The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Nigeria, His Excellency Nikolay Udovichenko says he is looking forward to Nigeria and Russia clashing in the final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on Sunday, 15th July 2018.

Russia will host the global tournament from 14 June until 15 July 2018 and hosts nation has been pitted against Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay.

Nigeria are in Group D along with Iceland, Croatia as well as Argentina.

“I want to congratulate the NFF and the Super Eagles for Nigeria’s qualification for the FIFA World Cup. Please be assured that the Russian Federation is fully ready to host the competition,” Udovichenko said on the Nigeria Football Federation official website.

“We have received a lot of requests from the host cities on what special characteristics the Nigerian team have. They want to be fully prepared in all aspects to receive the Super Eagles.

“From the depth of my heart, I am hoping that your team makes it to the final in Moscow on 15th July, to play against Russia.”

Udovichenko spoke on Tuesday afternoon as he received a delegation from the Nigeria Football Federation, led by its President, Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick.

Pinnick thanked the Ambassador for his good wishes, while noting that Nigeria’s first feel of Russian soil ahead of the FIFA World Cup ended in a sweet victory over Argentina in a friendly match in Krasnodar.

“We helped you to beat Argentina because they had beaten your team in another friendly a few days earlier,” he continued.

“We have good relationship with the Russian Football Federation, and we desire to establish good relationship with your embassy here so that ourselves and other Nigerians going to the FIFA World Cup will have no problems with regards to entry visa.”

and if he loses form let's say in February? He should still be in the list based on his performances at the tail end of this year?

The only way he can make the 30 man list is if he is involved in the planned friendlies of next year, else, no space. As of stands, Rohr has over thirty players that have been part of his team over the past year and Efe is not one of them. If he doesn't join the fold before May, he cannot stake for a place.

Dem no dey just put people inside list like that... See sef, many people are waiting till March to discuss possible players on the list, it's for a reason.

You seem to force things down my throat just to drive your points. I have stated clearly why he will be on my list. I didn't say he must make Rohr's whether inform or not haba.

Sunderland Boss Hails Nigerian Wonderkids After First Home Win In 2017

Sunderland manager Chris Coleman had nothing but praise for Nigerian wonderkids Josh Maja and Joel Asoro after they came off the bench to help the Black Cats secure a 1-0 win over Fulham at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

Maja needed only five minutes to net the winner after his introduction and gave Sunderland their first home win in 2017

Sunderland's last home win before the contest against the Cottagers was against Watford on December 17, 2016, and they had played 21 matches at the Stadium of Light without winning.

''It was a great finish,” Coleman told safc.com.

''The game was balanced nicely and it was a nice time to introduce two new strikers onto the pitch.

''Grabbs and Vaughany had done their job really well, they had worked really hard and apart from a fantastic save from the Fulham No.1, we would’ve been 1-0 up anyway.

''We thought it was a good moment to bring on two young players and they didn’t disappoint.''

Maja's performance at Sunderland is being monitored by the Nigeria Football Federation, and the ex-Man City starlet was called up to the Super Eagles squad for their get-together in London in March 2017.

Guard against further blunders, Onigbinde cautions NFF

By Samuel Ifetoye

Chief Adegboye Onigbinde

Former Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) instructor, Coach Adegboye Onigbinde, has cautioned the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) against committing further school boys’ blunders as the country prepares for the forthcoming Mundial.

The former Super Eagles’ gaffer, who is still pained by the recent sanction slammed on the country by FIFA over the use of an ineligible player, Abdullahi Shehu, in the last World Cup qualifier.

Though the veteran coach admits that no human being is infallible, he insists that with her football pedigree, Nigeria should never be found wanting in that regards.

“We are all human beings, people can make mistakes, but such mistakes are not expected of a nation like Nigeria with her pedigree in world football. Are we then saying that we don’t have one single person, who understands the rules of the game?

“If anybody managing our football claims ignorance of these regulations then I do not know what more to say about it. This does not cut a good picture of the country. But we are lucky that in spite of it, we are still going to the World Cup.

Onigbinde, who said that the fine from FIFA does not speak well of the country added, “Let’s hope that we are not going to make further blunders. Football administration is a very simple thing if only we decide to do it right.

