ABUJA—HOUSE of Representatives, yesterday, failed to debate the activities of Boko Haram in certain villages of Plateau State, which claimed the lives of a serving Senator and many others. It became apparent that the House had deliberately avoided a division of members along tribal and religious lines, which often occurs whenever the Islamist group’s debate comes up on the floor for debate. Considering the mood among the legislators, who wanted to speak on the matter, Deputy Speaker, Mr. Emeka Ihedioha, who presided, insisted that the House would not entertain any extensive debate on the Plateau killings, which almost claimed the life of a member of the House. Ihedioha said rather than debate the issue, the House would engage in discussions that will keep them united as Nigerians. He said: “We should not take positions that will worsen the current situation. We will rather do things that will sustain our unity.” Ihedioha took the decision shortly after the House received a survivor of Sunday’s attack and one of its members from Plateau State, who was in company of other victims when the killings occurred. Mr. Mvadkwon Davou, representing Barkin/Ladi Riyom, appeared before his colleagues, yesterday, to narrate his experiences, but was disallowed. Only five requests in his motion were adopted by his colleagues, despite stiff opposition by another group of lawmakers. The lawmakers’ demanded that the Federal Government set up a fact-finding mission to the affected areas in Plateau State was initially opposed, but later taken. The other demand was a call on President Goodluck Jonathan to reappraise the security situation in Plateau in the area of funds and other resources. When it was put to vote, the House was further divided along religious lines. Ihedioha again expressed concerns, saying “nothing in this motion hurts anyone dear colleagues,” thereby cooling tempers. He said: “We have just heard from our colleague who survived the attack. Our position is that we are doing everything possible to ensure that peace returns to Plateau State. But it is not the wish of this House to further debate this motion.” Former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, has condoled the Senate on the death of Senator Gyang Dantong from Plateau State. Senator Ita-Giwa said: “News of the dastardly slaying of a two-term serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria came to me as perhaps the rudest shock in my life. “In my career as a politician, I never contemplated a time when the life of the average Nigerian will count for so little. These are indeed perilous times.” “I commiserate with the family of my courageous colleague, Senator Gyang Dantong, who in the performance of his duty to his constituents, was hacked down so ruthlessly.” |
~Bluetooth:WORD!! What rubbish? |
Some people will never commend anything good. Must they even post their bigoted and hate filled minds here?? Any news of progress in Nigeria especially in SE or SS they start convulsing spewing rubbish. This country has a LONG LONG way to go especially with these bigots and haters very much around. You refuse to develop your region even your elites that stole the nation dry refuse to develop it, people from other regions come to develop it for you and you hate them kill them etc. They now develop their own region and you still have to spew your hate. Sometimes i wonder if these people are humans?? |
Okija_juju: A message from the gods@Okija juju, and what did the gods tell you is the way forward?? What you just said is what any normal person could see. No president would like to have double insurgency at his hands depending if the BZM will be a violent movement. |
Ohh you dont know Do i hate the police?? No i dont. Do i like them?? I like most uniform officers army being first. Will i like to get close to a Nigerian policeman?? GOD FORBID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
It could be just Fulani herds men against Berom ppl. In that case the cycle goes on. Or maybe the Core North "masters" have seen that One north jargon has been demystified. They now see that they can hardly win any election in nigeria without the middle belt and SW. Middle belt is trying to distance itself from the One North myth, hence the need to convince the middle belt (Teach the Middle beltans a lesson not to bite the hand that fed you) and their only method of conviction is violence. Let the Berom ppl take heart but they should stand tall and not be intimidated. As long as its one Nigeria, all tribes should be counted as equal. RIP to the dead. |
desari: @acidtalk... Great advice.@Bolded and after venting your frustration in NL you were given back a truck full of frustration by NLs. typical you reap what you sow. I pity OP obviously she didnt read much of NL threads to know the kind of response she would have gotten. If you had not mentioned about ur financial status or said things that made guys here feel insulted, you would have gotten better suggestions. Most of those that derailed your thread and mocked you could have given you better advice if they had not felt insulted. Bet me thats what you see in real life when you mean Nigerian men, i guess you have not met much of them cause if you have, you would have choosen your words carefully. BTW career women are not fun, they just have money. Nigerian men want fun fun fun. They can marry a career woman and have a fun concubine. Or are you fun?? |
Only if the men of God would predict what will get our country good and peaceful again. No light, no water, no jobs, terrorism up north, kidnapping and armed robbery in south, corruption everywhere, stealing in billions etc etc, yet its convenient for Men of God to predict what happens in far distant land in a field of amusement. Either we arent praying hard enough for God to show them predictions as affects ordinary Nigerian or ..... You guessed it right. God is watching. |
@Super1759, these ppl complaining dont own the site, but as far as nairaland is concerned seun need them and they need seun. Seun need their traffic. if they start complaining a lot and start leaving one after the other, soon the traffic will drop. I personally go off nairaland if i look through the front page and see all those post that dont interest me. By the way, if there were better posts am sure seun would put them on front page. If most front page posts are rubbish, it goes to show the kind of ppl posting topics in NL. |
If this man is serious about Negotiating with these BH, then you all better get prepared and arm yourselves. If GEJ government stick to its stand that they will negotiate if only the leaders of BH show their face. Then: The BH leaders may give negotiation by proxy as first condition for dialog. Government may not agree. If the BH leaders come out to negotiate, then at one point The negotiations will definitely fail. Cause their demands will be impossible to the government. Then the two parties go back to their trenches and it will be full scale fire for fire. Now the Gov has seen their confirmed faces, we then see how easy it is for Army to shoot rabits in desert. |
