Grad students at some ivy league earn as high as $45k. But then, they spend more too. It depends, in general, on where the school is located. Some schools are in a city where cost of living is high

We are still saying the same thing... You mentioned a cheap state with stipend of 35k hence my initial debate. And the 45k you mentioned in schools in the Bay area or Boston, are only for competitive STEM programs like Physics or Computer Science. Others program in this expensive region particularly in humanities, don't even earn up to 30k as stipend.

Lol . About two years ago, maybe before COVID, cars were very cheap. Back then, anyone can get a used car with something around $3k to $4k, especially when you're buying from someone who want to sell, or leave the US. But now, getting a car isn't that cheap. And it might be hard for a student on stipend to cough out $8k for a used car, unless you reside in a cheap state and your stipend is about $35k per year

At the bolded, it is rare or impossible to see a grad student living in a cheap state and earning such amount per year only through stipend. Note I said only. Even many in the bay region don't earn that save for a few in Physics or in competitive STEM.

You should know that PhD admission with full funding is very competitive regardless of the school or department. It is even higher in competitive schools. Did you get research experience and does it align with the current research in the program of your choice?

Another thing is connection.... I tell you solemnly. Especially if someone of high caliber well known to a prof. with grant recommends you strongly. It seals your entry definitely.

The end goal of doing an advanced degree, is to get returns.. Some courses in the US are just useless, money making mills to cough out money from international students... Even the natives, shy away from such courses because they add no monetary value later on.

FYI, STEM courses are the best.. If you're not in STEM, then try to do a MS. program that can be linked to STEM somehow. This increases your chances of funding as well as OPT extension after graduation, Green card (EB1-A &EB2-NIW) filing and many more.

Someone I know, got full ride scholarship and assistantship worth 43,900 USD annually for 4 years provided good academic standing. Course- PhD in Physics.

This duration is not true for all persons... There are people who even graduate within 3-4 years after good research work... However, doing a PhD with steady funding from an advisor is competitive.... You need to be good in your field.....

Very few jobs sponsor for H1B o. The thing is that it's even a lottery system so a company can sponsor you and you won't even get it. When you graduate as a student you have OPT which allows you to work but it's only valid for a short amount of time. You have to try to get H1B during your opt period. If you can't you have to leave the USA, if you also get H1B you need to maintain it for 6 years to get green card. If you lose your job while on H1B you have 60 days to find another else you have to leave the USA. For some nationalities like Indians and chinese, it's almost impossible to get green card due to backlog. There's indians who have been working for 10 years on H1B and can't get green card.

The best bet is to be a PhD candidate in STEM, do good research work and show that you are a person of extraordinary ability which is not very difficult and viola, you apply for EB1A via express.... That's the surest way to approval now. Or the person do a postdoc after PhD and then get a faculty role in a less competitive college or University.... There is no cap for H1B for higher institutions at all...

For instance, in Nigeria, a man is responsible for most of the bills in the house. In Europe, both couple share bills. The man is also expected to assist in house work but may be cut some slack. Men will always be men. Some men are even househusbands.

Cost of accommodation is another worry. The best way to reduce this is not to stay in major cities. For instance, in England, no just near London. Rather go to some other cities. Even in Birmingham which is the second largest city in England, rents can be half as much as that of London.

In America, keep away from states like California which is expensive. Rather target Texas where accommodation is much cheaper

Texas has its cons immensely.. Many people, don't want to move to Texas.
