The only one of them that has the remotest chance of making it to the World Cup is Debbie Abiodun.
You can forget about the others.
Afolabi ? You can't be serious cheesy cheesy cheesy

Esther is actually better footballer than those aforementioned two. She's better technically, has a better spatial awareness as a midfielder, and reading of the game, but just like everything football in Africa, we tend to always go with PACE and POWER/STRENGTH. Technically gifted players are a rarity in African football and it's just sad that we haven't grown past this stereotype.

There's a reason Debbie will always be called up before Esther and Flourish as long as Randy is in charge, because he too came from a system that prioritizes "ATHLETICISM" over everything else. Players like Ifeoma will always get a call-up and starts because she too is "Physically Strong". He tends to always choose the most "Physically gifted players" even if it means playing them out of position.

Until we have an excellent central midfielder,
with both good left backs and right back we will continue to get disgraced when we play with both our mates and our elders. sad

Ndidi is just strolling around, what a very poor and technically deficient player he is... It would have been better if we played with just 10 Players.

I never understand why football players or even sports/Athletes from Nigeria can never be in their peak years for more than 3 years. After 3 years they begin to already "Be past their Prime". For almost 2 decades now, no Nigerian athlete has been able to stay at the top or anywhere near the top for more than 3 years....Even their best and peak performance years could be described as average at best. Only maybe 1-2 Players have performed at a top level.

Bruh....These players are just non-existent. Nigerian Sports across all boards just keeps going down the abyss without any effort and plans to get back up.

Whatever we're looking for down there, we better enjoy it.

Oh...The Portuguese FA should demand a refund of whatever they paid the NFA for this stupid circus...Lol

She's not a doctor YET. Alozie is fortunate to be one of the very few to pursue both of her passion at the same time. I think what's left for her to do is to go to medical school.

She intends to go to medical school once she's done professionally with football. Having the opportunity to work with a pediatric oncologist while playing football is darn fortunate.

I know that, but she's not "one of the Very Few". A majority of NSWL/FA WSL players are college grads and some even holds masters degrees or double degrees. eg Former Everton GK, Lizzie Durack is an accountant, and she quit football to go work for a fortune 100 investment bank ( Goldman Sachs)
Nadia Nadim is already a medical doctor, been shadowing in Surgery since 2020 and got her license to practice this year....Bethany England from Chelsea is studying law , Eni Aluko was practicing law while playing for Chelsea too etc.

The US has their college program which gives these women an opportunity to have careers outside of football ( Most of whom have degrees and 2nd careers) , thats also how they Produce their athletes in all sports sector.
In UK, they have a " Dual Career Scheme" for women too, which helps them become college graduates and to pursue another career, That's part of the reason their women's football have grown exponentially over the past couple of years, Australia too. The Dutch and The Germans have had similar projects for over a decade too and you can tell by the standard of football in those countries.

I mean women's football only became professional in Europe's top 5 league around 2015-2018, and their professional contract duration is still capped at 3yrs at a time.
So yes, dual career is very much a common thing in female football/amongst female footballers.

But i'm happy for Michelle and hope she continues to Pursue her dreams, Med School and the whole residency thing isn't easy...Wishing her all the luck in the world.....She's one hell of a beautiful young woman

I'm sorry if this reply is too long, unnecessary and out of place.

Alozie is a Doctor outside football so I don't think she would really venture into coaching. Ordega? Heard she has a coaching license now so....I'm really surprised cos she doesn't look like someone who is capable of coaching.

Tony Payne might coach sha cos she understands the game...reason why she always put up a tip performance irrespective of where she is played.

And Yeah... My 'Tigernut' has the talent and the chance to climb the podium. But the competition will be stiff...

Michelle Isn't a Doctor, but rather a research Tech. She studied molecular biology in college and I believe she works as a Pediatric Oncology lab tech.

Who is the girl Playing Left Back for Bayelsa Queens? She really seems to be clueless on what she's supposed to be doing. Her positioning has been piss poor to say the least, she doesn't know when to drop back, push forward or get tighter to her man (Woman). Her LCB and DM has been doing all the defending for her and she seems to be in no man's land... The game is just passing her by. Her back passes her put her GK and teammates in a dangerous situation a lot.

The two GK's really look promising...Bawou looks really good with the ball at her feet and seems to be a good sweeper, good positioning and a competent stopper...TP's Gk looks like a really good Shot stopper too, she's good. I'm happy seeing the growth in African women GK's.

Oh...and the Referee is terrible, she doesn’t seem inclined to protect the players at all. Several instances where there were bad challenges from both teams and she just ignores it. The players are out on the floor in pain and it'll take her ages to call play and get them medical help. The last play on Anjor's collision with TP's GK could have been a head injury and yet she doesn't stop play immediately and call for medical help. Terrible Stuff all round. Smh.

Damn...Oshoala is one Terrible finisher!! Like it seems whenever she's gets to a shooting position she automatically has a mental block. She always looks so tensed...She should relax a bit more, enjoy the game and perhaps she'll be able to finish.

Nigerians are groomed to rely on prayer ( religion ) and hope instead of creating multiple masterplans, training to abide and adher to the masterplans and having other plans that improve the original masterplan incase the original masterplan doesn't work or becomes obsolete..

True! and look where that has left us.

Not trying to discredit what the girls have done so far in this tourney, coz they've tried so far to the best of their ability. But i'm just wondering if these girls are the best set of u-17 we have in the country. Or it's down to the coaches tactics. Coz this kick and follow kind of football i saw against USA & Colombia no follow atall.

