Debroslink:As a footballer, if you are good enough, you will eventually find yourself among elite team mates. That Forlan was demoted from elite company to Europa-tier teams is an indicator of his class. And Villareal of 05-06 was mainly powered by Riquelme and Marcos Senna. How many goals did Forlan score that UCL season? A mere 3 goals and you are calling that "carrying" when he doesn't assist much. I'd say their world cup 2010 feats cancel each other. They both scored 5 goals. In fact Villa scored higher percentage of Spain's goals than Forlan did for Uruguay. Meanwhile, Villa's Euro 2008 was better than Forlan's Copa 2011. Forlan is good but not in Villa's class. |
Debroslink:Okay noted for Forlan. But funny enough, Villa won La Liga at Atletico immediately after leaving Barca and he chipped in with 13 league goals which I think is average but not flop flop like Forlan at Inter. |
Jokerman:Villa wasn't far behind in Pichichi race on the 2 occasions. Scored 25 goals when Eto won it with 26 goals. Again scored 28 goals when Forlan won it with 32 goals. More significantly, Villa won the Spanish player of the season award in 2005-06 which is a better indicator of individual impact than Pichichi. Forlan never won a player of the season award. So why can't we compare. David Villa was a reliable striker highly sought after by top clubs. Forlan was reliable for only 2 seasons and grossly inconsistent in the others. Not even in the same class for me. |
See her looking like Chioma Chefchi in the made up photo. So na so Chioma dey look without make-up? |
Moura7:Yes, Forlan played for Inter and flopped badly. |
devvy44:Simple English dey worry you oga. Pls park well, I gat no time to waste time. |
Santiago123:I get you and that's quite right. It appears like most of the guys here actually rate Forlan above Villa and I am genuinely surprised to observe that. My perception of Forlan went from extremely bad to trying to salvage career to hit and miss to decent striker with a one-off excellent season (2010). He was voted one of EPL's worst signings during his time there. For me, he was never a consistently reliable player. Compare the above with D.Villa who burst onto the world class scene competing with Eto'o for Pichichi and scoring a 35 yard glorious free kick against Inter Milan in UCL. By 2010, David Villa was already considered one of the best 3 strikers in the world which made Barca go gung-ho for him. Forlan was never viewed in this light in professional circles which is why no top club made him their priority (not back-up o) throughout his career. I'm sorry, but I even think Benzema is better than Forlan even with Diego's excellent WC 2010 and all. I wouldn't bat an eyelid if given a choice between the 2 before going for Benzema. |
OGHENAOGIE:No, you misunderstand me. Van Dijk, a defender, deserved the award cos it was very glaring to see his impact. Without his presence, see how Liverpool crumbled to pieces this season. Ruben Dias is a very good defender, but his impact is not as certainly great like Van Dijk. If Man City had not won EPL, Dias would not win the award. Meanwhile, VVD won the award even when Liverpool didn't win EPL that year. |

Before you jump in to correct my post needlessly, didn't you see my opening reference "In La Liga"? When did Forlan win trophy in La Liga? |
Santiago123:Well, if we are to tolerate that excuse, even George Weah will say he's better than Pele as he wasnt opportuned to play in a talented team like Brazil which is why he hasn't won World Cups. Forlan played for Man Utd when they were the best team in England and was woeful. And Villa did not have it easy in that Barca side, if playing in a great team automatically confers individual success. Ibrahimovic didn't succeed at Barca but went back to a lower AC Milan and excelled. For Spain, Villa was the protagonist of that greatest international side. He was not a passerby. He scored 9 goals in 2 tournaments several of them in tight matches against big teams. A trophy at the end of it all distinguishes him from a competitor with similar output. |
patrickmuf:By decent I mean he did well. Maybe my choice of word wasn't the best. Forlan had 2 very good seasons, one each with Villareal and ATM. Villa also had 2 very good seasons with Valencia. In the other seasons in between these very good seasons, Villa did better than Forlan. Forlan was having 10-goal league seasons while Villa at least chipped in 15-goals a season. I already acknowledged Forlan's excellent 2010 WC campaign for Uruguay in the post you quoted. |
Debroslink:In La Liga, D.Villa has 185 goals compared to Forlan's 128 goals, though Villa played more games. Both have similar goal ratio (0.52/0.53) in La Liga. However, David Villa has 3 league titles and Forlan Zero titles. Again in UCL, Villa has 14 goals in 47 games while Forlan has 6 goals in 46 games (both are poor stats). However, Villa has a UCL to accompany his efforts while Forlan only has an Europa Cup. Villa had least made a mark in 2011 UCL, while Forlan has nothing similar. Internationally, both have similar impact in terms of numbers. But Villa slightly edges it as he won World Cup and was also highest goal scorer when Spain won Euro 2008 (4 goals). Forlan only scored 2 goals (in 1 match only) during Uruguay's Copa 2011 win. In summary, if given a choice to choose between Prime David Villa and Prime Forlan, I think most people will go for D.Villa even though I think his time with Barca was disappointing. Villa stays in the top 5 bro. |
