Menstrual blood is thick-dark blood and it has unpleasant odour different from ordinary blood familiar to women. It is accompanied by pains or cramps, headache sometimes. Many women undergo pains during the period, it is pity and saddened heart to hear that some cultures or religions on earth still maltreat menstruating woman in this condition.

In some villages in Western Nepal for example, women during menstrual period sleep in a small hut or shed out of a fear they will contaminate the home or draw anger of the Hindu gods on them if menstruating women remain indoors. Their believe is that many people in the part of the country (Nepal) like family members or livestock will get sick, or even die, if a menstruating woman doesn’t stick to the rules. On November 18th 2016, 26-year-old Dambara Upadhyay, died in the hut, among others in the history. To them be their religion, and to us (Muslim) be our religion. Islam justly gives women rights; establishes respect and honor for them in all circumstances. It is only those who don’t understand religion of Islam or those who follow their whims that abuse or maltreat woman.

‘Aisha (Peace be upon her) narrates that, “We set out with the sole intention of performing Hajj and when we reached Sarif, my menses began. The Messenger of Allah sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam came to me while I was crying and asked, ‘What is the matter with you? Has your menses started?’ I replied, ‘Yes.’ He said, This is something which Allah has destined for the daughter of Adam.So do what all the pilgrims do with the exception of the Taw-af (Circumambulation) round the Ka’ba.” ‘Aisha added, “Allah’s Apostle sacrificed cows on behalf of his wives. Al-Bukhaari 293, Al-Hakim.

Narrated ‘Aisha (Peace be upon her): While in menses, I used to comb the hair of Allah’s Apostle. Al-Bukhaari 294. Narrated ‘Aisha (Peace be upon her): The Prophet used to lean on my lap and recite Quran while I was in menses. Al-Bukhaari 296 etc. This is our religion (Islam).

In Risaalah fi’l-Dima’ al-Tabee’iyyah li’l-Nisa’ by Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) the most important rulings that have to do with menses in women mentioned are that in during menstrual period Salat (Prayer) is not allowed, Fasting is not allowed, Tawaaf (circumambulating) around the Ka’bah is not allowed, Tawaaf al-wadaa’ (the farewell tawaaf) is waived in her case etc.

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has commenced change of courses and institutions for 2017/2018 admission procedures.
JAMB candidates

JAMB’s Head of Public Relations, Fabian Benjamin made this known in an interview in Bwari, FCT, on Wednesday.

Benjamin said that the process of change of courses and institutions could be done with the payment of N100 in JAMB Computer Based Tests (CBT) centres, and N250 at other approved centres.

He, therefore, advised candidates who wished to change their choice of course or institution to visit accredited JAMB registration centres.

According to him, the change is imperative for candidates who made mistakes while choosing courses they want to study or the institution or university they want to apply to.

“Change of courses and institutions starts today, you can change at will but you are only entitled to change twice.

“You are allowed to change courses and institutions not more than two times, if you change the first time and experience an issue, you are allowed to change the second time.

“You can change to anywhere and we are urging candidates not to patronise unapproved centres, because the board will not be held liable in events whereby a person’s change is not reflected.

“You can go to our website on www.jamb.org.ng and check the list of centres that have been approved at various states to avoid irregularities.

“We have had situation where candidates will go to Cyber Cafés and do whatever they like and then say the change did not reflect, the board will not entertain such complaints.”

He, however, urged candidates that participated in the just concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to cease the opportunity to change to the courses or institutions that they desired.

The Federal Government has abolished the dichotomy between university degree holders and those of Higher National Diplomas HND in the paramilitary services. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Abubakar Magaji announced this in a statement Thursday in Abuja. According to the statement, “the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Board (CDFIPB), at the end of its meeting held on Tuesday, 11th July 2017, under the chairmanship of the Minister of Interior, Lt Gen. (Rtd) Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, approved the regularization of the dichotomy between holders of University degrees and Higher National Diploma (HND) in all the Services. “To this end, the Board directed that all officers with HND to be upgraded to COMPASS 08, which is the salary Grade Level for holders of Degree certificates at entry point. While the nomenclature for the HND holders will start with the Rank of Senior Inspector, the Degree holders are with the rank of Assistant Superintendent II.” The statement equally added that “the Board also approved the commencement of the Year 2017 Promotion Exercise for all the Services with effect from 17th July, 2017.” Meanwhile, in order to boost internal security mechanism, the Board accordingly approved the establishment of the Institute of Domestic Security aimed at strengthening Inter-Agency cooperation, among other functions. “In another development, the Federal Government has approved the re-organisation of the Nigeria Immigration Service in line with the provision of Immigration Act, which stipulates the establishment of Directorate of Immigration. “The Directorates, each to be headed by Deputy Comptroller-General are Human Resources Management, Finance and Accounts, Planning, Research and Statistics, Passport and Other Travel Documents, Investigation and Compliance, Border Management, Migration, Visa and Residency”. The minister in the statement said the federal government places high premium on the welfare of its workforce and hopes that officers and men in the Services will reciprocate this gesture through improved performance and dedication to duty, in line with the Executive Order on the Ease of Doing Business, so as to revamp the economy.
