Ok just replied your PM. Check your email. Btw, I didn't mean to infer any incompleteness on your part-- i read your old posts a while ago and you were detailed in addressing the "insufficient funds" issue. I was just trying to reconstruct how CIC could have invented a new reason this time. Maybe they didn't read your SOP? I'm having a hard time understanding how they could be this malicious and heartless. standupguy: |
Boss, have you heard the Tupac song "the good die young"? That's my opinion about justice in the world -- it doesn't really exist. But we can always do our best and try to mitigate risks as best we can. olageeee: |
@Standupguy Dang. I'm so sorry to hear that dude. This is really perverse of CIC to have denied you for a new reason after you had addressed the insufficient funds issue. Very annoying and unethical of them! Question: did you refer to your reasons for previous denial? I'm wondering if the VO treated it as a new application without considering that you had only been denied for insufficient funds before. |
@Shyee lol @ "i might have been a gambler...and to your toast i am playing Kenny Rogers song- the Gambler. "Abeg apply to more than one school this time o. MUN is not the only cheap school but even if it were, don't be a gambler again bros. Many research masters programs provide funding. Btw, I think you are making the right move by contacting potential research supervisors even before applying. Earlier in the thread someone posted these tips on getting a research supervisor; hope it helps you. This thread is a gold mine if you use it strategically. Read read read bro! Per TRV application, when you are ready I'm sure there will be people on this thread to help you look over your SOP. And you can also always contact me. |
Dude, your question about taking a bus has been answered. @Fhemmmy and I wrote about it after your initial post. On getting a connecting flight, Google is your friend no offense . Just search "flight from Toronto to Charlottesville Prince Edward Island" for the easy answer.Edited: Ok I get your second question now. You should probably book a connecting flight from Toronto to Charlottesville before you leave Naija. If you book it when you land in Toronto, then the ticket would be super expensive! Plus, the immigration officers might give you trouble if they realize you don't have a ticket to your school; you would have to convince them that you indeed have the intention of going to school. Pardon the initial misunderstanding of your question. SantohFilz: |
Yes that will buttress your creds, although the PhD would boost your cred significantly and would up your visa chances much much more. Just wanting to leave Naija forever (lol) is ok, the VOs know that; however, they don't want an applicant who won't leave Canada should he/she not be able to legally stay there after studies (I was reading this on some obscure CIC website). This is why you need to prove to the VO that you are not desperate and that you have something to come back to in Nigeria. You will appear desperate if your studies don't show progression. A PhD would solve this problem. A research masters is 50:50 (since you already have a masters), but as long as you can explain clearly in your SOP your chances are infinitely better than with a diploma. Btw, if you really want to move out of Naija then I'm surprised you haven't read enough of this thread to find the answers to all your questions (no offense o, just being real ). I would recommend you read from page one of Part 8; this would help a lot! If you have questions after reading, do not hesistate to ask from the many helpful people here. Cheers.Edited: if you can get into a PhD program in Canada, you should totally consider it. Even if you decide to not finish it, you should be able to leave the program with a research masters after two years (at least this is how it is done in many US Phd programs in the sciences and engineering). Shyee: |
Wow, that's a quick turnaround. Don't stop praying though as these days some people get delayed after medicals. You are likely to be approved though if you sufficiently addressed the "insufficient funds" issue. judnele:lol@ the bolded. hmm... u sure it was the "devil"? ![]() |
@shyee How many PhD programs did you apply to? If you applied to just one school then that's a gambler's move! You should apply to 4-5 schools if you really want to get into a PhD program.. |
@stechi there are no guarantees for a Canada visa but you can significantly up your chances with the right strategy and documents. For info on schools, see my previous posting and don't forget to click on @richcasey's links which contain lots of key points. To best prepare a visa application strategy, I would strongly recommend you read a couple hundred pages of this thread. As a minimum, you should start reading from page one of Part 8. To become a Canada visa guru, you should additionally read one or more of Part 5, 6, and 7. Please do take the time to read read read! Best of luck. @kuzee, you are welcome. |
@kuzee Check out this here. I found it through a quick Google search. Use this different link to search for programs in Canada. To leverage a lot of info on this thread, go through the links posted by @richcasey. |
@Fhemmmy I agree to some extent. I think such trips are more fun in one's own car and when spread out over a couple days or more. I have done similar trips (within the US) but I got tired of long drives... I actually actively avoid them now. For a first time visitor to North America maybe a bus trip could be fun. But I think it would be tough to do such a 24-hour+ road trip right after a 24-hour journey to Canada from Naija. @SantohFilz |
@hayqinsbFX, totally agree bro. Canada will be a good place for your learning and imagination. America has been the same for me. I just blew my cover lol. |
Welcome to North America! Gu2015: |
