When the government has blatantly refused to deal with the issue of rampaging killer Herdsmen this is what happens. Civilians take up arms to defend their territory, women and children.
Something as simple as condemning the attacks will reduce the impetus for further attacks. States with occurrences of attacks should ban these killers in totality and invest in ranches.
It is only when there are retaliatory attacks on the herdsmen you see these soldiers ordered into action. Don't be surprised if the the soldiers raze the village because of this. |
Business › Re: CBN To Sell Dollars To Pilgrims For 197 by tempest02: 8:37am On Aug 05, 2016 |
bashorunbazok: Many people are blinded with hatred. Did he not order thesame for Christians going on pilgrimage recently?
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved N160 to $1 exchange rate for the Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission’s (NCPC) operations.
The commission’s Executive Secretary, John Keneddy-Opara, told State House correspondents after briefing Buhari on the commission’s activities at the State House, Abuja.
He said: “As you are aware, he has approved $1 to N160 for the conventional exchange rate for this pilgrimage operation and he also agreed that he will continue to encourage us, particularly as we drive to ensure self-sustenance, to make sure that the pilgrims are able to pay for the pilgrimages by removing government sponsorship.
“This is a journey and we are sure that we are going to succeed. So, he was very happy with the entire process. We are praying that God will help us to be a source of strength to Mr.
President, so that the Federal Government and states will spend the necessary resources on other things while the pilgrimage is self-funding as time goes on.
“We are already running four pilgrimages in one year. The first is the Easter pilgrimage, which has passed, the Youth Pilgrimage which we termed operation catch them young, the family pilgrimage and the overall pilgrimage. For those going to Israel for the 11 days trip, it is N379,840 and for the youth pilgrimage, it is going to cost N357,000.”
Nigerians on pilgrimage, he noted, can now undergo skill acquisition programme organised by the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission and Israel’s Ministry of Agriculture, towards training them in the area of agriculture.
He added: “We are introducing the pilgrimage pilot lottery scheme that will enable people who are lucky to be able to go on this trip without much dependence on the state and the Federal Government.”
He said he was in the State House to brief the President on the activities of the commission.
“I came to brief the President on the activities of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission. Earlier, my colleague, the Chairman of Hajj Commission had come to brief him.
“I had to tell him where we are and how we started the commission and where we are today and our prayers. I want to say that the President was very happy with the commission and he said the commission has done very well.” http://www.thenationonlineng.net/new/buhari-okays-n160-to-1-for-christian-pilgrims/ For Muslims, for Christians, it is wrong at this time when we are in serious economic problems. I have friends on scholarships abroad who are stranded as the payment hasn't come as agreed. This is a very wrong move. What economic benefit had sponsoring pilgrimage for Muslims and Christians done for our economy? If the free oil money want wasn't there, would it be the same? |

mrkayusfit: Even though i condemn the killing of innocent people, i think the Igbo's need to be law abiding and respect their host for peace to thrive. Not everyone will be peaceful and accommodating like the yoruba's who ignored several provocations from the Igbo's despite calling Lagos a no man's land, calling yoruba's tenants in lagos, and calling Oba of lagos names for stating his opinion concerning governorship elections. Even though we are one Nigeria, i think the Igbo's should stop their dominating attitude and let peace reign when they are away in the SW or North Hosts should not also respect guests because they are guests? What is the meaning of dominating attitude? There are law in this countries, if no law is broken while showing their "dominating attitude" then no crime has been committed. You started out well, but you let bigotry take over you. Killing and destroying property is wrong. I will also slam the Igbos if it is recorded that these acts are retaliatory to CRIMES committed by them. |

Bolustic: Why are these Ugu people from Indonesia this local now?
Haba, we see rice from Kebbi, Niger, Thailand and other rice producing countries without the pictures of their politicians.
When Anambra start printing Bible, Hymn books and other textbooks, I'm sure wo would see another Ankara picture again.
Why glorify individual over institutions? Do you see politicians in other countries cut ribbons and commission roads and trains? It is wrong to do these, but if you condemn one and leave the other, what does that say of you? It is a right step in the right direction. Watch as price of imported rice will start dropping due to this. It is commendable. |

Politics › Re: FG Kick-starts Resuscitation Of Ajaokuta Steel Company by tempest02: 1:06pm On Aug 02, 2016 |
This is good news....This is the type of news we want to hear. Steel is the backbone of industrialization of any economy and as such, we need to manufacture our steel so as to enable other sectors spring up.
Every product we use can be traced to steel at one point or another. Many countries were able build up their steel industries hundreds of years ago, and we still find it hard to do ours. With all the experience and literature in place.
I think the money successive governments have wasted in trying to resuscitate the Ajakouta steel is much. And there have been no results. Should we first think of building a new steel company with the latest technology at a different location before trying to revive this? This should not be another venture to drain money.
My take. |

In as much as there are criminal elements there, there are definitely Nigerians there whose quest to source for daily bread placed them in that location.
The jets should have taken out the observation post and the AA guns, and ground forces and naval units would have done a more precise job.
I'm not expecting this type of success against the NDA...except the drones use thermal cameras for surveillance. They bomb at night, and I'm sure they camouflage into the environment.
They should stop tagging them ijaw militants...i won't be surprised is all ethnicity are represented there. Theres lots of hardship. |

He also noted that the blame for the plight of refugees lies with members of Boko Haram, saying they are its cause, not the Nigerian government.
Very irresponsible statement. Whose job is it to protect life and property? Whose job is it to provide security?.
Leaving the subject matter of nepotism and focusing on bokoharam is leaving one failure to focus on another. |

ideology: cbn is practising trial and error, they just want to see how the market will react.
But I think it's foolishness.
We are losing FX, and they are shouting let increase our exports. The best way to increase Fx is to export processed products, but Nigeria has been exporting raw materials.
Now how will a manufacturer assess loan and set up a factory to process raw materials to finished products with this exchange rate, don't forget that if the commercial banks are get it at 14%, they will give it out at 20 upwards %
Who suffers this? the poor masses,
Recession is looming, tighten your belt...

Cluelessness that we have been prophesing is here When they employ due political relationships and not do a rigorous recruitment to get the best hands in the country, how do you expect them to progress? Those "targeted head hunting" done through the years, is coming back to hunt us. The constitution has already reduced our ability to recruit the best hands into sensitive positions by the federal character, tribalism, favouritism and nepotism has made it worse. Expect more problems Nigerians, oil will stay at the 50 dollars range for the next one year. And expect the avengers to keep blowing up things. If PMB cannot do the little as condemn herdsmen to send a message, you expect the niger deltans to condemn the avengers? We are going to put our generation in serious trouble with the rate we are going |

Politics › Re: UN Suspends Operations In Nigeria After Boko Haram Surprise Attack by tempest02: 8:59am On Jul 29, 2016 |
fratermathy: What most Nigerians do not understand is that terrorism, once birthed, may take decades to phase out after being conquered. No government can wipe out every single person with terrorist inclinations as they abound. In the Nigerian situation, Boko Haram has been defeated because they have no stronghold. They have been decimated and their capacity for inflicting real damage has been checked. The only attacks they are capable of now is small/surprise ones like this. They have no real power and they are no more a threat. This is why the president said they have been technically defeated.!
No one should politicize terrorism! Buhari and Jonathan may have made mistakes but millions died and the capacity for more is always open unless we project thoughts of love and peace profound to the entire North East! If you people made statements like this in the last administration, it would have helped the polity...what then happened to cause the change if tone? I always say, if Nigerians can stop this inclination to a party, and are objective in their statements and actions, then we would grow. |
