The Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, on Thursday said he has received a letter from 35 civil society organisations calling for the immediate dethronement of the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, for disobedience to constituted authority.

Mr Ganduje’s spokesperson, Abba Anwar, in a statement sent to PREMIUM TIMES said the CSOs are concerned that Mr Sanusi is making efforts to create a state within a state.

Mr Anwar did not list the 35 CSOs but said their request was signed by Iybrahim Ali, described as the chairman of the coalition.

Mr Ganduje has sought to whittle down the influence of Mr Sanusi by creating four new emirates and appointing first-class emirs for them.

Before the new law was put in place, the emir of Kano was the only first-class emir in the state.

Mr Ganduje has defended his actions saying it was in meeting with the popular demand of residents of the state.

Critics, however, say Mr Ganduje is moving against Mr Sanusi because the latter was critical of his government and did not support his re-election.

In his statement, Mr Anwar did not indicate if the governor would commence the process to dethrone Mr Sanusi and when that would be done.

Kano Emirates: Gov. Ganduje Receives Letter From CSOs Urging For Immediate Dethronement of Emir Sanusi II

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state has received a letter from a coalition of 35 civil society groups urging him to, in the interest of protecting the sanctity of the rule of law, and the mandate given to him by Kano electorate, as a matter of urgency, start the process of dethroning the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

The letter titled “Kano State Emirate Council Law, 2019 : Demand Letter” states clearly that, “The coalition of 35 Civil Society Groups under the above-mentioned group (UMBRELLA OF KANO CONCERNED CIVIL SOCIETY GROUPS) are curiously studying the unfolding events in the running of Kano State affairs especially in recent time, as it relates to the lingering face-off between the Government of Kano State on one hand and the Emir of Kano on the other hand.”
Reminding specifically that, matters that arose from the aftermath of Kano State High Court decision nullifying the Kano State Emirate Council Law, that was enacted by the State House of Assembly, which eventually paved way for the enactment of another Law, creating additional 4 First Class Emirates, which also empowers the Governor to take disciplinary measures against any erring emir, “…should be effected,” according to the letter.

The letter was signed by Comrade Ibrahim Ali, Chairman of the Coalition, which continues that, “Soon afterwards, the same Law which repeals all the existing Emirate Councils Laws, and consolidates it in the Kano State Emirate Council Law 2019, was again been challenged first by the purportedly 5 kingmakers from one of the 5 Emirates established by the said law.”

The letter lamented that, even the “…second litigation was initiated by the so-called Kano State Elders who indulged their group in their understanding that, the Law was aimed at distorting 1000 years of heritage or thereafter of Kano.”

After narrating all the disagreed areas in the letter, the group demands that, “That the action of the Emir of Kano Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II of continued undermining the constituted authority of the government of Kano State and its organs, is not only unconstitutional, but is an effort to create a state within a state. Which no responsible leadership will tolerate and allow to remain unabated.”

After dismissing the “Kano Elders” claim in making reference to “1000 years of heritage” the group deems it to say that that position was diversionary and only an attempt to derail from the reality, “…that the so-called elders making reference to 1000 years old heritage are completely derailing from the reality.”

They suggested that “With the recent decision of Kano State High Court, His Excellency shall proceed and ensure the full take-off of the Council of Emirs in the State. So as to stop the current distraction and generation of controversy.”

The letter seeks that, “If the Emir of Kano fails to submit to the authority of the government of Kano State, we call on the Governor of Kano State on the strongest term, to act strictly in accordance with the provision of Kano Emirate Council Law 2019 in order to heed the state forward.”

They concluded that they hope their demands and recommendations get the governor’s attention, noting and further necessary action, as provided by the Law establishing all the 4 Emirates in the state.

A ‘man of God’ is standing before an Igbosere Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Lagos State for allegedly hiring a six-man gang of suspected assassins to kill a female pastor, Janet Ogunsola, for being more popular than him.

Pastor Benjamin Akinsanya, the pastor in charge of The Life House Ministry, Ojo Barracks, Ojo, Lagos, allegedly paid the suspects N500,000 to terminate the life of the female pastor in charge of Glorious Chapel Ministry located at 1, Adeleye Street, Ojo, to prevent her from being more popular spiritually than him in Ojo environs, The Nation reports.

