Your sense is Just too much..I repeat it just too much... Claudiusdeux: nlc=organised labour I guess....
That's because Nigerian governments and the Nigerian people like subsides. The right thing for Buhari to have done would have been to abolish subsidy from the word go. The market would have done its thing eventually, and prices would have gone down by now.
But because that means prices as high as 300 naira per liter, and since he and his gang promised N40 fuel....
Subsides are always tough to remove. No Nigerian government has removed subsides. All they do is increase the price of fuel to the level where they can safely pay a subsidy.
The economy is going to suffer. Because Nigerians like subsides.
And the whole price control thing is why we don't have functional refineries. No incentive to refine at home. (Unless your name is Dangote and now the BUA guy)
1.Power for the most part is in private hands.
2.Until recently, Nigeria was producing power at N53 per kwh and selling at N30 per kwh or less. Which meant that DISCOS and GENCOS weren't making enough cash to fund improvements. That's why six years after privatization there has been no improvement in power.
3.You opposed subsidy in your second point. Yet, you want government to continue paying power companies a subsidy, which is what is was doing from 2014 till recently. And it was incurring a lot of debt in the process.Loans were even been taken.
4.The road to better power supply begins with power companies being allowed to run at a profit. Running companies at a loss, while politically popular, is a recipe for more poor electric power supply.
After all, the reason why I can type this missive from my home is because Obasanjo allowed GSM companies to run at a profit...even when people were calling for price controls back then. The GSM companies made ginormous profits...which were invested back in infrastructure...and our internet.
Somewhat. You rightly criticized Buhari for increasing subsides on fuel...(after he Buhari hypocritically criticized subsidies too in the past...) and then at the same time you want government to make DISCOS sell power below how much it costs to produce, and pay them a suybsidy to cover the loss..which won't do so, and which would cause more problems.
Like most Nigerians, you don't like subsides, yet you want the government to pay a subsidy, and force companies to run at a loss. |

Look...am no sure oil every fell to 10 dollars..I don't believe that... Now oil u can't compare the amount of things we waste Forex importing today to what we imported in 19s..our population as by far risen...so what 50 dollars per barrel of oil could support in the 19s .it can't support the much import we are involved with in 2020.... We spend our forex importing all we do is import..we hate our local commodity..it even accepted that anything produced locally is not what better than foreign product..so we keep consuming to the extent we import rice and fuel even maize.... So can u put all the blaim on emefiele...the time buhari banned rice ..y'all were yelling...can u imagine us spending over 17 percent of our forex to import food and over 20 percent to import petroleum products.... Please blaim the leaders...this things are clear... emefiele isn't responding for agriculture neither is he responsible for petroleum resources... Pennywise: Through the years the price of a barrel of oil has fluctuated widely sometimes falling to as low as $10. Inspite of that the dollar remained at less than N360 and that is because govts before Buhari and stoopid Emefiele had not frittered away Nigeria's foreign reserves and borrowed enough to put you, your parents, children and your grandchildren in perpetual poverty and economic slavery.
Emefiele has been experimenting with unproven and bizarre economic principles that has led to a collapse of the Naira while Buhari sleeps.

