*Nabs five crude oil syndicate members

WARRI – AN attempt by a suspected international crude oilsyndicate based in Nigeria to defraud a Minister from the Republic of Benin of over N25 billion under the pretext of selling crude oil to him, has landed five members of the groupin trouble.
The five fraudsters, including a former secretary of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, western zone,(name withheld) werearrested in a hotel at Effurun, near Warri, Delta State, while holding a meeting with a delegation from Republic of Benin, sent by the Minister to further discuss the business. Commander, NNS Delta, Commodore Stephen Kor, confirmed the arrest of members of the syndicate in a briefing, yesterday, in Warri.
He said: “The syndicate specialises in defrauding individuals and companies with fake Nigerian Navy and NNPC letter headed documents for clearance of vessel.”
Vanguard learnt that members of the syndicate who usuallyposed as top Navy and Nigerian NationalPetroleum Corporation, NNPC, officials contact unsuspecting companies and persons, claiming that they would bunker crude oil to them.
Commander Kor said: “Following a tip off, NNS Delta special patrol team at about 10:00 on Monday, July 30, arrested five suspected fraudsters that specialise in usingfake Nigerian Navy and NNPC letter-headed documents todefraud unsuspectingmembers of the public.
The arrest was carried out at one of the hotels in Warri, where the suspects were to hold a meeting with some of their earlier victims. Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, yesterday, said it has disbursed N171.12 billion to 30 power and airline projects through the Bank of Industry, BOI.
Speaking at a one daybi-annual dialogue onimpact of governmentintervention funds in the transformation of the Nigerian economy, organised by the Nigerian Association of Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, NACCIMA, the Governor of CBN, Lamido Sanusi, said asat May 31, 2012, N171.12 billion has been disbursed through the BOI to airline and power projects under power and airline intervention fund. He said 14 airline projectsgot N90.45 billion while 16 power projects got N80.67 billion.
Sanusi said that Powerand Airline Intervention Fund, PAIF, was introduced in September, 2010 toprovide the leverage that will motivate and stimulate private sector involvement in the power and airline sectors, as well as fast track the development of both sectors of the economy.

This is true, d minister of information himself said it. He said d lawmakers spend 70% of d nations budget.l was suprised when l heard it on radio.

ABUJA—Defence Minister, Dr. Bello Mohammed, said, yesterday, that the Armed Forces were in a state of combat readiness needed to surmount all issues of insecurity, internal or external. He said government has ensured this by funding the requirements of the different arms of the military.Speaking at the ministerial platform organised by the Ministry of Information and Communication in Abuja, the minister noted that the state of combat readiness was achieved following the repairs and upgrading of a number of Armoured Fighting Vehicles and Armoured Personnel Carriers for the Nigerian Army.

He also said the acquisitions of the warship, NNS Thunder, and a number of Shaldag Fast Patrol Boats for the Navy, in addition to existing weaponry for the two services, had made them combat-ready.

The minister said the F7Ni Supersonic Jet fighter had been acquired by the Nigeria Air Force, even as M-35-Helicopters had been retrofitted, while Super Puma Helicopters and Alpha-jets had undergone upgrading and re-inducted.

Mohammed said: “We (Ministry of Defence) have also refurbished some of our C-130H Aircraft in the NAF inventory.”

He noted that the ministry placed great emphasis on the welfare of personnel of the armed forces.

If truly the Nigeria millitary is weak or not strong enough compare to other african countries, then why did the US chose them as number one in africa defence or peacekeeping among all other african countries including SA which claim to be the strongest. The US knows their strenght and knows they are the best for the job. Whether you accept or not that's the truth and SA cannot dare Nigeria. If you citizens are ignorant about that, your government knows it.

There is something which you guys do not know. Nigeria millitary is a secret affair, it is not easy to know their full capacity unlike SA. And in the case of boko haram and mend, they are nothing to nigeria army. The problem is they operate among the citizens and will the army fire the citizens with them? NO! eradicating boko haram is the work of the security agencies. You cannot use boko haram and mend to guage the nigeria millitary strenght.