Other defendants charged alongside the pastor whose church is located on Ifeoma Street, opposite Ojo Barracks, Ojo, included Darlington Orji, 25, and liberty Elvis, 29.

The trial Magistrate, A.A. Famobiwo who ordered their remand said they should remain in custody of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCS) until they perfect their bail.

Prosecuting CSP C.C. Onwumere informed the court that the defendants committed the offense in October 2019 at 1, Adeleye Street, Ojo, Lagos.

The pastor and others are facing a five-count bothering on attempted murder and belonging to an unlawful society called Aiye cult confraternity.

Police counsel, CSP Onwumere C.C informed the court that the accused persons committed the offense in October 2019 at 1, Adeleye Street, Ojo, Lagos.

Onwumere told the court that Pastor Akinsanya allegedly sponsored the two other defendants and others still at large, to help him kill the complainant for becoming more popular than him in church ministry in Ojo area of Lagos.

It was alleged that Akinsanya, 56, allegedly paid the suspects N500,000 to terminate the life of the female pastor.

Police alleged that sometime in October 2019, the suspects, with others still at large, invaded the residence of the complainant armed with guns to attempt to kill her.

It was alleged that when the defendants, could not find the complainant at home, they allegedly shot sporadically into her residence and left.

Following the development, the complainant sent a save-our-soul petition to the Inspector General of Police, (IGP) Mohammed Adamu.

The complainant, Pastor Ogunsola had stated that a woman came to her church to complain of problems and that she led her prayer warriors to pray for her and she left.

“After about a month, the woman came back to my church to give testimonies that the prayer she received in my church has solved her problems. She also stated that she had been battling with the problems for the past eight years at Akinsanya’s Church without a solution. When Akinsanya heard of the testimonies, he vowed to kill me because almighty God used me to solve the problem of his former church member”, Ogunsola stated.

Following the report, IGP Adamu directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP in charge of FSARS, Lagos, Durosimi Olatoye to hunt down the suspects.

Olatoye gave a marching order to his crack team led by Supol Garba Oseni to fish out the suspects anywhere they may be hiding.

And the police team arrested the pastor who later led the operatives to arrest two of the suspects while others managed to escape.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Famobiwo granted them bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with two sureties each in the like sum.

He adjourned the case until December 12.

Organised labour has vowed to shut down First Bank of Nigeria over plans to sack over 1,000 of its workers without following due process.

President of the National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees (NUBIFIE), Anthony Abakpa, who told The Guardian Wednesday that letters were already written and likely to be rolled to the workers yesterday, said the union will ensure it didn’t happen.

He said the union, which is already at alert has written to all labour centres, including the Ministry the Labour and Employment, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and the Association of Senior Staff of Banks Insurance and Financial Institutions (ASSBIFI).

He said if the lender goes ahead to sack the workers, they will also move swiftly into action by shutting the bank indefinitely.

“How will a bank just go ahead and sack workers without due process and without following the labour laws? If they do anything without following the labour laws, it is an infringement on the rights of the workers and we are going to act swiftly,” Abakpa assured.

He noted that the union would force the bank to respect labour laws, adding that it needs to adhere to laid down guidelines and negotiate good severance packages before sacking the workers.

“We believe in dialogue and collective agreement. Anything that is alien will be unacceptable because we will not support plans that will not be in the interest of workers,” he said.

He said further said: “We have also communicated with our sister union in the bank, the Association of Senior Staff of Banks Insurance and Financial Institutions (ASSBIFI) so that all of us will be on the same page.

“The Ministry has promised to call the bank for a meeting. We got to know that they said the number is not up to 1,000, but they are not denying that they have it in the pipeline to sack workers at this period of the year. We considered this unacceptable, most especially without carrying the union along.”

ASSBIFI President, Oyinkansola Olasanoye, also confirmed that the bank was in the process of disengaging the workers.
She said ASSBIFI was in contact with the NUBIFIE leadership and has put her members on the alert should there be the need for any industrial action against the Bank.

