Nairaland / General / Who Is Like A Mother by Thatlonevoice(m): 11:54am On Aug 20, 2017
A Mother!

Mothers are gift to humanity who pass through pains, sufferings and travails of a woman. Her tears flowing constantly to see our beaming smile, her face so ugly to behold handsome and beautiful faces, her body battered to ensure the smoothness of our skin, her body full of words to make sure no scar surfaces in our body. Back then in primary school there's this particular poem know by all and mastered by toddlers " my mother, who sat and watched my infant head when sleeping on my cradle bed". The poem in its simplicity calculated and gave the result of a mother and her sacrifice. I must confess that if their sufferings were to be bequeathed on men, I will fight tooth and nail to object, their sufferings are much, I cannot bear them. Behind her tears is found joy, between her sorrows cometh happiness, behind her sufferings resides enjoyment, before her failures glows success and victory of ours. Mum I love you.

On my way along Enugu-Onitsha express way at kwata junction Anambra state, our bus halted for a guy to alight and there was woman running towards us with nylon bags all packed with roasted corn and pear. I looked at here and drew a conclusion that she must will be in labour in not less than three weeks and here she is struggling for a child she knows whether will survive, which love is more than this? . Out of pity I bought one corn and told her to keep the balance not because I was rich moreover I haven't even bought most of my handouts but because I know the balance can go a lot of way to alleviate her pains. The manner she thanked me looked weird, oga thank sir, thank you sir, God bless you sir. I chorused amen and wished her safe child delivery.

Although they were created from men but one not knowing the creation account will be left to think that both men and women were created same day or possibly conclude that men were created from women. Our present society has failed to acknowledge the essence of women in both political and religious arena but has seen them as a mere object of sexual satisfaction and the last resort.

Just recently I found out that child labour is the second most painful thing in the world after burning to death took the lead. Jesus Christ! I said in my mind, thank you mum. But surprisingly some women go through this pain up to like six to ten times. Mothers you're blessed. No wonder the popular igbo duo musicians "Umu obiligbo" who sang in their hit track " olisa gozierem Ndi nne, makana ihe nne na aru na uwa erika". God bless them, they know their essence.

A friend of mine once told me of his ordeal on how he met a woman who was weeding about two plots of land .Out of curiosity he asked the woman how much would be her pay. She said two thousand naira (#2000). What!! I screamed and told my friend that the pay was too small. My friend said he told the woman same and advices her to look for another work that will pay a little bit higher but she said no, she needs the money to feed her ailing husband and hungry kids. Now the employer of labour that engaged this woman will tell this woman 'stories that touch the Fallopian tube' after she must have worked in the farm. Now that's crime against mothers and humanity at large.

No wonder they are thanked by every person who emerges victory in any competition. They were our first darling, our first sweet heart and our sweetest hubby cum confidante. They gave us immunity through their colostrum when we sucked their breast. They are practically our love. No! No one is excluding the excellent role of the father, fathers are the pillars of the family but mothers are the grease that lubricate the joints of these pillars to avoid friction, fathers build houses but mothers transforms it into a home, when we were spanked by dad they were the one whose arms were open to cry and clothes to sneeze on . They are those adhesive that glues the family together and society at large.

What am I not saying, their looks! Oh father lord...sends a lot of signals and each look has a meaning. I could remember when I was small the first time mum took me to her friend's house and the friend was like "nna iga eri rice " you know at the mention of rice then every principle melts like wax and I said yes. Gbam! I got that look and like a reflex action my mouth said no, thank you ma. I love them for that.

A Jewish proverb said " God could not be everywhere and so he created mothers". There was this particular even that that made me doff cap for my mum. She bought cooked groundnut tied in a nylon when she went to market. Not that I was hungry but I needed to keep my mouth busy so I went to the where she kept it and took some. Mark my word "some".She came back and enquired on who went to the groundnut, I said that I don't know and besides I was the only one at home. She made it crystal clear that she knew the pattern the nylon was tied. Heiiii! This one off me, " see wetn person carry for head" lol of course I received the beating of my life because she hates lies and that thought me a lot. I can't imagine what life would have been without these wonderful beings on earth. What is home without a mother?

George Washington said "all that I aim owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I received from her". Mothers was, will and will be the brain box behind our success. Their religious impact, just like our mother Mary they copied her. Like the hen, their protection is overwhelming and her courage has no part two. Yes they can provoke yet that doesn't cancel their loving nature, "nine months no be moi moi" to breastfeed someone in the public is not easy so when ever she provokes you, chill and love her back they just need our obedience and love. In three words I describe them,"the living saint".

