The more I read, the faster new pages emerge for me to read.

I can't comment on already discussed issues, hence it could mean draging forumites back to already treated issues.

The thought of skipping hundreds of pages unread is a battle I must overcome.

Please the Prayer Worriors of this thread led by TheSuperNerd should please pray for me to overcome.

Thank you all.

Iwobi does that well enough, so, Etebo cannot convert free kicks?

We don't need to outmuscle Messi, Messi no even get muscle.

Can Etebo convert free kicks? We are lacking there

Can he goal keep? We are having a crisis there.

It's like taking fancy new shoes on a trip, only to get there and find that they aren't appropriate for any occassion
Did you watch Etebo against against Barca?

Seriously I never took TheSuperNerd's gospel of Etebo (Man with 10 lungs) seriously until I saw his showing against Barca.

It is on this basis that I have come to believe he can cause problems to opponents by making them commit fouls against him.

Believe me Etebo has the energy that when properly channelled by the technical crew can cause a lot of problems to opponents.

The energy level wey Etebo get de learn for Iwobi side gringrin

those videos are that of the NNL and basically NNL doesn't drive much supporters like the NPFL, I v gone to stadiums to watch both and I can tell u u can get at least 3k in any I NPFL match centre but u would struggle to get 500 at any NNL match centre.

Generally I still think publicity for our league is low, both on broadcast media and social media and the club's themselves are to blame I know some twitter handles of NNL and even NPFL sides that wouldn't update their page for their next match and they would only do so days after the last match.

I think the point above is y NPFL gets more crowd than NNL cuz the publicity the former gets is more higher than the latter.

the first thing to do is PUBLICISE the league, I believe this will bring fans. I never knew I had a course mate who had interests in the local leagues until I told him ikorodu United were playing Go round at the gateway stadium that Sunday. I was surprised he asked me not to forget to remind him whenever I'm leaving for the stadium and we went together.

Now imagine the number of fans who would v gone to see the games if only they knew.

but then I v a cousin who despite my preachings never followed me to the Osogbo township stadium to see osun united play he x aware of the league but he has a bad perception of it. now how do u convert this kind of a person? u need to repackage and increase the volume of publicity. there is this theory that no matter how poor a media content is "constant and consistent exposure of it to media users will make them get used and make it interesting to them".

my cousin always use the South African league as an example he has said it v4 that he would rather pay 5k to subscribe to dstv and watch the SA psl than spend 100naira to get a cab to watch NNL n NPFL matches at the stadium.

long story short, let's repackage the league we can start with the NTA deal advertise upcoming games with colourful graphics and the best goals from previous match centres like the epl does. I'm 90% sure if dx x done for at least 2 seasons there would be massive increase in followership of the league

let the publicity be consistent even when there is no match until weekend. on TV, Radio (the radio stations even do more of this than TV and newspapers ) and newspapers

Security should be increased then the quality of play should improve.

if u doubt that there x still interest in the league watch MFM home games on YouTube from 2016, watch Rangers etc even Remo stars had more fans that I tot. I saw vip stand with 500naira tickets filled, some brought their families.

during my visit to a remo stars home game, I heard a guy say at the popular side stand that "this is our league, this I can spend my money to watch not a league where my existence is not known to them". u v to see dx guys discuss about Abiola babe's, gateway united etc

Many are willing to come but they need a little PUSH and conviction

I am impressed.

I already have a feeling this topic should have made front page so that more people who have negative perception about our league will have a change of mind.

Problems have already been identified and workable solutions raised.

My eyes are opened the more as I stay glued to wonderful suggestions.

Fulfude people are also killed everyday by the natives of this land but the media don't usually report such killings. How can there even be lasting peace in this troubled areas if only the atrocities of the herdsmen are the only things people see in the media?

