The Five Levels of Emotional Intimacy In Marriage. Do you feel that you can share your innermost self with your husband or wife? Do you trust him/her not to judge, criticize or reject you after you bare your soul? Deep emotional intimacy in marriage comes from feeling totally accepted, respected and admired by your spouse despite them knowing your innermost feelings. However, there is no need to worry if you are not there yet. Psychologists believe that there are five levels of emotional intimacy, and it takes most married couples some time to get to the highest level. Level 1: Safe Communication This is the lowest level of emotional intimacy. The couple only engages in “safe” conversations, which basically means exchanging facts and information on safe topics such as the weather or work. They avoid sharing feelings and opinions or being vulnerable with each other. These are not necessarily marriage-ending intimacy issues. With the right marriage tips and advice, you can still achieve the highest level of marital intimacy. Level 2: Other People’s Opinions and Beliefs The couple begins to share other people’s thoughts, opinions and beliefs with each other. Most of the conversations begin with the words “so and so said . . .” Sharing other people’s opinions and beliefs helps to test the waters and gauge the other person’s reaction from a safe distance. Level 3: Personal Opinions and Beliefs At this level, the couple begins to share their own thoughts, opinions and beliefs with each other. Criticism or rejection at this stage can cause the couple to pull back from each other so as to avoid conflict. Level 4: Dreams and Failures Once a couple realizes that they can share their opinions without being judged, they begin to open up about their dreams, goals as well as past mistakes and failures. At this point, they are willing to be vulnerable with each other by sharing things that they can’t really change about themselves – i.e. the past. Level 5: Needs and Desires This is highest level of emotional intimacy where the couple reveals to each other who they are at the core. Such intimacy requires great trust because unlike the previous levels, there is no escape or backtracking at this level. In fact, many people are afraid of this level of intimacy because they fear that what they reveal will be used against them. Intimacy in marriage grows over time. You can’t expect to experience the highest level of emotional intimacy in your first year of marriage but if you keep working towards it you will get there sooner or later. |
How the World Will End Some people think that talk about the end of the world is so much tabloid sensationalism. And in a sense, it is. Every now and then, as I wait in line at a grocery store checkout, I see a headline blaring that the world is about to end. If the line happens to be on the long side, I’ll sometimes pick up the tabloid and flip through it till I find the article in question. Usually it’ll quote some psychic or an obscure expert in religion who proclaims that doomsday is surely just around the corner. But there’s a serious side to the end of the world. Several years ago a cover story on Newsweek announced, “Doomsday Science: New Theories About Comets, Asteroids, and How the World Might End.” By “how the world might end,” scientists mean the extinction of the human species or, in the best-case scenario, a throwback to the Stone Age for the few of us lucky enough to survive. Few people take the tabloids seriously. More of us may worry a bit about comets, asteroids, and meteorites. But the probability of an actual earth shattering impact in our lifetime or that of our children and grandchildren seems so remote that it’s probably safe to say nobody loses any sleep over it. However, I’d like to share some information with you about the end of the world from another source—the Bible. For the Bible makes it very clear that the world will end someday. In this article we’ll be asking what the Bible says not only about the actual end of the world but also about the period of earth’s history leading up to it. A spiritual conflict Casting its prophecies in symbolic imagery, Revelation makes it clear that the final months and perhaps years of human history will be marked by a terrible conflict. Revelation 13 opens with a fearful-looking beast rising out of the sea. Most people on earth will welcome this sea beast (verses 3, 4). However, one small part of the human race will refuse to submit to its authority. Revelation says that the beast will “make war” against them and “conquer them” (verse 7). And the story doesn’t end there. A second beast power—this one rising from the land (verse 11)—will attempt to force the entire human race to worship the first beast, threatening anyone who refuses to do so with death (verse 15). There’s nothing new, of course, about world-class powers persecuting innocent people. It’s probably safe to say that more persecution of innocent people by world-class powers occurred in the 20th century than in any other single hundred-year period in history. And if life on our planet continues uninterrupted for another hundred years, who knows what kind of inhumanity future