harbiola1: Answer:Why your Answer is Ultimately Wrong Your theory is that of the Jewish commentators. Originally, they suggested that the mother was Abi, the wife of Ahaz (2 Kings 18:2), and the son Hezekiah, who delivered Judah from the Assyrian power (see Justin, 'Dial. cum Tryphon.,' p. 262). But this was early disproved by showing that, according to the numbers of Kings (2 Kings 16:2; 2 Kings 18:2), Hezekiah was at least nine years old in the first year of Ahaz, before which this prophecy could not have been delivered (Isaiah 7:1). The second suggestion made identified the mother with Isaiah's wife, the "prophetess" of Isaiah 8:3, and made the son a child of his, called actually Immanuel, or else his son Maher-shalal-hash-baz (Isaiah 8:1) under a symbolical designation. But ha-'almah, "the virgin," would be a very strange title for Isaiah to have given his wife, and the rank assigned to Immanuel in Isaiah 8:8 would not suit any son of Isaiah's. It remains to regard the 'almah as "some young woman actually present," name, rank, and position unknown, and Immanuel as her son, also otherwise unknown (Cheyne). But the grand exordium, "The Lord himself shall give you a sign - Behold!" and the rank of Immanuel (Isaiah 8: , are alike against this. From your findings you were not even sure of ur assertions. It informs us that you are basically not intrested in the light but looking for a way to put the light off. You are the same as Herod in Jesus' time. He failed! Be warned. You are threading the path of failure too. Again, Jesus is Lord! |
This is a great news! That God is truly with us. It only takes a Spirit-filled fellow to say "Jesus is Lord" Modified: Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign,.... Whether they would ask one or not; a sign both in heaven and earth, namely, the promised Messiah; who being the Lord from heaven, would take flesh of a virgin on earth; and who as man, being buried in the heart of the earth, would be raised from thence, and ascend up into heaven; and whose birth, though it was to be many years after, was a sign of present deliverance to Judah from the confederacy of the two kings of Syria and Israel; and of future safety, since it was not possible that this kingdom should cease to be one until the Messiah was come, who was to spring from Judah, and be of the house of David; wherefore by how much the longer off was his birth, by so much the longer was their safety. Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son; this is not to be understood of Hezekiah, the son of Ahaz, by his wife, as some Jewish writers interpret it, by observing that Hezekiah was nine years old when his father began to reign, and this being, as he says, the fourth year of his reign, he must be at this time thirteen years of age and besides, his mother could not be called a "virgin": and for the same reason it cannot be understood of any other son of his either by his wife, as Kimchi thinks, or by some young woman; moreover, no other son of his was ever lord of Judea, as this Immanuel is represented to be, in Isaiah 8:8 nor can it be interpreted of Isaiah's wife and son, since the prophet could never call her a "virgin", who had bore him children, one of which was now with him; nor indeed a "young woman", but rather "the prophetess", as in Isaiah 8:3 nor was any son of his king of Judah, as this appears to be, in the place before cited: but the Messiah is here meant, who was to be born of a pure virgin; as the word here used signifies in all places where it is mentioned, as Genesis 24:43 and even in Proverbs 30:19 which is the instance the Jews give of the word being used of a woman corrupted; since it does not appear that the maid and the adulterous woman are one and the same person; and if they were, she might, though vitiated, be called a maid or virgin, from her own profession of herself, or as she appeared to others who knew her not, or as she was antecedent to her defilement; which is no unusual thing in Scripture, see Deuteronomy 22:28 to which may be added, that not only the Evangelist Matthew renders the word by "a virgin"; but the Septuagint interpreters, who were Jews, so rendered the word hundreds of years before him; and best agrees with the Hebrew word, which comes from the root which signifies to "hide" or "cover"; virgins being covered and unknown to men; and in the eastern country were usually kept recluse, and were shut up from the public company and conversation of men: and now this was the sign that was to be given, and a miraculous one it was, that the Messiah should be born of a pure and incorrupt virgin; and therefore a "behold" is prefixed to it, as a note of admiration; and what else could be this sign or wonder? not surely that a young married woman, either Ahaz's or Isaiah's wife, should be with child, which is nothing surprising, and of which there are repeated instances every day; nor was it that the young woman was unfit for conception at the time of the prophecy, which was the fancy of some, since no such intimation is given either in the text or context; nor did it lie in this, that it was a male child, and not a female, which was predicted, as R. Saadiah Gaon, in Aben Ezra, would have it; for the sign or wonder does not lie in the truth of the prophet's prediction, but in the greatness of the thing predicted; besides, the verification of this