Ah I'm not sure you want to do that o! I just did a quick Google search and such a bus ride will take a minimum of 16 hours in a private car, and about ~24 hours on a bus! Also, it costs about the same as flying ($200-$300). And BTW, most of the drive will likely get boring after the first few hours. Do a Google search of "bus from toronto to prince edward island" and you'll see what I'm saying. SantohFilz: Fhemmmy:Oga Fhemmmy and his gala sha. Lol. My guy when last you chop gala? Gala no really get meat anymore o! Last time I chop gala I was heavily disappointed. |
I just looked through your old posts and see that you are into civil engineering. Given your analytical mind, it makes sense that you are an engineer. You have the kind of mind that would make a good one. I'm an engineer too. hayqinsbFX: |
Wow Akin, you are quite the oracle! Can't believe your hypothesis was right. To be honest, I was wondering how you could have hypothesized so wildly and confidently without any inside information. But you turned out to be right! You are a very analytical person and have the traits to be very successful in life, no matter what country you live in. Edited: Do you have a science/engineering background? hayqinsbFX: kennykentipsy: |
You are welcome, champ! By the way, this was the same exact reason my sister was refused on her last application (well, two "insufficient funds" reasons were ticked even with more than sufficient funds in the sponsor's account). It is extremely annoying. I wonder why they didn't just ask her to bring more evidence. I'm beginning to suspect that CIC would rather reject applicants with almost-perfect (but not perfect) applications because to reapply the applicant will pay a fresh application fee thus enriching CIC's pockets. This is a perverse incentive, and it is maddening and unfair. The "denials after medicals" is another unfair and unethical trend. E go beta. ayooluwatoni: |
Ok, spend some time thinking about how to use your IT skillset for a school or reputable NGO. And then identify which school/NGO you would approach. Make sure you have a plan of exactly what you can help them with; you could also ask them what areas in which they need IT help. Tell them why you are interested in volunteering with them (don't say because you need to show it to Canada embassy). ChukkyP: |
Identify your passions and start volunteering with a reputable NGO in that area. You would put this volunteering as your current activity, with proof. Or, why not find a primary or secondary school close to you and volunteer as a teacher for some subject you are good at? Do the volunteering thing (identify a place asap) for maybe two months and then refire, but don't quit the volunteering after you refire. You could even use the volunteering thing to win the heart of the VO if in your SOP you link it with your passions. Edited: what course are you going for? ChukkyP: |
Very low probability that you would get a Canada TRV given that you already have a masters degree and are now going for a lower degree. It would be obvious to the VO (visa officer) that your main objective is to use the graduate diploma admission only for immigration purposes. Your best bet is to just apply for a PhD or a research masters. Just make sure that you would be able to convince the VO about your motivation for whatever program you apply and gain admission to. Applying for TRV with a graduate diploma (given that you already have a masters degree) will likely result in a "Purpose of Visit" denial. Shyee: |
As CoCoLav, NigerianNewbie, and deedee0 suggested, no need to liquidate the FD especially given that it is your father's. Inkblood: |
Hmm... Inkblood:Tough one. Putting the other two siblings would have been the best thing to do, but yawa might gas once they notice the discrepancy between the two applications. But if you don't put the two siblings' names, one day in the future you might want either of them to visit you in (or immigrate to) Canada and at that point it could jeopardize their visa applications once CIC notices the discrepancy. If you decide to include their names, consider attaching an explanation stating that you used an agent last time and he/she for some reason unbeknownst to you omitted their names -- you might want to phrase it as an honest oversight. The other possibility is to include their names and don't bring any attention to the discrepancy. Inkblood:If the fixed deposit matures before your resumption date, you would mention this in your SOP. If it doesn't mature before resumption date, then liquidation might be the best bet. Also, make sure the N3m fully covers your total annual tuition & expenses if you don't want to get an "insufficient funds" delay. |
Actually you may not need to go to Lagos to collect it. Try this: go to the UPS (or Fedex) office closest to you, and tell them you want to retrieve your document from VFS in Lagos. They should be able to do this if you give them an authorization letter and prepay the shipment back to you. This is what my sister did to get her passport and documents back. From the VFS Lagos website, under "Passport Transmission Services", it says: To retrieve your passport, you have the choice of; 1. Picking up the passport in person or through an authorised representative from the CVAC or; 2. Sending a prepaid self-addressed courier return envelope along with your passport and request letter daudugodswill: |
Thanks for sharing brother. I'm so sorry to hear about your delay. You have been super helpful on this thread. If there's any silver lining in your delay, it is that they only ticked "insufficient funds", which you can straightforwardly tackle in your refire. ayooluwatoni: |
I was deliberately nice (at worst neutral) in my response to you. You should appreciate that trivial questions (for which one could use google to get the answer in seconds) devalue the thread. This was my point. Lets keep the thread valuable for future readers so they can glean important nontrivial information from as many posts as possible. The ability to analyze and find information efficiently is a critical skill to have in developed countries. Cheers. badtsharpguy: |
thread derailed. |
It was so sad because I had requested the gala and was already salivating! Fhemmmy: |
I one-thousand percent agree! Fhemmmy: |
