I see my mavs have started to put the whole nba on notice. I don't want to hear any more slander concerning doncic not being top 5 atm. And I stand by my prediction towards the end of the season. Both the nets and the lakers are not making the finals!!! |
Ah s**t, here we go again. It’s been a pretty rough year for us Nigerians (we can same about every year since this country was formed, but that would be for another day). Hardly a day goes by without there being reports of kidnapping, terrorist attacks, or inter-ethnic clashes. We are in a boiling cauldron that is primed to explode into a full-scale disaster. Where to begin? Who do we blame for our present predicament? It was established before that being a citizen of Nigeria is an automatic handicap. But with a recent rise in the spate of kidnappings, clashes between Fulani herdsmen and every other tribe, and a resurgence of the Islamic militia group, Boko haram, being a Nigerian is better categorized as one of one thousand ways to die. And death, unfortunately, has made a permanent home in our nation today. Last week the airwaves were filled with the story of a young female graduate, who was brutally murdered by a psychopath amid a job hunt. The news brought the nation to its knees (at least online) as various people mobilized themselves via the popular micro-blogging platform, twitter to create a hashtag in search of the missing lady. Eventually, she turned up dead with her murderer now in police custody awaiting arraignment. Her death sparked a lot of emotional reactions with many questioning why Nigeria is hell-bent on stifling the life out of their future. Tracing the educational trajectory of a typical Nigerian student, you will come to understand that getting into a tertiary institution, completing your degree, and getting a slowly becoming-redundant certificate in this county is at a difficulty level akin to the 12 labors of Hercules. On that last day when you are done with your final exam, celebrating with your peers, basking in the moment with no thought of what tomorrow may bring, the country is slowly setting up hindrances and obstacles to crush your dreams. Now another light has been snuffed out by a nation dancing on a powder keg. But why her? Immediately the news of her demise filtered into cyberspace. Everyone came out of their shell to claim their one minute of fame. The self-proclaimed male feminists saw an opportunity to castigate their gender, imploring them to “be better” and “do more”. It is a shame really, if only such a deep and thought-provoking message was passed across to her killer. She would be alive today. Ladies came out en masse to start narrating near kidnapping experiences and how security agencies should place a greater focus on ensuring women are protected. I guess the men can go and seek protection from whatever God they serve. The wannabe-influencers got their best graphic designers to create artworks to mourn her passing. Oh, I’m certain, just a look at that beautifully designed poster with the signature of the designer sticking out like a sore thumb would provide closure for the grief-stricken family members of the lady and help them to move on. The sorosoke generation came out en masse to do what they do best. Soro. Talk. All bark, no bite. With every passing day, you begin to realize if we think we had it tough in the hands of the corrupt leaders who have refused to cede power to the younger generation, the ones coming after them, when they are through, nigeria as we know it would cease to exist. There is no deep thought process for these children. Everything to them is a fad. To “catch cruise” if we are to use their lingo. Three times this year, terrorists have ransacked various secondary schools, and where was your favorite Twitter influencer? Providing in-depth analysis to the silhouette challenge because apparently, raising awareness on the kidnapping of school children is not a cool enough cause that would help put them in trending and if they are lucky, ride the popularity wave to verification. Fulani herdsmen have been running rampage in the south and where was your favorite male feminist? Attending another c-grade nollywood movie launch in Lagos, as it has been established that as long as the violence never reach Lagos, it is not their cross to bear. As at the time of writing, these “bandits”, as they are now called, have ransacked Christian communities in Kaduna, killing multiple persons. What are you hearing from female freedom fighters? *crickets*. After all, since it is churches that were attacked, let God fight for his people while we engage in twitter wars over who has the most toxic fans Tacha or Erica. (If you do not know those two names, trust me, you are not missing anything) So why her? The truth lies inherently in the flawed psyche of the present generation. The combination of herd mentality, a desire for constant validation and wide-seethed ignorance that is prevalent among the current crop of youths, has brought us to this conclusion. People want to be outraged because it makes them feel good about themselves. They pat themselves on the back after retweeting a retweeted tweet. Telling themselves that they are making a difference. They look for the latest trends to hop on only to get likes and online validation. “Oh, you liked the pic of that girl that died, outstanding. You are a good person. You have done your part in making the world a better place. Oh, you saw the quote I posted on my page, mehn that was so deep. You don’t know how many souls you have