zenus:So we're changing the goal posts now abi? Google maps is of extremely limited utility in Nigeria. Not nearly the equal of Nokia's Ovi maps. When Garmin's map application comes to iOS in Q1 2011, the iPhone will be far better for Navigation in Nigeria than any Android device. zenus:The iPhone 4 has better hardware specs than the N8. Both utilize the same touchscreen-only control scheme for games. Troll harder. Anyway, i'll say 'No thanks' to your offer. I'll be busy playing Asphalt 6 and FIFA 11, both of which are better than Asphalt 5 and Real Football 2011 on Ovi and Android platform. And both of which are only available on iOS. Since you can't experience it on your crappy N8, here's a screenshot of Asphalt 6. Drool. https://a1.phobos.apple.com/us/r30/Purple/58/ed/66/mzl.dmmqxjuz.320x480-75.jpg please accept my sympathies. |
zoraro:Wrong. |
tumababa:All released iPad OS versions can be jailbroken. |

See the kind of misinformation these people spread?
I like de flexibility of Android because you have more freedom like installing, copying, moving and managing files in it. With this you can even copy a document edit it with your phone and send it over the net. Does iphone does this?
Yes. Easily.
What i like in iphones is gaming environment (which a rejected OS like symbian ^3 has)
Wrong. Comparing the gaming scene on iPhone to Android or even Symbian rev 3 is just silly. Apple blows both Android and Symbian out of the water in that regard, don't even go there.
other than basic function of daily life like downloading your zip files and extract and still use them.
iFile from the Cydia store does this. And it's free. troll harder
More over with android, you have freedom and using offline map without going online which iphone cannot do.
Most Navigation apps on iPhone has the maps stored locally. Why the FUD? zenus01:So convert them to mp4. Or download several apps from the appstore than can play avi, rm, flv, mkv files natively on the iPhone. Not to mention several others on Cydia. zenus01:use the standard USB cable. Use Dropbox. What's the big deal? Ever since i started using my first iPhone in 2007, i've had a HTC Tytn II, Nokia E71, Bold 9700. Each of these has a MicroSD card slot. I've NEVER removed my SD card, stuck it into a card reader and copied files. That's lame. zenus01:Nope. It's just like the Android market, just with more apps and more fun stuff ![]() |
link=topic=572625.msg7385095#msg7385095 date=1292975991] Recently, I changed my cell phone. I got rid of my BlackBerry Bold 2 (9700) and upgraded to the Bold 4 (9780). I can't say I'm impressed with RIM as they were very minimal changes. Besides the new operating system (OS6) which I was already running on the 9700, it's got a 5MP camera compared to the 3.2 on the Bold 2 and more application/processing memory. It really feels like I haven't changed phones using it as all my 9700 accessories still work and it feels the same in my hands, lol. Unless you want to run an official version of OS6, you might as well just use one of the many leaks on your 9700 and await something better from RIM. -[n3rve]
I can't fathom why you wasted your money on that 'upgrade'. Someone as tech savvy as yourself should have been aware of the merely cosmetic changes RIM has been making to their phones. Don't you read reviews? OS6 is merely lipstick on a pig. BBs are good phones but crappy smartphones. |
Mariory:And my point was that taking a head count is no way to decide what phone to buy. newmi:Well, the Galaxy S is cheaper ![]() |
Sunsamthy:This has to be a nominee for brainless comment of the year. |
zenus:Add a general poll on Nairaland and you'll see Nokia phones beating Android and iPhone hands down. Take an opinion poll in most Universities these days and you'd see even crappy Blackberry beating Android and iPhone hands down (thanks to BBM) What's your point? |
Gbawe:Sadly, Nuhu Ribadu is no better than those clowns. Plus, he has very little chance of winning. |
banom:So you're taking the coward's way out, attacking him (and his mother!) instead of attempting to logically tackle his points. Shame, really. |
Good development. Imagine these barbarians carrying off all the computers in the cafe and arresting the owner without a warrant! |
Mariory:Anytime i see these web comics, i smile. Lots of FUD being spread around. For what it's worth, you can also choose to develop your apps with either the official SDK, or develop for Cydia. Also, any app that's simple enough to develop with AppInventor probably already exists in the Market ![]() |
lynxnoon:When someone says 'I forget the name, E90 perhaps?', why would you take the handset name as gospel truth?
I think you are talking about the E7
Yep, that's it.
Thanks guys i guess both the E72 and E5 with LED flash (the phonetorch software can also be installed just in case) and 5MP will do (just hope they'll be as god as Sony Ericsson's 3.5 MP). And i guess the soon coming E7 with 8 MP should be a step higher.
