Have you ever gone from grace to grass then back to grace again?

Please come in and share your story for some of us to learn because it seems I am finding it hard to get back to my glory days.

Some are so fortunate enough to be born with a silver spoon but others are not. That's life for you.
I had some high and low moments as well but grateful to be alive.

Never thought or imagined I will be jobless before. Two years down the line after serving, no job yet after many application submissions.
Although I was able to use this period to learn photography but no capital to own a camera and other necessary gadgets to practice.
Currently learning software engineering but the cost of data with the epileptic power supply, it's become even more cumbersome to learn. cry

Apologies if I don't update as usual, mehn... I took a bold step and decided to start learning C all over again using Neso Academy, it's been the best decision I made pertaining to alx. Although one of the cons is that I'm a little behind since I started all over again but now, I can even comprehend C language more better.

August cohort, please check out Neso Academy on YouTube for C Programming language, it could be one of the best materials out there, aside Caleb, another YouTuber. Neso Academy playlist for C language is 311 videos, it's much but isn't it better than moving from materials to materials? Because the playlist also covers data structures and algorithms on C.

ALX has gotten pretty interesting now but also stressful. They're not giving us a chance to breath lol... But we finna doing hard things smiley
Thanks for the recommendations, I will check them up immediately.

I'm also lagging. The journey is getting interesting and tougher at the same time.

Programming / Re: I Want To Go Into Tech; What Field Should I Choose? by Technerdguy: 3:21am On Jul 20, 2022
Qinglong:

Thank you for this post... My dad with 20+ years of experience in journalism is earning lower than my older brother, who has been a graphic designer for just a couple of years and he's not even doing remote work yet. He started with my dad's old laptop back then.

I don't think we should discourage anyone cause you don't know their circumstances. There's nothing wrong with going into a profession for the money, provided you have the appropriate mindset to succeed and the willingness to put in the hard work. If you discourage them now and they don't make it in another line of work, they'd start regretting that they didn't try to get into tech (or any other line of work they were initially interested in) because of what internet people told them. It's true that success is never guaranteed, but whether it ends in success or failure, let everyone be responsible for themselves. Especially in this country where things are so tough and no improvement in sight.

Just today, in an office where I'm doing my service, a worker there was talking to this girl and told us that some of his colleagues in university are hitting it big now cause they seriously invested in various sides of tech back then. He didn't do so because he was more invested in the conventional education pricess. Meanwhile, they haven't paid him a few months' salary as of today and he's barely getting along. He's really regretting it now. Like the head of their department actually gathered us corpers and advised us to learn in-demand online skills because there's no jobs in Nigeria today. She also revealed to us that one of her sons is in Europe today because of this remote work thing (I don't know what skill he learned though).

Although I have a 2:1 in Accounting and planning to write ICAN after my service next year, I'm seriously thinking about learning this as well because of the state of our country, although definitely still going to learn Excel and QuickBooks for my course this year when I get a laptop. Me personally, I looked into a few online skills back in 2019/20 on the advice of my older brother (graphics, video editing, and programming). Programming was the only one I actually bothered downloading several videos on, but I eventually stopped because of no laptop.

I didn't even know about this apparent high pay thing for programmers back then, just until April this year. I don't know what will work out for me but I just don't want to put all my eggs in one basket in this country, lol. Whatever case, good luck to all of us.

With your background in Accounting, I would advise that you should try ALX Financial Analyst program. It is free!!!

I observed that you lack direction and you seriously need mentorship and guidance.

Although, I see the passion and willingness to learn in you.

You can check up on programs such as ALX Software Engineering, Zuri, and others. They will provide you with the right mentorship.

Honestly I'm no longer conscious of date and time. The only days I ever look forward to is the Peer learning days(PLD) because it's like a spare time to study more and review previous projects.

Yesterday's rain really stressed me out and increased my work, I couldn't find time to study and the little time I had wasn't enough. Got home late and slept off with the thought of waking up by 3am to study and do my projects. Instead, I woke up by 6am, Omo I just tiya.

It was even worst because I missed the first project deadline, but there's a second deadline which would end in three days. Might sound like a good thing but my score will be reduced from 100% to 65%!

As if that wasn't enough, I checked my email today and saw a message from the SE team. It was a reminder that they would be dropping people on 15th of this month. Those who didn't make up to 80% and here I am getting my score reduced. Since morning I have been on YouTube, geeks4geeks, reading and taking notes. Yesterday's project was a no joke oh.

A lot of people I know couldn't finish because of the requirements for the project. I plan to go to work late as long as I achieve my aim.

Please August cohort, it would really sadden me that anyone of you would follow this thread and end up dropping out. This was the reason why a group was created, read ahead!! There won't be enough time because there is much to cover. Please help yourselves.

I can feel your pain, alx is not a joke. I have been up since 1am but couldn't finished up with my tasks.

I have never attended any PLD yet. Is either nobody is in the group or you can't find your peers after dropping call notice on Slack for them.

PS: if you can attempt the advanced tasks and get them correctly, it will boost your points.

