Obasanjo’s biographer reportedly killed by hoodlums

The former president, Olusegun Obasanjo’s biographer, Adinoyi Ojo Onukaba has lost his life when returning from the former president’s 80th birthday ceremony.

Sahara Reporters said, Onukaba who was a former All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Kogi state was waylaid by hoodlums forcing his car to somersault several times.

The terrible incident happened on Sunday, March 5, 2017 upon returning from Obasanjo’s birthday. It was also reported that his family members have been informed.

Onukaba’s remains has been taken to the Akure State Specialist Hospital.

According a source: “He was trying to escape from some armed robbers on the Akure express-road when his vehicle ran into a wide ditch, somersaulting and he died instantly.”

In his lifetime, he was the last Managing Director of Daily Times of Nigeria under President Olusegun Obasanjo and was one of the 21 contestants of the Kogi State governorship election.

The Punch also reported that, Sen. Bafemi Ojudu said he was allegedly murdered in an encounter with armed robbers.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has issued a warning to former president Goodluck Jonathan over the abduction of the Chibok school girls.

A statement was released on Monday, March 6, 2017 by the minister of information, culture and tourism, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, says Jonathan must stop pointing finger on the issue of Chibok girls.

Lai Mohammed said because the Chibok girls were kidnapped during Jonathan's administration, so pointing fingers is pointless now and serves as a distraction for the current administration.

This warning comes after a report by a British newspaper which claimed that the British armed forces' proposed to help in the rescue mission of the girls but the bid was snubbed by then administration.

He also claimed that the past administration used the issue to play politics and permitting Boko Haram issue to escalate before the 2015 election.

The Minister said: ''While former President Jonathan reserves the right to defend his administration, he should not engage in finger-pointing by saying, in a statement, that 'some people who have obviously been playing politics with the issue of the Chibok girls will stop at nothing to further their interest."

''After the girls were kidnapped and the Jonathan's administration did nothing for all of 15 days or make any determined efforts to rescue them thereafter, our party, the then opposition APC, told the nation several times that the whole Boko Haram crisis was allowed to escalate by the PDP-controlled federal government so they can use it as a political tool ahead of the 2015 elections.

''In a statement on 8 Sept. 2014, we said: 'President Jonathan-PDP’s political manipulation of the Boko Haram has to be understood as part of its pooker-like calculus for clinging on to political power ahead of the 2015 elections.”

''Two-and-a-half years after that statement, we have been vindicated by the report that claimed President Jonathan rebuffed an attempt by the British government to help rescue the girls.

"We hope the former president will now refrain from stoking further controversy over the lingering abduction issue and allow the government of the day to focus on its ongoing negotiations to secure the release of the Chibok girls.”

Prophet Joshua Iginla has released yet another prophecy pertaining President Muhammadu Buhari's health, urging him to listen to his medical doctors.

The prophet urged the president to be careful and not to people to play politics with his life. Recall that the president is currently on extended medical vacation in the UK.

According to Daily Post, the Prophet Iginla said while in South Africa, he saw a vision concerning the President Buhari and admonished his members to pray for him.

He stated: “I have a prophetic message for the president which God gave me while in South Africa. No president becomes a president without the hand of God, either by permissive or perfect will. When GOD puts anyone there, it’s for a purpose.

“I have a message for him. The Lord says he should take care of his health. He should not allow people around him to play politics with his health.

“In my vision, I saw some people preparing boots with army uniform. They said he should take his bag and start travelling. I saw some white doctors cautioning him not to wear the boot that he should hold on till they are through with his treatment.

“It’s a prophetic advice,’treat yourself and listen to the medical advice.’ Don’t let them hurry you beause what’s the essence of coming home in haste and rushing back in a hurry. It’s because of the hurrying back again that God sent me to you.

"God has brought you this far. The seat is there for you and waiting for you. It’s only the living that can rule Nigeria and not the dead. Wait until there is a medical clearance.

“Do not allow politicians to use your life to play politics. Its only the living that can rule Nigeria. I saw a vision where people hurried him to wear the boot and come home only for him to be rushed back.

“The reason is because there was an unfinished business medically. Let your persecutors persecute you and say whatever they wanted to say but make sure you give your health attention. It’s only the living that rules. The throne is yours and nobody can occupy it. That’s why you must stay alive.”

Recall that Prophet Iginla in his 2017 prophecy, had said he saw the president rushing out of the country for medical reasons

The prophecy read thus: “His Excellency, Mr. President should pray for his health, I see him traveling out for an unscheduled health checkup. But this time, it will be more serious. He should pray for his health, God will keep him.”

