The Nigerian in my title is in the spirit. But he will also be making it in Nigeria and is already employing people.

The guy who wrote that blog post is not Mr. ekekwe. Did you even read through what you posted?
He knows the product more than a layman would. Unfortunately for him, I'm not a layman. And you don't have to get all defensive smiley

Also, those tablets will not be built in Nigeria. They'll just be rebranded here and sold.

Seriously you guys baffle me. No service provider not even dstv nigeria has started a public wi-fi hotspot service in Nigeria and you guys are already getting the apps on your Pcs. Even if you get the device how do u think its possible to relay dvb via wi-fi without a service provider? This is unlike the su-33 receiver which transmits dvb via bluetooth to your handheld courtesy of your cellular network's ipdc data. This service is currently exclusive to dstvmobile south africa in four cities. And it on supports pcs iphones, ipads and itouchs running the latest 4.xx firmwares.
Dstvmobile Nigeria is still lacking behind. Imagine only promoting Nokia 5330 via mtn when there's dvb-h for various high-end mobiles.
Lets keep our fingers crossed.
This has been explained just recently. You really need to learn how to read properly.
PS: please name the other high-end mobiles available with dvb-h.

deenawe:
wait, please someone should reply me; since the c3 has w/lan, wont it support the dvb-h devicehuh Since the device recieves the signals independently, :/huh
It should. However, The app will only be available for symbian 3 devices.

aieromon:
Multichoice haven't told us whether the rates will be the same as dstvmobile. The device will be a hit,i can even open a small viewing centre with it(i trust them to block all loopholes, though)
I've seen reports that you can only connect one device to the drifta at a time. Also, with a resolution of 320 x 240, your viewing centre is sure to become very unpopular.

Today, using instances of superior achievements, I am ready to send the bigot fstranger AKA stranger AKA strangerf to an early grave. RIP, nincompoop.
That's an Android Tablet, not a 'Tablet PC'. There's a huge difference.
Secondly, there's nothing really 'Nigerian' about this; from the screenshots I saw, it looks just like a rebadged version of a generic Android tablet that's been rebadged by many other companies such a viewsonic.
I'm somewhat apprehensive of the resolution (only 800 x 480) and the possibility that the tablet will employ a resistive screen to minimize cost.
The guy who wrote that 'goarit' blog in the link you provided should be ashamed of himself. I cringed when I read his description of the device.
If they can keep the price Dow

The device isnt ok if it runs on WIFI, some wifi signal in nigeria dey locked and u need their passcode, the one in my office isnt locked but i no dey sleep their, once i move out of wifi range the signal dissapears, lets find out hw this device works, if the device receives DBV-H signal and passes it to a mobile phone,pc,blackberry, etc through wifi, then its good but not all phones are WIFI compatible e.g. 5530,N73,5230,5320,6760 . And if the device receives DBV-H signal via WIFI, the its not for us becos not every phone has WIFI and WIFI is not every where in nigeria
1. The device broadcasts its own WiFi.
2. If your smartphone doesn't have WiFi in this day and age, get rid of it.

i've been following up on this Drifta device for a while now (since November). It's finally launched in South Africa. For now, the only devices it can officially be used on are iOS devices (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad) and Laptops. Symbian Rev 3 and Blackberry clients are supposedly on the way soon.
i've already downloaded the iPhone app from the AppStore, can't use it unless you have the device. If there's anyone who can help me snag one from South Africa, i wouldn't mind.

I've since found out one important info Multichoice has been hiding; their 'Drifta' device is just a rebadged Valups Tivit Mobile TV device

http://www.valups.com/eng/tivit/dvbh.htm

Blackberry and Symbian clients already exists for this vanilla model.

Mr. Iphone defender/Captain Iphone, Apple ain't setting no pace, the game is ova for the Iphone, wake up,
abt the big screen thingy, I bet Apple is gonna go for a big screen in their next Iphone model, they know they have no choice but to copy HTC'S style of screen tongue (BIG SCREEN THT IS) its fact, people always prefer my SGS to my Iphone when they see the 2, I know the Iphone can be tempting when seen on the PC, but when u see it in reality grin grin grin ;Dthis phone ain't ntn but glass lol (atleast to me), real tlk, this is fact my man,
BTW, here's ma Iphone 4, like I said if u interested come take it, 1,100Gh cedis only wink
There were bigger screens even before HTC started churning out their 4-inchers. Not sure why you're crediting that to HTC. And as i've said before, you assume people always want huge screens. There's a reason why the iPhone 4 with its 3.5 inch screen is outselling every other smartphone in the US and in Europe.
Even in Europe, the iPhone 4 is outselling the Nokia N8 (which has a larger screen).

The iPhone 4 looks and feels even better in person, and is a much more 'premium' feeling device than the plasticky Galaxy S. Sorry, but it's true.

I'm not gonna be able to buy your iphone unless 1) it's below 100K naira 2) it's in Nigeria grin

No, they do not. Driving a car is a privilege, not a right. Will these same market women and teachers contribute money to ameliorate the negative environmental impact of their crap cars? Or contribute money for the excess wear and tear on the roads? Roads and the environment are not free. Everything has a price. Why should someone else be paying the price for them to enjoy?

If you cannot afford to buy a 10 year old car, then maybe you shouldn't be driving.

In any case, you are allowed to buy 10+ year old cars. But you should buy them from existing people within Nigeria, not importing it from outside the country.

We want to reduce the number of low-quality cars in the country, not increase it.
Yes, roads and the environment are not free. Do these teachers and market women not pay taxes too?
Your assumption that these people do not contribute anything in the way of taxes is rather silly.

The average cost of a 10 year old car will hover around a million naira. There are a HUGE number of Nigerians who will benefit from owning cars that cannot afford one. Your stance is that if they cannot afford to buy these vehicles, they should not drive. Whenever these people go on strike to tell their employers that if they cannot afford to pay them humane wages, they should go without their services, people like you are the first to castigate them for abdicating their responsibilities.

I'm confused about one thing. You've been talking about how Android is really 'open' and that you get all the freedom you need on the platform. @femzy thanks for your comments, thank God this is free market and the other poster is obviously free to charge what he likes, we don't have some sort of cartel here.

Our phones are 'factory unlocked' and sealed also very scarce, they cost over $1000 dollars each when bought direct from Apple, which is where we get our phones. I do not for one minute doubt the intergrity or providence of the other poster's phone, but anyone selling an iPhone 4 for less than cost price will have their reasons (maybe they just don't want the phone, it was gift or any other genuine reason)

But we are a bonafide business and we have to to pay our staff and other overheads so we put a small profit on anything will sell, is that too bad?

Actually, I think I will contact the poster, if a I buy an iPhone 4 for N120k I can easily sell it in UK for £630,
iPhone 4 16GB is £499 in the UK, officially unlocked from the Apple Store. And there's no more scarcity in supply these days, you walk in and walk out with one. You don't have to lie to sell stuff.