“Towards the 2002 World Cup in Korea/Japan, I appointed a staff of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) as the team secretary. This automatically made him the team’s administrative head. His job was to keep all records and alert us. I am very much aware of the set up in the NFF’s Technical Department, and I am of the opinion that the technical department has not been adequately empowered.”

Onigbinde, who became the first indigenous coach to take the country to the World Cup said: “If they had agreed for me to sit down with them, I would have pointed out the grey areas in the department to them. That problem is still there up till today and there is even a bigger confusion as regards the functions of those in that department.

“These are the lapses we are talking about, there is a lot of things wrong with our football administration because we are not doing it right. If you don’t do it right, you cannot get it right and it is most unfortunate. I am very sad about the sanction, not only sad, but also angry.

I rarely get angry but this time around, I am angry, because I know we are capable of doing things better. I can only wish Nigeria the very best of luck,” he stated.

(Photo Confirmation) Talented Nigerian Midfielder Signs New Deal With Bournemouth

Through a statement on their official website, English Premier League club Bournemouth have announced that talented Nigerian midfielder Nnamdi Ofoborh has signed his first professional contract.

The 17-year-old will remain on the books of the Cherries until at least June 30, 2020, having put pen to paper on a fresh two-and-a-half-year contract.

Nnamdi is highly regarded at Bournemouth and was named to the provisional roster for the Premier League match against Swansea City on November 25, but missed out on the 18-man match day squad.

''I'm so happy, it's a dream come true it really is,'' Nnamdi stated after penning the new deal.

"I've been waiting for a professional contract for a long time, I've worked extremely hard.

''I was released from two clubs before I was lucky enough to get a trial here and I haven't looked back.''

Nnamdi Ofoborh played for the youth teams of Tottenham Hotspur and Millwall prior to his shift to Bournemouth.

COMEBACK KIDS: 5 Players Who Could Crash Super Eagles World Cup Party

The 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia may still be six months away, but Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr will already be looking for potential members of his 23-man squad.

Completesportsnigeria.com‘s JAMES AGBEREBI wonders if these FIVE experienced players could work their way back into the Super Eagles squad in time for next year’s showpiece…

VINCENT ENYEAMA
Vincent Enyeama, 35, retired from international football after falling out with former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh in 2015, but there have been serious calls for the goalkeeper to return for the 2018 World Cup.

In his absence, Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Carl Ikeme took over and impressed with his performances.

Unfortunately, all the talk of finally finding a reliable goalkeeper was shattered after Ikeme was diagnosed with acute leukemia in July this year.

Ikeme’s unfortunate illness led to the emergence of the likes of Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Daniel Akpeyi who have failed to impress, which has led to clamours in some quarters for Enyeama’s return to the Eagles.

And after over seven months out due to injury, Enyeama made a return to action for the first time for Lille’s U-18s in their 3-1 win over Croix in the French fourth tier last Saturday.

OBAFEMI MARTINS
Obafemi Martins’ last game for the Super Eagles was coming on as a 74th minute substitute for Ahmed Musa in the Super Eagles’ 2-0 home win against Swaziland in the second leg, second 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier in November 15, 2015.

Since then he has not been considered for invitation by the Super Eagles coaching crew.

But back in his Chinese Super League club, Shanghai Shenshua, Martins was impressive as he scored seven goals in 13 league appearances last season.

And in the 2017 Chinese FA Cup final against Shaghai SIPG, 33-year-old Martins was instrumental as the club clinched their fourth cup win.

He scored a goal each in both legs of the Cup final which ended 3-3 on aggregate (Shanghai Shenhua won the first leg 1-0 and lost the reverse fixture 3-2).
Also, Martins was the highest goal scorer of this year’s Chinese FA Cup with six goals.

BARTHOLOMEW OGBECHE
Bartholomew Ogbeche made his debut for the Super Eagles in a 1-1 friendly game against Paraguay en route to the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

The highlight of the friendly against Paraguay was Ogbeche’s spectacular bicycle kick which cemented his place in the squad for the World Cup.

Unfortunately, Ogbeche could not replicate his pre-World Cup performances as the Eagles crashed out in the group stage.