The deputy Senate President of Nigeria, Ike Ekweremadu, has urged federal government to increase the national minimum wage from N18,000 to N50,000.

He made this call while delivering the 4th National Public Service Lecture of the University of Ibadan Alumni Association.

He said: “When a man who earns N18,000, cannot buy a bag of rice, how then can such a person take care of his family?

"Does it make sense to him if you tell him not to find alternative means of catering to the needs of his family?

“Is it not also possible to abolish the Security Vote and replace it with Contingency Vote so that it can be appropriated and accounted for."

He also suggested decentralisation of the fight against corruption if the country really mean to succeed over corruption.

He admonished the 36 states government to also take part in fighting corruption by setting up their own anti-corruption agencies, in order to complement the efforts of the central anti-corruption agencies in the war against corruption.

“Similarly, a Code of Conduct Bureau should be established in the states with a Code of Conduct Tribunal to handle cases of civil servants and local government councils," he added.

A 25-year old, female preacher, Vicentia Tadagbe Tchranvoukinni, in Benin Republic, West Africa, has announced that her mission on earth is to defeat the devil because she is God.

Vicentia claimed she came down from heaven with the divine mission of fighting devil and his cohorts in the world. She also said that she is Perfect and God’s Holy Spirit.

According to an official from ministry of health, on Tuesday, 5 people were reported to have suffocated to death in her church after ordering the followers to lock themselves inside rooms with its windows and doors closed while burning incense.

The sect which had thousands of followers is said to be called “Very Holy Church of Jesus Christ of Bename”. Followers were asked to spend Saturday in a sealed room praying for the holy spirit.

According to AFP, the health official who prefer anonymity said, “These patients were all poisoned with carbon monoxide in the Porto Novo and Adjarra areas."

“There are currently five deaths and nine people in intensive care."

"The followers died “after inhaling the incense while they prayed."

“Some may have fallen on the embers placed in the rooms where they locked themselves for the prayer.”

The church was founded by Vicentia Tadagbe Tchranvoukinni, in 2009. She's often called 'Perfect' by her followers, says she is 'God the Holy Spirit.'

Arsene Wenger of Arsenal FC has ruled himself out as a potential replacement for Luis Enrique at Barcelona.

Recall that on Wednesday night, at the post-match news conference, following their 6-1 win at home against Sporting Gijon, Luis Enrique announced his departure as Barcelona coach, citing the “need to rest”.

The xenophobic attacks seems to be reaching another level as a group of Niger Delta militants threatens to start blowing up some major South African investments within Nigeria which includes MTN, Multichoice (DSTV), Shoprite and about 16 other companies if the Federal Government refuses to shut them down within one month.

The coalition which consist of three groups released statement yesterday. The statement reads:

“Arising from the joint meeting of the Niger Delta Watchdogs, Niger Delta Volunteers and Niger Delta Strike Force held today (Wednesday) in Port Harcourt, we condemn the recent attack on Nigerians in South Africa.

“We want to state that the recent attack (on Nigerians in South Africa) will mark the end of this nonsense because we will not fold our arms and allow this to continue.

“We, therefore, call on the Nigerian Government to immediately close down all the businesses owned by South Africans in Nigeria.

“Failure to close down these companies within one month, we shall mobilise in full force and commence massive attack on the above mentioned South African-owned investments in Nigeria.

“We shall also make sure that all MTN masts and offices are brought down to naught.

“We shall strike any property and persons from South Africa within our reach; we will bring down Multichoice (DSTV), Shoprite and others.

“We will not fold our arms and watch you (South Africans) slaughter our people like chickens for no just cause.

Nnamdi Kanu who is the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has described Nigeria as a country of savages and animals.

He issued this statement on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 following the dismissal of six charges out of eleven charges filed against him by the Federal Government.
Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja, Yesterday threw out six charges filed against him and three others by the Federal Government.

Justice Nyako held that the six charges does not have enough proof of evidence by prosecution adduced against the defendants. Though, the court sustained five other charges filed against the IPOB leader and three other pro-Biafra agitators who are Benjamin Madubugwu, David Nwawuisi and Chidiebere Onwudiwe

Speaking to the Newsmen and his supporters after the court process, Kanu, who dressed in a Jewish apparel, said that Nigeria is a country that does not obey the law.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has disclosed that the number of internet users on Nigeria’s telecommunications networks dropped to 91, 274,446 in January 2017.