The problem now is that our society tend to depart from the rudiments of motherhood ,the alarming increase in slay, slaying and slayed queens and has made the joy of motherhood less attractive. My candid advice is that they should borrow a leaf from exemplary mothers. Oh! I won't forget those mothers who are out there trying harder to make both ends meet, I say keep on keeping on for the Egyptians you see today you shall see no more. Mama we will make you proud.

I will never forget those who lost their mother a precious jewel to the cold hands of death, may their soul rest in perfect peace. Amen. The only thing you owe her is to make her proud of the person you are becoming, accept my sympathy. To those of us who are still privileged to still have ours, shower them with love and make them happy for no man is poor who has a godly mother.

Education / Tansi International College Awka... Tica by Thatlonevoice(m): 9:45pm On Aug 10, 2017
*TICA... MY PRIDE MY PRIME*

Waking up this morning, I felt the urge to describe something. I remembered TANSI INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE AWKA(TICA), a home far from home where wisdom and discipline resides, a paragon of excellence and the pride of many. How can I forget those treasurable and priceless six years I spent in thy arm. An experience written in the sands of time and forever indelible in our hearts. Gratitude is all I can offer for those opportunities you availed me to for John. F Kennedy said"as we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words but to live by them" with this I say I will forever dwell by your teachings. This time timetable that made boys men, distinguished boys from men and made us survivors.

At 5:00 am, the sound of the bell wakes us all bringing us back to reality and reminds us that the day has arrived. At first one becomes reluctant to get up for the spirit is willing but the body is weak. Stepping down from the bunk we locate our tooth brush and bathing water and go straight to the bathroom and join the chorus of those having brushing already cum bathing. The first bell reminds us that we are already late, so hurriedly we prepare to avoid the punishment of the formators which comes at the stroke of the last bell. Immediately we start our morning prayers and the beginning of that prayer will remain ever in my heart, i always find solace in it,it says thus "Blessed be the holy and undivided trinity both now and forever more... Amen, let us place ourselves in the presence of God and humbly adore him". This period is a time when those who felt that their their sleep was cut short and didn't deem it fit to dodge the prayers and mass dozes off. Lol, some people will tell you that sleeping in the chapel is the best, still trying to find out their reason tho.

After the prayers begins the morning mass which is followed by the morning function where a higher percentage of us visits their area of duty and do justice to it. Some see this period as a period of washing clothes while others continue their sleep. This sets the formators on fire with their canes and they lie in waiting for the report of the labour prefects. Be the friend of the labour prefect and trust me,you won't know the smell of a broom either cutlass. At 7:10am the bell for end of function ends and this sees the students rushing in into the hostels to go and get ready for the morning classes.

At 7:25am, the morning assembly begins with the prayer seconded by Nigerian anthem and then the school anthem. I love the lyrics of that anthem and and says thus "Behold!! Tansi International College, behold the citadel of joy and learning, the school of excellence, pinnacle of wisdom" the chorus says "Hurray!! Hurray!!!, great and wonderful college the star of the sea...shining in the dark".Those words gave us encouragement to continue trying and defined the motives of the school . The
National pledge follows immediately. After that, the press club emerges with that word... "Good morning and welcome to TBS(Tansi broadcaeting service) news at 7...here's our head lines" and they keep is acquainted of the latest happenings in the country. After that the principal will address us and we all march into our respective classrooms.

At the sound of the bell at 8:45, the tension rises as we all await for the teacher to finish and we rush down to the refectory for our breakfast. "Pambi" a combination of pap and beans is not an ordinary food then, that food has been accoladed with much respect, it has nurtured boys into men and made some fighters. After that we enter our classrooms and continue with our lesson which later sees us into recreation. At 2:20 we end the class for the day and our siesta sets in.

At the sound of the bell we wake up and prepare for our afternoon studies,on your way from the hostel to the class you will meet up to fifteen students going to class with their football because at the end of the studies we go in for games. We are die hard fans of football!! By 6:00pm we say the Angelus standing still and that marks the end our games period which ushers us into that deadly period called Magna Silencia. That period is when the voice of birds and chirping of insects is expected to heard and not the voice of humans. In silence we go and take our bath and go in for our private devotions which in turn leads us into evening prayers where we say the rosary. At the end of the rosary, still in silence we move down to the refectory and have our dinner. We go for our night recreation and that period is the last time we are expected to talk loudly. At the end of that we move back to the chapel and say our night prayer collectively.

At exactly 8:30 PM we begin our night study and that lasts till 10:30 PM and we retire to our beds. At 10:45 PM the time for lights out. Lol, this period is when "oto" is sweeter. "oto" is mixture of biscuits, milk and Milo with an addition of Garri or "kpoms" (buns)...so rich. This period is when people go around begging with... "biko nyenum" syndrome of begging and this period brings problem because if you don't give, enmity ensures . Like this our day revolves into six years.

