PoliticsRe: Untold Story Of Nigeria-Niger Republic Rail Line by Tekrify(m): 3:38pm On Feb 24, 2021
The distance between Nigeria and Niger is 21km..it makes more sense if the rail is just extended an extra 21km to the next town after the border..this means they don't have to bring in trucks with their dangerous Fulani drivers...their goods can travel from apapa straight into Maradi which is the next town after 5he border..it no as if the rail is traveling deep into Niger...

I believe it better as if makes it unnecessary for trucks to be driven into Kano or which ever place for their cargo....
21km isn't much of a big deal ..it will even make dem choose the Nigerian port other than our neighbors
Agboriotejoye:
Nobody has said building rail from Lagos to Kano is a bad idea. It's Kano to Maradi that's a stupid and wasteful one. The combine GDP of NIger and Chad that you mentioned is not up to half of the combined GDP of Lagos and PH. So why waste $1.9bn to build a rail there when we can easily drop the goods at Kano and they pick it up and transport to their Maradi by road.
Financially speaking, there's nothing to be gained building a rail to the poorest countries in the world that depend on international aid to survive when we can build to Ghana that has ten times of their GDP and a bigger manufacturing and consumer base. This thing is simple

Now that the rail is yet to reach Niger....have we not had a lot of illegal immigrants (herdmens and refugees) troop into the country?
wink2015:
This railway will open doors for illegal immigrant to enter Nigeria.

If u rightly claim the system the British left was good...then if also right we say that the Igbos are responsible for tarnishing it by committing the first coup and installing ironsi...

Secondly I have studied the Nigerian history very well...
The first system of government the British left is similar to the confederation proposed by Azikiwe..
The major fraud in it was that there were rooms for northern people to dominate appointment...Ojukwu complained about it in respect to the military...

Even that time based on ethnicity..the regions shouldn't have been 3....
Inshort I think if Nigeria is restructured ....the regions should be 5... the north whose major ethnic group is Hausa \fulani...the middle belt... comprising many ethnic groups with part of the north east...

The south west with Yoruba..south east with Igbo and South South will many tribes too...
North having two geopolitical zones gives them more seat in power , senate government office ..etc..so the power should be shared amongst this 5 regions as well as the number of state....cuz one of the reason the SE is deprived gov. Activities is their low number of states...

If Nigeria divide or remain an entity does Change anybody minds... something failed before because the obvious wrong things were done meaning if the right things are done ..things won't change with time...

Nigeria isn't a nation..true..but it name can be change and it system restructured because there are economic potentials cuz of the population it representation with the highest GDP in Africa....

The Nigeria mind today are way better than those in the 19s..in short if we are to experience any problem...it should come from the many uneducated older ones whom generally are more rogue and ethnically biased...
The younger ones hardly exhibit that because of a modern era and slightly better education...the endsars protest is an example... imagine if that was left in the hands of our parents...
If the ones with mentalities that can't accept or think beyond Yoruba or Igbo over serious matters are the brainwashed people, least educated ones...

No sane person will say Nigeria doesn't have problems..but if the problems are solved why can't we move one..
Religion has been used to deceive us in Africa more than those who introduced it..
It not as if Biafra will be paradise whatsoever...

Our long lasting solution is to restructure this country based on regions so that everyone region can mind their business and pay taxes to and allocation of the federal government..like it is done in the UK,
Ensure there are equal number of states in every region cuz the north (Hausa specifically)having 13 states is the reason why they fill almost every government office..

Poverty should be greatly reduced

Security issues should be delt with...

Change the Nigerian name and everything related to it..

Ones all these are done...weytin remain.. the minds of Nigerians will begin to relax...in the next generation..things will progress without anyone even knowing we went through this...

One of the problems we have today is that the things that should have be done correctly after the civil war never happened...and it one of the biggest problem we are facing today....Las Las..did Nigerians not forget about since if not because the sins where not adequately washed away?...