The more the Forex the healthier the economy and stronger the currency and vice versa... Lol...sack him bring another person ..the same will still happen... Dollars was N200 when oil was above 145 dollars per barrel... Oil is 46 dollars..more than. 60 percent drop...and u want dollar to remain N200... Have u Guys forgotten that we have always gotten more than 90 percent of our forex from oil.. When u guys want CBN to be performing magic u won't reason with ur head... OPEC has asked all it members to reduce their oil production to create scarcity and stabilize prices.. We used to produce 2.2 million barrels.. That figure is down to less than 1.7 million barrels... But since u guys reason through ur anus...u still leave all this realities behind and expect dollar to be N200 in 2020... So u know better than the entire board members in CBN BIGGESThead6: TRASH. There was a time oil was above 145 dollar per barrel....past CBN governors did not use that opportunity to save Forex... FDI isn't the reason weather u believe it or not... Forget diaspora remittance...crude oil sales contribute 90 percent I repeat 90 PERCENT to our forex earnings..it has been like dat since 1980s ..go and use Wikipedia or world Bank to verify it... This means that FDI plus diaspora remittance is almost insignificant compared to what crude oil brings to Nigeria. Secondly...we spend over 15 percent of our entire Forex just to import fuel yearly... When u include the billions of dollars we used to Import wheat, rice and palm oil.. that has increased by over 25 Percent... Can u believe we even import maize..like WTF.. Look I can't be teaching u facts...all this things are on Google...check it.. We spend nearly 30 percent of our forex importing Rice, wheat, palm oil, fuel, and other petroleum products...does that make sense to u.. we have the capacity to turn this things around since 1999 but OBJ was not worried...now u see why buhari is busy rushing it we have to ban all this things immediately to remove pressure on the Forex...and find other alternative resources like gold to begin exporting... Look let me lay facts ..FDI isn't necessarily going be good news because when a white man comes to invest 10,000 by the time he makes his money back plus profit do u think he will leave it in Nigeria..he will take everything back..so don't even consider FDI..it better we invest in our country... Secondly... Do u know what those other oil exporting countries did when oil crashed... They simply released more billions to support their currency...this is exactly what Algeria did in 2014.. I hate buhari with all my heart... But as an educated person and not one of this sentimentaland gullible ordinary Nigerian..it not buhari fault naira got devalued.. Our economy is completely dependent on oil..Covid 19 and the deep oil price fall in 2014 is to be Blaimed including the past leaders who didn't save enough Forex to defend the naira incase of incasity plus the fact that they dumped agriculture... Even if Sowore or any respected individual be at that seat..they can only do little they will still be met with their faith ... The only hope for Nigeria is to ban unnecessary import like rice..and ban fuel.. Also run back to agriculture or look for an alternative commodity to depend on.. And to some certain level this government has done some mediocre things to address it by focusing on agriculture, Interest in Gold and Gas... Inshort gold and gas is the future of Nigeria not oil any more jesmond3945: as usual removing buhari from blame. Let me tell you what brought naira low; lack of Foreign direct investment. Onitsha-Owerri road is not 2 years old. Again, noone is vouching for the standard of the construction work done. PDP's administration was mired in corruption, as we all agree. But that road in question was constructed by Julius Berger, take note.
When you mentioned that Enugu-Abakaliki road is the only fully completed federal road, what does that say about APC that's in power today? At least, PDP did some work during their own time, while 6 years of APC has given us nothing.

Meanwhile, Enugu-Onitsha expressway is not being worked on. It's all propaganda. Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway is also not being worked on. It's propaganda too.

Mordecai: You might need to revisit my comment again. I am a serial traveller and can talk authoritatively about all these roads from as far back as 2007.
Onitsha-Owerri road was built during the OBJ administration, and was okay till APC came into power. I cannot count the number of times I drove through that road myself without any hitches. After the construction, the problem was the traffic jams that plague the Onitsha end of the road. Especially as Upper Iweka was not then built as it were today. Also, FERMA was always up to fix issues that come up when heavy vehicles create issues on the road. Today, FERMA is dead, and the Ihiala axis you wrote about has deteriorated into a gully. Under your APC. What has been done about it ? Nothing.
The Enugu-Abakaliki road was built during the PDP administration, but dualised by Umahi. Note that Umahi decided to dualise it.
The major trunk roads in the SE are Onitsha-Owerri road Enugu-Onitsha expressway Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway Owerri-Port Harcourt highway Enugu-Abakaliki road Abakaliki-Mbok highway Obollo-afor-9th mile
Onitsha-Owerri road was done Owerri-Port Harcourt was done. Parts of Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway was done. Abakaliki-Mbok was done Enugu-Abakaliki was done Upper Iweka-New parts was done by State. FG refunded promptly. Obollo-afor-9th mile was constantly under maintenance. Under APC, it's forgotten.
What are you even writing about? Are we even driving these same roads?

