TRAGEDY! TRAGEDY!! TRAGEDY!!!

On this day, 15th June, 1991, exactly 29 years, ago, at the Dan Anyam Stadium, Owerri this tragedy occurred!

During a First Division Professional League match between Iwuanyanwu Nationale and visiting BCC Lions of Gboko, the defending Champions of African Cup of Winners’ Cup.

Moses Kpakor, Captain of BCC Lions had his right lower limb broken and taken out of the field on a stretcher, in a tension-soaked match that had an early minute goal by BCC’s Amaechi Ottiji disallowed, and BCC Lions youth international, John Agum red-carded.

All these incidents happened within the first five minutes of the game - it was really a tension-soaked match that Nationale players had to win to be left off the hook of half salary placed on then. Since BCC Lions was one of the few teams in the country at the time to be beaten to justify a team’s improvement.

Sadly, the local league lost one of her most glamorous and imaginative footballer at the time, as Moses Kpakor was rumoured to be permanently retired from the beautiful game by the injury. More sadly, Kpakor was on the verge of joining Dutch giants, Feyenoord in three weeks time before the tragedy struck Super Eagles police man.

Today, Kpakor accepts the tragedy as his fate and has concluded that all has become history, and he is grateful to the defunct Benue Cement Company (PLC), for his treating in London, and grateful to the crazy soccer loving people of Gboko and Benue state in general, his fellow professionals, as well as his well-wishers around the country for their support during the trying moment which greatly inspired his return to football much earlier that was expected.

The ex-Eagles midfield star stated that, it is why even after 29 years that your collective support still lingers in my mind, and I want to once again say to all of you that I still appreciate your collective support. Thank you all, and God bless you too.

“I’m really happy to see that Odion Ighalo is settling in well,” Berbatov wrote for Betfair, “and he deserves it with the way he is playing, how he links the plays and the goals he is scoring.

“All the team are happy when he scores which shows he is fully integrated, and I like the way he looks for the ball and bullies the defenders.

“I’ll be honest, I didn’t know too much about him before he joined, obviously I knew about his record in the Premier League, but I questioned if he was the right man and if he would get into the team, but so far he is doing well and proving me wrong.

“When you need to play more direct in a game you need a presence in the box, a guy who knows how to get onto the end of a ball, bully the defenders and win the ball.

“Ighalo can do that, but he can also play, is technically good as well, he can keep the ball and give it to his team-mates and get into the box, that’s why I like him.

“He doesn’t just stay in the box and try to head the ball. He is linking really well with others and that shows in the team performances when he is involved.”

hooha:
Today you hear of bridal shower, lovely wedding, wedding in Dubai, men in Black, she is my queen, he is my hero, bla bla bla. Then tomorrow, you hear of divorce: she is a devil, he is a dog, he is a wife beater, she is a beast, I didn't know she was a witch, I didn't know he has STD, bla bla bla bla. That is why you really need to do a proper check before you marry. In those days where many people were good, you could easily pick a guy or a lady, and marriage will work out. But today that is filled with hypocrisy, you ought to be careful.

I will show you things that you mustn't skip before you marry your fiance or fiancee.

(1) Test of Love: Until you love and get loved, and until the love begins to flow without energy, before you can say you are good to go. If you still put pressure trying to impress your partner to love you, please pause first. Something is wrong somewhere. But when the love flows sweatlessly and selflessly, then you may proceed to marry.

(2) Test of Fidelity: Some people love, but they are promiscuous. But promiscuity is not a characteristics of true love. So if your partner is a promiscuous cheat, pause the wedding. You can take the person for spiritual rehabilitation or deliverance before you proceed with wedding.

(3) Test of Time: Everything, no matter how sweet, palatable and enticing it may look like, can only be validated with time. So no matter how you love your partner or how your partner wishes to marry you, give it the test of time. Give it time to see if whatever you feel or whatever is shown is real. As they normally say "time will tell".

(4) Test of Peace: No matter the sweetness of any relationship, if there is an internal tension of the mind, please go back to God to ask questions. Until you have true and persistent peace, don't marry that person. When the peace is sure, go and marry.

(5) Test of Availability: Whoever tells you there is time for love and time for serious business is not a good partner for you. Love has no schedule! Until you have much access to enjoying your partners availability, don't marry. When I talk about availability here, I don't mean that your partner may not be in situations were you cannot access each other, but even when such situations come, you will still see the urge to be together; not that he or she will be operating an intentional love on schedule.

(6) Test of Tolerance: Until your imperfections are swallowed and until you are able to swallow the imperfections of your partner, don't marry yet.. It is good to have a large heart, but if you find it so difficult to take some things from your partner, do not marry yet until you are able to take it. Marriage is a very long journey.

(7) Medical Test: Don't assume your partner is good and you trust yourselves. Seek necessary medical tests before marriage.

May God help you to have a successful marriage with a God-fearing person.

