You lead counsel has been in court for years concerning the issue of LTG....he clearly saw this as an opportunity to get back at government See what I mean when I say you’re intellectually challenged? You scoff at the panel for ‘relying on hearsay’, but here you are, insisting that the cases of arson seen in lagos the day after the shooting was carried out by protesters in reprisal for the shooting. Where’s your evidence? By the way, I find it humorous how you’ve finally conceded there was shooting at the tollgate. Sadly, the panel was not constituted to investigate the arson in the day after the shooting. If they were, I’m sure they’d get to the bottom of the curious failure of any serious security agency to respond to widespread arson and looting, in many cases within close vicinity of police stations. Or why - till date - the LASG has not identified any of the arsonists or prosecuted them. I will ignore your desperate rambling about cannibalism. Politics › Re: Zainab Ahmed: We Can't Continue, Nigeria Losing N250bn Monthly On Fuel Subsidy by texazzpete(m): 10:06am On Nov 25, 2021 |
backbencher: We do have subsidy in Nigeria.
Right now it costs N265 and higher to import one liter of fuel into this country...and we sell the same liter at N162-5.
The money paid to NNPC to cover the losses they sustain in importing fuel at N265 and selling it at N162-5 is what we call a subsidy. Before 2016 when everyone with a license from government could import fuel, the money was also paid to importers.
In 2011, we imported fuel at N99 and sold it at N65...by 2015 it was importing it at N132, and selling it at N87, and by 2016/17 , we imported it at N180 and sold it at N145...and every time a subsidy was paid to help offset the resulting losses.
The problem is that the more the cost of that one liter of fuel rises, the more subsidy money we have to pay. So from time to time, government reduces money spent on subsidy and this manifests as a price increase...which is why we are paying N165 for a liter of fuel instead of the N65 we were paying in 2010/11.
If that money was not paid, NNPC would have long since collapsed.
The reason why we cannot build new refineries is because the money gets spent on subsides...and has been for decades...plus because the subsidy regimen does not allow the petroleum industry make enough money in profit, it cannot build or maintain existing refineries easily....so subsides keep on going on
And then the rich beenefit from free subsidy money while the poor benefit from cheap fuel (5th cheapest in the world as at this month). It's not a lack of funds that's stalling out ability to build refineries. Heaven knows this administration has borrowed billions of dollars at this point. Subsidy is a much bigger issue because the state cannot seem to crack down on those who falsify oil importation numbers, and those who smuggle the fuel outside. It's also worsened by the fact that a HUGE portion of our populace uses these imported refined hydrocarbons to power personal generators for power. If the government had lived up to its responsibility and transformatively changed the picture for power generation and distribution, the situation would be a whole lot less grim. We can say all we want about cheap fuel, but our entire society is built on this. The estimation of our minimum wage was based on a world with fuel subsidy. Ditto for food prices, public transportation etc. Taking away fuel subsidy and raising prices while keeping minimum wage the same will cripple families. To put things into perspective, the government wants to: - increase fuel price dramatically. - permit Discos to increase electricity tariffs significantly - expand taxes All while keeping minimum wage the same. And their palliative is to pay N5000 to 'poor people' who may not even exist! |

If you could be bothered to follow the panel proceedings and read the report, you'd see that they called in witnesses and sought testimony from a wide spectrum of folks. How can you now say there was no inquiry? And then you come up with the ludicrous statement that they should enquire about the identity of unidentified persons. Does common sense not tell you that those folks are largely unidentified for good reason? Of course there's a large amount of focus on the Lekki Toll Gate. That's the site of the tragic shooting. Why did you need this explained to you? Have you had tertiary education? I assure you, nobody here is naive enough to think that the Lekki toll gate generates a very significant portion of Tinubu's cash flow, but I thank you for making that statement. oyatz: If you are well read and understand how the court rules you ought to know that in type of case you cited, the prosecution will rely on two vital body of evidence viz;
1) The body/corpse of the victim
2) Autopsy report that the victim actually died from the impacts of the accident.
In the EndSARS panel report, the panel disregarded the Testimonies of the Doctors who treated the victims and the Forensic Pathologist who conducted autopsies on all the bodies based on Science but based their reports on words of mouths of the prostesters which is highly subjective based on perceptions and feelings.
One of their lead witnesses was a video by a guy who said he was assumed to be dead but managed to espcaped and counted 11 'dead bodies' .
Now if he could be assumed to be dead by laymen (non-medics) but he wasn't dead, what gives you the impression that there were others he too assumed to be dead but weren't really dead?
In the midst of shooting that night, some people would even fainted without anything hitting them and some people will assumed that they were dead.
In Accidents & Emergency units of large hospitals, there were many instances that family and friends rush victims in and start crying that they are dead but the medical teams will treat them and they will survive.
Victims at the scenes of the Lekki Toll gates would have been emotionally terrified that they may not be able to reliably identified who was truly dead or not.
Try to view matters disspassionately and stop labelling anyone who scrutinize the reports as 'BMC and those who have been paid by the Government'. And if you had read the report instead of lazily repeating misinformation from your WhatsApp groups, you’d have seen the testimony from a respected, Lagos state forensic pathologist who carried out autopsies of corpses identified as retrieved from the lekki tollgate, reported injuries consistent with gunshot wounds and testified that the corpses could not be identified and were only marked with numbers at the time of examination. But this is par for the course here. |

1) Full names with surnames ,not just writing Jide, Wisdom or Janet.
2) Ages
3) Sex
4) Last known Address
5) Occupation
6) Telephone contacts
With these information, any news organization can carry out further investigations to get their pictures and relatives.