world-class powers may inflict on our race by the end of the 21st century. But there’s much more going on in Revelation 13 than the persecution of a few innocent people by a couple of world-class powers. The book of Revelation, particularly the last half, por-trays in symbolic language the final conflict between the forces of good and the forces of evil on our planet. Earth is, in a real sense, the theater of the universe. The conflict began with Satan’s rebellion against God in heaven. God eventually cast Satan down to planet Earth, where he has continued his rebellion (Revelation 12:7–9). And his purpose is still to defeat God, at least on this earth. However, Satan has rarely presented himself to any human being as Satan. He works, rather, through evil humans to achieve his purposes. So what is in reality a conflict between powerful spiritual forces throughout the entire universe appears to us as a conflict between the human forces of good and evil on our earth. Revelation draws back the curtain and allows us to see the big picture: God is about to wrap up human history and put an end to the conflict between good and evil on our planet, and Satan doesn’t like that. This is his last chance to win in his battle against God, and he’s going to “pull out all the stops.” He’s going to marshal every evil human power on earth, and this grand armada will devote its vast power to achieve one purpose: the total elimination of God’s people from the face of the earth. Natural disasters The Bible also makes it clear that the years just before the end of the world will be marked by terrible natural disasters, probably coinciding with the period of spiritual conflict that we just glanced at. Let’s begin with the first three verses of Revelation 7: “After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree. Then I saw another angel coming up from the east, having the seal of the living God. He called out in a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm the land and the sea: ‘Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God.’ ” Many Bible interpreters understand these verses to describe the final events of earth’s history. Revelation says that when the winds do finally blow, they will harm the earth, the sea, and the trees—that is, the world of nature, what we often refer to as the environment. In other words, God will allow terrible natural disasters to afflict our planet at the very end of time, wreaking terrible havoc on the earth. Revelation 16 describes seven terrible plagues that will fall upon the earth just before Christ’s second coming. Most of them consist of natural disasters: First plague: Painful sores afflict human beings. Second plague: The Sea turns to blood. Third plague: Earth’s fresh water turns to blood. Fourth plague: The sun scorches the human race with terrible heat. Fifth plague: The headquarters of earth’s evil forces is plunged into darkness. Sixth plague: Euphrates River is dried up (which may be symbolic rather than literal). Seventh plague: A terrible earthquake is followed by huge hailstones The eighteenth chapter of Revelation also gives us a snapshot of this period of earth’s history. In this chapter the forces of evil are symbolically portrayed as an evil city called Babylon, which will be destroyed just before Christ’s second coming. Notice how Revelation describes the destruction of Babylon and the reaction of the world’s political leaders to its destruction: “When the kings of the earth who committed adultery with her [Babylon] and shared her luxury see the smoke of her burning, they will weep and mourn over her. Terrified at her torment, they will stand far off and cry: ‘Woe! Woe, O great city,br/> O Babylon, city of power! In one hour your doom has come!’?” (verses 9, 10; emphasis added). The reaction of the owners of the world’s transportation systems, which have delivered the products of earth’s factories to ports all over the world, will be similar to that of earth’s political leaders: “Every sea captain, and all who travel by ship, the sailors, and all who earn their living from the sea, will stand far off. When they see the smoke of her burning, they will exclaim, ‘Was there ever a city like this great city?’ They will throw dust on their heads, . . . with weeping and mourning” (verses 17–19; emphasis added). Notice that in both of the preceding descriptions, the cause of Babylon’s destruction is fire. Revelation uses fire, which is one of nature’s most destructive forces, to symbolize all the natural disasters that will destroy the world at the time of the seven last plagues. This destruction will bring the world’s political and economic systems to a standstill. God will be saying to the world’s leaders, in effect, “You trusted that your wealth and your intricate political shenanigans would create a better world? I will bring all those systems to an end, and you will see that they are worthless.” Christ’s second coming Christ’s return to planet Earth at the end of this terrible season of conflict and calamity will have two important purposes. First, He will put an end to evil and suffering. Second, He will deliver His people from the forces of evil that have been trying so desperately to destroy them. The Bible also suggests that the forces of nature will be turned upside down at Christ’s second coming. Revelation 16, for example, predicts an earthquake so severe that it will actually cause the mountains and islands to disappear from the face of the earth! (verses 18, 20). To create that kind of destruction, an earthquake would have to shake every tectonic plate on the planet. Notice the reaction of the human race to Christ’s coming and the earthquake that accompanies it: “Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and every free man hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. They called to the mountains and the rocks, ‘Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?’