Jesus was also criticized, mocked and finally crucified by the same ppl he came to save so it didnt start today. GEJ will overcome am confident of that even though he walks in the valley of shadow of death he shall not fear. May God be with him |
If Igbos can rise from the ashes of the civil war, i doubt if this will close up the ibo man. |
Dr Isaiah, if i were you i would go get court injunction or what ever use the court to force NYSC to withdraw your posting to a troubled state. Talk to a lawyer there should be a way out. If na me i no go go oohh!! |
Storry, Even if a the plane was laden with bombs all round it, it will hardly be able to burn a human skull complete to ashes, talkless of burning all the 100+ human skulls to ashes. It may burn up the flesh but not the bones to ashes. Maybe the prof didnt find skulls cause he didnt care to look or widen his search. Yes the Jet fuel is highly combustible, a little electrical fault could turn that plane into a flying bomb. |
I just wonder why ppl cant let Catholics practice their faith?? The only church that you see building churches in all hinterlands and even in famine infested countries. You non Catholics should reply with the names of your churches and its pastors or overseers, lets wait another 25yrs see which church is still standing. THE GATE OF HELL SHALL NEVER PREVAIL AGAINST THEE. Its more than 2000 years now and still counting, your rants are like pouring water on stone. Practice you own and let Catholics practice theirs, is it too much to ask?? Only one church will ever stand till Christ comes, be it this millenuim or next. Guess which church it is. |
@OP, it depends on what you mean by commitment. A man may use up his resources (love, money, emotions) to woo the wife to be. Once he is married to her, those resources need to be diverted to building a strong and as secure home as he can (especially if not a silver spoon man). He has to channel them to ensure that the family doesnt suffer in the long run. At least that's what is happening to me, and i made sure my wife understands that. Eg i reduced frequency of taking her out and buying new wares and gifts cause the money has to be channeled to new investments to secure our future and that of our kid(s) God willing. Many women dont understand this though and initially my wife didnt till i painted the picture for her. Women love pictures so if you paint it for her she wont say you reduced commitment. |

According to GEJ, its a big business criticizing his administration. So Gov knows about the paid agents and internet warriors. You paid agents take note, you will not receive DFI (Direct Foreign Investments). You guys know their handles in NL so tell the ones you know. |

There is no excuse for military to come back. Nigerians are lazy thats why they hope that military come back, instead of holding your LG chairman, rep, senator, governor and then president accountable you are there dreaming about military. the egyptians wanted military, now why r they back in streets demonstrating?? |
Will there be another sting operation?? After GEJ appears before them what will they do?? Order BH to stop?? MF!!!! |
A group of Northern Christians called CHAIN have blamEd the recent spate of violence in Kaduna on the recent utterances of Muhammadu Buhari which they branded as inciteful. Buhari, the CPC presidential candidate in last year's election has beenn caught up in controversial statements of late. CHAIN released the statement below; Christian Awareness Initiative of Nigeria (CHAIN) is very concerned that Muhammadu Buhari, a resident of Kaduna city in Kaduna state has kept a loud silence in view of the series of bloody suicide attacks that greeted five churches in Kaduna this past weekend. Our concern is all the more heightened given the fact that Muhammadu Buhari was very vociferous in calling for bloodshed only a few weeks ago and when bloodshed arrived at his door steps he has chosen to keep quiet. It would be recalled that when Buhari made his call for bloodshed between "dogs" and "baboons", Christian Awareness Initiative of Nigeria (CHAIN) warned that his comments were capable of inciting violence from sleeper cells who were waiting for his commands to strike. At that time we had warned in a widely publicized statement carried in most Nigerian papers that "Buhari should not turn the current war on terror to a North versus South affair. When Buhari says that "Since the leaders now don’t listen to anybody but do whatever they wish, there is nothing the north can do" We call on Nigerians to recall those words of Buhari and note how those words have incited the recent events in Kaduna. But perhaps more damning is Buhari's loud silence when all around him in Kaduna extremists are fulfilling his prophecy. Does Buhari's silence mean consent? We wish to state that we believe that there is a direct link between the inciting rhetoric of Buhari and the recent unpsurge of violence. Furthermore, we call on Nigerians to ask themselves the following questions; When was the last time that Buhari condemned Boko Haram or any of their attacks? Who are those calling for the Federal Government to dialogue with Boko Haram? When Nigerians have objectively answered the above questions, they will find that Buhari and his political party and close associates habitually keep a loud silence when it comes to condemning Boko Haram, but are most vociferous when it comes to calling for dialogue with Boko Haram. Need we say more? Nigerians should read between the lines. Nigerians may want to cast their minds back to only a week ago when Buhari who only a few days before was using the Dana Crash to score political points travelled to Kano to celebrate and felicitate with the CBN governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, on his turbanning as Dan Majen Kano, just five days after the crash which threw the whole nation into mourning. Buhari's comments on Shari'a just before the Shari'a riots in Kaduna in 2000 stoked the flames that ended up claiming over 2000 lives, his comments to Muslims to vote only Muslim candidates in 2003 polarized Nigeria and led to mutual distrust during the 2003 elections, his comments on lynching people stoked the post election violence that swept Northern Nigeria after the 2011 elections and finally his "dog" and "baboon....soaked in blood" rhetoric incited the recent violence in Kaduna just as the comments of Hutu politicians calling Tutsis "cockroaches" led to the ethnic cleansing that claimed 2 Million lives in Rwanda. A slave who sees his fellow slave being buried in a shallow grave should know that he will be so buried when his own time comes if he does not escape. If Nigerians think Buhari's comments cannot lead to ethnic cleansing then they should be reminded of the recent statement by an Italian minister that what is happening in Northern Nigeria is ethnic and religious cleansing.