When The Guardian contacted the Corporate Communications Manager of First Bank, Ismail….he refused to comment on the issue, saying he will get back.

Ahead of the governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa states on Saturday , President Muhammadu Buhari and his predecessor, Dr Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday condemned violence that had characterised campaigns in the two states .
Jonathan , who handed over to Buhari in 2015 , described signals coming from the two states as disturbing.
On Wednesday, one person was killed at the Peoples Democratic Party rally in Bayelsa State . Last month, a man was killed at Anyigba , Kogi State , after hoodlums attacked a convoy of governorship candidate of the PDP in Kogi State , Mr Musa Wada.
He expressed concern about violence and killings in the two states, saying this would not have happened if Nigeria had got to a point where voter cards mattered .
On his part, Buhari asked security agencies to ensure that citizens were allowed to vote at tomorrow’ s elections to be conducted in the two states .
The President further directed that all cases of ballot box - snatching should be handled by legal means.
Buhari stated , “ I call on voters in Bayelsa and Kogi states to exercise their franchise in a peaceful and orderly manner and in line with the law in all situations.
“ Law enforcement officials must ensure that citizens are allowed to vote without harassment and intimidation and any attempt to steal or hijack ballots must be stopped using all legal means.
“ In all democratic elections, there are bound to be winners and losers and the elections in Bayelsa and Kogi will not be different.
“ All candidates should be ready to accept the outcomes and wherever they are dissatisfied, they should follow due process of the law in seeking redress. There must not be a resort to self- help” , a State House statement quoted Buhari as saying .

Violence during campaigns saddening – Buhari
The Presidency reviewed the campaigns ahead of the polls , noting that the cases of violence recorded in some areas were saddening and unnecessary .
The statement , which was signed by presidential media aide, Mr Garba Shehu, added, “ On Saturday , November 16, voters in two states, Bayelsa and Kogi , will be left alone to decide who takes charge of the administration of their important states for the next four years.
“ Since the ban on campaigns was lifted a few weeks ago , their citizens have been called to attend political rallies of various hues and were bombarded with advertising on billboards , radio and TV ; texts , tweets, WhatsApp and Facebook posts in campaigns that sadly, have so far recorded not a few uninspiring incidents of violence and of intemperate use of language .
Signals from Kogi, Bayelsa disturbing – Jonathan
But Jonathan described the signals from Bayelsa and Kogi states as worrisome , saying that only electronic voting process could stop thuggery , violence during elections in Nigeria.
Jonathan expressed sadness that people were already being killed when election had not begun, adding that the only way out was electronic voting.
He spoke in Port Harcourt on Thursday during the presentation of a book authored by a former deputy governor of Rivers State , Sir Gabriel Toby , titled ‘In the Cause of Service: Memoir of Gabriel Tamunobiebere George Toby’ .
The former President stressed that the people would be able to elect those they believed in should the country begin to vote electronically.
He expressed optimism that electronic voting would work in Nigeria, owing to the fact that several Nigerians transferred billions of dollars from one bank to the other through electronic means.
“ Look at what is happening now; we have governorship elections in two states in Kogi and Bayelsa. The signals coming from both are quite disturbing.
“ The use of thugs, shooting guns and our people are already being killed when the voting process has not even started is disturbing. This would not happen if we have got to a point in this country where voter card matters.
“ That is why I have always advocated electronic voting. We must go into electronic voting. If people these days can transfer billions of dollars from one bank to the other, using electronic means, then I believe that we can do electronic voting perfectly and that will ensure that the use of thugs during elections would not come up again .”
Jonathan further noted that political offices in the country did not change their holders, rather, the people with low integrity were being voted into offices.
He added that when the country developed to a point where voter card mattered , politicians would mend their ways .
“ My opinion is that people don ’t change when they get into political office; we vote people that we don ’ t know into offices and it is difficult to know the true character of a person; it is hard to understand, but the fact is we don ’t really vote people we know. People tend to use different means to get into office.

Unarguably, the condition of roads in Lagos State has never been as bad as it is today. Indeed, most roads in the State are in a terrific state of disrepair.

Everywhere you go to in the state, there is a sad tale to tell of the shambolic condition of roads there. Potholes of diverse sizes and numbers are prominent features of most roads in the state.