?” (Revelation 6:15–17). What will be the ultimate fate of the human race when Christ returns? God’s own people will fare very well. Shortly before He left the world, Jesus said to His disciples, “In my Father’s house [heaven] are many rooms. . . . I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am” (John 14:2, 3). Jesus has been in heaven ever since He left this earth nearly 2,000 years ago. So Jesus was telling His disciples that when He returns to our planet, He will take His people to be with Him in heaven. The wicked, on the other hand, will be destroyed at Christ’s second coming. This is particularly clear from the descriptions given in Revelation 18:21–24 and 19:11–21. And 2 Thessalonians 1:7, 8 says that “when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels,” those who do not know God and who refuse to obey Him “will be punished with everlasting destruction.” How the world will end So is the world as we know it doomed to end someday? Yes, but not the way the tabloids or the scientists predict. Human civilization will not end merely in a blaze of fire from some comet or asteroid that happens to intersect our slice of space. God will, of course, use the forces of nature as part of His plan to disrupt human history. Revelation leaves little doubt about that. But the primary cause of earth’s destruction will be the intervention of God Himself as He brings evil and suffering to an end and ushers His people into eternal life. And now, please consider this with me: If Christ’s return to earth happens in the lifetime of most of those reading this magazine, which is entirely possible, then the issue is not whether we will experience this earth-shattering event and the disasters leading up to it. We won’t have any choice about that. Rather, each of us must face the profound question of whose side we’ll be on. If we wait till Christ returns to answer that question, we’ll have waited too long. Each of us must decide now. And making that decision is so simple. We must choose to put ourselves on God’s side. We must ask Jesus to forgive the past evil in our lives and to break its present power in our hearts. And we must commit ourselves to follow Him during the rest of our life on earth. Making this choice now will guarantee you a place on the right side the day the world ends. I invite you to join me in making it today. |
FIVE WAYS COUPLES CAN COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY WITH EACH OTHER. Instead of waiting for the worst thing that could happen in your marriage, you can work towards taking it back to the way it once was. Sometimes in marriage, level of communication between couples dwindle and it gets harder to express your feelings towards each other, because you don't talk everyday. Instead of waiting for the worst thing that could happen in your marriage, you can work towards taking it back to the way it once was. Life gets busy especially with kids, jobs and extended family but you can work together as a couple to get your marriage back on track. Here are 5 easy ways couples can communicate effectively with each other 1. Communicate with love, admiration and respect: Talk with your spouse rather than talking down on them or at them. 2. Go away together: Sometimes, it's okay to just leave everything behind and just have some time alone with yourselves, no distractions. 3. Communication should be mixed with fun and laughter: Life is not about being serious all the time. Make your conversations very enjoyable then you can proceed to saying about your issues. 4. Remember why you got married: Focus on what you love and cherish about each other, this should be motivating enough. 5. Create time to talk: Scheduling a talk time between you and your spouse. Look forward to it each day and watch your level of communication get better. |
