Hello Guys, please at what point does a student who has finished his/her course start to pay council tax?
Is it once project is submitted? Is it once result is out? Is it after graduation ceremony? Is it after the student visa expires?
Or if there are any other scenario asides the above, I'd like to know when one needs to start paying. |

Hello Guys, would like to ask a very important question.
Please how can a single mother or someone who is coming alone with two kids(aged 2 and 11) or someone coming with kids in general manage studies, kids and work at the same time? I believe many would have gone through this before and would appreciate their experience or things and strategies you believe can work or that has worked for you or people you know.
Thank you all. |

Thank you so much!!! dupyshoo: To answer your question about what happens after PSW: if you don't get a company that will sponsor your skilled work visa or go through another route to extend your visa, you will have to leave.
The good news is that you have 3 years to get a job that will sponsor your visa.
You have to start applying for jobs now. Instead of concentrating on survival jobs, spend quality time applying for grad jobs. Learn how to answer competency questions. Work on your CV. Learn about assessment centres. While some people will get the 1st job they applied for, some will get the 500th job. So keep applying and don't be discouraged. I have been through the process myself. While I was lucky to get a job before I finished my MSc., a lot of my friends got good jobs during PSW while some had to go back home.
Go through the list of skilled work visa sponsor and strategically apply to those that sponsor. No point applying to those that cannot give you COS. Target companies that are already sponsoring. They are usually open minded and have process in place to sponsor. |

I would like to ask a very important question that almost every new person relocating to the UK would have asked or have it in mind. The question is- What happens after the PSW Post study work visa?
For me I see this question as what can I do to ensure I make use of the 2 years post study work visa to ensure I make the best use of the PSW and get a job that can sponsor before it expires.
Please honourable members, I would need your support and practical contributions on this topic. This would in turn help alot of people here to plan well and be strategic with certain moves.
Thank you all. |

What about that part that says if the dependent takes paid employment or receives benefit? Does it imply that if the dependent is working then they would have to pay? LagosismyHome: It is not only the student who is exempt... the student dependant as well. So if your wife is a dependent to a student visa person then she too
Making this not necessary . So only if you are on two different visa category. For example if one was on Tier 2 and another Tier 4

Hello Everyone, I need help o. I got a new job at Exeter but I currently leave in Northampton and the distance is just massive and expensive by bus and train. I'm to go for induction for 4 days Monday to Thursday and then work from home afterwards and then I would settle down and get an apartment in that area.
So if there is anyone in that area exeter, Plymouth or anywhere around where I can manage for this days, I'll be extremely happy. I've checked hotels around those areas it's about £60-£90 per night.
Anyone have any suggestion or advice? |

Hello, someone just paid for hers almost two weeks ago and she got the mail says she has booked and she should come for her capture and all. Would she just go without getting an exact date? Anyone that had done this in the UK should help or if there is a number one can call to confirm appointment, please share. Thank you icon8: Update: New passport was delivered by Royal Mail this morning. The journey that started 10 months ago finally ends here |

This is the reality and truth for some people. However, my advice would be that anyone planning to come to the UK to study now should do alot of research and ask questions from people there already. What I've observed so far is that in some areas even with the covid 19, there are still alot of jobs while in some areas, nothing at all. So when looking out to make a choice on the school, also remember the location is very important, don't just go for any location, I can tell you that there are areas you would easily get jobs but if you are in a location that there is no job and then the only areas you are getting the jobs is miles away from you then transportation and all comes in and it's harder. Then I believe when coming have a mindset of wanting to achieve something and focus on it, be resilient and be prepared mentally for the negatives and positives but have a mindset to make it through. PS- I'm a dependent, however my wife who is the student attends lectures online at least 4 days a week one of the lecturers even called for a one on one class at one time, she has also been called for some student jobs that have offered her some pounds per hour. I on the other hand coming from Nigeria with some experience in the space of less than a month have been called for at least 3 to 4 interviews, got two offers already and all. That said, please research and ask people that would be honest with you questions, also pray and ask God for directions and be resilient and keep believing things would turn out good. Apply to alot of job and be ready to improve on yourself. toyclicks: Hi Fam.
Wow! Good to drop in here as a testifier to this place. Hope y'all doing fine.
Ok so....quick one. Let me share my experiences so far I now understand why ppl abroad find it difficult to have time. You almost have to plan your breath. Time is really a scarce commodity here. I don't know how all the good ppl here @justwise, @mimilyrics, @stenon et all. I don't know how you find time for this forum ooo. You were and are still a blessing. Whatever way you have been able to keep squeezing out the time to help ppl here, I would say its worth every part of it. Being a part if so many ppl's life journey and being a blessing to them is worth all the effort. So pls as God helps you, don't get tired.
Now....let me say this bitter truth. A bitter truth that ppl on this forum have quarrelled with Justwise for saying. This ppl included me.
This is not the best time to come to the Uk.. IOW, if you have the means to still chill in Nigeria for 6-12months, sadly, I would advise you to do so.
However, if you want to come and join us to whether this terrible tough period, I am not discouraging you. You are welcome.
Let he explain a bit. If your aim is really studying, don't come right now, else you won't get value for your money. The pandemic has really messed things up. The online class is BS. Even the schools don't know how to handle the situation yet. One other major thing is that networking is difficult. In 6 weeks I only had a class meeting once. Till now I only met one of my senior colleagues since I've been here. No one to come to your aid. You are all by yourself. Everyone is trying hard to survive. Everyone is really busy. No one has your time. No one is available to put you through things. This is when you will value trivial things like seeing your colleagues and lecturer to chat and discuss, holding physical meetings. Believe me, you can't fathom how much frustration this can be, esp when we are talking about something that involves more or less the biggest investment of your life yet. This new way of life has affected many things and not everyone is able to adjust to it.
Also, don't think the lecturers are available to help you. They are not available to "babysit" anybody. They expect at the masters level that you are really cooked and there are many things you are expected to know. Unfortunately for those of us coming from a place like Nigeria, believe me, we are really undercooked. Believe me, a primary school kid here will do much better than you. One of my coursemates confessed to me that it was her kids that helped her with her coursework when she couldn't get a hang of it. Her kids were born and grown here. So you get what I mean. It's so easy for them to flow. Long and short, there is so much catching up for you to do in order to come up to the same level with these ppl. ...And yes, ppl are really getting stranded. I already know ppl whom we moved together from this thread and left with the hope that they can hustle it out. They are getting stranded. Pls if you are coming at this period, you are better off with as much buffer finances as possible.
As regards jobs. There are jobs and there are no jobs. What do I mean? Jobs have really been reduced cos of the pandemic. However there are still some kind of jobs in some remote areas far from town. Transport cost on the long run might take a big chunk of the pay(like 30%). The distance is much( to is like 2½ hrs. Making 5hrs round trip for your job commute) hope you can understand now. The jobs are simply available there cos the location is far from availability of labor. So you count your cost.
I am just taking time to explain all these so you understand my reason for advising to chill a bit if you can
However, for all the ppl like me wet naija don tire. Make una dey come ooo abeg. We go rough am. We go survive.
I hope my msg is not all too negative. But I think it will be of good to you if you get the true and clear picture of things so you can make informed decisions.
I wish us all the best we can be.
Cheers to y'all. I hope to share more and sweeter experiences later |