touched. Thank you for doing your part in making the world a better place“. Then, like all trends, when they fade into obscurity, so do most of those people. Retreating to their caves and various lives where they are just moving through the motions, adding no inherent value to themselves, their families and the society at large. The rest remain in the cyberspace, afflicted by delusions of grandeur, planning the next great Twitter revolution/hashtag. That is, of course, until the next season of bbnaija is on their TV Screens and then they surrender themselves to be reprogrammed into mindless bots cheering for idiots. Enough of all these buzz words that are being thrown around” we need to have these conversations, we need to have these honest discussions” because that is where they stop. As conversations and discussions! Stop talking and start taking action. Stop sorosoke and start duro soke. Take a stand. Do something! Any slowpoke can sit down from the comfort of their home and hide behind a screen to complain about the status of the country, but what are you going to do about it? Have more conversations? Pfft! All lives should be valued equally. The killing of improvised Fulani men should elicit the same reaction as a murdered graduate. A crime has been committed, people are dead, we should be angry. Evil is evil and we should stop trying to put it on a scale of preference because a society that decides to place the needs of a few over many has its days numbered. I will leave you with this quote (the irony is not lost on me) from Martin Niemoller First, they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out — because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me. https://revoluth./2021/05/06/the-pseudo-science-of-selective-outrage/ |

It’s being ages. I’m sorry I denied you all the privilege of being serenaded by stories of my not-so-fun life. I’ve just been in the middle of some serious soul searching. You know? You get to some point in your life where you just have to pause for a second and evaluate all of your choices and decisions and ask yourself, “am I still on the right path?”. When self-doubt and uncertainty are allowed to fester, they give birth to a dilapidating fear that brings you to a grinding halt. That was where I was stuck over the past few months. In a limbo. Drifting around aimlessly with no purpose or direction. Yes, I was “busy”. But if I was, to be honest, I was not working towards any particular goal or aim. It was just more of the same mind-numbing work that has made these self-professed online entrepreneurs who claim to hold the key to financial success and happiness seem like the messiah. Coming with their well-rehearsed rhetoric of “join my masterclass today for 50 bucks and I’ll give you the power to break free from the system. Disconnect from the matrix.” Yeah, right. I’m no rocket scientist, but anyone who will take 50 bucks to teach me the secrets of success and happiness is definitely not one to be taking advice from. I know that much. Anyway, lest I digress. Where was I? Aha! soul searching and stuff. Every day I woke up to one bad news or another as I watched my neighborhood, my state, country, and the world descend slowly into chaos. We’ve been hit with so much bad news; we are practically unmoved by anything we hear at this point. Every day is approached with the mindset of “what bat shit crazy thing are we to expect today?”. I knew I had to disconnect. A conscious .............. https://revoluth./2021/04/27/the-man-who-will-not-be-moved/ |

Afromentalist:Fragile egos like I mentioned. I'm not a LeBron fan, but I respect him for his ability to let his game do the talking rather than barking at every tree like kd, Kylie, et.al |
birdman:E be like say na another brand of NBA we dey watch. Even when KD, Kyrie and Harden were all on the floor at the same time, with the amount of offensive talent that they have, we are not seeing them dominating games. And don't give me that bull of "they are saving themselves for the post season". Na the same arrogance the clippers carry enter post season last year and we all know how that story went. They are just a collection of superstars. All of them with emotional and fragile egos that tell you when the pressure is on, i'd wager that they'll capitulate (I'm looking at you James Harden). |

As in eh. I am tired. Like, just tired and frustrated. I should warn you, there is no cohesive topic to be discussed in this piece. This is nothing more than a rant. Why are we like this in this country? I am not one who believes that one good turn deserves another. If you want to do good, do it because it is the right thing to do. Not because you expect something in return. But I believe in any position we find ourselves, we should always strive to do the right thing. It is very easy for us to sit in our different homes, on the bus on our way to work, in our offices, arguing about how the politicians have ruined this country and how they are mortgaging our future. But the fact of the matter remains that If we do not change our attitude and start acting like better human beings, treating people with respect, dignity, and love from the kindness of our hearts, we would get nowhere. It’s just so sad at times when you realize what we can achieve as a country if we stop thinking of what we can do for ourselves and what we can do for others. Like for once in your life, put the needs of others above yours. It won’t kill you to just do the right thing for once. Some people reading this would already be like “oga