TICA has dwelt more on the three tiers of learning stated by Catherall " the three foundations of learning; seeing much, suffering much and learning much". The first class education TICA offers can't be found elsewhere where seasoned teachers are housed and docility our watchword. My heart goes out to the staffs both tutorial and non tutorial staff. An Italian proverb says that a teacher is like a candle which lights others in consuming itself. We love you more. TICA has proven to be the best amongst equals..... *MY PRIDE,MY PRIME*.

Nairaland / General / The Nigeria I See, I Hope And The Biafra I Vision by Thatlonevoice(m): 7:07pm On Jul 28, 2017
*THE NIGERIA I SEE, I HOPE AND THE BIAFRA I VISION*

Many friends of mine have sent countless number of write-ups,videos,memes from notable politicians, celebrities and bloggers. This they did to enquire about my say on Biafra agitations. At first I deemed it fit to let the sleeping dog. But my hands say otherwise.
Who on earth doesn't know the notable and industrious tribe called IGBOS. A tribe comprised of hardworking men and beautiful ladies of different respected calibre. I don't want to bore you with details about the history of IGBOS but hit the nail directly on the head. Pardon me... I beg.

The marginalization of IGBOS is not a new thing. Even a child of three years knows that. The recent killing spree aimed at this particular tribe is quite alarming. The Fulani herdsmen incident that took place in Ukpabi Nimbo community Uzo-Uwani LGA Enugu state on Monday 25th April will forever remain delible in our hearts. Over 40 lives were lost and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed. Imagine Aba located in Abia which produces close to a million of shoes, clothes and other accessories. Onitsha main market located in Anambra state which has been recorded as the largest market in West Africa. Yet the two states don't have an airport to boast of. Is this not the height of it all? Our bloods are hot, our temper has risen, our hairs are erect and our stark unclothedness has been exposed all in the pursuance of this Biafra land
But youths!... Read on

Nigeria is a country blessed by almighty God, comprised of over 250 ethnic groups and made up of 36 states. Nigeria as we speak is on the brink of division. A country that was laid on the blood of nationalist and courageous brothers from different tribes who died for the vision they foresaw. They believed that Nigeria is a home where peace will be our watchword and unity our support. They foresaw that the cause they are fighting for will be be acknowledge and respected. They foresaw a country devoid of sectionalism, religious extremism, political nepotism and at large tribalism. But the Nigeria I see now is a country meant only for the rich. Tribalism a saviour to our country and religion a benchmark for our existence . A country where looting, oil bunkering, rigging, political godfatherism and lots more are the order of the day. The rich keeps on enriching themselves and the poor gets poorer.

The Nigeria I hope is a land filled with milk and honey. Where the life of the other is our concern. Where there will be unity in diversity. A country where Odili, Usman and Akintola's opinion will be respected.

Biafra is who we are, Biafra is what we seek. Biafra can be said to be a conglomeration of IGBO speaking states and some selected tribes. The Biafra I vision is utterly a mirage. It's not what it seems to be. The first war fought which was spearheaded by Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu which accounted for over one million loss of lives and over two million war casualties. A war he led us into with spear and machetes, hoes and cutlasses against guns and armoured vehicles. A war he made us believe theoretically that victory was ours. A war that got many heroes killed. A war that made the crippled run, turned the blind into soldiers and the female folks an object of sexual ridicule. Oh God! Had we known. A war that took 70-85% of the labour force. A war Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu survived at the expense of millions of life. I call that war... "THE DELUDED BIAFRAN WAR".

The Biafra I vision will be gotten without guns and loss of lives but rather through talks . When achieved will be more deadlier than the deluded Biafran war. For crying out loud, the truth be told... We IGBOS don't love our selves. The success of one is at the expense of another's blood. Where blood money is a virtue and hardwork termed vice. Where deceit by political aspirants are acknowledged as the truth. The Biafra we seek is the one where commodities are bought at a cheaper rates and the prices are hiked? For instance peak milk is bought at #170 and sold at #250, laundry soaps are bought at #150 and sold at #220. Where our children's school fees exceed our daily income. The land where everyone will be at their whimps and caprices.

The political tussle associated with the actualization of Biafra will be a discourse for another day. We haven't even actualized our Biafran Dream yet some people are already creating scenes on social media about the state that will be the capital of Biafra.

I suggest that we all should think with our brains. James Alen once said "you are today where your thoughts have brought you, you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you". Let us critically think of what we are about to embark on and then decide. We are not animals where an ex convict emerges and decide our fate. I just love this quote by Sydney J. Harris "when we let somebody else decide what our reaction shall be, we are no longer free persons whether we decide to agree or disagree". Just like the winter coming, so is impending war advancing.