This was a disclosure made in its Monthly Internet Subscribers Data for January 2017. Internet surfers dropped to 91,274,446 in January from 91,880.032 users recorded for the month of December 2016, showing a drop of 605,586.

According to the report, GSM service providers lost 605,586 internet customers. For Etisalat, the data recorded that 13,564.284 customers surfed the internet in January revealing a decline of 188.656 users as against the 13,752.940 users that was recorded in December 2016.

MTN Nigeria which had 31,015.45 subscribers browsing the internet on its system in January, also recorded a decline of 737, 964 internet subscribers in January after reporting 31,753.369 in December 2016.

However, Both Airtel Nigeria and Globacom recorded upturn of internet users on their networks. Airtel had 19,618.485 internet users in January, an increase of 254,94 customers over the 19,363.545 users recorded in December while Globacom had 27,076,272 internet users in January, also adding 66,094 users to the 27,010.178 users recorded in December 2016.

Recall that Blackberry signed agreements with a Chinese company TCL for design and distribution of Blackberry Branded smartphones globally. It also signed with some other companies to do same but for only some specific locations.



PT BB Merah Putih was one of the companies that signed the agreement few months ago and would be permitted to release BlackBerry branded smartphones for Indonesian.

One of the first devices from the result of these agreements that could be unveiled in the country is a mid-range smartphone, which is rumoured to be under the model number BBC100-1.

Leaked images of the phone have been recently reported by Crackberry, along with a few other specifications, such as device coming with dual-SIM support and a 3,000 mAh battery.

Pastor Mensah Otabil, the founder of the International Central Gospel Church has claimed that "fufu" is slowly killing Africans.

Fufu, is an African food prepared from cooked cassava alone or cassava and plantain, yam and or cocoyam, is one of the many favourite delicacies across few Africa countries.

However, Pastor Mensah who was speaking at the National Convocation of the 2017 Springboard Roadshow on the need for a change in the attitudes of Africans, said that the process involved in the making of fufu is not hygienic and too stressful.

"Any food that if you have to eat you'll have to punish yourself like this, what's the sense in it? And the annoying thing is when you're pounding, the sweat will be going in and will be mixed, and even in the mortar, there are all kinds of bacteria in the corners, this is an ecosystem for bacteria, 5 years and we are still pounding and people will say, that's what we like."

"It's killing us; because you know Africans we don't know what kills us, the thing is killing us but you say it's a witch, because we never identify objectively the cause of the problem.....Come to think of it, this fufu in this mortar is not sanitized , what impact does it have on our lives? A Korean media said that the Galaxy S8 will be globally launched on April 21, 2017.

Samsung Electronics originally planned to launch Galaxy S8 worldwide on the 21st of April and in Korea, a week earlier. Its initial plan was to commence pre-sales on the 6th of April and launch
Galaxy S8 in South Korea on the 14th of April. Samsung is yet to make decision on pre-sale date though the flagship release date has already been fixed for April 21

However, due to the size of supplies and for stable supplies to carriers, it decided to alter its plan by having Galaxy S8 launched internationally and domestically on the same day.

“Release date of Galaxy S8 in South Korea has changed from the 14th of April to the 21st of April due to reasons such as size of supplies and others.” said a high-profile official for a carrier.

Three Korean network providers are said to have been in discussions with Samsung regarding the
pre-order date of the Galaxy S8, but Samsung is alleged to be playing waiting games in order to monitor the feedback from LG G6 market.

LG G6 will go official on February 26 but won't be market for buying until March 10. Nonetheless, customers will be allowed to pre-order the LG flagship between March 2 and March 9.

Since LG G6 will go live almost a month before Galaxy S8, a rep for a carrier was quoted saying, “dynamics of markets will heighten due to competitions” between these two companies.

Most Skype users have always complaining about its Android version, it’s not too good. It's often somewhat slow, very terrible call quality and occasionally crash.

Recall in December, Microsoft released what it called Skype Mingo in beta version, it was a new lightweight Skype client meant for almost same purpose as the main app. Now the same Skype Mingo is out of beta, and named Skype Lite.

Skype Lite is well armed to handle poor network conditions and opens faster than the normal app. The app can receive and send both SMS and Skype messages, and it can also be used as default SMS app which has the ability to filter promotional messages to deliver a clutter-free inbox and also allow use of emojis and bots. The sidebar includes a chart displaying data usage.

According to Eugene Ho, Director, Product Management, Skype: “Although, 4G penetration has increased in India, network speeds still drop to 2G and 3G levels often. Skype Lite will be beneficial for users in areas with low data connectivity.”

