do you know why they believe our English is wack, because they think nothing good comes from Africa but if you go out there to show them you can do it then there will be some respect. correct bro, I’m working with so many foreigners such as Sri- lankans, Indians,British, Australians and Canadians and I can say we speak correct English but our accent sounds funny and they know that we speak correct English, that’s what I said earlier that Nigerians and Ghanians speak correct English. Anyhow, I think I can basically answer this...I'm an Akata ..lol/Igbo...(Dad's Igbo) who only knows the life of an American...

SO I grew up hearing my dad speak....and folks used to tell us that they couldn't understand him.
I didn't grow up around Nigerians in general (only 1 family in which only the dad was Nigerian...but the kids were born in the U.S.)
I think there has only been maybe 3 times in my whole life where I couldn't understand my dad.
He pronounces words differently than me and my siblings....but I love it.
We always try to tell him that he's mispronouncing the word....or we try to correct him...but he always fights back...lol.
He always says, "You Americans don't know how to speak English!" "I know how to speak proper English" "I was trained well..so don't correct me!"
Of course I laugh at him cause it's all in fun.
But yes....Nigerians do have a very distinct accent...and I can almost always detect it from other African countries.
Of course it's because I grew up hearing it daily....but I love it.
It's so interesting that when I see certain words being written or spoken....it's as if my dad is speaking.
I've had the opportunity to speak with some people on this forum and I'm just in awe as they sound like my dad!
I'm like, "Wow...you just pronounced that word just like my dad!"

I love to hear the different pronunciations of words from foreigners.
I think you guys' accents sound wonderful..but of course I'm biased.

PLEASE i need some assistance here on something bothering me it happened that i traveled to UAE last year(2017) november on 3 months visa after i get a job this year january the Hr of the company told me that day that the PRO that will run around for my visa processing is not around that time that if they are unable to complete my processing before my tourist visa expirers i will have to exist and come back after they complete the process which i agreed ( though i still continue searching o maybe i can find the one that can do it on time ) but unfortunately when the pro resume and started the processing UAE introduced this PCC requirement on feb 4th but my visa remains only 6days that time so i dont have any option than to come to naija and get the stuff done but when an coming the company gave me 500aed to get the PCC(i have my offer letter and thump printed labour contract copy).
I arrived naija on feb 9 So when i finished the PCC ATTESTATION i scanned it to them as instructed by the PRO on feb 22, since i've waiting for my employment visa but whenever i called them they will tell me they are still waiting for it from the system at embassy but when the frustration is becoming unbearable for my innocent PRO he sent me the application number he used to process the visa and tell me to also be checking it myself but whenever i check it, it will show APPLICATION UNDER PROCESSING AT THE EMBASSY but this week thursday he sent me a document which contains UPDATE WORK PERMIT INFORMATION with my details and work permit number written in arabia and english but he said i should take it to embassy and and complete the processing
so with this will i need to do medical and biodata please i need urgent and helpful answers

yes brother, you will take those document to UAE abuja embassy and there they will tell you the hospital to do the medical and you also do your biometric there also and they will issue you ur visa on your passport...kalas

Though it is not easy like that, like ajakayoke said; if you speak good English and have a lil confidence then you can get plenty offers and u re good to go. People who comes to Dubai for Job hunting mostly misinformed and have this mentality that it is easy to make it here like European countries or USA. Here is not easy like that but far better than Nigeria. If you want to come to uae to hustle, come but with reality on grounds and enough money because nobody will help you here even brothers desert each other here so don't come and be stranded here.all the best