See I still believe a new country can rise from Nigeria with all of us remaining intact if the right thing is done....India suffered something similar..they were able to solve, Rwanda is an example, Tanzania...and many more....
So stop making it sound so much of a big deal...only if our leaders are willing...
If they are willing they will give the right region the access to the number one seat and restructure...
isthatso:
Most of the things you say are true or mostly true theoretically but you ignore the most important thing.....the actors, the people!

I dont know how much you have read up on Nigerian history but if you have you will understand Nigeria was doomed from the get go, not because of the system we inherited but because of the people that populated that system. It did not work then and it will not work now.

The British did not make a mistake, they gave us a system that should have worked, protected the regions from each other, each region controlled it's own affairs to the point that each region had it's own embassy in the UK. They may have conspired to give political power to the North but that was all it was...political power, the real power was in the regions. Balewa did not have any power over the Oil in the Midwest region or the education in the western region. It was we Nigerians with tribal insecurities and power play that messed it up and we will mess up again! Why are we now clamouring for a return to the system the British left, if as you say it was so bad? The British left a system of 3 regions where no one region could ammend the constitution without the approval of at least 1 other region, so the North could not do anything against the south even if they had political power or electoral numbers. It was not the British that colluded with the North to weaken the Western region by creating the MidWest region. Those were local inter tribal political plays that wont go away and if anything the distrust is even worse today.

We were the ones who through shortsightedness and greed inadvertently handed power to the north. it wasnt the british or the North that promulgated the unification decree and created a powerful centre and weak regions/states, it wasnt the British or the north that removed the right to a referendum from the constitution. If Nigeria failed in the 1960s, when we had nationalists and patriots and a good system, then it has no hope now. Asking to go back to the system we had is like trying to restart a relationship with a partner that didnt work simply because you had some happy times together and you havent found anyone since, you forget the turbulence and most importantly...that there was a reason you broke up in the 1st place!!!!

The mistake the British made was 1) either granting independence too soon to an unsophisticated people who were not ready in terms of enlightenment, nationalism and education, to a people who saw things primarily in terms of tribe and/or 2) thinking that they could ever make a country out of primarily at least 3 or 4 separate countries.

We need to accept we are different peoples, our cultures and identities and values are different and as such any attempt to keep us together under the same rules will NEVER work. The best that we can hope for is a confederation like Ojukwu suggested where everybody does his own thing. A confederation is effectively seperate countries agreeing to cooperate on certain issues eg military, external affairs etc and we enjoy the benefits of a common economic area, free movement etc. Alas the Nigerian mind is to short sighted to embrace that and so we will continue to try and force together a union that isnt and in doing thast ensuring our distrust for each other increases and by extension ensuring doom and collapse is inevitable.
PoliticsRe: FFK: I Told Nnamdi Kanu How Buhari Told Me He Hates Igbo People by Tekrify(m): 10:39am On Feb 09, 2021
Exactly meaning that if Nigeria is sustained..it benefits the Igbos as well...which is what brings me to electing an igbo person first...that alone will solve many problems in the mind of Nigerians and reduce the tension as well...cuz atleast we will have a president elected based on equity as every one knows it the turn of the igbos....

Secondly.. Nigeria should be restructured, it name changed and it 1999 constitution changed or restructured...only then do we know that we are free from the mistake the British left..
The reason why Nigeria is like this is because of the I'll system Britain left in the hands of the northerners..
We are wiser now...no one can cheat the other anymore..even the northerners understand it better...

So if we restructure properly in a way and manner that gives more resources control to regions and Completely tear down that 1999 constitution..and change the country name...

The country can avoid collapse...we are not the First to do...it not rocket science...
We know are problems and solutions....

Next will be to sort out the security issues
isthatso:
[s][/s]

Nigeria will collapse with or without an Ibo President. It is only a matter of when. It’s been collapsing for decades and we are closer to the end than the beginning. I doubt this country has 10 years left in it....certainly not another 20!

Truth is it has already collapsed for all intents and purpose, and is only held together by religion (hope) and authoritarianism!