Almost exactly my case too, same date I got decision mail. Only that mine was standard since 24th of September and it's already a month now (Calender) and I think like 22/23 working days. I called called ukvi at least 8 times with almost the same story everytime and the last time the lady made it look like it was because TLS was closed due to the curfew and all. I told her I should have had a response/collection email even before then but still told me to wait. xander21: Guys I need your advise.
I received decision mail (priority service) on the 15th October, up till now I haven't received a collection mail. The tracker shows it hasnt been "Transferred to VAC" which I find odd.
I called on the 20th, the lady says I should wait till next week, that the priority only guarantees a decision will be made within 5 working days, but doenst guarantee delivery within the time frame. Which is rubbish!
I am aware the TLS offices are closed, but something should have happened at least. Does anyone have any idea when the offices will be open?
I intend to go to the UK embassy in lagos to make complaints next week, the moment offices open.

Congratulations to you. All the best. HerMoney: Hello my people!
I give glory to God for his mercies and faithfulness. After two US denials last year and one Canadian denial in 2018, (all study visas), UK has opened their doors and I'm more than glad to walk through them.
Application Sep 18 Biometrics Sep 28 Decision mail Oct 16 Visa approval/Collection of passport Oct 19 Na travel date I dey plan so.
I want to profusely thank all Nairaland members on this thread, especially those who painstakingly and selflessly answer others' queries and guide them on this journey, (special thanks to Mimilyrics), you guys are the best. You don't know what you do for us. I came in here so dejected and confused but you put me through and now, I'm headed to the next phase of my life at the University of Sussex. May God bless you all. I have mixed feelings right now especially with what happened to our brothers and sisters in Lagos yesterday. It's sad that we have to leave our country in this sorry state even though temporarily. Please let us continue to pray for Nigeria wherever we are or find ourselves. This is our home.
Goodluck to everyone still applying. Don't let anything discourage you whether age or degree or previous visa denials or whatever, dare to go for your dreams and God will make a way. If you need further assistance, please contact the UKEAS offices. They are very helpful as well. |

Congratulations bro. I would still apply for a refund though if I were in your shoes. It would be left for them to refund you or not, there is no harm in trying especially when you feel there is no reason why your application shouldn't be straight forward. Ibddon92: Priority Visa Application Timeline(ikeja TLS) Biometrics 24th of September Decision mail 14th of October Collection mail 19th of October Passport collected 19th of October
I must have received about 6 non straightforward messages, even though i don't see any reason why my application shouldn't be straightforward. I had only attempted to travel out of nigeria, once before now, and it was successful. I travelled to the UK on a 6 months visit visa, and i spent just 2 weeks, before returning to Nigeria, back in 2017. I believe my application was processed as standard, on purpose, because the latest resumption date on my CAS says nov 9. Maybe they didn't feel i was in a hurry. We'll never know. The non straightforward messages is to stop me from applying for a refund. No wahala. |

I get you. I think the next step would just be to take the passport back to the TLS centre that did the biometrics and make a complaint. Aprokodaughter: You can check the school finance department email on their website or Google it. Ask them for a receipt or invoice they will issue it to you. I know Sheffield Hallam University has such department. |

This is quite strange, you mean there was no visa, no letter and no rejection email? I'll advise you go back to the VAC(TLS) and make a formal complaint. I believe this would be resolved. I would encourage everyone to check their passports before leaving TLS for any errors on names or passport number errors so it can be treated. Ogcgodwin: Please I need your advice
Did biometric on 22nd of September IKEJA Priority service I had a phone interview on 29th of September And I got decision mail on 1st of October
Since I got decision mail on 1st of October, I tracked it after a week, it was still at DMC, So i decided to call ukvi after a week still at DMC and they told me they gonna escalate it
So today I got back my passport, When I opened the package, it contained only my passport with absolutely nothing else in it, and not even a refusal letter was sent to my email (I checked my spam, main box, promotions etc. |