MY SUCCESS STORY.
I have been on ghost mood in this forum ever since I landed in Dubai, waiting for a day like this to share my joy with all.
I applied for Dubai Visa on 7th of January 2018 through a kid brother(agent) and it came out on the 16th of February after much verbal fight. I downloaded PCC online, did the tomb print and waybill it to Lagos to be signed and stamped (6k), it was done n waybill back to me the next day and I collected it on the 3rd day. I went straight to Abuja n did all the necessary authentication (PCC and my degree), booked a flight to fly from Abuja. On the 3rd of march, I got to the Abuja airport at 4pm and went to Emirates airline checking points, all my documents were complete but no hotel reservations. I tried to bribe my way in with 1k but staff at the point got angry with for trying to insult them with 1k, that I give them a reasonable amount. I left them, when to a cyber café upstairs, did the reservation for 2k, came back and was allowed in for other checks.
The checks were simple and I boarded, took off 7pm Nigerian time and landed at 4am Dubai time. At the airport, I changed $200 and was waiting for my so called agent to come n pick me. I used my Nigerian line to call his number at the rate of 200naira per minute n 60naira per minutes to receive calls. At the end, he asked to enter the yellow plate number cabs with meter which I did. He asked me to give the driver my phone so he can direct him where to take me to. when we got to the place, I got down n my charge was saying 50dirhams and immediately, I converted it to naira... 5k! for a distance I can treck? no wahala na abroad I don come so ooo.
When I got to my accommodation building, the guy kept me standing outside for over 2hrs, gisting. At the end he told me that I should bring money for my bed space, 150$. He went up n paid, the room owner gave me a balance of 80dirhams n I asked why because I was expecting 50$ or its equivalent but said he too 100dirhams for dewa, kitchen n WiFi which I later found out was my agent's(my brother o) commission for bringing me to the room(In Dubai, no brother, no friend).
My first heartbreak was when I finally entered d 11x11 room with more than 13men in it and they showed me my space under d bed, 2nd was when I saw bedbugs dancing skelewo on my bed, tears dropped from my eyes. I. Star end thinking of going back to 9ja but d thought of what I have spent already reset my brain immediately. I spent 2 days thinking of my life and the abroad I have come to. I got a friend who was consoling n advising me. until I started eating on the 3rd day.
I got to know that 90% of all these non career jobs in Dubai bought with money, either agent ask you for money or the employer. With my quick study I understood that everyone in Dubai is an agent, just to inform u where they are conducting interview or a number to call, they ask for agency fee. I noticed that the jobs that can pay the level of salary I want to start with are not available even with agent's fee. so I registered for Sira(DPS) and went for the training n kept submitting CVs online. I got some interview invitation n after passing, they will ask for between 300k to 850k. I was like... after spending over 1m for visa,Pre employment medical 35k@ karama) SIRA courses, flight, POD course at Dubai police academy etc, I will still pay such a huge amount to get a job I did d interview?
On 24th of March at about 10am, a friend forwarded to me an interview that will hold that day at 11am. I was reluctant to go because I didn't apply, I was not called nor texted to come and it was almost the time for the interview but my guy insisted that I should go n try my luck. I had to go just to please him. I got to the venue at Al Qouz at abt 2pm and wrote my name on the list. number was 149. After d interview, I was selected because I have all the requirements n certificates. I submitted all the requirements n was asked to pay 1500dirhams via assurance fee(refundable after 6months) I paid and was issued a receipt as regards to that. NOTE: I paid because I was dealing with the company direct and in their head office. I signed my agreement n submitted my passport on the d 28th of April, the next day the manager travelled home(Philippine) and my visa process was not treated. the Indian that took over from him dropped our files, started telling us stories and was busy treating his brothers files.
The Philippine manager finally came back last week, called me on Sunday 22nd to sign my off letter and today being Monday 23 to come n take my EMPLOYMENT VISA and go for medicals for Emirates ID!
Note: I NEVER MISSED MY PRAYERS, DAY N NIGHT. IT HAS BEEN GOD.

you will have to another medical test for the residence permit( Emirates ID), that medicals done in your home country is for the employment visa while the medical here is for their emirate ID and you must pass the medical before issuing Emirates ID...kalas

bro they have done your visa at your current work which means you cannot leave until your probation period which might be 3 or 6 months or else you are playing with labour ban...that's why they always say it there that you look for a job that you will not regret later on

what position and have you seen the work like the mode of working, environment and what it entails because it is very difficult working without having your own copy of the offer letter...you can pressurize the company to give you your offer letter because it is dangerous bro

My co workers are much of Indian, Nepali and phillipinians. We didn't all any offer letter before they start our visa process. They just told us the salary, working terms and condition by mouth. This is my concern, seems most of my co workers have interacted with have concluded to wait till after two years before they go home to check their family. In which it is not convenient for me as a family man.
What should I do or whats the normal thing to do so that I will be able to go home next year March?

so you are saying you were not given offer letter, see the content before agreeing with them to do the visa, bro that's too dangerous because the company might do something you might not like and you don't have any evidence to counter them or show labour. They always emphasize on that here don't agree to any work if there is no offer letter