It is too late to save Nigeria, if I were an Ibo man I would start preparing for the inevitable, by that I mean I would be very wary investing in immovable assets outside the SE. The Ibo man is the one with the most to lose if Nigeria collapses because most of his businesses is outside or dependent on outside the SE.

What you people need, is to forget about this herdsmen issue and rather focus on getting one of your men into Aso rock as president.

Yoruba people voted massively for APC and it's time they are rewarded with the presidency. All your displaced farmers and people could leave the villages and relocate to Abuja where they will be given jobs as federal government workers.

Ur comment is as useless
There is absolutely no tribe that doesnt have it negativity...
An Hausa can kill u because of his religion and he feels justified for it...(I guess that is better than Igbo cheating u).

Everyone know that a Yoruba person can't be trusted they are like chameleons and don't like to see other people progress..they are also cowards most times .some believe they are dirty and professional in skull mining..

It a common believe that Fulani are second to Satan himself...

The Tiv women are believed to be natural prostitutes.similar to Edo who are seen as witches too....

Mention any tribe in Nigeria that isn't clean...

Ur just very daft and stupid...so because Igbo people cheat ..they are no worthy to be trusted or be President but the devils who have been terrorising the Hausa and Yoruba that they installed their kingship there (Ilorin and Hausa lands) deserve to be trusted...
Ur talking as if the Igbo have the biggest problems in Nigeria..that u placed an Hausa man higher...an absolute disgrace ...(just for placing an Hausa man above ..I can't consider you to be sane)..

U mess with an Hausa man religion..let see how that goes

Prolific007:
I Do Not Doubt That An Igbo Man Is Prosperous But What I Find Disheartening About Them Is That Most Igbo Businessmen And Women Doesn't Like Being Sincere And Trustworthy They Only Seek For Money Which They Won't Even Take When Livin' The World. That's One Of The Reason Why A "Hausa Man" Is Seen Or Perceived To Be Higher.

A Hausa Man Can Give You Credit As Per Being His Reliable Customer But An Igbo Man Won't Dare That Because Of Lack Of Trust For Himself Talk More Of Another Person. Also An Environment Where The Igbo's Dominate They Tend To Regulate The Price Of Things By Constantly Increasing It But To What End, It Is Just To Fund Their Lifestyle. And Them The Igbo Women Are So Proud Of Themselves Like They Created Theirselves That's Why They Won't Date Another Tribe But Their Own That Owns A Kiosk Or Shop And You Can See How Much Of Them That Remains Single For Decades Without Changin' The Terrible Character.

Sorry To Say But This Has Been Exhibited By Most; A Typical Igbo Woman Is Proud And Arrogant For No Reason Or No Just Cause

We Should All Try And Stop All The Hating And Bashing....For It Is Evident Now That A Nigerian Man It Is His Own Problem And Not Even The Government.

Please If You Want To Come For Me Be Constructive In Your Criticism And Not Blabs

The upcoming elections will really tell how far this country will go...if an igbo man isn't found in that number one seat..then forget it... Nigeria will collapse...the fee Igbos who still keep a neutral mind about Biafra and Nigeria and the very few who still hope in one Nigeria will eventually see it uselessness...
isthatso:
Is this news, is anybody surprised? Have the ibos forgotten the civil war? why then do we expect that Northerners have forgotten that their leaders were killed? I tell people all the time anytime the issue of Ibo presidency comes up, there will never be an Ibo president. It's not just Buhari, it's the whole North, they havent forgotten and they will never forget and they will rather Bleep up the whole country as is happenning now in a bid to hold on to power that put the ibos in the position of political and military power.

Thats just the reality of Nigeria, it's not just Buhari!

You cannot take the title of king of infrastructure from Buhari. He is better in infrastructure development than all our past leaders combined. Even his worst enemies cannot deny this.

However, a Major General that cannot secure his people, is that one a Major General or a Major Failure?

If his blood sucking vampire brother herdsmen kill all Nigerians, who will use the infrastructure? Will herdsmen start using Enugu International Airport to move their Cows from Sokoto to Enugu ni?