would not have given the prophet much credit, nor Ahaz and the house of David much comfort, since this might have been ascribed rather to a happy conjecture than to a spirit of prophecy; much less can the wonder be, that this child should eat butter and honey, as soon as it was born, as Aben Ezra and Kimchi suggest; since nothing is more natural to, and common with young children, than to take down any kind of liquids which are sweet and pleasant. And shall call his name Immanuel; which is, by interpretation, "God with us", Matthew 1:23 whence it appears that the Messiah is truly God, as well as truly man: the name is expressive of the union of the two natures, human and divine, in him; of his office as Mediator, who, being both God and man, is a middle person between both; of his converse with men on earth, and of his spiritual presence with his people. John 1:14. |

I have come to notice this about most of the church/gospel tracts and bullettins we distribute almost every day. First is the outright rejection of the gospel tracts while its being handed out and most disgusting is the way the tracts are treated afterward. I seem not to get why this tracts are rejected, may be i can get a help in this regard. Up to the bullettin we are given in church, we dont read them. What do you do to gospel tracts and why do you choose to do that? |

You and I know that this SH reporters are only expressing views through reportage, but a report having a political undertone is as bad as lie. They are creating the false belief that every news release of theirs is a fact to be reckoned with and PDP or no PDP we are comparing personalities. Till tomorrow Fashola will command more respect than the order man you mentioned mooregan: Oh!! Now SH na Success Haters. If they were taking abt GEJ or PDP they would have been d best set of journalists in d world. |
The event is typical of those calling for attention, like some one has rightly said, anyone who is able to boo a governor can climb the position of a self acclaimed activist. funnyx: How? Did the event happen or not? |
It is a journalistic political attempt to disrepute the person of the governor funnyx: Leave Sahara reporters alone they didn't manufacture the news they merely reported what happened and it's their job to report. |
Let them |
Sharia reporters or whatever their name is, it seems they have no news at desk to report. What happened to the hundreds of roads that have been repaired all over Lagos or did the grandfather of this news company died before it was repaired? Bunch of success haters. The Minister for Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, says next year's World Economic Forum (WEF) in Nigeria will be an opportunity for Africa to showcase its investment potentials. Okonjo-Iweala made this known on Monday in Abuja at the official inauguration of the 24th WEF on Africa, tagged 'Forging Inclusive Growth, Creating Jobs'. According to her, the forum which is scheduled to take place between May 7 and 9 in Abuja, would attract Head of Governments and Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of global firms, among others. "The WEF is a non-profit foundation based in Switzerland, dedicated to improving the state of the world through the facilitation of business engagement. "The African edition began in 1990 and it has been held in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Mozambique, Tanzania, and Ethiopia. In 2014, it will be in Nigeria. "We are honoured to have been chosen as the venue for this important meeting. "It is a reflection of the growing attraction of Nigeria to the international capital as one of the world’s most rewarding new market”. The minister said that the WEF would be an unprecedented opportunity for Nigeria to showcase its vast economic opportunities and deepen dialogue on economic reforms between the international and Nigerian private sector. "The theme chosen by the WEF for the 2014 summit aligns perfectly with the medium and long-term aspirations and commitment of the Federal Government of Nigeria. "Hosting WEF next year will not only ensure that Nigeria remains the largest recipient of Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) in Africa. "It will also ensure that we attract broad based investments that will generate millions of jobs for our youthful population," she said. Okonjo-Iweala said that Nigeria still needed international financial support in spite of attracting 20 billion dollars in FDIs in the last three years. "We recongnise the challenge we face in converting the vast human and natural resources we have into broad economic prosperity and improvement of standard of living through job creation. "With the whole economic and political world focused on Nigeria during the meeting, it places enormous responsibilities on the country." She said that the forum would present opportunities for Nigeria in terms of investments, tourism and increased international relevance in driving local and foreign investments, promotion of inclusive growth and employment. Dr Nwanze Okidegbe, the Chief Economic Adviser to the President, said that the President was excited about the summit and was looking forward to receive the captains of industries across the globe. Okidegbe said that the theme of the summit was consistent with the president's transformation agenda, adding that the visit would