So you pay someone (US for that matter) for turbo planes, they collect money, and tell you; sorry Sir, your runway is not ok. We will chop yaa money. Chai! Thank you NAF for this wonderful revelation. |

Your simply ignorant about the happenings in Nigeria or most likely filled with half story... We are still importing fuel cuz there is no working refinery.. That agreement with Niger is to ensure the full supply of fuel until dangote comes alive..if u been actively following the need you will notice there were times some media were predicting fuel scarsity... Secondly Google is your friend... Dangote refinery is the largest single line refinery in the world and by capacity is by far the biggest in the whole of Africa... 650,000 barrels per day... That refinery surpasses our demand.. Inshort it like you don't know dangote and monopoly ..so in your mind now u thought he will build a refinery that can't meet up to all our demands and live the rest for another company to take ...lol.. Go and read what he did to cement that alone should give u an idea... Until that refinery comes online ..we still import fuel from which ever source.. Am not Buhari supporter..but by far since 2014 the global economy has not been smiling do there is little he can ..what did OBJ and ko do when the land was flowing with milk and honey?.. Blaim GEJ for not completing his east to west road... besides...that same road is being completed by buhari..some months ago Goodwill akpabio got buhari approval to fund the completion...I ask u ..why the hell should buhari be building a road to Jonathan village...so channel ur anger to GEJ too.. Nevertheless buhari has failed but be intelligent in fully analysing things.... And the part where u doubt dangote meeting our demands what a complete joke it like u haven't been to ibeju lekki to see how massive that thing is..try using Google map to view the site u will be amazed...and it like you don't know that Dangote thinks big..that refinery will monopolize the petroleum industry in Nigeria the same wey fertilizer and cement is ..peace Abdullahi2018: On your first point, why are we supplying neighbouring countries (N/B: more than one country) power if we don't generate enough? Second point, you are making excuses for APC (APC=PDP they are the same). Buhari has been there for 5 years and counting, why is the east/west road not fixed? Why are other existing road not maintained. The Refineries you think is a waste will make Nigeria to be exporting refined product to other African countries. You think Dangote refinery will meet our demand? Then why are we signing an agreement to import refined products from Niger. My friend be like me and stop making excuses for them. They are either bunch of illiterates or thieves. |

This present politicians have no opportunity at all ........those with the real opportunities where OBJ, abacha, Babangida and co..cuz that was when Niger Nigeria was flowing with milk and honey... There is an excuse for the failure of Nigeria and it simply because of the failure of the last leaders to diversify... Buhari has a share though ..bu u just got to give it to those idiot who rulled us in the military era... ironically they were very young at that time.. Reference: Oga. Governments are not elected just to exist. They are not elected like most of you think to demonstrate some tribal, sectional or religious satisfaction. Governments are elected to secure and prosper the people who place them there.
There is no excuse for failure. If people are worse off in anyway the government has failed. Trump has gone because of the way he handled the virus pandemic, race relations and many, many other things HE DID NOIT CAUSE.
So to lay up negative events as a shield for poor response, poor handling and eventually poor outcome is a subscription to future failure. Every government elected subsequently will then have an excuse to fail and democracy becomes meaningless because there will always be challenges. That is life.
As a matter of fact it is great difficulties that make for great leadership. Winston Churchill, Nelson Mandela, Abraham Lincoln, JFK, Mahatma Ghandi will never be forgotten, not for the good times but for how they handled the worst times in the history of those nations they served.
Today we and our kids love our Superman, Batman, Spiderman, James Bond, Ethan Hunt's because the human spirit appreciates those who rise to daring challenges and overcome great adversity.
Look young man. This present set of leaders have the greatest post independence opportunity to write their names for all eternity in the annals of true Nigerian heroes because of the adversity they face. DONOT GIVE THEM THE REASON TO SQUANDER IT by cultivating excuses or only infamy will be left.
That is a sure word of legacy. |