But we Southerners will not fold our arms and watch blood sucking vampires from the Sahara desert to overrun us, we will match the desert warriors blood for blood

It a valid point... question..did buhari not remove the subsidies on electricity and fuel... how did that sound to Nigerians... Lol.. the part in bold is very glaring...u see investors are not daft ...for example ..the lekki ikoyi link bridge cost 30 billion naira and was built by Investors....that bridge alone has the capacity to generate nearly 300bn in 30 years before the Lagos state government takes over it as part of the agreement...the story even if u do all those things u mentioned is very different for the rails... In government is taking 5.6bn to invest in the rail it will take more than a decade to recover the Complete money before u even think of making profit..that why rails most times are financed by government not investors cuz it not something an investor will recover his money in 3 years or so....
So borrowing loans with low interest rates and agreement of payments within 2 to 3 decades are the best ways of building such kind of infrastructure...if u want investors or private bodies to put in their money.. expect the price of ticket to be half of that of airlines cuz investors will want their money fast...this is basic economics...

Those steps above removing subsidies have no direct effect on the rail... that should be done on fuel import and electricity.. buhari has done that..this is why tony elumelu was able to confidently partner with the government for the taking over of some power plants with the hope that he what ever money his company (transcorp) invest they can get it quickly since the market willl be free from government interference.. the same thing with petroleum and Dangote is gonna profit from that too....

Why do u think we had no growth through out those years we ran on subsidies despite the fact that any investors knows that if he invest in power or petroleum refining he or she could have a monopoly...

Those are valid point but it not so applicable for the rails... like I gave an example on lekki ikoyi link bridge..let me give u another solid example...u see that Abuja Kaduna railine.jonathan borrowed 800 million dollars to build it...and the profit on that railline in a month when u remove the expenditure isn't up to 50 million naira oo...so if that 800 million dollars came from an investor..do u know how many years that investor is gonna wait till he recovers his capital?...
U see why it can't really work for rails So the terms associated with loans not just from a country but banks inclusively gives room to spread payment within decades as far as an agreement is reached.. such ideas of subsidies and all u said is best for power, transportation and roads... and it not a new thing In Nigeria... That is what allowed BRT to work in Lagos and lekki ikoyi bridge to be built and it is a similar thing that is financing the 2nd Niger bridge by NSIA..
omohayek:
One would think the part in bold above from you is where sensible people would concentrate their efforts: rather than going on a borrowing spree to fund investments private-sector operators consider too risky, why not make Nigeria into the kind of place they would feel comfortable investing not just $5.6 billion but even $56 billion? It's not as if this requires rocket science to figure out either, as the original article actually provides advice on what to do: abolish the opaque multi-tier currency regime, deregulate the economy (including removing all subsidies), privatize wherever possible and strengthen private property rights. These are all things which would be worth doing anyway, whether or not we are looking at the railways. No modern economy has ever been built mostly on Buhari-style massive borrowing.
PoliticsRe: Taiwo Oyedele: FG Borrowing To Fix Rail Is A Wrong Priority by Tekrify(m): 1:25pm On Jan 31, 2021
We are still in the same direction..
The Chinese are more or less the investors..and ofcourse there is an interest rate on their loans...
The thing is government just did what any sane economist and investor will do by working solely on Lagos to Maradi line...it is the lunatics and tribal bigot amongst us are consigned about which region get the rail first...and am glad amaechi and the government are not moved by such dull reasoning...the Lagos Maradi route remains the only viable line..
.
On the part of private investors..lol..where are u gonna see investors that will be willing to pay 5.6bn dollars ooo to complete the remaining portion of Lagos to Kano...so the best thing is seek for loans and invest it in viable projects...
omohayek:
All of this "east vs north" speculation is pointless, and only illustrates why this would have been best left to profit-seeking investors. The point of allowing the private-sector to fund and build the rail lines is that unlike you and everyone else on here, they'll be motivated to do the due diligence to learn where the market truly is rather than indulging tribal sentiments, because they'll be putting their own funds on the line: investment banks, hedge funds and big companies like GE have no time or energy to waste on "Igbo vs Hausa" nonsense. If they make the bet that it's in one direction vs. another, and they turn out to be wrong, any resulting wahala will be between them and their bondholders and shareholders, instead of every Nigerian having to shoulder the burden of paying the loan.