be bring in significant increased FDIs into the country. "The president believes in thorough planning, preparation and achieving results. So he wants the WEF 2014 to be the best ever. "He has set up a steering committee comprising of key government functionaries and leading private sector players." The committee to be co-chaired by the Coordinating Minister and Okidegbe, includes Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Mr Tony Elumelu, Mr Bisi Onasanya, Mr Nduka Obaigbena and Mr Wale Tinubu. He said that the steering committee would be supported by the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) secretariat, led by the Director-General, Mr Frank Nweke. The Chief Executive officer of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote , described as unfortunate WEF non reflection of Nigeria’s involvement and impact in Africa’s development over the years. Dangote, who was represented by the group Executive Director, Stakeholder Management, Mr Mansur Ahmed, said that Nigeria's hosting of WEF in 2014 would enable the country to showcase its business potential. "We believe that the private sector in Nigeria has a key role to play in contributing to the attainment of inclusive growth and job creation in the country," he said. Happy Sunday to everyone! There is rarely any street you will pass through today without seeing at least a church, there are even cases of one denomination having more than one church building on a street. Preachers now share the word anchored on different doctrinal belief. The gospel is now a joke to many, they believe the church of God is divided against itself. Some uninformed fellow will say things such as "people are suffering, and you keep sharing tracts, why not share the money used in printing those tracts". One on one evangelism is gradually on the decline. Majority of media preachers now attach importance to people coming to crusade and revivals than winning souls for Christ. Do we still announce the gospel irrespective of race and colour? MASS evangelism is now turning into funfair. Are we really bringing the goodnews to the door steps of poor and unbelievers or making prey of them due to their economic disadvantage? Is love the major drive for the gospel today or love money? My observations might be limited, but to you, are we really spreading the word or marketing our denominational reach? So lets all contribute. And as Christians we are peculiar people, royal priesthood, we should contribute, bringing forward solutions to help in this great commission. Have a lovely eclipsical experience. |

If an African country has won the U-17 than any other country, if not for racism, why not increase our slot? |
I have long wanted to ask this question and share my experience on this platform of those awkward moment of stubbornness. I remembered in my undergraduate days, when I won a scholarship. When it was time for winners to start getting their funds, it's either my name was missing or my mail was deleted from the company's data base. I didn't get my notification or congratulatory message either. I immediately contacted the company. I was told that scholarship issues are not dealt with in Lagos and I have to come to Port Harcourt. I told my mum about this, she disagreed with my going. She brought up kidnap issues, militancy issues just to discourage me. She told me stories of people who went to that part of the country and never returned. She made me believe that my not being able to get the notification and acceptance letter was act of God. She also alleged that the staffs of the company might have misappropriated the fund to their pocket. At one point i easy buying those ideal, but still felt this was my money. Right within me, i started deleting those brain washing elements. All she was telling me became poison to my reasoning. After all said, the following Monday, i embarked on d journey to Port Harcourt against my parents will. From Lagos to Port Harcourt is 10hours, my journey on that day turned 15 hrs when i got to Port harcourt 12 am. This was 2009 when the militants where still having a good time in there operations. I was only pulling myself together at this point. I had to sleep in front of a business center that has recently been water-logged while fighting the mosquito night war. The night was becoming unusually longer, just as one aboki challenged me in d middle of my sleep. I had to run for my life at that time of the night (1am). I searched if i could see a church around all to no avail. The only one available was waterlogged too. Anyway, i had to stay awake all the night. And i achieved my aim of traveling with that risk. Total E and P paid me 3 times. Thanks to them and ultimately God who granted me safety trip. I missed a scholarship like that in my second year just because I didn'ttravel early enough, so I appreciate the value of scholarships. But that wouldn't have been possible if I didn't disobey my parents. Now I can boldly tell the story of how I won Total E and P OML 130. Again it wouldn't have been possible with total obedience. I'm pretty sure you guys have more than once experienced such, kindly let us learn from them. Fellow nairalanders share your disobedience story and the respective testimonies and trials. |
There is nowhere else to fulfill the thirst for optimal Godly function than the church. Happy Sunday. Peace! |