High-end smartphone users can also install Skype Lite and enjoy it. The app automatically switches to HD calling when the device connects to high-speed WiFi networks. It also possesses a feature that compresses pictures to aid reduction in data usage. The compression feature also reduce call quality based on the data speeds available.

Skype Lite can also replace the default dialler aside that of messaging app function on your phone. It can fetch contacts from your phonebook.

Skype Lite is meant for only Indian languages, including Bengali, Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil and Urdu. Microsoft has no plan to release Skype Lite in other regions.

The European Union has reacted to the continued incarceration of the leader for Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu and other Biafra agitators and also said it is monitoring his trial.

This was enclosed in a letter signed by vice president of the European Commission, Federica Mogherini, to Members of the European Parliament who were signatories to a letter to Kanu sent in December 2016, accusing Nigerian Government of human rights abuse.

Julie Ward, who is a member of the EU and also a supporter of Biafra, has strongly condemned the detention of Nnamdi Kanu.

She wrote: “I fully share your concern on the violence that has erupted in relation to the Biafra movement. Individuals should be allowed to protest and express themselves freely as long as they exercise this right in a peaceful manner. Their prosecution, if founded on facts, should be carried out in full compliance of the rule of law, their human rights and judicial due process.”

The European Commission vice president, Federica Mogherini said Nigeria is expected to fulfil human rights commitments with the European Development Fund, as 166 million euros was allocated to support the “fairness, transparency and accessibility of the justice sector governance reform and the fight against corruption.”

The name for next Android version has been indirectly confirmed by Google executive.

But come to think of it, Android Nougat was just officially launched few days ago, in fact was first announced few days before Google I/O in March 2016. Now, Google I/O for 2017 is almost at our doorsteps, which means we should be expecting next developer preview of the new Android version.

Of course new features would be on their way to our phones if they are among those listed for the new update, but the most exciting thing is the name. Obviously, the next alphabet is O which would have thrown a alot Android fans into game of chess.
However, it's like Google does not want people to develop headache by releasing the name of the next Android name which is 'Android Oreo'.

A GIF tweeted of Oreo cake by a Google executive, Hiroshi Lockheimer, SVP of Android, Chrome OS and Play, appears to have given us a hint of what the next Android version might be called. A name after the famous cookies, Oreo.

All these suspense will end by the beginning of March if Google wish maintain its regular schedule.

Recall that Lockheimer has leaked some names that were eventually not officially used for some reasons. This is saying, we should not conclude that Oreo is the name.

The National Association of Telecommunications Subscribers (NATCOMS) has appealed to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to please abolish its plan on upward review of the interconnection rates for voice services.

The NATCOM’s President, Chief Deolu Ogunbanjo, on Saturday, spoke with the press in Lagos that with the current economic situation of the country, the review of the interconnection rates was not necessary.

The current rate took effect from April 1, 2013, that has the established/bigger operators terminating calls on new entrants/smaller operators’ networks at N6.40, while N4.90 for the smaller operators do same on major operators’ networks.

Ogunbajo said, "I don’t think this is the right time to do any upward review. Government and its agencies should be sensitive to the plight of the people.

“’Government should understand that we are in recession and it is affecting every pocket; so, it is not a right time of increasing telecommunications tariffs."

He said that rather than upward review, the regulatory body should be thinking of a downward review. He also said that, voice tariff, data tariff and other services offered by the sector should be review downwards.

“NCC is not in the habit of reviewing downward; however, downward review will be a welcome development in view of the present economic situation,” Ogunbajo stated.

He said that the telecommunications sector should look at dropping the price cap from N50 per minute to N20 per minute, since the cap had been in existence since 2001.

Recall on Friday, February 17, Tellforceblog reported that the NCC is determined to review the interconnection rates - Prof. Umar Danbatta who is the Executive Vice-Chairman of NCC, said on Wednesday in Abuja that NCC was set to review the interconnection rate for voice services which has been fixed since April 1, 2013 and this is coming due to the current market realities.

Danbatta said, “The sector has witnessed changes in available technologies (2G, 2.5G, 3G and 4G) and other network elements, including global financial markets, which have an impact over inputs such as cost of capital.

“The scale of changes will inevitably affect the unit cost of providing services, including interconnection, and may lead to differences between regulated interconnection rates and underlying costs.

“This, in turn, may result in differences between on-net and off- net retail tariffs.

“It is very important we ensure that interconnection services are not only fairly-priced and non-discriminative, but should reflect the cost of providing such services in the market.

“It is in this regard that the commission has decided to review the rates set in its 2013 determination, in the light of current market realities."