Ogbeche played for the Eagles up to 2004 but has been in international wilderness since then.
But there is a possibility that Ogbeche, now 33, could make a remarkable return due to his impressive goal scoring run in the Dutch top flight with Willem II Tilburg.

He has scored eight goals in seven league games this season and currently lies joint third in the Eredivisie top scorers chart, just two goals adrift of the top scorer.

EFE AMBROSE
Since departing Scottish champions Celtic for Hibernian in the summer of 2017, Efe Ambrose has become like a player reborn as he is currently enjoying his football.

Ambrose, 29, is ever present in the Hibernian team as he has played in all of their 18 league games this season.
He scored his first league goal of the season against his former club Celtic, starting the comeback in the game which saw Hibernian come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2.

As reward of his impressive performances for Hibernian so far this season, on Tuesday, Ambrose was included in the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) Team of the Week.

SONE ALUKO
After impressing for Fulham in just one season, Sone Aluko moved to fellow Championship club Reading in the summer of 2017 and has continued from where he left off with the London club.

He has made 16 appearances out of Reading’s 21 English second-tier games so far this season, scoring two goals from his midfield position.

Aluko, 28, made his Super Eagles debut in 2009 in a 1-1 friendly draw against Republic of Ireland.

His last appearance for the Eagles was against South Africa in a 2015 AFCON qualifier in 2014 which ended 2-2 in Uyo.

Aluko scored the Eagles’ two goals but it was not enough to secure qualification for the Eagles.

Featuring regularly and impressing for Reading week in, week out could see Aluko get a surprise recall to the Super Eagles ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Ordega Wants Super Falcons To Dominate World Stage, Calls For International Friendlies

Gold Usenekong
By James Agberebi: Super Falcons and Atletico Madrid’s women team forward, Francisca Ordega, says it is time for the Nigerian senior women football national team to make progress beyond being the dominant team in Africa, and start doing well at the world stage, Completesportsnigeria.com report’s.

The Super Falcons have dominated African women football since its inception, winning seven of the nine Africa Women’s Cup of Nations which started in 1998 with Nigeria as hosts.

But the team has also struggled to replicate the same dominant form when they face teams outside Africa.

Since making the quarter-finals at the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup in the USA, the Falcons have crashed out in the group stage of their last four outings (2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015).

In the latest FIFA women’s world ranking released on Friday, the Falcons dropped from 35th to 37th position.

Ordega who won the women’s AFCON in 2010, 2014 and 2016, and represented Nigeria at the 2011 and 2015 women’s senior World Cups, stated that other African teams are catching up with Nigeria.

“It’s a good feeling when you know what you are doing is right,” Ordega who joined Atletico Madrid’s women’s team on loan from American side, Washington Spirits in October 2017, said in a two-minute video on the LaLiga’s verified Twitter handle.

“I feel good when people see us as the best team in Africa, but that is not enough. We really want to be recognized in the world, not just in Africa.

“I can’t say anything about the future, but now most teams in Africa are coming hard for us. They are not sitting and allowing Nigeria to be the best in Africa. They really want to come out and show their talents, their football is developing.

“So we can’t relax because we are the best in Africa. We have to step up to the world. During the international break (for women national teams), I couldn’t go because we had no games. I think if we get more games, it’s going to help us, especially we the players. It’s going to help us in the world and not just in Africa.”

Ordega added: “Next year, we have a lot of qualifiers like the World Cup (2019) qualifiers. So, other countries are coming hard for us,. So we can’t just relax because we are the best. We really have to show that we are the best in the world and not only in Africa.”

He has been in form before December, 2017.

If you recall very well, Ambrose was sent on loan to Hibernian FC in February this year and did pretty well.

At the expiration of the loan, Hibernian Fc offered him a 2 year contract. From that period up till now, he hasn't looked back. Dude has done pretty well and can't just be overlooked. The guy's performance should earn him a place on the 30 man list.

Kayode Returns To Action As Girona Overcome Getafe

Peter Oriaku

By Johnny Edward:
Super Eagles striker Olanrewaju Kayode returned to action for Girona on Sunday in their 1-0 win over Getafe after missing his side’s last three games due to a muscle injury, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The win was Girona’s third straight victory in the Spanish LaLiga Santander and they are sixth in the table with 23 points from 16 games.

