Food › Re: 10 Nigerian Foods You Must Eat Before You Die by teamchocolate: 6:12pm On Oct 07, 2015 |
Immediately I didn't see jollof rice, I cancelled the list mentally and spiritually midolian: There’s a wide range of Nigerian foods available today. The wide variety of ethnic communities found in Nigeria means that the nation located in West Africa has a varied and rich culinary tradition. Like other West African countries, most Nigerian Foods uses spices and herbs in combination with palm oil or groundnut oil in order to create deeply flavoured sauces and soups often made very hot with chili peppers. There are some staples and ingredients that cross the country’s state borders and there are lots ofNigerian foodsthat are not mentioned here but these are some of the foods we recommend you try when next you visit Nigeria. Nigerian foods consists mainly of rice, yam, cassava, plantain and beans just to name a few.
These are prepared and eaten with the various soups and sometimes stew recipes. Some Nigerian foods can also be prepared in jollof or porridge form.
1.) Agidi Jollof
https://i1.wp.com/buzznigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Agidi-jellof-e1426943899708.jpg?resize=888%2C666
This delicious Nigerian food comes with a soft bone inside otherwise known as (Okpukpu Agidi) . It is a very light food that can serve for either lunch or dinner and can also serve as a snack. It is usually wrapped in a leaf known as Uma leaf but you can also put it in a plastic container, or even aluminium foil. It’s a low-cost food, all that is needed is just a few ingredients to prepare, This is a must eat food for every Nigerian home.
2.) Pap (Akamu or Ogi)
https://i2.wp.com/buzznigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/akara_akamu.jpg?resize=893%2C326
Made from corn, this traditional food, when combined with Akara, Fried plantain or Fried Yam tastes so great. It is also a very nice and nutritious baby food. Evaporated milk added to Akamu, gives you a great taste.
3.) Nkwobi
https://i1.wp.com/buzznigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/nkwobi.jpg?resize=850%2C400
This is a super Nigerian delicacy simply prepared by mixing a well cooked cow foot or cow head with a spicy palm oil paste. Usually served in exclusive restaurants. It goes very well with any kind of drink.
4.) Tuwo Shinkafa
https://i2.wp.com/buzznigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/TuwonShinkafa_w.jpg?resize=850%2C400
This food has its origin from the northern part of Nigeria It is prepared with a special quality of soft rice. It goes down well with Northern Nigerian soups and some other Nigerian soups as well.
5.) Nigerian Groundnut soup (peanut soup)
https://i1.wp.com/buzznigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/egusi.jpg?resize=838%2C432
This is a very great substitute for Egusi soup and both share the same method of preparation. Some of the ingredients you need are: peeled groundnut, assorted fish and meat, palm oil, fluted pumpkin leaves, crayfish, salt and pepper.
6.) Ji Abubo (Yam and Vegetable Sauce)
https://i0.wp.com/buzznigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/yam-vegetable-sauce.jpg?resize=832%2C625
This is known mostly with the Igbo’s. One of the most delicious delicacies in Igbo land.
7.) Boli (Roasted plantain)
https://i0.wp.com/buzznigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Roasted-plantain.jpg?resize=850%2C400
This can come in two ways; the ripe and the unripe, whichever you chose, the taste is great.
8.) Plantain porridge
https://i2.wp.com/buzznigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/yam_porridge.jpg?resize=850%2C428
For this particular food, its preparation is fast and easy but that doesn’t cancel the fact that it is very rich in iron especially with the unripe one. It goes better with dried fish, or if you like, meat. Vegetable is a must for this delicacy.
9.) Abacha (African Salad)
https://i0.wp.com/buzznigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/abacha.jpg?resize=1024%2C680
Just as the name implies, it is a purely African Salad. Though most people still see it as a complete meal on its own, it is good to be taken as an in-between meal. Abacha is made from cassava.
10.) Ugba (Oil bean)

