Paragontek:
Which message are you referring to?
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Tella26: 5:18pm On Oct 02, 2020
Please when did u receive this message? Cos I received the same message On Wednesday. I have sent you an email. Please kindly respond to it.
oracle009:
Good morning my people.

My school insisted on not mailing the i-20 to me, as the DSO insisted she had spoken with Homeland Security and the DHS has communicated the Nigerian embassy to accept emailed i-20.

She now requested that I mail the embassy and send their response to her. I mailed them on Wednesday and they replied this morning. Please check the response below:

What can I do now?

NB: There is emergency Lagos appointment dates, even if you don't have any appointment at all. I was mailed on that also.

So which term are you considering deferment spring or fall 2021
Spring. But the issue now is that I recieved an email from the graduate school that some part of the scholarship will be affected..
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Tella26: 3:07pm On May 20, 2020
I already asked the department and they let me know it wont affect the admission and funding..Alright thanks guys..I think deferring will be a better option.
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Tella26: 1:51pm On May 20, 2020
Hmmm Thanks guys. I think I will have to contact my department If the funding will be affected or not. If not I will make enquires to defer to spring. If yes then online option will be a better way.

Hi guys....If you got Admission to TTU and intend choosing the school. check this updated info from their website: https://www.depts.ttu.edu/gradschool/admissions/covid19/index.php . I also want to ask great people here, please what will you advise? Is it either to choose Online classes for fall semester or defer my admission. Although, they said that once I defer admission, I will have to go through the process of paying application fees then it goes thru normal application process. While that of Online classes will just be that I wont be eligible for OPT ( To be eligible for OPT u must complete a full session ie Fall and Spring in person) . I think OPT should not be a big deal naa? my fear is also getting Visa even if I have started Online classes. Please kindly share your experience. Thanks.

My department is EE so every department has their admin coordinator I guess. And I dont know if that is your department.

Lightp:
Thanks. Please is there a way you can share the email address of the Admin unit you emailed, i have been emailing my department right from the application period but no response from them.
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Tella26: 11:53pm On Mar 23, 2020
On my own case, I got admission without any indication of funding on my admission letter. So I had to send email to Academic Administrative Coordinator who actually asked me to apply that I may qualify for Scholarship. Then she emailed and confirmed to me that my admission status shows scholarship. And I emailed admission team also, so they confirm to me as well and, tell me my deficit which will be on my I20. They also said Scholarships are not indicated even on Raiderlink ( Students' portal) until the student register for courses. So, Yes, you might have admission with scholarship in which it is only admission that you will receive an email but not funding.

Lightp:
For those that got into Texas Tech, where you notified of your GA or scholarship immediately on your admission letter or did you have to wait for that. Thanks
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Tella26: 8:58pm On Mar 09, 2020
Ok thanks bro I really appreciate

fairheart:
With that offer, you will only be required to pay what Texas residents are paying in tuition. You will not pay as international student, but as Texas resident. So, to know your tuition per semester, go to the tuition and cost section on the school website. Whatever you see there as in-state tuition is what you pay every semester. Also, this will be stated on your i-20. Congrats!
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Tella26: 8:05pm On Mar 09, 2020
Alright Thanks

brashear:
If international students tuition is 12k and Texas residents tuition is 4k, you have been asked to pay 4k as tuition and fees

Hi guys, Please TTU gave me admission with $1000 Scholarship and the scholarship also *grants me in state tuition costs*. Please what does the statement GRANTS YOU IN STATE TUITION COST MEANS? Does it mean I will pay In state tuition fees or They will deduct in state tuition costs from the out of state tuition fees then I pay the remaining? Please kindly help out. Thanks

The best time is the time you are sure you really want to have the exam and you dont have any distraction. Apart from that, many people think between April to July is the best because you will be able to send in your application on time as soon as possible for scholarship consideration and you will have enough time to retake the exam in case you are not satisfied with your score.

Pls, when is the best time in the year to write the Gre?

WhatsApp group defeats the purpose of this thread... CC - Justwise please help us call the mods here to flush this perdition out
I agree with you bro. WhatsApp invitation url is not meant to be shared here; as they both serve the same purpose. However, I will suggest that Nairaland should improve on their platform just like every other platforms are improving. I cannot share nairaland link on whatsapp and I will have someone asking me to stop sharing it on whatsapp...this shows level of improvement....infact, people tend to leave Whatsapp for Telegram, just because it does not serve them some purpose. So people move naturally....Anyways this can be regarded as a feedback from a nairalander who loves this platform and looking to seeing more improvement in order to benefit Nigerians more.... cheesy

So I was thinking, for those of us having our exams soon (mine is next month) , I'll be creating a whatsapp group where we can all share ideas and relate possible tough questions which I'm sure it'll help us prepare better, I had a friend who testified to the goodness of such idea. If you're in kindly reply this message with your contact and I'll add you up asap.

