This is an embarrassing attempt to deflect blame and vilify Natasha Akpoti for doing nothing more than holding a lawful event. The writer tries to hide the government’s incompetence behind the smokescreen of “security,” but banning peaceful gatherings is not leadership; it’s cowardice. The lazy comparison to other states only proves the writer’s desperation to justify a weak government that can’t handle peaceful dissent.

The call for Akpoti’s arrest for hosting a peaceful gathering is outrageously tyrannical. Instead of trying to intimidate opposition, the government should focus on doing its job—keeping citizens safe.

When Yahya Bello was wanted by the Law and was a fugitive, the governor was giving him protection all over the place,even in the government house. The same person is now calling for arrest of a senator who was voted by her constituency from seeing and addressing her constituency.

It has become clear the reason for her attacks on Akpabio.

There were women in the senate. Some second term senators. This one has not even spent two years and is already showing why she should not be there.

The senate is not anyone's private enterprise. From additional information, Apkabio was guided by the rules.

(1) As senate president, it is his responsibility to allocate seats to every senator.

(2) He can change any senator's seat due to exigencies like defections or court-returned senators or by-elections.

(3) In the past in this senate, the seats of troublesome senators were changed and they didn't complain. In Saraki's senate, they circulated videos that Apkabio complained over seat change. They didn't share the part of the video where the same Akpabio realized.

(4) What had become clear is that some senators are gleefully unaware of standing rules. Their ambition and greed guide their conduct. We'd soon commission a story on how senators make money from chairmanship and membership of senate committees and contracts. Note that Akpabio had told an investigative committee that representatives were the ones benefitting from contracts when he was NDDC minister. So the fact that most NDDC projects are abandoned can be traced to our greedy politicians.

(5) With the way this woman had behaved, how is she better than Ali Ndume who went to town to talk about tax bills he never read?

The truth is that this woman hasn’t represented womenfolk credibly. Too much drama! Women like her block opportunities for other women with their conduct.

Men don’t like drama, if your wife gives too much drama we find a side chick, if a female colleague gives too much drama we avoid her and become wary of employing or giving opportunities to other women. I wont be surprised if some senators have gone behind the scenes lobbying to not be included in the same committees with her or to have her not included in their committees. That’s what we do as men, we avoid dramatic women and the best way to avoid them is to ensure they are not in your immediate space and any interaction with them is at arms length.!

*Exposing The Inconsistencies In Binance Bribery Claims*

A recent claim by Mr. Tigran Gambaryan, the head of Financial Crime Compliance for Binance that three members of the House of Representatives demanded a humongous sum of $150,000,000 bribe to ‘make his case go away’ while he was in detention in Nigeria has continued to generate mixed reactions from many Nigerians.

While these claims were not backed with persuasive evidence to command the force it deserve, the inconsistency in the reports of the bribery allegation by Binance team seem to unconsciously put the final nail on the coffin of its authenticity.

For instance, In a viral report published by New York Times on May 7, 2024, (https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/07/technology/binance-nigeria-tigran-gambaryan.html) the Chief Executive Officer of Binance, Mr. Richard Teng, was quoted to have written, “On Jan. 8, Mr. Gambaryan and a group of Binance employees met with those lawmakers. Soon the meeting turned contentious: The lawmakers read aloud a list of accusations against Binance, including tax violations. They also threatened to pursue an arrest warrant for Mr. Teng, the blog post said.

As the Binance employees left the meeting, Mr. Teng wrote, they were approached by “unknown persons” who suggested that they make a payment to settle the allegations. Later, a local lawyer representing Binance spoke with someone purporting to be an agent of the House committee, Mr. Teng wrote.
The purported agent demanded “a significant payment in cryptocurrency to be paid in secret within 48 hours to make these issues go away,” Mr. Teng wrote. The amount was roughly $150 million, four people familiar with the matter said.

Mr. Teng in his account reported that it was after the session with the House of Reps Committee that ‘unknown persons’ met with Binance executives to demand $150million bribe.

), Tigran Gambaryan, wrote, “At the House meeting, there were three members present. Two of them were Peter Akpanke and Philip Agbese, both working under the leadership of Ginger Obinna Onwusibe. There was a third House member, but I don’t recall his name. They set up fake cameras and media to make the meeting appear official, but the cameras weren’t even plugged in. As you may already know, this ended with them asking for a $150 million bribe, paid in cryptocurrency into their personal wallets. A Mickey Mouse operation at its best”.

The later account by Tigran differed significantly from the earlier report by the CEO of Binance that the $150million bribe was demanded at the session in the House of Representatives by members of the anti corruption committee. I do not know how members of the House of Representatives’ anti-corruption committee, who sat in a session with the Binance team, in discharge of their constitutional oversight functions, can possibly pass as ‘unknown persons’. This obvious and inexcusable inconsistency in their accounts have eroded the credibility of the claim and casted a thick veil of doubt on the malicious bribery allegation.

It is also unacceptable that Binance in an effort to get away with committing financial crimes in Nigeria would employ the dangerous tactics of attempting to blackmail officials who are determined to hold them accountable for their crimes of economic sabotage against Nigeria.

Binance is notorious in aiding and abetting financial improprieties all over the world, and have been banned and sanctioned in a number of countries.

In fact, In April 2024, the founder of Binance, Changpeng Zhao, bagged a four months sentence in prison in the US for allowing criminals to launder money on his platform.

Earlier in May 2023, Binance was forced to pay the sum of $4.3 billion to the U.S. government on the charges that the cryptocurrency exchange giants allowed criminal activity to flourish on its platform.

It is also ironical that while Mr. Tigran was calling on America to rescue him from being held accountable for breaching Nigeria’s financial regulations, the founder and CEO of Binance ,was at same time, languishing in an American Prison for similar criminal breach.

No country is more sovereign than the other, and no amount of blackmail and politically motivated propaganda will make us surrender our sovereignty as a nation, or allow international criminals to sabotage Nigeria’s economy and breach our financial regulations.
