Bro, sorry for disturbing, I just wanted to be sure before jumping in. Although, I have a pound domiciliary account, can the last option still fly since it has IBAN and SWIFT code. The first option only gave a sort code and I heard sort code is for use within UK and Ireland
You're not disturbing anyone.
You need an IBAN (starting with GB.....) and a Swift code for transfers from outside the UK.

Nadheer15:
Thanks bro, what option should I go for?
The last one, if you're using a Nigerian domiciliary account.
Some banks allow you to transfer from any currency to another, e.g. Standard Chartered allows you to make a transfer from a dollar account to a sterling account, etc., while other banks insist transfers to one currency must be made from the same currency-denominated account.

If you have a card tied to any Nigerian domiciliary account that is not denominated in pounds e.g. a GTB dollar debit card), you can use it under the "Pay with debit card" option, but the charges are going to be horrible.

Heyo people,

I tried using TransferWise for my pound domiciliary account, I wanted to do a transfer but then it mentioned something about getting my money by November 13th. Does this mean the money wont arrive until November 13th?
It means that they are giving you an exchange rate guarantee that will expire by November 13.
It doesn't affect you unless you are making a transfer from another currency to GBP.
If you are transferring from your GBP domiciliary account to your GBP Transferwise account, you have no problem.

Hi everyone, my passport expires in July 2021, and I intend to apply for my Tier 4 visa next month for a
1-year January 2021 start masters program. Can I apply with my passport having about 8 months validity or do I need to renew my passport first?

@lagosismyhome @all
You can apply with your passport as is, if successful you get a vignette valid for 3 months, then a residence permit in card form not tied to your passport's validity, but where possible see if you can renew it first. 6 months to expiration is the outer limit, but they make exemptions for special cases. Trust me when I say you do not want your passport to expire on you in the UK causing you to have to fellowship with those mad people at the Nigerian High Commission in London.

So we've arrived the UK and are now in our Airbnb we've booked for a month.
Flight was the smoothest I've ever been on (BA), connection in Terminal 5 was a breeze, and the Border Control officer asked us nothing at all, just stamped each passport, took fingerprints and sent us on our way, only document presented was the locator form.

No Covid test was asked or even hinted at in Lagos, just carry money with you for the massively increased bribes that will be demanded at the Lagos airport by the shakedown specialists in uniform.

Morning people , on the passenger locator form where it is asked "which country or island will you be to or have been to" what will be filled there . Cos am not visiting any island and not transiting any country it's a straight flight. Also, will the partner dependent fill the form seperately.
I just filled in Nigeria as well.
Then I filled in departure date from Nigeria, it allows you to avoid filling in arrival date.

Partner dependant has to fill in form as well.

Please someone should show me how to track my application from the website. I’ve tried and tried but can’t seem to figure it out. A picture will be appreciated.
Thank you
I hear there's a TLS app. Android and iOs. Download and use it.
Or go back to the confirmatory email from UKVI received when you filled the online application (the one which contains your full name). Open it, log back into your Gov.UK page, then click the green boxes as if you wanted to book an appointment with TLS all over again. The last green box is "Provide biometrics...". When you click that it takes you to the TLS website and you'll see the options there "Amend", "Track", etc.

Which is better between shipping and paying for extra luggage?
That depends on a lot of variables such as you yourself, what you are carrying, how soon you want it and how much you are willing to pay.

Guys pls, a friend of mine wants to apply as a dependant and has had 2 uk refusals for undergraduate studies in 2007 and 2009. The name he used then is quite different from what hes using now. he used Ndubisi Obiora then, but his current passport is carrying Paul Obiora same date of birth, pic, signature n all.
1. Should he declare the refusals since its not the same name he's currently using?
2. he cannot find the first refusal letter and cannot remember why he was refused. What can he do in this case.
Pls gurus in the house, what's ur take on this?
@justwise @mimilyrics @LagosismyHome other guru pls help
I'd advise he should declare the refusals, and state the name change and so forth. Fingerprints will give him away. This gives him more credibility.
Did he change his name officially? If so, he should just attach or go and get the documentation.

Or was it one of those things where someone has a religious conversion and decides to spiritualise their name or just decides to drop and add already given names without paperwork? (We see these sorts of things all the time). If so, if he has a document showing both names he has used in the past (e.g. one naming him as Ndubisi Paul Obiora, etc. or any arrangement or combination of the three, it helps.

At the bolded - I too had a refusal long ago whose details I can't remember (something to do with deposits into my account), just the year, and I stated it and also said I didn't have the reference, refusal letter or passport and couldn't remember the date or details. Giving whatever information he can remember is fine, however meagre, as long as he states it.

Lack of maintenance culture.

Apologies to the OP, I didn't want to create a new thread for this. So permit me to just drop this here.

I was in the Nigerian house few days ago, it was really cold outside so when I got in, I wanted to use the Gent.
Lo and behold, it was all broken.

The WC flush handle for the two of the cubes was broken and the third one was locked, with a tag on it. BROKEN.
Thankfully the Urinal were not blocked so I did my business, wash my hands. Took some pictures and left.

I know I should have complained, but to who exactly?