Innocent Fulani women and children were slaughtered like chickens in Adamawa state just two months ago, nobody is saying anything(heck, some people were even justifying the killings). Fulani people were killed in their dozens in this same benue state and nobody says anything about it because according to Nigerians, the fulfude people are the villains, they are the bad guys, the fulfude people are the oppressors, so killing them is like winning a trophy. Fulfude women and children were butchered in plateau and what happened next, people only crucified the dead fulfude women/kids and applauded the perpetrators of the dastardly act.

Injustice to one is injustice to all. We cant continue to be going in circles and still hope for some solutions. Every perpetrator in this inhumane massacres should be brought to book including the people who killed innocent Fulani women and kids just because they had some issues with herdsmen. And this is what is called JUSTICE.

This is my take on this endless bloodbath between the herdsmen and the farmers. You can insult me all you want, but who cares?

I stand for JUSTICE for/to all. Nonetheless, I really do hope that the herdsmen VS farmers crisis will be solved ASAP. This I sincerely wish.

CAF responds on why they scrapped some awards categories

The Confederation of African Football boss Ahmad Ahmad

by Phumzile Ngcatshe

The Confederation of African Football’s president Ahmad Ahmad has defended the body's decision to remove the Africa-based Player of the Year category from its 2017 Awards.

The continental football governing body also removed the Referee of the Year accolade last month after 10 footballers and six referees had originally been shortlisted for the accolades.

"It's very simple, we want to promote African football," said Ahmad.

"There's no two levels of football in Africa. Best is best, not best for the bad or best for the best. That's the reason.

"Best player in Africa is the young player. If you want to go up, don't stay down. Don't sit down.”

The CAF boss added that referees already have their own awards as he responded why that gong has also been scrapped.

"The referees already have their own awards by being recognised for high profile games,” adds Ahmad.

"Based on the locations of the referee, they're rewarded with - say for example - the champions league quarterfinals and subsequent games.

"Another argument is that it is unethical. The committee believes that by giving referees awards, it may lead to some corruption at a latter stage."

Salah: I want to be the best Egyptian player in history

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah celebrates scoring

by Phumzile Ngcatshe

Mohamed Salah has set his sights on becoming the best Egyptian player in history.

The Liverpool winger, who was on Wednesday evening named the 2017 CAF African Player of the Year, has enjoyed an outstanding first season at Anfield.

The 25-year-old has netted an impressive 23 goals in 29 games since joining the Reds from Italian Serie A outfit AS Roma in July.

Having helped the Pharaohs to a second place finish at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, Salah scored the decisive goal as the North African's sealed their return to a FIFA World Cup Tournament for the first time since 1990.

Following an eye-catching year for both club and country, the former Chelsea attacker now hopes to one day go down as Egypt's best ever.

"I have always wanted to be here [one of Africa’s best players]," said Salah. "I put myself under pressure and take risks. Right now I have the ambition to be the best Egyptian player in history."

See stadium. I think I could count like three spectators in the stand. Nawaa ,we gotta do better. How do we bring people out to watch Nigerian leagues because I think that is one of the reason the standards are so poor. Your mentality will change when you see 20,000 spectators in the stand waving flags and screaming.
A valid question for our candid considerations Sir. I think this is another area we need to deliberate on seriously and make recommendations to the appropriate quarters.

What can we do to improve on poor spectators in our stands during matches?

Swedish giants Degefors sign Nigerian U17 duo

Joel Signing For Degefors

by Phumzile Ngcatshe

Thursday Jan 04, 2018. 15:30

Nigerian U17 duo Joel Daniel and Ladan Muhammed have signed for Degefors IF in Sweden.

The Swedish second tier outfit has concluded the signing of two Nigerian prospects according to media reports in Nigeria.

OwngoalNigeria reports that the duo was first spotted by the club scouts when they turned out for Jos-based Gee-Lec Academy in a tournament that had scouts from European teams in attendance.

Both Daniel and Muhammed were part of the 2017 U17 team of Nigeria and have signed three year deals, according to their agent Babawo Mohammed.

”Joel and Ladan are part of the reasons why I travelled to Sweden at the end of last year, and it has paid off now for them. Sweden is a nice place for young players to develop,” he told Owngoalnigeria.com.

