Oh ok.

I know a STEM student that was meant to do either Medicine or Engineering as per parents' pressure but refused and went to study Economics in Uni.

The person bully them throughout and came out with solid 1st class and best graduating student.....and it was quite easily done.
That was a cheat code, knew a few kids in the sciences that went that route and they did well.

All this talk about boy boy Courses - abeg where does philosophy fall in the heirachy of courses Ibime shits on 👹👹
Unlike Ibime, I do tend to rate art courses. Literature in SS1 kicked arse, largely because of its subjective nature. Music was always like braille grin and French, Edo and Yoruba probably worse. Philosophy seems like a discipline that's quite subjective.

Usually it was the kids with talent in singing, dancing, poetry, music instruments and acting that went to the arts. Always a small group of students, and it helped too that smart kids that wanted to be lawyers were Art students too.

Management and social science is where you find the bulk of students that didn't cut it in the sciences and didn't have talent for the arts either.

Government is our everyday life and could pass as general knowledge in some instances. Physics is not general knowledge.

I also don’t understand why I score above 80% in any biology questions that pop up on TikTok.
You'd have noticed that most people from STEM disciplines have avoided adding basic Biology inside the really tough highschool STEM courses, even though I believe what you'd probably be doing from TikTok is pop-quiz Biology, and not standard secondary school Biology.

Lol, Economics is the most fraudulently hard management science course, I enjoyed it a great deal, and did it up to SS3 and in WAEC, perfect for stat-padding.

The exams always started with some really easy graphs, and rate problems wey basic arithmetic go don conquer, no dey really bother prepare for that part then, go just face the the main theory part inside.

He's not wrong, but you'd agree that people that most of the people that chose the arts didn't do so because they were good writers either. For secondary school then, a fair chunk of the writers that represented the school in essay writing competitions were pooled from science classes.

I had this story of Bezos in mind on how difficult some courses are even for the brightest of minds, Bezos had a problem solving an equation and within minutes of taking same question to Yosantha man called Cosine as the answer.
I studied statistics but have helped an aunt with assignments on political science and she aced the assignments. First one I collaborated with a political science grad the other one I did it by myself. I argued why I think APC will win 2015 Presidential Election citing merger, general dissatisfaction about insecurity and economy, and violation of rotation principle.
I remember barely attending Entrepreneur, Philosophy and Logic and Nigeria peoples and Culture classes but passed them by attempting past questions a day before, .my attempts to do same in other science courses landed me poor grades or carryover that plagued my life in school.
True talk, and when it starts to look impossible to differentiate between bright minds, you reduce the time of testing even further, there'd always be a way to differentiate between the sharpest of minds.

Lmaoooo

If you are the greatest physicist in the world, you will fail a nebosh IGC exam if you don't prepare.

This is a simple safety course that involves just writing and no calculation.
The thing with courses that involve just writing is that if you don't study, you'll find yourself repeating answers because the questions look very similar.
I think the question should be how the greatest sociologist or management student would fare taking elite science exams, even with preparation.

There's a reason you almost never have science/management students doing cross-over into sciences while the reverse is the case.

Find Numberblocks on YouTube, incentivise them to watch it religiously and thank me later

My son found Numberblocks on his own and knew all his timetables, prime numbers, square numbers etc by age 4. He could even extend it further and be doing 13 times, 14 times up to 20 times by adding up. He has changed his watching interest from Numberblocks in the last two years but you can't catch him out with any addition, multiplication or division till date. He has even started Algebra and can find X in a simple equation from age 6

His senior sister on the other hand struggled with timestable till age 8 so I had to start bribing her with £1 per Numberblocks video till she completed her timetable recently. Mind you she was still top 3 in Maths in her class but the constant praise of her Junior brothers proficiency in Maths wrecked her confidence and made her feel inferior such that she would not look at timestable or attempt any Maths. Sometimes she would be doing homework, calculating and counting her fingers furiously and her Junior brother will just shout out the answer within one second, infuriating her and wrecking her confidence. So I had to have a talk with her to explain that her brother is exceptional and not to pay him any mind, while laying out bribes for her to learn timestable and hanging timestable on her wall for her to inculcate every night before bed.
Thanks for this, I had them downloaded a while back from PirateB@y and they were watching it at some point, but been too occupied of late to police what they watch and just allow them decide on whatever nonsense they want to watch on Netflix grin

Serious policing resumed.

I have said it earlier that preparation is very key in passing any exam in whatever field u may find urself . Anybody who is assuming he will ace exams in another person’s field without adequate prep is on peak delulu
Generally, yea, but sometimes it depends on the exam and the format of the exam.