Some of y'all are very shortsighted in reasoning....
Weather u like it or not Lagos to Maradi (Niger) is the most viable rail line in Nigeria..
Y'all open ur brain..is the railline going to fly over the air...this is a line linking almost all the most heavily industrialised state and cities Including high population... this includes Lagos , Ogun ibadan Abuja,Zaria Kaduna and Kano....
Inshort the entire industries in the SS and SE combined is not up to Ogun state alone not to mention the other state and Lagos....

Y all think rail line should be built in regions with people who travel the most (SE) ...and fail to understand the economics of railines.. freight and cargo will be the biggest source of revenue.. imagine all the freight needed by all this cities go on that rail ..u now include entire cargo and freight Niger uses being imported through the Lagos port and transported through the rail..the revenue will be huge this is the advantages other regions lack..go to Kano and see the number of factories, including Ogun, ibadan and Lagos...tell me which region has up to a quarter..it on record that Lagos to Maradi can move 30 million tonnes of cargo ...PH to Maiduguri will crosses the SE can only mange 10 million tonnes..Lagos to Calabar is yet to be calculated but it obvious it can never beat that of Lagos to Maradi .. because the only major place is Onitsha...

This means government will make 3x more money in Lagos to Maradi compared to pH to Maiduguri if it is to be built instead
lastclaire4:
As well as Daura to Niger right? Rail is not what you construct anyhow how many economic activities are going on between Nigeria and Niger that they borrowed huge money. Obviously, they cant pay back the capital from money that will be generated on that route.
PoliticsRe: Taiwo Oyedele: FG Borrowing To Fix Rail Is A Wrong Priority by Tekrify(m):
So tell us how government is supposed to generate 5.6bn dollars to build rail..when it revenue has crashed by over 60 percent...oil prices down by more than 120 percent compared to 2013... Only 6 percent of GDP get to the government has tax compared to nearly 25 Percent of SA and beyond 40 percent of the UK....y'all need to understand that many of the largest Infrastructural project being built aren't 100 percent government funded... Ur talking about borrowing..are u aware the UK debt to GDP is beyond 100 percent...I repeat abover percent...the US exhides 60 percent...SA over 45 percent, Kenya and Ethiopia all have debt above 60 percent of GDP..... Nigeria is hovering around 30 percent and y'all are going haywire...many of the rail and overall viable infrastructure these days aren't 100 percent government funded..the almighty UAE is a big example, the UK follows too...

Nigeria is 50 years backward...if it takes loans to get the right things done let it be...almost every piece of infrastructure is viable and can be commercialised so repayment should be a big problem...the Lagos Ibadan rail line which cost 1.6bn...am very optimistic when it begin to move freight from apapa and run and Maximum capacity..it gonna generate more Dan enough to pay back the loans. .. something useless Jonathan didn't think of before doing Abuja to Kaduna..

The only creative way government can generate such huge money is to tax u more and remove subsidies...Oh yeah..
they did but u will complained!!
Since Oil has lost it glory and value..is government supposed to be looking? undecided

As daft as buhari is..his administration has invested heavily into viable infrastructure than any other leader since 1914....from the Lagos Ibadan express road,2nd Niger bridge, AKK gas line, the rails..etc...
All this are viable...
He even wanted to borrow money from Russia to fix ajaokuta steel mill and the refinery too..this is how nations are built..no country is ran 100 percent by government funding..know this and know peace..
Most projects are financed by PPP or loans ..study those two terms ..they have similar characteristics

If other government borrowed to fund infrastructure..we won't be in this mess...