Kayode came on for Christian Stuani for the last 15 minutes of the encounter. Stuani scored the game’s only goal in the fourth minute.

He is one of the five Manchester City players ( Douglas Luiz, Marlos Moreno,Aleix Garcia and Pablo Maffeo) on loan at the Catalan side.

MAMMANA: WHY ARGENTINA WILL DO WELL IN NIGERIA’S WORLD CUP GROUP

by Austin Ditlhobolo

Saturday Dec 16, 2017. 13:00

Russia-based defender Emanuel Mammana is confident that Argentina will do well in a 2018 FIFA World Cup group which includes Nigeria.

Argentina are in Group D along with Iceland, Croatia as well as Nigeria. The prestigious global tournament will be hosted by Russia.

The FC Zenit Saint Petersburg player labelled Argentina that parades the likes of Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero one of the best in the world.

Nigeria come from behind to beat Argentina 4-2 in an international friendly match in Russia a month ago and Mammana has acknowledged that the three-time African champions are difficult opponents.

''Argentina is one of the best teams in the world, and all the teams want to beat it. We have a very difficult group: Croatia plays very well, Iceland - fight a lot, with Nigeria we met recently and lost,'' the official website of Zenit Saint Petersburg, citing Veja, quoted Mammana as saying.

''Jorge Sampaoli is a great coach who likes attacking football. Sometimes the defenders of this style of play are not easy, but this tactician has great knowledge. I believe that he will bring Argentina to the right path.

''The main favorite of the tournament, I would call Brazil, where there are great players. As always, Germany is among the contenders for the title, which is always strong,” he added.

''And I would also single out France and Belgium, although not rank them among the favorites.''

The Group D clash between Argentina and Nigeria will be played at the Krestovsky Stadium in Saint Petersburg on the 26th of June 2018.

The Flamingos drew 0-0 with Ethiopia in Benin City yesterday and qualified courtesy of their 1-1 away draw.

Meanwhile their next round opponent, Cameroon, beat Algeria 11-0 on aggregate (4-0 in Algeria, 7-0 in Cameroon) to book a meeting with Nigeria.

This got me thinking. Is it that the Ethiopians produced a very strong side or Nigeria has raised a very poor U17 team? Cos I didn't watch the game.

Secondly why have we always produced poor U17 teams at female levels. The falconets have always achieved far more than the Flamingos with 4 semi finals and two finals. While our best for the Flamingos is the quarter final.

Something is definitely not right.

We are going into that Cameroon encounter with the later as favorites.

We have never failed to qualify for any Female U17 or U20 WC. I hope this will not be the first.
Maybe NFF needs to strengthen her scouting system.
The focus must not always be Lagos and other few popular cities.

I am afraid these ladies may find the battle so tough against the free scoring opponents (Cameron).

We also have to be sincere in our way of doing things. We must always pick the best at all times. The recent case of Omidiji comes to mind.

Nigeria: Rohr Considers Inviting Sokari for Friendly Against Poland

FIFA world cup trophy.

Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr is considering inviting CS Sfaxien midfielder Kingsley Sokari for the pre-World Cup friendly against Poland on March 23, 2018, according to reports.

Although respected Tunisian outlet Gnet has claimed that the playmaker will definitely be summoned by the Nigeria Football Federation for the friendly in Poland, it is known that the list will not be made public until the first week of March next year.

The former Enyimba star, dubbed the New Iniesta in his homeland, has consistently churned out brilliant displays in the Tunisian Ligue 1 in the ongoing season and has taken part in all but one of the games played by the club.

Sokari was named CS Sfaxien's Player of the Month for November 2017 and officially picked as Man of the Match in his team's 1-0 win over Metlaoui late November.

A product of Port Harcourt City Academy, Sokari starred for the Flying Eagles at the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup and was on target from 25 yards out in their 4-0 win against Korea DPR.

He has full caps for the Super Eagles but has not been invited to the national team since the appointment of Gernot Rohr.