Exams that involve explanation would be difficult without some form of preparation, but for multiple choice exams, even without preparation, you can find some courses quite relatable and do fairly okay, and I believe that's what Ihebu meant.

Please stop trying to invent a different narrative from what is being discussed . He boastfully said he will ace an exam he didn’t study for . Make una no Dey change mouth na
So your point is, while you agree that science courses are on average more difficult than social science/management courses, you don't think Ihebu would ace social science/management courses without preparation?

If I intend to take a science exam , I will take my time to take lessons on the fundamentals , do hours of study and practice questions . I won’t just wake one Saturday morning and claim I will do the unthinkable .

That’s why we are different . I am very rational
In my approach to these things
For a person that's fairly good at cramming, using only course materials, they'd be ready for your McPherson problem in 24/48 hrs max...there's no amount of cramming and ChatGPT that'd prepare you for that ihebu's problem in even one week, and that is why course A is more difficult than course B.

I guess we can also say because we did integrated science , biology , intro tech , etc ; the social science students can also claim they would do well in biological sciences , medical sciences etc Shebi?
Did it and did well, or just did it? cheesy

Na that Intro Tech people dey first use know say whether dem go do science or not, and after SS1 when they meet Physics and Chemistry they'd come to that decision finally. You can still wing integrated science, it was just a notch more complex than basic science that's very relatable, science inclined or not.

Even within domains where there's a higher degree of proximity between the courses, some courses are more difficult than others. For example, accounting grad no go dey talk say e course hard make business admin grad follow put mouth. Or in Sciences, a biochem grad would be saying their course was hard, and a botany or microbiology grad is putting mouth inside, or Chemistry grad put mouth inside pure Mathematics grad talk grin

You are not saying anything new that we don’t know or that I have not addressed up there .

There’s a reason people are advised to go for courses they identify as their comfort zone .

I once mentioned it here that I was placed in the sciences in SS1 off my JSCE result which was actually the best in the whole school . But because I don’t feel any real passion for the sciences , I took it upon myself to have me reassigned to commercial class .

I could as well have gone to the sciences , struggle like most students do, pass WAEC after 2 or 3 attempts , get into the university to study a course , struggle with my grades , have sleepless nights , graduate with an average grade and then join the hordes of people shouting “ science is hard “ .

If u are cut for science do it, if u are cut for art or sciences , do it as well. But don’t sit in one corner and be running mouth on other people’s choice of career/study path u have not walked in. E no gel at all
I don't think it's necessarily this, afterall science students did art and social science subjects to a certain point, and even took a few as electives in University. It's an objective assessment of the different fields based off their experience, maybe sometimes it comes off as running it down, but the crux of the argument is some fields are more difficult than others.

You're probably right that people should do what they find easy and relatable, but then again, some persons elect to challenge themselves, sometimes it works out, and sometimes it doesn't.

If you pack all the first class Physics students for Nigeria, put them inside one class and test them on some very difficult aspects of Physics, person go carry first, and person go carry last, does that mean the person that came last was dull, or that the subject matter was tough?

Lie Lie, I disagree with you Nobody finds Physics easy, Not talking of ordinary physics I'm talking about Quantum mechanics and thermodynamics. I repeat, Nobody finds them easy.
I'm sure even within BlueRay's social science, he'd acknowledge that some areas and topics are more difficult than others, but let somebody say science is more difficult than social science, he'd be up in arms grin

Some things are naturally more relatable than others, hence they'd be easier. For me, in order of difficult I'd rank it physical sciences/engineering, arts/biological sciences tie, then social sciences. I think social sciences are easiest because on some level, we all can relate with it, doesn't mean there are no very difficult aspects in the social sciences, or outliers in social sciences that'd best some of the best science students.

E get why US and global scholarship opportunities tend to priortize STEM subjects...even the ordinary physics you talk, for secondary school, it was far from ordinary.

Baba let me tell u one truth I’ve learnt from experience ; UTME is usually harder than POST UTME . If u write UTME by urself with proper preparations u will definitely find POST UTME an anti climax ; it’s usually simpler than u thought .

This hypothetical example would’ve swayed me if the people crying about glitch are all people who wanted to study medicine , law and accounting kinda courses . I saw one on FP saying her brother or sister scored similar high score in 2024 choosing computer science only for him or her to score 162 this year.

The question is how do u score that high for computer science last year and still have to retake JAMB this year ? Are u saying computer science too is so hard to get into with such high scores ? Why is nobody showing us their last year post UTME results to back their academic brilliance story up ?

Yea, these things are generally difficult to prove (or make a case of for that matter), it's why Akpabio's reaction and handling of the entire thing was especially curious, he moved and continues to move like a guilty man.