Youths of Nigeria ,I think our major concern now should be on how to make Nigeria better. The energy channelled into this massive actualization of Biafra when utilized will make Nigeria better and our nation will soar higher. Patience and wisdom are the virtues required. The key to everything is patience, you get the chick by hatching the egg not smashing it open.

I will end with a story. A boy heard of a wise man who knows all. So he decided to pay him a visit, he asked the wise man different brain racking questions in which the wise man answered and commended on the boy's brilliance. The boy unsatisfied went home and thought of how to prove to the whole world that the man ain't wise. He caught a bird, a little one of course and covered it in his fist and visited the wise man again, he asked the man "sir is this bird dead or alive "Thus he said so that if the man says yes its alive then he kills it but if he says no its not he spares the birds life. The wise man looked up and down and peered into the boys eyes and said "That this bird is alive or dead is in your hands ". So I say to my fellow youths whether Nigeria is divided or United is in our hands. The choice is ours to make.

*HAVE HOPE*

stories about the struggles of rich men, business moguls and influential people in our society. Yet their story doesn't seem to be captivating and motivating.

Every beginning has its rough part. Courage is a determining factor to success. A timid person is frightened before a danger, a coward during the time and a courageous person afterwards.

Oh yes!! You have laboured for close to like a decade, you have kept on trying, my story still remain the same. My heart aches whenever I remember the toils I laboured yet no fruit to show for it.

Dearest, do not lose hope. Hope is the best possession. None are completely wretched but those who are without hope. Hope for the best.

When I applied for my first university scholarship. I hoped for the best. But I wasn't shortlisted for the scholarship. But I didn't lose hope. Hope kept me moving and trying. The problem is not the duration or how big your problems are. It's just a matter of... ARE YOU STILL TRYING??

The journey is not easy. To endure and overcome disappointments, failures ain't easy at all. Keep trying and striving. Once there is life there is hope. The road is thorny but the glory is bountiful. If no one believes you can do it. Believe you can. I believe that you can.
*#Thatlonevoice* does.
Together we can do it.
Together we can achieve it.
With hope we will become the best.

*HAVE YOU LOST IT*

There is no medicine like hope,no incentive so great and no tonic so powerful as expectation of something like better tomorrow.

Oh! God if I start crying I won't stop!!. No that's not meant for me, it's not possible. Damn! That guy is so lucky!!..... It's natural my dear. Feel it. It's part of success.

Lack of confidence is no the result of difficulty, the difficulty comes from lack of confidence. So was my story in the year 2015.Did I lose it?

Life in school could be described as a ghetto of survival. Either you beat them or join them. Being among the best five in my class. I had my say virtually in everything. As life continued, I continued to make waves in the field of academics. Striving for that gift, I struggled to be amongst the best three. I burnt midnight candles, forgo my recreations, spoke less and listened more. All to make sure that I grab that prize. Exams came and gone. The result kept me in suspense. On the day before the prize giving day, banners were mounted bearing the profile of the best three to take the prize. My profile wasn't there. I lost it!!!

I became discouraged, My brain ached all those moments I read yet I endured, now see. I began to see reasons that hard work doesn't pay. I cursed my self for those night I denied my self countless sleep just for this. I began to dwindle in the ocean of despair. My health began to fail me. What of the disgrace associated with such failure? I cried, I wept, I wailed. I have disappointed my parents, all those that wanted to see me smiling on that day to go and collect that prize and above all I have disappointed my self. That was the greatest agony for that year!

On the prize giving day. I thought I could endure the disgrace. But it's a lie. It was much that day. I couldn't celebrate with the trio. My heart was heavy. My eyes swollen with tears, my legs were wobbling, my voice choked up. I had to seek for assistance to go to a place I can sit and reflect on my life. I cried! I suffered... But here's what that made me to forge ahead ...

Every cloud has a silver lining. Failure is success if we learn from it. Big fishes are not caught in shallow waters but open seas. I couldn't look at that failure from a different perspective. Sometimes problem/failure arises if we don't sit back and look at that problem/failure from another dimension. When one door closes another one opens but we spend time starring at the closed door. You can do it!!! People did it, you can do it! Believe that the prize was meant for you,but in cases where the prize slipped of your hand. Crawl back into your shell, restructure, redetermine and read appear but this time more determined. In every failure find success, in every disappointment find a lesson. Do not be discouraged. Rome wasn't built in a day.

WHEN IT RAINS LOOK FOR RAINBOWS

WHEN IT'S DARK LOOK FOR STARS.