Wait for the E7. Give my regards to chxta ![]() |
This topic is cursed! ![]() As soon as i post something long, i get banned by the spambot. nateevs:I replied your post, but the spambot ate it. You'll see it in my profile. |
nateevs:I amended my earlier statement to say the carrier AND the manufacturer. If Dell and your carrier hadn't chosen to push FroYo to your Streak, you'd still be stuck on Android 2.1, despite the fact that FroYo has been out for many many months. As it is, you aren't even guaranteed a Gingerbread update for your Streak, despite the fact that a) it was released in 2010 b) It's hardware specs are top notch if that isn't a restriction, i wonder what is. nateevs:I mentioned WiFi tethering. I'm not sure how you interpreted that as 'bluetooth tethering'. They aren't even close. Strange. However, 90% of iPhone 4s in Nigeria are already jailbroken. If you head to Cydia and install MyWi, you turn your iPhone to a mobile hotspot. That was you share your data plan across multiple devices. So what's the difference? The iPhone 4 not having expandable storage CAN be a deciding factor if you really need to carry around large amounts of data. But to be honest, being a 'power user' doesn't mean you have to be a pack rat. if you've got a tablet like me (and i see you have one of those nasty Archos tablets), why would you pack that much large video files in your primary phone when there's an option to store and consume them on a bigger screen? I also think you're exaggerating the issue. We both know that most pdfs, kindle ebooks and most epubs come in at a few MB. Plus the Android app market size limit is currently less than 50MB. Even with 60 of such 50MB apps installed, you're taking only 3GB space. Would i trade the iOS just to carry around superfluous music and video that i either don't listen to, or i can consume on another device? No. When you jailbreak your iPhone 4, you get the freedom you folks are always babbling about. Plus you still get to keep the platform with the best apps, games and accessories. There are thousands of iPhone and iPod touch compatible docks, car stereos and other interfaces. You're limited in this regard on the Android platform thanks to fragmentation. Android could very well be the future. but weighing the pros and cons, i'll stick with my iPhone for now. ![]() |
Mariory:I'm not talking about apps. If you don't root your Android phone, you're stuck with whatever Android version the carrier and handset manufacturer decide is best for you. Which is why most users of the Galaxy S and Xperia X10 are still on Android 2.1. The 2.2 rollout has started on the Galaxy S variants, but it isn't ubiquitous yet. Despite the hardware being capable of running FroYo, HTC Magic users are still stuck on the ancient Android 1.6. Unless you root! But if we agree that aftermarket hacking of the phone is accepted in this argument, then we'll have to mention Jailbreaking on the iPhone. And once you Jailbreak your iPhone 4, all your complaints of Apple restrictions no longer apply. In other words, savvy iPhone users don't feel these restrictions you people always talk about. And non-savvy Android users feel some restrictions too. In fact, in some case, pretty severe restrictions. Mariory:You expose your ignorance in these matters. What i've said isn't just mere subjective info, it's the reality on ground. Take the Facebook app for example. The iPhone version is usually a generation ahead. Developers of many top quality apps prefer the AppStore; it's far easier to make a profit from your app on the iTunes AppStore than on Android market. http://mobilewebgo.com/android-developers-find-it-hard-make-money That's why Angry Birds is a paid app on iPhone, and a free app with ads in the Android market. Naturally, the expansions to Angry Birds come to the iPhone first. On average, a company like Gameloft only ports their games over to Android well after the release of the iPhone versions. Mariory:Most submitted apps pass Apple's certification. For those that do not get approved, the Cydia Store is there as a viable appstore alternative for jailbroken iPhones. For example a dev submitted iDOS, a DOS emulator for iPhone/iPad. it was pulled from the AppStore for containing copyrighted material. The same app was released on Cydia as soon as that happened and it has continued to sell well. Apple controls my device? Hyperbole, much? |
Omokemesi:I wonder how many forums you copy and paste your bullcrap on? |
Mariory:In most android phones, if you don't root them, the carrier owns you. Which is why @otumfour is still stuck on Android 2.1 on his galaxy S. Mariory:I'm not sure what you mean by this. the iPhone has more (and better quality) apps than Android, and as soon as you jailbreak it, you have access to lots more apps beyond's Apple's control. You'll have full control of your hardware. |
jabbok:Why won't he keep quiet? So you expect a president who has been denying the concept of zoning to suddenly tell you that he will support zoning in 2015? Were you high when you made this comment? |