Meanwhile, the current administration in the State is sparing no effort to return Lagos roads to its former glory.

Furthermore, and in fairness to the Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led administration, most of the pothole-riddled roads were inherited from the previous administration. The current state of roads in Lagos is mainly due to little or no interest in road rehabilitation demonstrated by the Akinwumni Ambode-led administration.

Upon assumption of office, Governor Babajide Sanwo–Olu, signed his first Executive Order on Thursday 30th May 2019.

Part of the Executive Order directed that the Lagos State Public works Corporation (LSPWC) to commence patching and rehabilitation of bad roads to address the perennial problem of traffic in the State.

In obedience to the Executive Order, the LSPWC has commenced aggressive rehabilitation of roads around Lagos state.

Also, on October 14, 2019, Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu declared a state of emergency on road construction and rehabilitation across Lagos State. The Governor declared the state of emergency during a meeting with road construction contractors.

In a statement, the Governor said, “We totally understand the plight of all Lagosians regarding the state of our roads. We are fully aware of our responsibility, and we do not plan to fall short of it.”

“Though the current weather has not been favorable, we are putting together measures to ease the burden of commuters”, the governor said.

Currently, extensive rehabilitation works are ongoing on some major roads in the State.

Some days ago, Gov. Sanwo-Olu went round inspecting some of the roads being worked upon to assess the quality of work and materials used.

Amongst the roads inspected by the Governor are Ahmadu Bello way and Bonny Camp axis.

Accompanying him on the tour was the Special Adviser on Works and Infrastructure, Engineer Aramide Adeyoye.

Candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has broken his silence after recently losing his bid to challenge President Muhammadu Buhari’s victory in the February 23 presidential election at the Election Petitions Tribunal, Igbere TV reports.

Atiku, in statement obtained by Igbere TV on Friday, confirmed that he and his party, the PDP, would be challenging the Tribunal verdict at the Supreme Court.

The former vice president explained that his decision to proceed to the Supreme Court is to fight for Nigeria’s democracy.

Reno Omokri, former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has identified the late former military Head of State, Sani Abacha, as the biggest thief in world history, stating that 21-years after, more loots linked to the former dictator were still being uncovered.

Cameroon Coach Seedorf Reveals His Major Worry Ahead Of Blockbuster Game Vs Nigeria
Cameroon coach Clarence Seedorf is worried about his team's blunt strike force ahead of their blockbuster Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 clash against Nigeria in Alexandria on Saturday.

Like the Super Eagles, the Indomitable Lions netted only two goals in the group stages but they have a better defensive record than the West Africans, with the highly-rated Ajax Amsterdam goalkeeper André Onana yet to concede in the tournament.

Clinton N'Jie (Marseille), Stéphane Bahoken (Angers), Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (PSG), Karl Toko Ekambi (Villarreal), Joel Tagueu (Portugal Marítimo) and Jacques Zoua (Astra Giurgiu) are the players classed as strikers in the Cameroon squad.

''I do not think of Nigeria (opponent in the round of 16), we just finished the match, I'm very happy because we qualified, but we were disappointed because we wanted to win the match, we completely controlled this match,'' Seedorf was quoted as saying by France Football.

''We have to improve in several details, especially in attack, we have to be smarter to create more opportunities, we have not conceded a goal yet, there are positive things for the future. ''

The Super Eagles have not lost to Cameroon since they were beaten 1-0 in a World Cup qualifier in August 1989.

My wife says no sex until her mother leaves our house.

I'm happily married with two young kids ages 2 and 4. We stay in a 2-bedroom apartment and usually leave the connecting door ajar so that if the kids wake up during the night they may have access to our room to seek comfort, which is very frequent especially during these noisy thunder storms.

My problem started with the arrival of my mother-in-law, less than a week ago to spend 2 months. Of course, she sleeps with her grand kids in their room.

This doesn’t stop them from frequenting our room during the night, so the door is still left ajar. Much to my amazement, my wife has now told me that she will no longer allow us to copulate during the time her mother is with us. She said her mum scolded her and feels we are rude to engage in lovemaking knowing fully well that she is in the adjoining room.
