Dear Nairalanders,

1We have recently been informed that Google is not happy with the kind of language Nairalanders use on the Nairaland Forum. 2They have even taken punitive measures against us to drive home the point that they want Nairaland to be clean: no dirty language, illegal activities, etc.

As a result of this, we had no choice but to install a strong word filter to eliminate any words which are embarrassing to advertisers or not family-friendly. 3We are also putting the Sexuality section in a hidden area, because there's no family-friendly way to discuss sexuality.

You have to understand that my hands are tied. We have no choice on this matter. 4So please, any Nairalander that attempts to bypass the censorship filter in any way will be treated as a spammer. You're going to be banned both by human beings and bots.

5There are millions of topics we can discuss without having to use x-rated words. Let's focus on them!

Regards,
Seun Osewa.
Nairaland Founder & Admin
1. Does Google own this website or is it co-owned by the both of you? Since when has Google has become a board that regulates people's speech and their opinion on how to state their comments? I still believe somewhere inside me that Google may have placed some ads on your website but it should still be your right to let your clients (in this context, users) use the website to the best of their convenience, and this should be known to your Google partners or whatever regulatory board they are.

2. What's their business with wanting Nairaland clean from such languages? Are they trying to tell you that there aren't other sites where Google places adverts that these words are used? You need to do more of your research. There are even Google-sponsored forums where I can still use the word Zap., so what's this nonsense about Google driving some bulla.ss point home?

3. If you have to put some section away just so Google won't start fuming, then I want to believe you don't own this website. And don't they know this is a website where grown people come to comment? This is not a high school forum, this is where Nigerians from all over the world come to express their views, and as beautiful as it looks, everyone wants the freedom to express themselves any way or manner they want; Google being an international company, should realize that.

4. Just say the administrative board of NL will ban anyone that bypasses your filter, don't put it on the spam-bots. Who even cares who bans who? I have come to realize that we're dealing with tyrants where NL is concerned but hey, it is what it is. Half bread is better than none. There are information I get here that I may not have got from elsewhere, so it all makes it interesting. Oga Seun, we will try and abide by your 'rules' but that doesn't make it acceptable. A Yoruba adage says, "Ka do ba'le fun arara ko ni ki a ma ga mon" (meaning that prostrating for a midget doesn't connote that I won't grow tall), suffice to say, if obeying your rules guarantees us our membership on Nairaland, so be it.

5. Yes and there are millions of topics where I might want to blast at someone and say Zap you as a grown adult, and what, Google has restricted me from saying that on Nairaland. This is a general forum, not educational nor an official forum, it is just any other forum in the world and there should be freedom of speech there and however each of us chooses to utilize that freedom. If you want to justify these word filters, you need to delete some sections completely off Nairaland.

Conclusively, let's say no to mental slavery from these western extremists. Even on Twitter people go on there to say whatever they want in whatever way they want it; same goes for Facebook, same goes for MySpace. So what makes NL so different? Because it's owned by a Nigerian?

These are my opinions and I stated them bearing in mind that Seun is the sole owner of this website, if it's otherwise, then my comments shouldn't be reckoned with as valid.

Give an instance of how he talks. I know why I'm saying so. Some people have misconstrued my bluntness for arrogance many times and that happens everyday. So, if you don't mind, give an instance

Yes, you need to define what arrogance means. How is he arrogant? Is it in the way he talks or the way he acts or the way he dresses or his demeanor? You need to put the pieces together before you can eventually decide he's arrogant.

Romance / Official Statement by TheSeeker(m): 3:19am On Dec 09, 2009
This thread isn't meant to be a fighting arena but I'd like to set a few things straight here about the tumultuous arguments surrounding my association with Gators.

First of all, Gators and I did talk before about a lot of things - things I wouldn't like to disclose here for any reason whatsoever. Reason is because whatever we talked about off Nairaland should and will stay there as far as I'm concerned. I do not want to specify whether or not they were about certain subject matters but the issues we talked about, fun or no fun, sexual or not, educational or not - whatever it is - stays off Nairaland.

She did show me some of her pictures but the content of those also, as I've stated earlier, isn't, shouldn't and won't be Nairaland's business. She chose to send them to me, and I, on the receiving end, gave consent to accepting them without any negative ulterior motive.

We stopped talking maybe because we thought we needed to or maybe it happened naturally, but we did stop talking after a while for a while until yesterday when this issue was officially brought to my notice by her. Details of what we talked about has to do mainly with a certain thread "Michelin Vs Na2Day" which I thank Mukina very much for closing down and nothing more (don't ask me further details).

Gators, I perfectly understand where you're coming from, but please bring the attacks on Platinumnk to a stop totally. I have spoken with Plat and no further 'condemnation' will be aimed at you, not right now or anytime in the future about your association with me; and I want you both to put behind your past arguments and be friendly towards each otherm if that helps. I will not appreciate further hostility on my account.

Furthermore, I don't want to declare who was right in the course of these arguments or who wasn't, but the only thing I want right now is for peace to exist and all matters brought to rest indefinitely.

Na2Day, please drop all further criticisms and let these be over and done with, after all, this is just Nairaland. And uhm. . . what's your name sef. . . Amebono1, watch your tongue before you get whipped; this matter has nothing to do with you. It is high time you put to better use your abilities rather than tattling all over Nairaland. Don't take this as an insult, see it as a drunkard's talk - true talk.

Grandmama Gee, welcome to the show.

And Gabry, did I just see you saying you're using recycled items? What have you done with the blank check I gave you? I called my financier this morning only to find out $1,000,000.00 has been debited from my account. May I know what's going on here? Don't make me call EFCC on you after this wedding, so come here and give accounts in full details, on how you spent all the money. Thank you grin grin

And then what? Is there a criminal law that forbids a man to have a taste of a cutie like you?

And why were you shocked? You want to tell me you are not directly or indirectly involved cool wink

Young man, this is a classified wedding. Return quickly to the stands and make sure everything is in order, I have some important guests coming from Russia. . . and also ensure you have their cigarette lighters ready, they'd be smoking some nice cigars up there. Again, don't you dare - I repeat - don't you dare look at them like you've never seen oyinbo people, you hear me? angry angry Now go go go go cool

Wow!!!!! I think you've spent more than I gave you, Gabry. Let me know if there's any other outstanding bills.

Everything my bride, Plat, has requested is exactly how we both want it but I have a different list of guests - they are so numerous, so I'm going to have to name them later on - otherwise, everything else is just perfect. But wait a second, Gabry, you'll make good money from being a wedding planner. Thanks for the gesture, you're a darling kiss And I hope I can wed as many wives as possible on here too tongue

Well, all women aren't beasts after all. There are still decent ones but the crooked ones I can smell from a million miles away. If you ask me, in that guy's post, that girl is a hooker maybe not professionally but does it underneath and this guy happens to be a pawn in her little game. Respect for women does come easy though, it all depends on the woman involved and how well she commands the respect, however, if she's not a good commander she'll still get her respect from me. There's a constant k respect from me to women generally