IT has been said that while men prefer morning sex, (they are naturally even ready for it if you know what I mean) women will rather get it on at night. The reasons for this might be peculiar for each woman, but there are some basic reasons that will cut across most women. Here are 5 reasons why she might prefer to have sex with you at night. 1. Darkness: A woman who is insecure about her body might prefer sex in the dark and only night-time offers that. She feels freer because she does not have to worry about how she looks and this might lead to a more satisfying sexual experience. 2. Relaxing: After a very busy day, most men just want to hit the sack, but not women. Some women might prefer to have a glass of wine, surf the net or watch some TV to unwind before bed, while some will prefer to have some fun with their men. The point is, women prefer to gradually unwind before actually going to bed, and sex can help with this. 3. Better sleep: Experts have told us that sex makes us sleep better. For a woman who has to be up early to deal with sleep, chores, etc, it makes sense that she will have to get the best sleep she can. So, don’t be surprised when she rubs up on you for that natural ‘valium.’ 4. Mood: Something about the night makes a woman a bit freer. It is not necessarily the darkness, it is the ambience, quiet, and the overall cover that the night offers. This is why intimate dates, quiet walks, heart-to-heart talks, etc always seem so much more romantic at nights. It is this feeling that makes her want to connect with you at the end the day instead of during the harsh light of day. 5. Preparedness: Compared to morning sex, women can actually prepare for night sex. It is not as spontaneous as just getting up in the morning and doing it. She can take a shower, spray a little perfume, and wear lingerie in preparation for some good loving. Women feel more sexual confidence when they are prepared, as opposed to the morning when they might be worried about morning breath amongst other things. |

Goodluck Jonathan's Last Statements to Nigerians... How true was he? Senator David Mark has dismissed call by the All Progressive Congress for the just concluded Benue South senatorial rerun to be declared inconclusive. Mr Mark won with a margin of 12,571, polling 84, 192 votes as Daniel Onjeh of the APC who polled 71, 621 votes. While Mark won in five local government areas, Onjeh won in four. The APC had called for the rerun election to be declared inconclusive arguing that the total invalid votes were more than the difference between the David Mark and Daniel Onjeh. Speaking with newsmen this on Sunday morning after observing a brief Sunday service at his Otukpo residence, Mark said “INEC has declared and there is nothing they can do about it.” He used the opportunity to thank the indigenes of the Idoma nation urging them to support him to further uplift the region. Share on Facebook Share on Twitter David Mark speaking during the short church service on Sunday, February 21. “It is your collective support and effort that I want. David Mark alone cannot uplift the Idoma nation. Election has come and gone. I have won and I have put that behind me. I’m thinking of our to better our lives than it was yesterday,” he said. Meanwhile, celebration is currently going on at his residence as hundreds of supporters were seen dancing, singing.

While the world scrambles to deal with the continually growing threat of radical Islam, the true underlying causes of this phenomenon are grossly ignored. Governments – local, federal and international – are considering various strategies to contend with this unprecedented danger in various ways: militarily, politically, criminally and culturally, all the time ignoring the biological root cause of Islamic terrorism. The world runs the risk of continued peril if it does not quickly come to terms with the following politically incorrect fact: radical Islamic culture, in its various fanatic forms, leads to severe mental and emotional impairment. The conclusion, even more politically incorrect than the hypothesis, is that the culture of radical Islam must be shut down in all countries that believe in human freedom and mental health. A further conclusion is that political or cultural arrangements that allow for the preservation of this deranged culture can only lead to disaster. Several important researchers, such as John Crayton, Jerrold Post and Richard Pearlstein, take the “terrorist as mentally ill” approach in trying to make sense of the phenomenon of individual acts of terror. Post asserts that individuals drawn to terrorism rely on the psychological mechanisms of ‘externilization’ and ‘splitting’. These psychological mechanisms are, according to Post, found in “individuals with narcissistic and borderline personality disturbances”, disturbances that usually occur during childhood and early adulthood. The ability to healthily integrate the good and bad sides of one’s personality is lost and thus their split personalities are split into “me” and “not me”, the one capable of inflicting violent damage on the other, including suicides that destroy their surroundings as well. Is it not only possible, but rather probable, that societies that raise their young under a constant atmosphere of violence, rape, fear, jealousy, disciplinary stringency, an erased and even deprecated sense of the feminine self, may just be a breeding ground for violent fanaticism? For instance, female genital mutilation, a practice common to much of Islamic society, can result in severe bleeding, neurogenic shock, haemorrhagic shock, severe pain, shame and trauma; it goes without saying, all this without the requisite medical and psychological help given to the victim. Honor killings have risen greatly as of late amongst Arab societies with