”Degefors are an ambitious side despite their status as a second division team, the addition of Ladan and Joel will no doubt help their quest to qualify to play in the first division in the future.”

Nigerian Ahmed Musa’s future at Leicester under review

Ahmed Musa

by Brian Lee

Monday Jan 01, 2018. 10:30

With the January transfer window opening the future of Nigerian Ahmed Musa at Leicester City is under review.

The 25-year-old joined Leicester in July 2016 for a then club record fee of £16m, but has played just once this season and as a result manager Claude Puel is questioning his worth at the English Premier League club.

“It's not the time to speak about if he can bring something to the squad or if he can leave the squad in January,” Puel told BBC Sport.

“We'll look at all the players. At the moment the status quo remains.

“He's a good player with quality. For me he's not a striker, he's a winger who can play on the left or right.

“He can attack space, has good penetration but there's imbalance in competition with (Marc) Albrighton, (Demarai) Gray and (Riyad) Mahrez.

“Sometimes it's tough, it's difficult for the staff to make a choice and give him more game time but in training sessions he always has a positive attitude and this is very important for him and the squad.”

Omeruo (left) in training at Kasimpasa last season

by Graeme Jackson

Wednesday Jan 03, 2018. 09:00

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has indicated that Nigerian internationals Kenneth Omeruo and Ola Aina will not be recalled from their loan clubs in the January transfer window.

The Blues currently have no less than five players of Nigerian descent out on loan, with Omeruo and Aina (who are at Kasimpasa and Hull City respectively) joined by Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori and Ike Ugbo.

Aside from Ugbo at Barnsley, the players have all enjoyed regular playing time at their loan clubs and Conte believes they are better left to develop their games rather than being recalled.

“I don’t think this could be realistic. The players we send on loan are playing,” said Conte in Tuesday's press conference, attended by Football.London.

“I don’t see a possibility for players to come back on loan. I remember last January with [Nathan] Ake, Kenedy and [Charly] Musonda coming back to improve our squad.”

Chelsea are set to face Arsenal in a heavyweight Premier League battle at the Emirates Stadium tonight.

Some important points we need to bookmark so we can forward to the appropriate authorities when the time demands.

''We will continue to modify as more suggestions resurface''

Icon4s:

Sebi I have said this before.

We need to have a standing U19/20/21 team. We engage them with friendlies each time we are on international break.
We don't need to wait to see some of these players play for the Super Eagles to see their readiness to play at that level.
We can even organize friendlies between our U20 team and less fancied senior teams like those of Benin or Togo.
They can even play against our CHAN team or NPFL champions. Or can take part in the Super6 just like in 2015.

Icon4s:

That is what they don't want to hear.

But if left to me there should be an age limit for players participating in CHAN.

If the major purpose is to unearth talented players who are not given the opportunity to shine because of the preponderance of foreign players in the national team, then preference should be given to the younger players. Is someone like Rabiu Ali still aspiring to make the Super Eagles Team?

This tourney, IMO, should be restricted to U21 players still playing in their local leagues. We still have a good number of players within this age bracket that have not had the opportunity to showcase themselves. Besides, scouts are typically after young talented players and not those who have passed their primes in the local leagues. Europeans also have an U21 Tourney different from the U19/20. Cant we also do same? But in this case solely for home based players. Besides this will give teams a good start in the scouting for U23 players. For Eg the next AAG is in 2019 and Olympics in 2020. Players who are U21 in 2018 would still be U23 in 2020.

I am still yet to buy into this CHAN idea.

tbaba1234:

Ejide started playing for the super eagles when he was in Gabros as a teenager.

Afeez Aremu just got a deal because scouts watched him play in the WAFU cup. Chikatara moved to north Africa on the back of a decent CHAN.

How about giving young potentials that opportunity? No foreign club will buy Rabiu Ali at 40 years. Or Ezenwa/Ajiboye/Afelokhai.. They are old and can't be taught new things.