Congrats Ruben Dias Although I feel this EPL season didn't really have a worthy outstanding performer that ticked all the boxes. Would they have given it to B.Fernandes who many criticized went missing in the big games or Harry Kane whose team came a distant 7th? Ruben's choice was thus an award of convenience as he was from the winning team. |
Debroslink:Nah bro. Apart from scoring up to 29/30 league goals for Valencia in one season, Villa was Spain's highest goalscorer at Euros 2008 & 2012 and World Cup 2010. He also chipped in his quota for Barca's UCL win in 2011; scored a delightful goal in the final. Meanwhile, Forlan was a misfit at Man Utd, then went to Villareal to redeem himself. Did decently at Villareal and Atletico Madrid but not as good as Villa at Vàlencia. It was with Uruguay at 2010 WC that Forlan truly excelled and Copa 2011 to a lesser extent, but unfortunately Villa's input to Spain's WC and 2 Euros win trumps Forlan's Uruguay exploits. |
devvy44:How is this relevant? Lewandoski and Raul have way more UCL goals than Ronaldo De Lima. But we all know that both players cannot lace De Lima's boots in comparison. Has Benzema ever reached the level of prime Suarez of 2012 - 2016? Has Benzema ever been the best no.9 in the world? Suarez has attained that level for a few years. The very fact that Benzema has, for most of his career, been percieved as a hit and miss striker by even Madrid fans and wasn't appreciated as a top striker until the 2019/2020 season is already an indictement on Benzema in this comparison. The top 5 greatest La liga strikers in the past 20 years are Raul, Suarez, De Lima, Eto'o and David Villa. The best La liga striker in the past decade is Suarez. I believe Pu7pl3 and Fergieraww are just catching cruise with Cules and deep down know that this is not even an argument. But you appear to be genuinely deluded on this topic. |
bluebay:No, 21 is LOST. |
Larlan2012:21 is LOST, one of the first set of season films. That old man is John locke going into their safe hideout. A Nigerian Adewale Agbaje also featured well in the movie. |
Lamela's Rabona goal will win it because it's a rare technique. Although I prefer Sebastian Haller's outrageous bicycle kick to win it. |
Jokerman:Excuse..gini? I know you were one of those who liked my comment bro because deep inside you, you know it's true Simply put, Na Eyjatofakljokujokuwhatever no make us collect 3 back2back UCL trophees between 2009 - 2011 ![]() |
Lol, this Icelandic volcano again that indirectly caused Barca's semi-final UCL elimination to Inter in 2010. Barca team had to travel by road on short notice from Spain to Italy for the first leg due to closure of airspace as the volcano had triggered bad weather and visibility all over western Europe. The boys were fatigued for the match at the San Siro and duly lost the match to Mourinho's team. That their capital Reykjavyk is a tongue twister. It's pronounced as rayeeyaveek. |
Amotolongbo:Henry Thierry has won World cup, Euro cup and Confederations Cup. Yet, it's still an insult to Messi to compare Henry with him. So who's Mbappe? |
Pep, Pep, Pep; You have only one goal, one objective, one mission. Don't bottle this! And you'll be written in the stars for eternity. |
baddosky1:Lol @bolded, This is a fallacy. If Messi with his average looks opened himself up to women anyhow, trust me he would have been targeted in a scandal as well. It's more about Messi's discipline than women not gravitating towards him. Does Ryan Giggs have sex appeal? What about John Terry? Was Andy Johnson of Man City and Sunderland a hunk? Yet these guys were rocked by sex/rape scandals. Meanwhile, Kaka is so handsome, yet no scandal. It's all about personal discipline bro. |
eldoradoxx:Lol @ sky will turn blue. Have you forgotten that its Man City's colour that's sky blue. You re simply saying City will win the trophy lol |
SHEPE team Will lose ![]() |
"Everyday people, that's You and Me" ..I remember this chorus to the series' song which made me to actually like the sitcom. Ify was a good actress. I recall I always thought she didn't look too healthy, not knowing twas the grim reaper k.a cancer. RIP Ma, you've made your mark. |
andrewbaba44:Nah, I can't hate on Neymar no matter what. At least he swallowed his pride and tried to come back but Mr Bottleomeu was dragging feet. Neymar's still a wonderful player that is an asset to any team. He is not in competition with Messi. It's CR fans that try to create false narratives and stir up bad blood between them. |
CheerfulGiver:Baba thanks but e remain the why o abeg no info is bad info. Also, how best to determine which one is first grade and which na okrika grade? |
achymmania:Closed 11.30 a.m or pm? Also, pls what's the best car one can get with N1.4 - N1.6million budget for bolt? |
CheerfulGiver:Please do you drive your car yourself, or you give it out to a driver? Also, please what's the best car one can get for Bolt with a 1.5million budget? Thanks in advance. |
naptu2:True. Franco Baresi oversaw the most successful spell in Milan's history as captain during his time which covered that period. The 1989-94 team still holds the record for the longest unbeaten run in all competitions I believe. Though not a Milan fan per se, but I admired them from afar and they were my fav in Italy. |
ComputerWiz007:Lol, Indomie genkid spotted. |