And that Caicedo for Colombia na baller. Marta in the making!

Thank you so much for this. Were these girls the best in the land? i think maybe not, did they give it their all? I don't know. I know that nepotism and corruption is rife in the nation, but regardless, I believe these girls worked hard to be where they are today and i wouldn't wanna undermine their effort and hard work or anyone else for that matter, especially when said person or entity is representing our beautiful nation ( I know...Lol, But Still ) in a positive light. It's a dream come true for some of these girls ( Including the guys too ) to be an ambassador and represent their nation while also being able to provide for their families.

Should we expect better from them? Definitely....and a just criticism may also be warranted, but i just wanna wish everyone of them well in their future endeavors and career. I hope they get better in future and be in a position to represent themselves and the nation better.

Caicedo is already playing for the main Colombian women national team..

How many of the Flamingoes are playing or given game time in the Super Falcons

the commentator also said at least 6 of the players in their U17 played at the just concluded U20 women's world cup..

How many of the Flamingoes played at the U20 women's world cup

If Caicedo was a baller she would have scored hat-trick because she had at least 2 one one ones with Omilana.

Yeah i remember Espitaleta, Guzmán, Perlaza, Ortegón and Linda Caicedo played in the U20 World Cup in Costa Rica. Caicedo was there best player too in the U20, she scored 2 vs New Zealand and she's already a full international having made her debut for their Snr Team at the age of 15, with 15 Caps and 4 goals. I'm Hoping that Flourish is nurtured and given similar opportunities in the national team too as she seems to be the standout amongst attackers since 2016 in our women's age grade teams.

This is where we always have a problem in West Africa, especially Nigeria. We do not have succession plans. You can count how many of our U17/U20 teams both men and women have made the transition from Jnr Football to Snr Football and went on to have successful careers on one hand since the turn of the millennia. ( e.g The last U17 World cup That Nigeria Participated in, Only 3 Players has made it to the National team and are a success story. Nnadozie, Ajibade, Ucheibe and maybe we can throw in Peace Efih. and Glory Ogbonna in there )

We see this in every facet of the country too, we do not have a blue print/master plan, follow up and succession plan in everything done in that country. You can see the state of infrastructures, economic growth, education. Even our sports hasn't grown in the past 20 years but rather has regressed.

We always start from the beginning whenever we wanna do anything because there was none existing before or the already existing ones weren't maintained and have been left to rot. It doesn't help that we always put unqualified and clueless individuals to oversee the affairs of the other 220+ million individuals in this country so we never even get a desirable outcome to begin with.

I was referring to the goalkeeper brought in for the penalties.

I know That, but I was pointing out that it was terrible coaching by not preparing the girls for the PK, since that was what the coach was going for. The coach ( More so, the GK coach) usually gives the GK list of the opposition players and their strong/dominant foot and which side they usually kick the ball to be it PK, Shots, Set Pieces and clearances. ( Now I'll forgive them for lack of preparation on opposition players placement of shots during PKs as there maybe limited data on that, given that this is most likely this girls first outing where data is collected ) But to not do proper opposition scouting and determine their dominant foot, body and shoulder placement when taking a shot, set piece and clearance is appaling.

It also appears that the Nigerian goalkeeper was out there purely on her talent to stop spot kicks and no training, Practice, teaching and hard work was put in. ( Talent can only take you so far, without hard work, it means nothing). It's clear that Jiwaku is only comfortable diving to her right side as evidenced during the USA PK shootout and today. Of the 12 shootouts she faced in this competition, she only dove to her left ONCE ( against the US ). This is where the coaches comes in. Train her to be comfortable moving to her left also. If she had moved to her left even once, it doesn't mean she'll save it ( Though it also increases her chance of saving the left centered shots, as you can't make a save if you don't try) it would have prompted the Colombian takers to switch up their routine and go to her right also, thereby increasing the probability that she makes a save. Of the 6 Spot Kicks the Colombians took, 2 was struck to her right, She saved one and got a hand to the other. The Colombians must have figured out her inability to move to her left side and guess what, the rest of their spot kicks went to her left.

All these doesn't guarantee that we would have won, but it still calls into question the ability of these coaches and how they even got the jobs in the first place.

Being a Coach isn't all about drawing up a formation and selecting a team, so much goes into it and there's a lot of deficiencies in the Nigerian National team coaches seem.

Sorry for the Long reply.

The sort of coaches appointed to be in charge of our national teams is really baffling. Whoever makes these decisions is terrible and clueless. This is what we get when tribalism, religion, gender bias, greed and always wanting to gain personal financial benefits directs everything we've ever done and will do in this country.

If there's a definition of incompetence and Tactical ineptness in the dictionary, i'm sure you'll find the names of every Nigerian national football team coaches in there. What kind of coach/Trainer/manager sets up his/her team to be vulnerable right off the bat and doesn't even bother to tweak the mistakes as the game goes on?. Not only that, you still allowed the girls with tired legs to be out there and banking on making late minute substitutes to come help out in a Penalty Shootout? ( That's the only Tactical change and knowledge he knows and he still can't get it right). He just selected only 5 PK takers and sent the team out there and not accounting that you may need more than 5 takers. So his plan throughout this competition was just to shout and pray from the sidelines and the rest is OYO and YOLO? Smdh!