International exposure at national/club level could also have played an important role in Ejide's move to north Africa.

If he did not get the opportunity at an early age, he might never have moved.

The CHAN tournament should be a discovery/exposure tournament. Get our young talents the needed exposure, that could be critical.

one new player to watch out for, coming from the NNL is Micheal Ohanu, he scored a couple of hattricks last season and he is NNL player of the season (officially, he has an award to that effect) and he was the highest goal scorer with 22 goals.
he plays for kwara united

Another player from the NNL now in the NPFL is TOSIN OMOYELE he is now with Plateau united and he came in from Osun united, he hit double digits for the omoluabi giants I think he had 15 goals all season . he is actually easy to identify as he is almost an albino, but not fully his hair is not black and not fully blonde.

Chikatara Backs Home Eagles To Win CHAN Title In Morocco

By Adeboye Amosu:‎
Chisom Chikatara believes Nigeria can win a first African Nations Championship title in Morocco next year, reports Comple tesportsnigeria.com.‎

The West Africans despite their pedigree as one of the most powerful footballing countries in the continent are yet to win the CHAN, a competition specially designed for African players plying their trade in their countries’ domestic leagues.

After missing the first two editions of the competition, the Home Eagles came third in their first appearance in 2014, losingt to perenial rivals Ghana in the semi-finals.

Nigeria however failed to make it beyond the group stage at the last edition in Rwanda where Chikatara who now plays for Moroccan club Raja Casablanca, came into limelight after scoring four goals in three games for the team.

Though not eligible to play for the team again, Chikatara has backed the current team to go all the way in Morocco.

“I believe we have a team that is strong enough to win the competition this time around,” the former Abia Warriors forward told Completesportsnigeria.com.‎

“It’s a shame that a country like Nigeria with our antecedent and pedigree has not won the competition and this is the time to prove we are the best in the continent.

“I have a lot of friends in the team and we talk frequently. They told me how determined they are to win the trophy this time around which I believe is a possibility.

“The only thing they have to adapt to is the weather because it is really cold here in Morocco now and it will be colder in January.

”The fact that they are in Abuja which is also cold now and arriving here early in January should help them adapt to the weather. ”

The Home Eagles are drawn in Group C along with Rwanda, Libya and Equatorial Guinea.

The competition will run from January 13 to February 4.

The writer's position on Uzoho is debatable.

He inspired confidence for the few times he manned the goal post for his Club and Country. If the writer had said he lacks experience, I would have agreed.

Angers seems to be a team with ''liki liki'' defense which is going to keep Enyaema on his toes, thereby puting him in good shape for the World Cup if he finally agrees to return to be part of the Super Eagles squad.

On the overall, it is going to be a win win situation for them #BringBackEnyeamaCrew#

Enyeama Set To Join French Club Angers

By Johnny Edward:

Former Super Eagles captain Vincent Enyeama is set to join struggling French club Angers SCO when the January transfer window opens, Comple tesportsnigeria.com reports.

Enyeama, who recently returned to action for Lille’s U-18s in a French fourth-tier division game early this month after spending seven months out due to a knee injury, is expected to replace Angers SCO’s second choice goalkeeper Mathieu Michel who is close to a return to Ligue 2 side Nimes Olympique.

According to a report on French website, Sportune.fr, Angers SCO must splash €500,000 to €1m to land Enyeama who has 18 months left on his current deal with Lille.

Enyeama’s return to club football action six months to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia may reignite calls for his return to the Super Eagles squad with the trio of Daniel Akpeyi, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and **Francis Uzoho** not inspiring confidence.

Angers are currently 19th in the Ligue 1 table with 18 points from 19 games.

If the deal goes through, Angers SCO will be the third European team the 35 year old will be playing from since he moved to Bnei Yehuda in 2005 from Heartland FC.

Enyeama retired from international football in 2015 after falling out with then Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh.

Meanwhile, our dearest beloved Tammy has finally exhausted his chances and the coach has dropped him to the bench for failing to score a goal in 10 games
