing of IPOB protesters unjust and the next minute they publicly blame IPOB protesters, hence they are the cause of their problems. They are not straightforward with Biafrans. Ohaneze should relax and stay off the Biafra struggle. Eze Chukwuokikeabiama that brought Nnamdi Kanu for this struggle and raised him for this purpose,will not abandon him because it is his battle.

What kind of Fathers will claim they are protecting us, meanwhile in the real sense of it they are harming us? I respect Fathers who are incorruptible, but Ohaneze Ndigbo are totally corrupt and I have no respect for them. Biafrans are been killed in cold blood on a daily basis at every slightest provocation in BiafraLand, yet they keep mute and support the killings. Ohaneze Ndigbo should go to their hiding places and stay away from the Biafran struggle. We will do all we have to do as humans and Eze Chukwuokikeabiama will take all the glory".

English language originated from Yoruba – Ooni of Ife

He said the most spoken languages all over the world today like English had its origin in Yoruba language.
The monarch advised Yoruba speakers all over the world to make use of the language as means of communication in their homes so it won’t go into extinction.
He charged the Yoruba people to remember their roots and pay special attention to the resuscitation, sustenance and growth of their mother tongue if they wished to sustain their culture and identity within the global community.
Oba Ogunwusi gave the charge during the celebration of this year’s “World Mother Tongue Day” which was held at the Oba Okunade Sijuwade Hall, Enuwa, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
The monarch also advocated the use of Yoruba language as means of instruction in schools for a proper understanding of their studies as it was done in some other climes.
Tracing the etymological history of languages, Oba Ogunwusi said the most spoken languages all over the world today like English had their origin in Yoruba language.
He berated the situation where these languages are given and receiving attention by the Yoruba people at the detriment of their mother tongue.
He said “the chequered history of Yoruba race with slavery and slave trade wherein their brethren were taken to America and Europe and forced to work in the sugarcane farms did not obliterate their mother tongue completely”.

A dying nation, its travelling President and the lying party, By Jude Ndukwe

In the run up to the 2015 presidential election, leaders and members of APC were very vocal in condemning the then president of the country, President Goodluck Jonathan, for every step he took. This even included attending churches on Sunday, Jonathan’s religion’s holy day of obligation. It was Babatunde Raji Fashola, the then governor of Lagos State and now Honourable Minister of Power, Works and Housing, that succinctly captured the mind of the All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and supporters then when at the sixth Bola Tinubu Colloquium in Lagos some time in March 2014, he charged at his listeners by asking them if they wanted “someone who spends most of his time in church or mosque, or the man who is ready to spend his time on the job.”

That was when life was very sweet as an opposition party especially with the tolerance level of Goodluck Jonathan. At least, Goodluck was spending his time in the country even if, in the hyperbolic words of Fashola, he was spending “most” of it in church.

However, fast forward to today, we have the same Fashola who is currently serving as a minister under president Muhammadu Buhari who would remain Nigeria’s most travelled president for a long time in our history. So far, since his inauguration into office on May 29, 2015, President Buhari has traversed 24 countries of the world within a short period of 9 months.
Considering our scarce resources, this is too frequent, too costly and is a disturbing development as the nation is in its worst economic quagmire since independence. Never in the history of our nation even when we thought we faced economic recession and hyper-inflation has our exchange rate run on auto-devaluation as it is now. The prices of food stuff and basic items are climbing higher and out of the reach of the common man. The purchasing power of the citizens has been badly eroded while people are not only not getting employed, those who are employed are losing their jobs in droves.

The economy is at a standstill! No gainful economic activity going on anywhere. Infrastructural development that characterised Goodluck Jonathan’s administration has since been brought to a halt; our revived agricultural sector is now in a speedy reverse course. While harmless and armless youths protesting peacefully within their constitutional rights are regularly mowed down by mindless security agencies in Zaria, Aba, Onitsha etc, the supreme court has come under several severe attacks from the ruling party as the Honourable Justices of the apex court have resisted the “body language” charm and refused to do the bidding of the party in some of the judgements given by the court recently.

Kidnapping has not only returned but assumed a more dangerous and fearful dimension, and the security agents seem overwhelmed. Power supply has become more epileptic than ever even as the DISCO’s have hiked their tariff by about 40% and they still expect Nigerians to pay for darkness supplied in the midst of gross financial powerlessness. There is general disenchantment in the land as the Buhari administration has sufficiently demonstrated a total lack of idea on how to run our economy to attain its full potentials at this time. This fact is further strengthened by the shambolic and embarrassing preparation of a simple budget that is a normal ritual of governments all over the world.

Nigerians believe that the budget was fraught with fraud and an indication of the hypocrisy of the current government’s anti-corruption stance. Having suffered so much, the Buhari budget is widely believed to be the “most stolen”, “most missing”, “most padded”, “most denied”, “most investigated”, “most withdrawn” and “most re-presented” budget, yet, there is no outrage in the land over that garbage. If PDP had made that “mistake” during its time, of course, the country would have been on an uncontrollable conflagration, set on by APC.
Despite the rapid descent of the country into catastrophic and unbelievable state of socio-political and economic anomie within a very short period, President Buhari carries on as if nothing is wrong. There is no sense of urgency or even needed level of concern for the state of the nation. Buhari keeps globe-trotting as if the solutions to the nation’s woes lie abroad.

The sophistry peddled by the administration’s spin doctors, as it was during the presidential campaigns, that the president’s frequent travels has already yielded much fruits for the country is only a lullaby-like tale told to children in order to put them to sleep and prevent their usual late night tantrums. Obviously, the complaints of Nigerians about the worrying situation of things in the country would no doubt have been sounding like tantrums to the ears of government.

Given Fashola’s lamentations about former president Jonathan’s frequent presence in church, one would have expected this same man and his likes to caution the president about his needless travels, sit back at home, consult with his cabinet and concerned Nigerians on how we can all move this country forward rather than junketing all over the world in search of foreign solutions to local problems.

The argument that he is in talks with some oil producing countries to see how they could help increase the value of oil in the international market by scaling down on output is akin to pouring water in a basket for the purpose of storage. If we are able to get Saudi Arabia to reduce output will a country like Iran not take advantage of that and flood the market with their own oil especially as they have a lot to unleash on the market having been shut out from the international market for a long time as a result of US sanctions until recently.

This is more so especially when one considers that Iran would be very happy to do the exact opposite of what Saudi Arabia does even if it is just to spite the Saudis owing to the frosty relations between the two countries. In addition, the pro-Shiite Iranians expressed very strong diplomatic reservations over the recent killings of Shiite Muslims in Zaria by a band of military men led by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai. This might just be an opportunity for a pay back by them.

It is also instructive to note that a majority of our oil patrons have either found new buyers or have embraced alternative sources of energy. So, whichever way one looks at it, embarking on extensive and expensive diplomatic shuttles majorly for this purpose is not only illogical, it is also antithetic to common sense and beats the imagination of even elementary economists. Little wonder then our president seems to be the only president among the oil producing countries who think the best way to shore up the price of oil worldwide is by diplomatic shuttles. No other president worldwide is travelling for this purpose.

Our nation is dying, the president is travelling and his party is parrying the truth about the situation of things and the true outcome of the president’s frequent travels. Let the president return, sit back and spend quality time at home and stop working like a distant learning student.

We should have regards for human life.....it is sacred, a special gift from God . What will this man be made to pay or do / be punished with, that will equal the lives he and his cohorts have killed. By the way were are the rest of his gang members, he should be made to name them.