Common SA has more debts than Nigeria..it citizen aren't complaining much cuz they can see results...
We are borrowing to achieve similar results too

but it obvious that the ticket in 2023 is going to the south....that every political party knows that...
So it obvious that since in the forth Republic both the SW and SS has had substantial share...the next is the SE...end of matter...when the SE finishes it 8 year tenure and ofcourse the ticket will have to go to the north den NC and NE can be debated..
End of story..

Respectfully disagree. Nobody gave the SW the slot in 1999. Alex Ekueme, battled for the PDP nomination with Obasanjo. The presidency was zoned to the South in 1999 to placate over June 12. That was a one off. The presidency was also never zoned to the SS, it was fate that allowed GEJ emerge. By the logic of your argument the NE and NC also have a claim in 2023.

Baba...he remains a man...
Gym or no gym has no effect on his relationship with a slut or what so ever....
Besides over several interviews on CNN and another with a renounce journalist (can't recall his name)he claims to visit the gym regularly..
meobizy:
Money really makes a man. It’s obvious he has no idea what a gym is. This is why I like akata males, majority of them stay fit all their lives. Granted they learned the habit from prison, but it’s a good lifestyle choice either way.

All this is nonsense...

Into businesses are still running...
Ibeto owns no cement plant ...he imported and repackage...so when the country became self sufficient..cement import was banned..so he had to stop... obviously..and he had so many unpaid taxes..
Besides his hotels are running fine plus his oil factory at Anambra..so government has absolutely nothing to do with ibeto..

Ibeto was creating a problem with cement import with scarce Forex...dangote solved it...

This is the same foolishness u will use to accuse him when he is done with his refinery...we waste more than 16 percent of our tot Forex to import fuel because government couldn't fix the refinery..one man wants to solve it to save and stabilize our economy rather than look at the massive good his doing for the country...ur lazy ass cook up useless points...
His monopoly over petroleum doesn't mean he set price anyhow...dangote has never used monopoly to increase price unnecessarily..he will buy crude according to international price and sell based on the standard margin...the same with cement..the price difference between dangote cement and others is most times N50 or N100..
Dangote has no monopoly in cement..there are other players like BUA and lafarge.they have been there ever since....if u hate dangote ..buy from others..the case is similar for all his businesses...

Monopoly or not...he has done what only very few can do in Africa...there is no wealthy person in the world that didn't get any support from his or her government... absolutely non...so don't castigate him.. besides he used his advantage to develop Nigeria to his capacity...
Lastly...just shut the Bleep u don't live the life of Elon musk or zuck...so u can't tell if they have time for women...
Having time for women is a choice...
Queenlovely:
We are all adults so I will be honest with you guys

An idle mind is the devil's workshop, rich men have excess time to waste, they become bored too.

Checkout real entrepreneurs like bill Gates, mark Zuckerberg, Warren buffet, etc Jeff bezos, Elon musk, they don't have time for women,

they are too focused on their business, thinking about shareholders, and new ideas, but government does the thinking for dangote

The Nigeria government dash him Monopoly on everything, so why should he bother to know that one drum of his sugar is tasteless inside garri, full packet of his salt is tasteless inside soup

They destroyed Ibeto, elepahant benue etc to make him king, he is busy chasing women globally

He is just insane...
Even if they want ranches let the land donation come from their tribe men...
Nothing consign Igbo or Yoruba with Fulani...
Ikpunekenwa:
Other tribes who come to your state to do business do you give them lands for free or build shops for free for them or is it the federal government that do it for them?
So why is it that it is your fellow citizens that will do it for you free? Was it not the other day thqt the federal government wanted to use tax payers money to build ruga for your cows that don't contribute shishi to the states. Seriously, how did you just say that thing you said up there?

Muhammadu Abdulahi stepped down a week or two ago. His tenure had elapsed last year but the minister extended it. It elapsed for a second time a week or two ago and he retired.

Hilary Kelechi Madu was appointed as the acting commandant general. We don't know whether he will be made the substantive commandant general or whether he will only serve in an acting capacity, but for now he is the head of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp.