horrendous affects not only for the hapless woman, but for family as well. A Palestinian reported that after a woman was killed for suspected adultery, her children were left “for two weeks, incapable of sleep, crying for their mother.” Child rape, both male and female, and by both mother and father, is common in many segments of Muslim society, and now it has spread to those that would respect the religious and cultural mores of their Muslim immigrants. In a 2014 BBC report on the Muslim immigrant population, it was reported that “at least 1,400 children were subjected to appalling sexual exploitation in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013…..children as young as 11 were raped by multiple perpetrators, abducted, trafficked to other cities in England, beaten and intimidated.” Domestic violence against women, according to many but not all scholars of Muslim jurisprudence, is allowed and not subject to punishment. Add to this the roaring role of the Imam in the mosque and the constant message of violence against the infidel, the total and utter lack of sensitivity in the killing of animals for consumption (compare Jewish ritual slaughter or Western government-approved slaughter with Halal slaughter), children and women being made to stand in front of their men as protection, and an entire list of similar atrocities. It seems a pretty good bet that if we examined these segments of Muslim populations psychologically, we would see a large segment of this population suffering from ‘externalization’ and ‘splitting’. In biological terms, we would see different patterns of brain region activation, epigenetic negative influence on normal gene expression and even anatomical differences caused by trauma on the developing brain. Can solving this problem really be seen as something that has to do with good will and multiculturalism? Can any political deal made with these people really produce something longer lasting than the ink on the document? Is it any wonder that so many non-Muslim grown psychopaths are finding their way to radical Islam (perhaps radical Islam represents to them one form of “not me” that they can easily identify with)? In a 2012 paper entitled “Dynamic Epigenetic Responses To Childhood Exposure to Violence”, Jonathan Mill writes, “Of note, changes in DNA methylation following early life stress have been associated with long-term changes in gene expression and behavior and may contribute to both psychiatric disorders and physiological disturbances later in life.” He provides evidence of altered gene expression due to juvenile violence. British researchers found significant differences between the brains of psychopaths and normal people, specifically in the uncinate fasciculus, while earlier studies have shown similar differences in the emotional and violence regulating center – the amygdala – and the orbitofrontal cortex, an area important for decision making. Lead researcher, Dr. Michael Craig states, “The suggestion of a clear structural deficit in the brains of psychopaths has profound implications for clinicians, research scientists and the criminal justice system.” Dr. Craig should have noted as well that the implications for politicians and social scientists are no less important. Viewing Muslim terror in this way reveals, for instance, the utter futility and even great danger of ideas such as the Two State Solution between Israel and the Palestinians. Taking from Israel the ability to militarily patrol this breeding ground of psychopaths is insane. It will never work. Psychopathic societies are never satiated (need we mention Global Jihad and the Global Caliphate?). Will the Muslims in Pakistan ever stop their murderous fury against the Hindus? I doubt it – unless they stop following radical Islam. The world can help with this and put an end to radical Islam. But it must be understood that this is a problem for the World Health Organization, not for the UN proper; radical interpretations of Sharia Law as a global health problem. The very many Islamic apologists, Barack Hussein Obama included, must understand that if they desire to protect any vestige of goodwill towards Islam, they must help to eradicate those very many biological aspects that lead to gross mental regression. This means, first and foremost, reigning in Sharia Law. It is time to tame radical Islam, which means not only ISIS, but also a score of political movements that create this sickened and dark reality – Hamas and Boko Haram as just two examples. There can be no political negotiations with the deranged. For Europe and America, there can be no cultural respect for those that lead their own down the slippery slope of mental illness. Most importantly, it behooves those Muslims that reject the methods and ideologies of the radical Islamists to create strong societal borders even within their own communities, to not only theoretically reject but to functionally halt this growing plague. Should they not do so, the boundaries between radical Islam and Islam will be understandably blurred by outsiders in the Western world and the consequences that even the moderate Muslims suffer will be completely of their own making.