Salisu To Invite NPFL Invitational Stars To Home Eagles CHAN Squad

By Adeboye Amosu in Kano:

Home-based Super Eagles coach Salisu Yusuf will reshuffle his squad for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) with players who have made an impact at the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League invitational tournament in Kano to be offered the chance to stake claims for spots in the squad, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

CHAN will run from January 13 to February 4 in Morocco.

Salisu released a 30-man list for the NPFL invitational last week, a competition his team is using to prepare for CHAN.

Already the duo of Joseph Osadiaye and Destiny Ashade have been ruled out of the competition due to injury.

Plateau United forward Tosin Omoyele and Enyimba new arrivals Wasiu Alalade and Chinedu Udeagha have impressed in the competition.

“The NPFL invitational is a big chance to discover new players for CHAN and the (coach) is ready to give players who impress here the opportunity to go to Morocco,” a reliable source at the team’s Tahir Palace Hotel informed Completesportsnigeria. com.

“Already, we have pencilled down some names and they will be invited immediately the competition is over.

” The players who are already in the team know the stake is high and we are happy others are fighting hard to come in, which is another good reason to have a competition like this.

“The second phase of our pre-season will start early next year and we hope all the players will give their all.”

I am so impressed Ajiboye manned the goal post for the tie.

NPFL Invitational: Home Eagles Outscore Enyimba, Reach Final

By Adeboye Amosu in Kano: The home-based Super Eagles have progressed into the final of the Nigeria Professional Football League invitational tournament following a 1-0 win against Enyimba in their Group A clash at the Sani Abacha Stadium here in Kano on Friday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Sunday Faleye who shone in the NPFL for relegated Shooting Stars of Ibadan last season scored the winning goal for the Super Eagles in the 56th minute.

Salisu Yusuf’s charges top the group with four points ahead of Plateau United and Enyimba who finished in second and third position with two and one points respectively.

Yusuf made 10 changes to the team that played against NPFL champions Plateau United on Wednesday with only Stephen Eze retaining his place in the starting line-up.

The team was impressive right from the start with Austin Oladapo and Dayo Ojo pulling the strings in midfield.

The first chance of the game fell to Faleye in the seventh minute but he directed his header off the post following a beautiful cross from Ifeanyi Nweke.

The impressive Faleye was causing problems for the Enyimba defence and on 11 minutes he teed up Ojo who failed to direct his shot on goal.

Enyimba who looked out of sorts up till that moment were left off the hook again in the 15th minute when Emeka Ogbuh’s shot hit the woodwork.

Ojo came close again for the Home Eagles in the 27th minute, his effort going narrowly wide with Enyimba goalkeeper Fatau Dauda well beaten.

The Home Eagles upped their game after the break with Eze and Oladapo coming close to breaking the deadlock for the team.

They were however left off the hook on 52 minutes with Stanley Dimgba missing a sitter for Enyimba.

Faleye then broke the deadlock for the Home Eagles in the 56th minute.

The youngster controlled a long ball from Nweke and blasted the ball past Fatau Dauda in the Enyimba goal.

Oladele Ajiboye produced a fine save to deny Freedom Omofowan late on
as Enyimba battled hard to find the leveller.

Ajiboye also denied Chinonso Okonkwo off a free kick in the final minutes of the encounter.

SUPER EAGLES OPPONENT, CROATIA, GETS WORLD CUP BASE

Nigeria’s first Group opponents at the Russia 2018 World Cup, Croatia has picked Forest Rhapsody Resort in the village Ilicevo in Zelenogorsk, about 60km to Saint Petersburg as its camp base. The Super Eagles open their campaign in Russia with a clash with Croatia in Kaliningrad.

Croatia, five times World Cup campaigners, revealed their camp base on their authenticated twitter handle.

Sports Village Square has gathered from a news source in Croatia, Total-Croatia-News, that the choice of Forest Rhapsody Resort is informed by the vastness of Russia where teams will have to travel long distances from one match venue to the other.

The camp base chosen is in the Northern part of Russia as two of Croatia’s three group matches will be played in the North.

After the first match with Nigeria at Kaliningrad, which is an exclave between Poland and Lithuania, Croatia will have to travel 1,684.9 km to Nizhmny Novgorod to face Argentina. By road, the journey is about 22 hours.