@ omonnakoda, my point exactly.. this is how they will wail after 99 years when we tell them to reapply for lease on our yoruba-lands.. and we eventually decide not to give them because it is at our discretion to. Re-allocate or not..the land is yoruba land.. the houses belong to them...they can carry it to aba, no fight there... They don't sell land to yorubas,( not like we are interested in that erosion ravaged red-soil land o) we yorubas lease land but our lands still belong to us.. wen we tell them we are accomodating, they don't get it.. omonnakoda: The shops were NOT THEIR SHOPS. They always were tenants. The tendency is for a long standing tenant to start feeling entitled. No matter how long a houseboy lives with a family he does not become their child.
After the shops are developed old tenants have no rights to return .They can apply and be considered like any other entity |

I command, let motor spare parts spring forth in all angles in Lagos and environs. Sometimes, we need to decentralised our markets to widen the prospect of that particular business. I'm thinking of having a mini-auto spare parts market @ Atan Ota in Ado-Odo/Ota local govt. |

See illiteracy, English is Nigeria's official language and point of correction, Hebrew is the language of the bible.... UmuEri: Return ‘Arabic Ajami’ To Naira Notes – Muslim Group Urges Buhari Featured
http://www.360nobs.com/2015/09/nigeria-at-55-muric-urges-fg-to-return-arabic-ajami-to-naira-notes/ National news 02 October 2015 • As Nigeria celebrate her 55 Independence anniversary on Thursday, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has urged the Federal Government to immediately return the Arabic Ajami script removed from the nation’s naira notes by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Director of MURIC Prof. Isiaq Akintola made the call on Wednesday in his independence anniversary message to felicitate with the government and Nigerians.
"We call for the reinstatement of the Arabic Anjami which was removed from the naira by the last administration of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan after subterranean pressure from some unpatriotic religious leaders. Nigerian Muslims regard the removal as an act of hostility taken to spite Muslims. We consider it as a step taken to satisfy a section of Christians who had been secretly agitating for the removal of Arabic graphics from some official emblems used in Nigeria.
“We see the removal of Arabic from the naira as absolutely unnecessary and an action taken by Jonathan to spite Nigerian Muslims. We hereby state without any fear of contradiction that the use of Arabic as part of the graphics on our emblems does not in any way portray the imposition of Islam or its landmarks on Nigerians. This is so because Arabic stands parri pasu with English graphics wherever the former is used. “English graphics represent Westo-Christian civilisation while Arabic graphics symbolise Islamic culture. Those who insist that Arabic must be removed from our emblems nurse an agenda of domination by elimination,” Akintola said.
He said that whoever insists on the removal of Arabic Anjami from the naira and from other emblems must accept the equal removal of English graphics from the same materials, adding that after all English is the language of the Bible as it is known in Nigeria and it is on the nation’s naira and all other emblems.
He added: “By the way, apart from massaging the ego of Goodluck Jonathan and satisfying the narrow interest of Muslim-haters, what has Nigeria gained from removing Arabic from the naira? We appeal to the Federal Government to redress this wrong.”

In view of this, UNILAG stands at number 1 SonOfEl: OP, you are wrong. this is why:
1. UI started awarding degrees in 1965 after it cut its umbilical cord from London University. achebe, soyinka and co who graduated before had no degree from UI, because then, it was a college affiliated to London. it was called the UNIVERSITY (of London) COLLEGE IBADAN.
2. ABU has more of quantity than quality when compared to UI, UNN, and arguably UNIBEN. a lot of its alumni are not internationally reputable. No offense though, ABU is strong, solid, and boasts of some of the best alumni Nigeria can offer.
3. UNN started awarding degrees in 1964. it was the first school to award degrees with Nigerian alumni, hence its name University of NIGERIA, Nsukka. just like UI, it boast of alumni of international repute.
in view of these, the order should be:
#3 - ABU #2 - UI #1 - UNN
others follow. thank you.
