Thanks for your response. Courier charge of 1500 for a small pen of 1500 sounds impractical for me. Could you reach an agreement for N500 with one of the drivers coming to calabar to just carry the pen call me when he gets to calabar and I'll come get it from him. Great, at least now we're getting somewhere. You can now see the update function on BDM.

I too got the no updates available message several times. I found out it was coz my network was unstable. I suggest you keep trying it'll see the update or you look for another Internet connection to use. Btw, who is it Internet service provider and where are you located? Hope it's not starcomms.

I think here is the problem. Desktop manager must tell you something. Its either it connects to the PB,(which means you aren't doing it fast enough or well) Or it shows the can't connect to the Playbook window (which is what we are after). You can try using another laptop or internet connection. There have been suggestions that the update server2011 error is due to outdated routers.

Can you deliver to calabar?

As regards the blackberry desktop manager thing, you have to be very fast. It can take quite a few tries before you get it. Just follow these steps sequentially

download latest BB desktop manager
hold down power button until 'turn off' / 'restart' buttons appear--choose turn off' I.e turn off your playbook
open desk top manager (it will ask you to connect to your device' via usb cable
connect your playbook to desktop)
DO NOT LET playbook turn itself on when connected (hold down power button when a red power light appear on it)
You will get error message on BB desktop manager ' can not connect to device; with an option to 'update' 
This message takes a few tries to get and doesnt stay for long so you need to be quick
choose 'update' on this error message pop up window
it will update via BB desktop manager

To your problem, what did desktop manager tell you when u tried method nobr 2? Also how did you get the failed to find the update server error? Is it when u tried to update via wifi? Have you also tried method nobr 1? Does your playbook begin to download the update before you get that error message or it doesn't even download at all. What kind of Internet connection do you have, is it fast and stable?

Please give answers to this questions so we can get an idea of what's really going on.

There is this Guy on Nairaland that sells stylus pens at N1,500, if you're in lagos, try him and let us knw how it goes. The thread is www.nairaland.com/899303/brand-new-stylus-pen-4. The PIN video chat thingy works only via wifi right? Most people in Naija are hardly on wifi including me. So the stuff is just there sitting useless for me. Hope they can make it work via bridge in future updates.

coogar: yes, you can use the bbm without bis.....bis = blackberry's internet service fuelled
by 3G. with a high speed wifi, the internet service is not needed until he leaves his house
where the wireless router is installed.

Remove your BIS active SIM card and see whether you can BBM. Why you can BBM with wifi is because your sim still has an active subscription. Let that subscription expire then tell me which winch you want use BBM without paying BIS. Or better still remove the sim and put another sim

I really envy guys here. Everybody has moved on.
People are side loading now etc..and I am still here wondering if I should buy one or not.

I tried MTN edge and it was okay. But I hope you don't plan on doing heavy downloads with MTN edge, coz MTN edge is notoriously slow. I suggest you try etisalat or airtel their edge is better.

simple, Via the playbook bridged to my phone. I can stream YouTube videos all day on the playbook and watch live matches.

Hello, everyone has peculiar needs, so don't want to advice you on which to go for based on my own personal views. But choosing between a playbook and galaxy tab, you'll have to first define what you need a tablet for. Do you want to just read docs, surf or just play games? Or are you into movies etc surf like that.

For me, I see no much major difference between the playbook and the galaxy tab. Except the galaxy tab can accept a sim card and you can make calls ( i personally find it ridiculous to make calls with a 7" device). The playbook doesn't accept sim card and you can access the Web by bridging it with your blackberry using bluetooth. It's advantageous coz you don't have to pay for extra data plan like you would do if you own a galaxy tab rather you're using the same BIS for your phone and tablet Like me now on MTN unlimited I stream you tube Videos, watch movies online,download HD tv series , I even watched yesterday's champs league finals via a Web stream with my PB bridged to my bb phone. I'm already contemplating not subscribing for DSTV next month sef coz I no need am again

After installation,the app icon appears on your PB and you're done!

If anything isn't clear, ask and I'll clarify .