calm down. What did they do to you that has not being done before”? And this kind of thinking is one of the contributing factors to the malaise affecting this country. When we feel like “well. E don dey happen” or the most annoying one “na normal”. What do you mean by “na normal”? Are you people normal like this? Stealing from your organization and robbing your employer na normal? Office hours where you are being paid on the clock. You are using it for personal business and you are saying na normal? Seeing your neighbor’s kids engaging in unhealthy activities and instead of doing something, you turn a blind eye with the “e no concern me. Na my child?” philosophy. Don’t worry you hear? Karma is coming for all of you. I love what the present government is doing to us. Una never see anything. Since every man is thinking of always outsmarting and defrauding his neighbor at every turn, then we have no right to castigate those in power for giving us a taste of our own medicine. Now, to the main issue that warranted this shedding of tears. I was picked up by an Uber on Saturday. Nice guy, or so I thought. We had a long convo on the travails of being an Uber driver in Lagos. The amount of insult and disrespect you have to face left, right, center? Even from those whose net salary is nothing compared to what you pull in in 2 weeks. But because we are a judgmental set of people who like to look down on individuals in the blue-collar industry, we would continue to deceive ourselves. Acting all high and mighty, thinking we are better off than the so-called drivers. Or is it those girls that go by that degrading (empowering for the feminists) Yoruba word that starts with o and ends with o? In short, he confessed to me that those girls are the ones keeping the industry moving. Once you can get a few of those ladies to have your number on speed dial, you don hammer be that. Anyway, before I digress further, it was a great ride and the insightful conversation with the man opened up my eyes to see the ride-hailing industry from a fresh perspective. Now, I am not alaroror. I understand how important ratings are in a gig economy. I’d rather not rate you at all if the ride was not pleasant than to give you a bad rating that would affect your chances of getting more riders. I also have a principle that if you tell me to rate you 5 stars, I am not doing that. That statement right there is another symptom of one of the numerous diseases plaguing the average Nigerian, which is our entitlement mentality. As in, I don’t understand. You offered a service; you are still telling me how well I should rate you for the service. Whether I like it, whether there were some things I felt you could improve on? All those are none of your business. Your own na just “oga before you comot, give me my 5 stars abeg”. Some would even hold you hostage, insisting that you give them a 5-star rating before you alight from their vehicle. On top of my money again? You then wonder “which kind market I don buy like this”. After I got to my junction. I rated him, paid via transfer, and got down from his car. (Might I add, his car was the cleanest ride hailing car I had been in which left a lasting impression on me. Made me know he took his business seriously). Now, as I was about to board a bus to my last destination, I checked my phone only to realize that the transfer I made had been reversed and he had already called twice. Now, for a Nigerian still working with his default configuration, seeing that reversed transaction would have been classified as an act of God. The “ope oooo” that would reflect from the wide grin on their faces as they see that reversal message would put them in a good mood for the rest of the week. “The gods have favored me”, “this is a sign from the heavenlies”. “This is the will of God”. God has really suffered in the hands of Nigerians. I never gave it a second thought. I called him and told him I saw the reversal and I’ll resend the money when I got home later that day. Now. I am not trying to paint myself as a saint. But is it so hard to think when someone renders a service, they should be paid for that service? Whether the service was up to standard or met your expectations is a different conversation, but they should remunerated one for their job and nothing less. I got home later that day and sent the money. Now, this is where the drama starts. I never really noticed, but it turns out I forgot my Bluetooth earbuds in the car, which is an essential accessory for me. I would commend him for having the decency of calling me first to inform me of the misplaced item. Now the first time I called him on how we can go about retrieving the item, I suggested that I’ll intercept him somewhere in lekki. But if you’ve stayed in Lagos, you can testify how that state can embarrass you and throw a wrench in the works of your plans in minutes. In summary, that meeting never materialized. Being busy with work did not even allow me to call him over the next few days. When I eventually remembered on a Wednesday afternoon, I called him to see how I could recover my buds back as I was feeling their noticeable absence. I called him and the following conversation ensued. Me: bros, na so you wan carry my earpiece go?......... https://revoluth./2020/09/30/no-country-for-dull-men/ |