From there to Rostove-on-Don, the venue for the third match with Iceland is another 61 hour drive. The Croatian team reasoned that from their Camp Base to St Petersburg is a 50 minute bus drive from where the team can catch flights for their encounters with Nigeria and Argentina in about an hour 20 minutes.

Ilechukwu: MFM Not Scared Of CAF Champions League Opponents

Peter Oriaku

By Adeboye Amosu:

MFM FC head coach Fidelis Ilechukwu has backed his team to have a good outing in the CAF Champions League despite having to face tough opponents in the preliminary and first rounds, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The Olukoya Boys who finished second in the Nigeria Professional Football League last season will compete in the competition for the first time.

The Lagos club will come up against Malian side Real Bamako in their first ever game in the CAF Champions League and should they scale through that hurdle, then they could face Algerian club MC Alger in the first round should the North Africans beat AC Atoho of Congo in their preliminary round fixture.

However, despite the enormity of the task before his team, the young coach is refusing to lose sleep and is confident they will go far in the competition.

“You don’t play football on the pages of newspapers. Nobody gave us the chance to do what we did in the league last season and we will carry that same spirit into the Champions League,” Ilechukwu told Completesportsnigeria.com here in Kano where MFM are participating in the NPFL Invitational along with five other teams.

“Our opponents are more experienced than us having played on the continent for a number of years, but we are not concerned about that.

“What is important is also having the determination to play and beat them. We have quality too and I see no reason why we should be afraid of them.”

MFM FC will travel to Bamako to face their opponents on February 9 and host the return fixture on February 18.

ROHR: MY AIM IS TO WIN 2019 AFCON WITH NIGERIA

Nigeria's head coach, German Gernot Rohr reacts, during the FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifying soccer match between Algeria and Nigeria at Chahid-Hamlaoui stadium in Constantine, Algeria, 10 November 2017.

by Austin Ditlhobolo

Tuesday Dec 12, 2017.

Nigeria head coach Gernot Rohr says he wants to win the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) title in Cameroon after extending his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for two more years.

The Super Eagles have won the tournament three times, but they missed out on the 2015 and 2017 editions.

They are trailing leaders Libya and South Africa by three points in Group E of the 2019 AFCON qualifier.

''The verbal agreement was reinforced by an official handshake,'' said Rohr to football365.fr.

''We met in Moscow with representatives of the executive committee of the Federation. We agreed on a two-year extension.

''I thank my leaders for this trust. Beyond the World Cup, the goal is AFCON 2019. We want to come back and win.''

The last time Nigeria won the continental tournament was in 2013. They defeated Burkina Faso in the final which was played in Johannesburg, South Africa.

GERNOT ROHR NOT GIVING UP ON VINCENT ENYEAMA

Vincent Enyeama

by Graeme Jackson

Monday Dec 11, 2017.

Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr still wants to have Vincent Enyeama in his 2018 FIFA World Cup squad and has opened the doors for the experienced goalkeeper.

Media reports suggest that the former Super Eagles skipper, who announced his retirement from international football in October 2015, had ruled out a return.

However, Rohr says Enyeama could earn a recall as he faces a goalkeeper crisis after first choice Carl Ikeme was diagnosed with leukemia.

"Coach Rohr had a productive chat with Enyeama and made it clear that he should focus on getting fit and enjoy a playing run," team spokesperson Toyin Ibitoye told BBC Sport.

"Contrary to local media reports, the professional talks between both of them remains unchanged, there are conditions involved and as long as it's adhered to, Enyeama stands a World Cup chance."

The BBC reports that Daniel Akpeyi has failed to impress and his replacement Ikechukwu Ezenwa lacks composure, while young Francis Uzoho is inexperienced.

"It's very important to respect those who are currently with the team. The likes of Akpeyi, Ezenwa, Alampasu, Uzoho and Ajiboye all need the support of our fans," Ibitoye added.

"Coach Rohr insists we should not let the talk of Enyeama deprive others of their deserved respect. With these goalkeepers and Carl Ikeme we achieved World Cup qualification.

"We appreciate what Enyeama has done in the past and he also needs our support right now. His experience is good for the country and only coach Rohr has to make the final call when the time comes."