I wrote my GRE Today
I prepared for roughly 3 months basically followed @user234’s advices, I felt extremely confident when I got up this morning.
Arrived an hour and a half before the test started. Got the quant section first, let's just say, it was deadlier than I thought
QUANTITATIVE - 168
VERBAL - 153
TOTAL - 321
I was hoping for 3 verbal sections however I was given 3 quants much to my dismay, the first section was pretty basic and I was quite confident of my performance in that section, however the subsequent two were quite challenging as I ran into time trouble in both sections, especially the final section.
On the other hand, the verbal section was another ball game entirely. The first section was really crazy. Although I understood the sentences and could identify simple words that could be used to fill in the blanks, the options provided were unfamiliar. The second section was relatively easier as compared to the first though
Both sections were a lot more difficult than I expected. At the end of the test I felt I didn’t do too well in the verbal but I was hoping for the best. After seeing my verbal score, I was quite disappointed. The examiner noticed as I couldn’t hide my expression. I am glad I got above 320 and I hope to never write GRE ever again as preparation and writing were extremely stressful and time consuming.

SCHOOLS
UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CARLIFORNIA -MSC
UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS - MSC
UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA - MSC
MCGILL UNIVERSITY – MSC
At the test centre, there was a very attractive girl there, we made eye contact a couple times, I really wanted to talk to her but those officials were quite strict at Dragnet and didn’t allow communication inside that lobby. I was really looking forward to talking to her so I waited for a while after I was done but it seemed like she wasn’t gonna (I really hope I didn’t write “gonna” inside my essay) be done anytime soon and considering how exhausted I felt, I had to leave. If you’re on this thread, don’t hesitate to send a message.
Congrats...Please can you be specific on those Gre materials that actually helped you? Or All the materials you used for preparation. Thanks

Hello, everyone! I guess this is my first post on this thread since 2017!

I took my first GRE in September 2017 in Port Harcourt.
Total: 302. Quantitative: 149 Analytical Writing: 4.0

My second GRE was on August 9, 2019.
Total: 311. Quantitative: 159 Analytical Writing: 4.5.

The major reasons why I improved my quantitative score by 10 points are because I used better materials to prepare and I was more serious with my second exam. I spent about 90% of my 3 months study period on quant because I knew that I can score at least 150 in verbal and 4 in Analytical writing without serious preparation. For quant preparation, I opened a Word file where I saved important formulas and techniques for further revision. This was important because I had key concepts under my belt during the exam. I didn't get my target score of 160 in the quantitative section but that's fine.

An important lesson I learned from my exams is that mastering good materials is an easy way to improve your score. Future test takers should prioritize Manhattan, Magoosh, ETS guide, ETS math review, ETS powerprep plus, and Princeton Review. Also, taking practice tests are helpful. I took about 12 full-length practice test before my exam and my average scores in these tests are quite close to my main score. You should also have a robust template for the essays, you don't want to spend 2 minutes thinking about how to start your essay.

Complacency and not using the right materials were my greatest undoings when I took my first exam. Fresh out of college with a top GPA, I took the powerprep exam and got 156 in the quantitative section without any preparation. I thought I could do well in GRE without serious preparation. My scores proved me wrong. Actually, I used 7 months to prepare but I wasn't serious, didn't master important techniques, and did no practice test.

All in all, GRE doesn't care about your First Class. You have to respect the exam because it is not easy. Try to calm yourself down on the exam day by reminding yourself how well you have prepared and how competitive the other parts of your application are. If you let the GRE psych you out; you've already started failing!

Good luck to those planning to take the exam!
Congrats bro. Please do you have Manhattan premium accounts access? Please who can help with this? Even if it will involve money. Thanks

I'll advice you focus more on your GRE for now. Put all your energy into it, it matters a lot!! You finished from OAU, so did I, so in that case you might not even end up using your TOEFL scores. because TOEFL is waived for OAU by most schools in US. So pleaseee focus on your GRE if you can score 310 and above na funding go dey chase you grin
All the best
Hmmmm OK. Thanks for this. I know I will share good testimony one day on this tread coming fall 2020.

folmus:
Check your prospective schools for minimum TOEFL requirement: most universities require 79 minimum for graduate studies. TOEFL is not used to give any funding but to measure your proficiency requirement. So if you meet the minimum, don't waste money writing another.

The most important is your GRE score. Aim for a very high score.

Good luck!
ooh Thanks

Hi guys,
I am new in this place and I want you to please help in making suggestions for good schools for fall 2020.
Undergraduate: Obafemi Awolowo University (O
OAU) . Electronic/Electrical Engineering. GPA (4.63/5.00) Toefl (80) GRE (Not yet taking).

Proposed US School:
University of Houston, Texas Tech University and University of Florida.
Program: MSc Electronic/Electrical Engineering. (Possibly Computer Science).

based on the Toefl score, I saw 79 or 80 as their minimum scores. Though I know it also depend on their acceptance rate. And I am thinking of using that score like that please is this a good choice Including Universities? Thanks

Please guys, When is the interview slated to be? I heard starting from Jan 7th. This is not going to make sense because I was thinking Around March. Because most schools applications are still online and most of them have yet to be given offer and FSB requires u must have been given offer letter before you come for interview.
