Historical infrastructure in place
Economy stable
Destination for employing IT professionals
Destination for those seeking cheaper education in Europe

Then it pursued a foolish agenda to join NATO, knowing that Russia would not standby and watch

Many more now refugees in other nations

You can't just decide that the CPI measures the true state of an economy. There is more than one way to measure or define economy.
Did you know that inflation increases the CPI?
Let's not isolate one factor and make it the be it all. Again, I never said that the Russian economy was having it's best of time, I only said that you have no way of predicting what would be fall the economy after the war.
After the war, Russia could return to being one of the biggest energy exporters. Sanctions will be taking away. Investors will flood. No one can honestly predict, we can only guess.
