rationalmind: The individual might not have been there. He could even had died prior to that time.(His death would had been a greater good). He could have had a little illness before then.

Just giving you a list of possibilities God could had done prior to that event. If he can't save his own people who came to worship him despite having the power to do so, he doesn't deserve worship. This is what I expect you to see.
You expect me to see your point of view, yet you won't even consider mine a remote possibility. Just because it can't be seen or touched, doesn't mean something doesn't exist.

rationalmind: They not only believe it, they try to rationalise it. That's what surprises me the most. Is this incidence not sufficient to open their eyes? No. The person that shouted is at fault, God has better plans, God is good all the time.
Of course this individual is. Any rational person would have to come to this conclusion. Unless, of course they have a irrational predilection to thrashing Christians for their belief in a God.

plaetton: Everything is man's fault. shocked, and yet christians, including the unfortunate dead, believed that god was the pilot of their fortunes. Do you see the contradiction?

Always a copout for god.
How convenient. undecided
Covered this above.

plaetton: Now imagine if something good or very beneficial had come out of that night vigil for some or all the attendees.
Everyone, including you, madam, would be singing praises to god. Not so?
Well something good did come out of it for some of them. They are alive. They survived a terrible tragedy caused by some irresponsible individual. More than likely a youth, who thought it would be funny, and as youths often do, did not think about the consequences. How is this the fault of the church or it's leaders?

God seems to be the most slippery escape artist ever known. cry

^^^Somehow missed this part in quoting. Sorry.

plaetton: He sneaks in to take credit for the good fortunes, and always sneaks out in times of bad fortunes. embarassed

In case, you all missed my point on this thread, let me ask it again?
Again, addressed this previously.

plaetton: 1. What are sane people, including children and infants, doing in the middle of the night instead of a healthy good night's sleep?
What are they looking for in the night that they could not have found in the daytime?
I will be honest here. I have never been to a night vigil. I can not answer this one.

plaetton: 2. All this magical thinking relating to prayers and vigils, haven't we done enough of prayers and vigils to able to look back now to see if there are any benefits at all for the previous efforts?
This is inaccurate. Prayer does have benefits. You would call it coincidence, if I cited examples, so I won't bother. Suffice it to say,
that it is faith that makes it happen, but that is a useless concept to you.

plaetton: 3. Again, regarding this magical thinking, if they were to worship a god whom they believed to be present, why didn't god forsee and prevent the tragedy from happening?
Where is the miracle? Where is the magic that is expected from magical thinking?
I answered this in previous posts. I will not repeat myself.

plaetton: 4. Who is going to hold the organizers responsible?
I hope no one. It is not their fault.

plaetton: 5. Any lessons learnt?
Answer: No. We are way toooo dumb to learn any lessons.]
I hope they will have fire drills at the beginning of any future vigils. Perhaps they could do like airlines before a flight. Explain where the exits are, and give an exit strategy before each vigil.

plaetton: If we have "free agency", then why do people spend a disproportionate amount of their lives praying, supplicating and worshiping a skygod to intervene in their lives for better fortunes?

If man truly have "free agency" then religion should stand redundant and superfluous.
Humans should be seen as the masters of their destiny.
This is something I have emphasized so much.
Do you agree?
To an extent. I'm sure nowhere near where you would be comfortable. I am working on your last post. I will get back to this one.

Ok. Wait. Modify:

I stepped away for a moment. There have been many posts. Let me catch up.

Christianity EtcRe: Anambra Tragedy: God And Our Gross National Lunacy by texanomaly(f): 4:57pm On Nov 06, 2013
I said this in a previous thread:

One of Gods greatest gifts, aside from the Atonement, is “Free Agency.” We all have it. Unfortunately, we have no control over others, who may impose their agency on us. The influence of others in our lives and the lives of those we love is not God’s acquiescence (acceptance). It is simply His respect for the gift He has given us.

Didn't someone yell "fire"? This person is at fault. Not the organizers. It is the fault of this miscreant(s). Is it not?

rationalmind: @ the bolded. Is your God this dumb?

He punished sin from the begining, mankind refused to walk with him yet he will punish sin again by sending sinners to hell. Does he not learn from his mistakes that punishing sinners does not work? If he failed before, he'll most likely fail again.
It is because you don't understand the Atonement, that you say these things. With all your knowledge, you choose to use it to make fun of others beliefs. There are many people in my group of friends that were once Christian, and are now agnostic or atheists. They tell me they are too intelligent to believe such irrational mumbo jumbo. They mock what they once believed so fervently. I love them. They are my friends. I will never turn my back on them. Or ever give up on them. My heart is broken for them. I do not mock their disbelief. They know where I stand and allow me that right.

I have always found it difficult to reconcile though. The nonbeliever that has become so intelligent, so much smarter than I, yet he will mock another's belief. Mock, as in make fun of, like an adolescent might do. There are some here who are very respectful and use there rationale to their advantage. There are others, however, that show their true ignorance, in spite of their intelligence.

bolaino: yes it is, skeeter really loves God, I know that about him, but because he is too intelligent the devil is trying to make him feel asif his intelligence is of his own making. But the lord has assured me that he is going to visit him soon, it is well with you sister, thanks for all your kind words over the months, you never condemned me once, and I am very grateful, may the good lord give you the strength and grace to serve him,

Calling someone foolish for something you cannot convincingly prove is the height of foolishness

I do agree that one should not call another foolish for their beliefs, or unbeliefs for that matter. It is not productive.

FamilyRe: Dating A Man Who Has Kids Wiv Another Woman by texanomaly(f): 10:34pm On Nov 04, 2013
Your friend needs to consider how she is feeling now in regard to the relationship the man has with the mother of his children. These children are his blood. They are his responsibility. Weather she likes it or not, this woman will be in his life from now on. Even after the kids are grown. There will be graduations, birthdays, weddings, grandchildren, and any number of other things that may come up. If she is uncomfortable with his relationship with the mother, it will only get worse as the relationship continues. If she is going to stay with this man, she needs to come to terms with the fact that this woman will be a part of his life, and understand that she has a right to be. The children have a mother and a father. If she wants the relationship to work, she will need to accept that he will have to deal with the mother of his children whether she likes it or not. If she can not, it would be better for all involved to walk away.

Can I be a judge? I can be fair and impartial. I am good at listening to all points of view, and am not quick to judgement. I believe in all having the right to their opinions and beliefs.