AMBASSADOR HOPES FOR NIGERIA, RUSSIA WORLD CUP FINAL
2days back

www.nairaland.com/attachments/6409751_amajuandrussianambassador858x445_jpega914e5ddbf92383873de81ecf427fc48

The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Nigeria, Nikolay Udovichenko dreams of Russia –Nigeria clash in the final match of the 2018 FIFA World Cup at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on Sunday, July 15 2018.

According to a media release from the Media Department of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the ambassador on Tuesday stated: “I want to congratulate the NFF and the Super Eagles for Nigeria’s qualification for the FIFA World Cup.

“Please be assured that the Russian Federation is fully ready to host the competition. We have received a lot of requests from the host cities on what special characteristics the Nigerian team have. They want to be fully prepared in all aspects to receive the Super Eagles.

“From the depth of my heart, I am hoping that your team makes it to the final in Moscow on 15th July, to play against Russia.”

Udovichenko spoke on Tuesday afternoon as he received a delegation from the Nigeria Football Federation, led by its President, Amaju Melvin Pinnick.

Pinnick thanked the Ambassador for his good wishes, while noting that Nigeria’s first feel of Russian soil ahead of the FIFA World Cup ended in a sweet victory over Argentina in a friendly match in Krasnodar.

“We helped you to beat Argentina because they had beaten your team in another friendly a few days earlier.

“We have good relationship with the Russian Football Federation, and we desire to establish good relationship with your embassy here so that ourselves and other Nigerians going to the FIFA World Cup will have no problems with regards to entry visa.”

Pinnick stated that the NFF has come forward this early to parley with the embassy because the football body is keen to have all visa applications treated and dispensed with latest end of April 2018.

Consul of the Embassy, Diuitri explained that football fans wishing to be at the FIFA World Cup finals in 2018 must have their match tickets and Fan ID, “which will enable them to travel round Russia during the finals at no extra cost.”

Also at the meeting were Dr. Mohammed Sanusi (NFF General Secretary), Ivan Lydkin (attaché), Ademola Olajire (Director of Communications), Tunde Aderibigbe (Head of Protocol), Calistus Ebare (Pinnick’s media aide) and Ayo Olu Ibidapo (NFF Communications Department).

SUPER EAGLES ARE AWFUL, REMARKS LIONEL MESSI

www.nairaland.com/attachments/6409701_messi1_jpegdf80ad47d4ee9d58653afe00b650e93a

BY KUNLE SOLAJA.

Argentina’s captain, Lionel Messi has analysed each of his team’s Russia 2018 opponents in a sentence, giving the Super Eagles, the least regards in what appears a building up mind games.

If his comments are anything to go by, the Nigerian goalkeeper will have to pick the ball from his net many times when the Super Eagles face Argentina on June 26 at Russia 2018.

In an interview with FIFA online, the prolific striker summed each of Argentina’s Group D opponents in a phrase. Sports Village Square feels the iconic player believes that the Super Eagles are the least of headache for his team.

On the Super Eagles, Messi remarked: “Nigeria: “one day they score four goals, the next one, they leave plenty of space for you to do anything”. This differs sharply from his views on Iceland, the World Cup debutants and the smallest country ever to qualify for the global tournament.

This is Messi’s views on Iceland: “Might seem easy, but they are tough and well organised”. Croatia, the team that placed third in their World Cup debut 19 years ago is rated thus by Messi: “they give you more room to playbut have great players”.

Messi’s views on Nigeria compares very well with that his fellow star player of the Argentine side, Sergio Aguero who saw Nigeria’s 4-2 win last month as mere fluke occasioned by his absence in the second half and the fears his teammates were having for him while he was rushed to the hospital having collapsed in the dressing room at half time.

While Nigeria had a relatively easy passage to the World Cup despite being in a qualifying group of death in Africa, Argentina had a patchy path and traumatic campaign had had to depend on last gasp of breath and effort from Messi to secure qualification.

After Argentina qualified for Russia 2018, Coach Jorge Sampaoli remarked that football owed Messi a World Cup, and the Argentine captain believed so too, saying, “I hope football pays its debt to me”