2019 CAF U23 AFCON: Esperance’s Atavti Eager To Learn

By Tunde Liadi

Esperance of Tunisia defender, Samuel Pila Atavti has expressed his desire to give his best in the camp of the Under 23 team after his arrival for the team’s build up to the 2019 CAF U23 AFCON slated for Egypt.

Atavti

Atavti was discovered from a kickabout tournament in Gboko, Benue State two years ago organized by a former U20 international defender of Union Sportive Monastir also in the Tunisian league, Moses Orkuma.

He put the tournament in place to scout any of his kinsmen who is endowed with football skills for his former team, Stade Gabesien and it was there the outstanding Atavti was snapped up.

Atavti signed a five-year contract with Stade Gabesien after he impressed while on trials with them after his outstanding performance in the tournament organised in Gboko and he rose through the rank to become a regular player in his first and only season with them.

He had to change club at the end of last season after Stade Gabesien were relegated to the lower league and it was a career-changing opportunity when Esperance came calling for him at the start of the current campaign.

The defender told SportingLife.ng that he is eager to make his invitation count.

“It was just like a whirlwind and I am grateful to God for it when I got a call from coach Imama
Amapakabor that I am needed in the camp and that I must start coming immediately,” Atavti told SportingLife.ng.

“I am in camp now and doing my best. I hope my story will inspire others to pursue their dream and not relent until they succeed. I promise to give my best while leaving the rest to God.”

Chukwueze can become world-class player —Zidane

Samuel Chukwueze.

Real Madrid coach, Zinedine Zidane, has said that Nigeria international, Samuel Chukwueze, has the potential to be among the best players in the world.

Youngster Chukwueze, who features for Villarreal in the Spanish LaLiga Santander, shone with the Super Eagles at the just-ended Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt, where the three-time African champions placed third.

Speaking to Tribunesport in New York recently, Zidane said Chukwueze would be one of the world’s best players in the future.

The former World Footballer of the Year who spoke to Tribunesport at the Adidas Store on 5th Avenue, Soho Square, New York last Thursday, spoke through an interpreter.

“Chukwueze plays like Arjen Robben,” the former Real Madrid of Spain player said. However, for Chukwueze to fully grow into the mould of Robben with as much success as the Dutch player attracted, ‘Zizou’ advises that the player must not lose focus on certain qualities.

“He must be focused, disciplined, and dedicated,” Zidane said.

Zidane also spoke on the AFCON which took place for the first time this summer. According to him, this will allow players who play in the European leagues to be more focused, unlike when it was being held between January and February, when leagues in Europe will be in thick of action.

Meanwhile following Chukwueze’s stellar performance at the 2019 AFCON, Villarreal have placed €65million on the player. But English Premiership side Liverpool are worried over this development.

The European champions had been in talks with Villarreal for the services of Chukwueze before the Egypt 2019 tournament with a lower prize tag placed on the player then.

Tribunesport understands that Michael Edwards, Liverpool Sporting Director, is however hopeful that they can still beat down the amount Villarreal are demanding.

We are going too far by putting Qatar 2022 first in that title. That is not our next event.

Every thread we have opened follows a sequence so why break that?

We are already in a new dawn with Mikel and Ighalo making way. A new breed arises... A new era is born. And their next assignment is the Afcon 2021 qualifiers and the U-23 Afcon (after the final round qualifiers games coming up soon).
After that comes Tokyo 2020 even before Afcon 2021.... So Qatar 2022 should not be first. So I dont agree that the title is okay.

It should follow a sequence.

"The Super Eagles Thread: The Dawn Of A New Era and Roads to Afcon 2021, Tokyo 2020 & Qatar 2022"

Give it sequential focus. That is what I ask.

Cc Terzurum5, Orkpekyandega

One last thing, I repeat that the U-20 thread went dormant because no one was posting news and updates there. I was caught up in a lot of engagements that took me away for over six months and no one else took up the gauntlet. So why won't it go dormant?

The U-17 thread is still relevant because we have an U-17 WC coming up and fortunately I am back now. And I would rather post U-17 news there than here. So whosoever wanna discuss it here can do so but I won't derail and that is why I rather go to that thread.
When no one is ready to update a thread, it goes dormant naturally and yes it was the decision of the house to create both the U-20 and U-17 threads... So If it goes dormant, then it is on all of us. I was absent and no one else cared to post news. Chikena.

Sequential focus given to the title of the thread.

Please confirm.

Biko .... Who removed "The Dawn of a New Era"?

Adding Afcon 2021 and Qatar 2022 does not cancel out the new era's dawn na... Why take it out?

Mikel and Ighalo just retired.... Ogu will follow. We have the rise of Samu, Osimhen, Okereke and co to build on in addition to a fine young bunch of the Super Eagles core.... This team transition really matches the Dawn of a new era caption.... Please add it back! Thanks!

Also I hope you know we would need to have an Olympics 2020 thread.