2kurupt:I AM objective here. I present arguments based on fact. Anyway, the topic under discussion is actually nonsense. You can't compare Android (OS) to the iPhone (handset). You can only compare top tier Android phones (like the Galaxy S/Nexus S/Droid X) with the iPhone 4. krunch:That's an option, good for those who don't mind carrying an extra device in their pocket. |
otumfour:Keep blabbing about S-AMOLED. U no know say the iPhone 4 has a higher resolution screen, with higher pixel density and higher brightness than your favourite screen? You don't seem too tech savvy. Please read up and do a feature comparison between the iPhone 4 and 3GS. There's a lot of difference. I can't be educating you for free all the time ![]() |
krunch:Most of those Nokia phone have very limited internal storage, with the expansion coming from MicroSD cards. For those phones that don't support SDHC cards, none of them will ever reach the 16GB storage space on the lowest iPhone 4. The larger capacity iPhone 4 comes with 32GB. At the end of the day, it's not about memory cards, it's about mass storage. And at 16GB and 32GB , i don't think the iPhone is necessarily at a disadvantage here. Why did you dodge my question on Wifi tethering? |
The fact that RIM, with over 10 BB models in circulation is struggling to match sales of one iPhone model speaks more of their failure ![]() |
Nigerians! Once someone criticizes your darling, that person becomes a 'hater'! Is that any way to hold a meaningful discussion? All this talk of Yoruba this, igbo this is extremely childish! How old are you people anyway? You all come from a race that was enslaved by the Arabs (Trans-Sahara Slave trade) and then the North Americans (trans-atlantic slave trade), enslaved just because the slave masters thought you were inferior to them. Now in present day Nigeria, people are still out there thinking they are superior to others because they were born into a different tribe? I do not like Akunyili these days. I think she did a sterling job at NAFDAC, but i think the hype following her over this is a bit too much. All she did was do the job she was paid to do, and do it well. Hundreds of thousands of Nigerians do the same thing at their jobs. Her stint as the information minister was ineffective and largely incompetent. That's why i do not support her. Does that make me an Igbo hater? Does that make me Yoruba? I think back at her resignation letter to the FEC where she all but begged for financial assistance. I wonder if the OP is really from Anambra, and if he is, how he feels that his darling Akunyili regards the FEC crooks as her 'immediate constituency', not the good people of Anambra she wants to represent. |
krunch:Which Nokia Symbian smartphone comes with Wifi tethering? Also, 'memory card reading' is not a basic function, sorry. data storage space is. |
texazzapete u just totally crucifed the galazy tab u cant compare d number of apps btw ios and andriod. Android is still new as far as i am concerned. Just give it 2-3 yrs and the numb of apps and games will definitely outnumber that of ios u shld knw that
That will never happen. Anyway, we're consumers, there's no prize for who starts with a platform first. If one platform is deficient in several things, why wait for 2-3 years for it to play catch up? Dual core Android tablets (many with NVIDIA's Tegra 2) are coming out Q1 next year. Anyone who buys the Galaxy Tab right now has to be a dummy. My opinion. |
Harry Potter:I hope not with your tongue? /jk Seriously, though, the OP should be deleted. |
Mkpotu:As an Information minister, she has been incompetent and ineffectual. Her 'Rebranding' project turned out to be a failure and a colossal waste of funds. Her priorities as a Minister were puzzling at best (Imagine this woman telling the Senate that her key achievements were banning District 9 and forcing Sony to apologize). Honesty has never been reason enough to vote someone in. We need someone honest AND competent, someone with an idea of the right priorities. Someone who's supporters will not embark on a face-saving campaign by chanting the silly mantra "round peg in a square hole". We need someone with the integrity to either make the hole round, or to quit if it became clear that he/she is unsuited for that role. Simple as that. |
Alxmyr:Yep, resigned to fuel her thirst for power ![]() |
Haha! These scammers first promised to pay in 2008. Then 2009. Then 2010. Then they promised payment was coming in 2011. Now, they have indefinitely extended their payment period with this 'news' of Mobil 'defaulting' payment and talk of litigation. it's unfortunate that people continue to be fooled by these half-baked scammers. |
@tezzapete plz i really wanna knw wats wrong with xperia x10 cos my ericssion/andriod fan boy friend is planing to buy it
The hardware is ok, but thanks to Sony slapping on their custom skin on Stock Android, the Xperia X10 is far behind the curve when it comes to Android updates. The device shipped only with 1.6, and only moved to 2.1 at the end of October. Good luck waiting for an official 2.2 port, not to mention Gingerbread 2.3 |