If you have been in Nigeria house recently or you plan to attend. Just visit the convenience at the basement. You will see what I have seen.
The House of Horror on Northumberland Avenue.
I will be fellowshipping with them sometime next year - my passport is just about full - and I'm already dreading the experience.

At the end of the day it depends on your residential status, if you are UK resident then you have got to pay tax on all your income. There is tax relief to avoid double taxation but you have to to be able to prove it. The HMRC do carry out a random check on accounts mostly businesses and the self employed and if your bank reports money coming into your account from abroad on a regular basis. If you are a foreign student then it doesn't matter but if you are UK resident then the HMRC will take an interest. These days terrorist groups use student accounts to lauder money and the banks have also got a duty to report this. The UK tax system is complicated and gets more complicated once you start receiving income from abroad, thats why you pay an accountant to take the stress away from you.
Insightful.
By any chance, do you know what the status of the income earned by a Tier 4 dependant would be?
I gather than my earnings by way of salary from Nigeria, which are taxed here, might/will be exempt from tax in the UK?
What about earnings from side businesses/rental property etc., which is generally not taxed (or rather upon which no tax is generally paid in Nigeria) - any idea what the tax treatment in the UK would be?

I don't see any connection between your location and Express Entry; if you can apply from Nigeria what stops you from applying from the UK?

Note that TransferWise is also an online bank like Monzo, Starling or Metro, but for our purposes it is way better than Monzo because it is open to users anywhere in the world, i.e. you can open a TransferWise bank account from Nigeria, with your Nigerian address and phone number, and they will give you an account number which you can then use to transfer money from your Nigerian domiciliary account. You don't need a VPN to use it from Nigeria and you don't need an app (optional). Just use your PC to connect.

When you get to the UK and open an account, you can then transfer your money from the TransferWise account to whichever new account you open in the UK, be it an online bank (which is faster and will come with a debit card, very necessary) or a physical B&M one.

Basically you "upload" your money by making all your transfers from Nigeria before you go and ensuring there are no problems from the Nigerian end (I have had none from GTB thus far, I used their online banking), then "download" your money when you get to the UK. They don't charge fees for local intra-UK bank transfers.

Hello House,

Please, I need advise from any one in a business school and also about the viability of the 2 courses below?

What is your advise on these 2 courses M.Sc Human Resource Management or M.Sc International Human Resource Management. I already hold an unconditional offer for the latter but thinking of making a switch to the second option if its poses more career prospects for me as it also includes a study-trip abroad while studying. They are both an accredited course in my proposed school too.

Please, assist me with your guidance/suggestions to assist me to make an informed decision.
@mimilyrics @duchess90 @Stenon, I also recalled that you ones made reference on the course on the thread, asking for a family member/friend, can't remember.

Kindly assist me....

Regards,
Go for either.
The "international" tag in the second course name is a marketing strategy to make it more attractive.
When you get to the UK you will understand that a "study trip abroad" most likely means nothing much, just a trip to another country to visit some company's offices.

P.S. Re career prospects, the truth is that your masters will most likely take you further if you already have experience in the field.

Are you asking whether you should leave your money behind in naira in Nigeria while you travel to the UK without converting it to sterling?
If so, the answer is no.
Open a domiciliary account, convert to sterling and wire most or all of it as you prefer to TransferWise.

Or they may not contact you again and go ahead to decide on your application.

Ok. So what was the issue with those turned back at POE even after booking a hotel for self isolation? I believe this concerns those without "friend's place".
If this story is true (and I don't necessarily believe everything I read on internet chatrooms or platforms), I would say that there was probably more to it than that.
But we can't know.

Please y'all make sure to confirm with the hotel the accommodation is suitable for self isolation. That is, if the accommodation provider can guarantee to monitor you while in isolation as I heard the officers at POE will confirm this with your hotel or so I heard.
I don't think this is correct.
What if you are isolating in a friend's house, will they hold the friend responsible for monitoring you?
You are the one under a legal duty to self-isolate, and it is the police supposed to carry out any checks.

What is the implication, if you choose no one is financially depending on you even if you are going with your spouse?
Meanwhile, she has the maintenance fee in her account. I have gotten my own visa but my dependent visa is not yet out. I will appreciate your contribution.
Some people did that and their dependant(s) still got the visa.
As long as the dependant correctly cited the main applicant's details to link their applications and have their own maintenance, they've nothing to worry about.

I will love a situation where TLS will include sms notification as an option in their visa tracking. More revenue to them but more service to people.

Advantages:

1. Redundant notification: People who their application mistakenly shows DMC on the web but have actually been transferred to VAC can get a transfer to VAC sms. So that trouble shooting visa tracking will be easier for applicants. There will be more ways of tracking.

2. Un-expected excitement: Imagine checking the web daily for visa tracking but read a transferred to VAC sms as you woke up from the bed or as you are offline most of the time, compared to how often you read your sms.

3. Information reliability: Getting same notification from web tracking and sms is a strong indication that there is no question about your transferred to VAC info.

I would love to hear people get this kind of experience.
There is an SMS option - I paid for it and did indeed get a notification along with an email when my passport was ready for collection.
About 350 naira or so.