August Cohorts, download this book from pdfdrive, study it along side with other materials already mentioned.
This particular book will help you a lot in your shell basic projects and mastery of your command line.

Glad to find the thread.
Scared of the 70 hours weekly requirement though as I have to work for some hours daily.
Do I have to be online at certain times or I could just choose when to come online daily?
Well, it depends on what works for you. But I bet you that the 70 hrs a week or 10 hrs daily is little to finish consuming the voluminous resources/material alx will be sending you in a day and doing your projects, especially if you are new to programming.

Each project have it deadline, some have 24hrs while others have 2 to 5 days and others weeks. Normally, projects start 6:00 am and terminate 6:00 am the following day.

So like I said earlier on, it depends on how you manage your time.

For the very first time since I started alx SE program, I missed a deadline and I couldn't get a single task correctly. All thanks to Betty because she has become a pain in the ass. Betty would complain literally about everything, whitespaces, etc. Like some folks said in Slack that Betty seeks a lot of attention to herself grin
But I will not give up. I have gone back to the drawing board to restrategize. cool
Thanks Anonymous6o6 for responding to my mail.

The past week has been quite a struggle, a number of people I know ended up quitting. Some applied for other courses alx has to offer. Not just C project but also Shell project on int, variables, O/I redirection are now accessible.

I have to confess, the C project is seriously frustrating, especially when "Betty" marks the task with error, you have to keep redoing it until you got it.

Just having the knowledge of C isn't enough to get you through the projects if you don't jot down the command lines.

Below are pictures of my script for C and after running it with Betty, it returned error.
I didn't bother to attempt the C project yet. Although, I have created my git repo and installed Betty already.
I focused my attention doing Shell, init files, variables, and expansions projects.
Will probably try the C project after I must have done with today's projects.

As for the command line, I was able to form detailed and comprehensive note that I do refer to from time to time.

It takes grit!!
It takes a growth mindset!!
It takes the power of yet!!!
It takes courage and determination to do "the hard things" and survive alx cool

Sure

Go to your dashboard, click on sandbox
Then click on ssh, it will copy ssh
Paste it on termux and press enter
It will request for a password
Go back to the sandbox, you will see the password there, copy it and paste it on termux
And you will be logged in.
Then you can change your directory
Thanks... its works!!!

Gawd!!
I'm so stressed out even though we haven't started C yet

Omo the shell project stressed me oh

It got to a point where all the tasks I have done on my sandbox were nowhere to be found. I tried using the sandbox on my phone and I was able but on the system, I couldn't find them.

I ended up using Termux (A terminal but the phone version) it is really good.

Copied the ssh link, and did the project. Project I started since Morning, I just finished it. I wanna close my eyes and sleep but know tomorrow's project will deal more on advance shell, I will be studying overnight.
Hi at Anonymous6o6, I just downloaded termux for Android based on your recommendation and I'm stacked on how to get it connected to my ssh.
A little guidance will help

The shell-permissions project was literally MAD I was insane and mentally drain yesterday.
Imagine working out your solutions throughout the day. Kai coding is hard ooo.
I was so busy that I couldn't attend the AMA session yesterday, I will watch the recorded session later today.

How were you able to deal with yesterday's tasks @Anonymous606?

PS: my git Project is refusing to be pushed to my repository and the second deadline is in 24 hours, need help pls.

Honestly bro, I'm confused. I'm currently downloading and installing it. it looks pretty heavy (more than 500mb).

If i download and install all of these (emacs, shell, vi, git and GitHub. vim, linux,C.) My system will lag seriously.

You don't need to install all of them for now, ALX has a sandbox on the intranet that you can use for your tasks.
But you can have Bash install if you are on windows, or better still have Linux (Ubuntu) install in your system and just use the terminal.

If you are buying a hard drive, make sure you have crystal disk info installed on your pc. It will yet you know everything about the drive. It's age, when it was first powered on, how many times it has been powered on, how many bad sectors it has and how close it may be to failing. It is rarely a good idea to buy a used HDD. Because what you will get is not barely used but heavily used.

Romance / Re: My Girlfriend Had Sex With My Cousin.. by Technerdguy: 3:03pm On Feb 06, 2022
Pareyz:
Over the years, i had always admired Jane, a girl that lives in my neighborhood. She's extremely beautiful, the kind of girl I liked and wanted in my life. Any time I saw her, my heart would start to race, and my lips would begin to quiver- i just couldn't summon the courage to
step up to her and tell her how I felt about her.

However, in the last quarter of 2021, i decided to man up and make an advance on her. She didn't hesitate to accept to go into a relationship with me and i became very happy. It was like a dream come true.

Two Months into our relationship, i discovered that she had sex with my cousin long before I met her. A boy that I'm 7 years older than. When i asked her about it, she admitted to have had sex with him. This is a girl i love so much.

Right now I'm totally broken, I don't know what to do. I'm just thinking of breaking up with her.

It was entirely your fault @ the bold. You saw her and you liked her "Over the years" and you couldn't approach her? Had it been you approached her early enough, this could not have happened.
This is why I always tell those who care to listen to always "Strikes when The Iron Is Hot"