Shittaakeem:There is no reason the Celtics should have 2 players in the all stars game. I can understand if your team if the 1 seed and you need to compensate them(the only reason why Simmons should be above sabonis). But 6th seed? Nah. Only one player should have made it and i would have dropped tatum based on playing time. Brown carried that team when he was out. It's just the usual hate on European players. It's clear as day. Don't even bring on the " but vucevic is European, and they voted him in" argument! Why can't they both be on the team? Why would you need to swap out one for the other if they are both playing outstanding basketball? |
KNIGHTBlaed:Bros, i am not a lebron fan. But 36-year-old? in the wild, wild west? With the shortest off season ever? You sef fear God. You still need to criticize the man? Bros you no try. ![]() |
joshboo:Leave all those "dame should be a starter over doncic" people. Talking about the don like he is a scrub. A 3rd year developing player vs a man supposedly in his prime. Let dame's team be totally disrupted by covid-19 and injuries like the mavs, and let's see where in the standings he'll be. And this whole clutch narrative is something i'm fed up off. Dame would be clutch because he finds himself in the most clutch situations. Which when you think about it, is a testament to how he sucks for 3 quarters then supposedly comes alive in the 4th quarter. You won't need any late game heroics if you blow a team out in the first three quarters. It's that simple. I'll like to see the amount of clutch situation giannis/curry were in during their MVP seasons. Heck, even mavs themselves last season where they were blowing teams off the court on their way to having the highest offensive rating ever. How many clutch situations were they in? People just want to hate on the don because he is white. Subliminal racism at it's finest. And the fact that Łuka admitted that dame should start ahead of him is no argument. In short, that speaks well for him as someone who was raised right and raised with class. You don't tooth your own horn. Let others do it for you. No watch SAS, max, and shannon serenade over this performance tomorrow like they were just not hating on the baby goat the past week. Peace smiley |
Roland17:Leave all those "dame should be a starter over doncic" people. Peace ![]() |
It’s February 14, the day known as Valentine’s Day all over the world. An occasion that, according to unverified history, was earmarked for the celebration of love. Now, it has turned into a free-for-all, hall pass-Esque day where everyone is trying to get laid. After all, getting down under is what unfortunately passes as love nowadays. I can see the crowd coming with their pitchforks and knives, ready to silence me with their typical attacks. “you are just a bitter man because you have no one to share this day with”. Or for those who want to sink lower, “you are broke and therefore your opinion on this subject is invalid”. Because not possessing or showcasing wealth on social media nowadays give you no right to think for yourself. That is the level of discourse in the world nowadays. You can get canceled and ridiculed for deciding to go against the grain and think for yourself. I would say this though. I do not blame the people. The world is a marketplace and sex sells. Always have from time immemorial. Only it is more prominent in the modern age, as the values that were upheld and provided us with a template by which we should act have been completely eroded. Hollywood and the entire movie industry, serving as agents of denudation to that effect, with their unrealistic fantasies and misconceptions about love sold to us. We could run over the overplayed clichés and themes present in all romance movies pumped out by movie studios over the years. But eventually, it all boils down to between 100-180 minutes of screen time dedicated to a man convincing a woman that the solution to all her problems is a penis or sometimes, the other way around. It is such a shame that emotion so powerful, so profound, so all-encompassing as love has been reduced to an activity. The classic Disney cartoons many of us grew up on were our first introduction to the sad version of love that... https://revoluth./2021/02/14/where-is-the-love/ |

Hail 2021!!! Phew! It’s been one hell of a ride in the year 2020. I mean, what did we not see: World war 3 (we were really close) The pandemic The non-pandemic The virus. The vaccine The new world orders The protest. I mean, I could go on and on. We have faced everything that can be faced under the sun, but here we are. In the new year and now it’s time to bring out your pens and start preparing those new year resolutions that never make it past the second week of January. But we do it anyway. We need to start the long road to normalcy in the year 2021. That the clock struck midnight, and we ushered in a new year does not automatically signify that every problem and challenge we have faced over the past 365 days are now a thing of the past. Instead, it is simply a reminder that we should be grateful for the gift that is a new day. I can imagine what must be going on through many of our minds. We might not be able to wrap our heads around why exactly we need to be grateful. But if there’s anything I’ve learnt over the past year, is that it is he who that is alive that has hope for a better future. You might be down, but as long as your nostrils still draw breath, you are not out. The onus is on us, the living, to grab this new lease on life, this opportunity that the new year has presented to us to make the most out of it. You might not know it, but you are stronger than you were a year ago. You have survived one of the........... https://revoluth./2021/01/01/not-a-motivational-piece/ |
