We must have been over a hundred folks in the pub that day stumping for 3SC.
How I would that Nigerians today will stump for a Nigerian club again. Somehow, we seem to be waiting for them to be as rich as Chelsea or Real before we accord them due regards. its quite sad. our league fell asleep at the same time the premier league started to boom in Nigeria. despite that, people still showed lots of interest when enyimba and Julius berger went on continental cup runs in the early 2000s however, the league couldn't leverage on it. at some point, we didn't even have a professional league. there have been improvements recently. but I'm afraid, the European leagues have done too much damage to local consumption. NgeneUkwenu: Buhari wasn't president when factories in Ikeja began browning off and selling their facilities to churches.
He wan't here when 80% of SME died away and the rest went on life support.
Buhari wasn't president when landlords were being watched charging rent in US dollars and stores were selling in hard currency.
Buhari wasn't president when wheat farming collapsed and Cote d'Ivore overtook us in Cocoa production.
Buhari didn't destroy Iwopin paper mill or ALSCON in Ikot-Abasi, a single factory that at a point brought in 30% equivalent of what we got from oil.
Buhari didn't take us from net exporter of oil palm products to lazy importers of the same.
Buhari didn't make us importers of petrol and diesel nor is he responsible for killing of the textile industry.
He didn't destroy our forest resources or ran down power stations like Egbin until only three out of twelve turbines work.
People shout policy but there is no policy that can transform a 'post-war' economic environment with the snap of the finger and government should just tell the people that this thing is what it is.
Government also has to water down expectations on oil prices ever rising above 55 dollars because it is just not possible in the age of Shale and renewables.
This nation is cornered and it has no choice than to reform it's lifestyles and go back to work.
It has to reform it's justice system such that it can jail it's thieves and reward those who do things right. We are refusing to allow hardship nudge us in the right direction but prefer to explain our woes as a personal failure of Buhari to draft policy from sheer air.
They were trampling people to death on job queues before he came on board.
Where are your farms to save you from food importation or your refineries to save you from seeking dollars to import fuel?
Where are your schools to educate your children without sending them to foreign universities when you can afford it?
He isn't two years in control yet and I believe he deserves a little more understanding given the gradients of the point where he took over.
Buhari met all these things that way, plus a devastating war that devoured the nation from a region and we have the choice of working with him to restore and rebuild the country or allow ourselves to get us into false sentiments, take advantage of us to return us to the years of the locust. |

MrAwePresident: 7. OAU have poor employment network
I have worked in two reputable Oil companies as a contract staff. These two companies didn't employ a single fresh OAU graduate. The employees were mainly made up of fresh convenant, uniben, UI and Unilag graduates. When I finally met an OAU graduate in the company he had graduated about 20 years ago.
When I say fresh someone that graduated at most 5 Years ago from their university To start with, you have a point regarding the paucity of OAU students in the petroleum industry. OAU does not have a department of Petroleum Engineering. UI does. I think LAG has one too. so those schools have and edge in that field. Regarding the living conditions. you're very right. Hostels are over crowded and toilets stink like hell. the hostels are practically wasting away. What the school management does is 'renopainting' and not renovation. sadly, that is true for most schools I've visited. apart from UI. I think their hostels were renovated recently. I enjoyed the few days I spent with my brother there last year However, you are bang out of order on the other points. education is supposed to be as cheap as possible. especially in a country like ours where the majority of the population can't even afford the basic necessities of life. I paid about 20k in tuition fees throughout my stay in Ife. that's 5k per session for social sciences. I paid about 3k for accommodation at Angola and fajuyi halls. what a wow! that's how its supposed to be. Not everybody can afford to pay Princeton fees in our private universities. for your info, I paid 50 naira to watch olamide perform at amphitheatre in my final year. and it wasn't worth it. he was obviously too drunk or high to perform. Its all about value for money regarding grades. you're just not serious. regarding size of the school. I don't even know what to type. I hereby recommend that the OP be taken to Awo hall and given a full dosage of SMS (scientific maximum shishi) |

DBannedAssassin: I think this is just for show. It is a fact that the constitution allows the people to bear light arms for self defence, if the need be.
Our political and security structures creates a demand it (Most times fences and barb wires are not enough). So what is wrong with this shipment?
The only reasonable thing is that the man did not have papers to bring in the weapons into the country.
But if he did not have the papers, why did he use the warf? Nigerias borders are as porous as a basket.
Left for me, the shipment is legit, and perhaps is one attention seeking low life customs junior officer that blew whistle to his oga (who definetely would be from the same tribal integration).
I repeat this is just scape goating the ibo man. Pump actions are allowed necessities by the police force. One cannot export such without seeing the right papers.
This is just a show off. the constitution allows civilians to carry arms. Yes! But does the constitution allow you to buy arms from privately owned gun stores? Are you telling me that the guys are taking the guns yo their shop at Ikeja and civilians will go and buy there? come on! |

A shotgun is better for close range action. that's why its usually used by armed robbers and night watchmen. its impact is much. instead of the bullet piercing body parts, it blows off the part. but it is short range and you have to manually pump the gun after each shot |

These are shotguns (pump action), they are not meant for civilians 1) The shotguns were concealed with steel doors. that's and indication they were not properly cleared. 2) Civilians are permitted to own small fire arms. Yes! But I think you can only get the licence and buy from the military. there are no authorized privately owned gun shops in Nigeria as at present. This consignment doesn't look like it belongs to the military Correct me, if I'm wrong pls |

Na wa. Are you going to compare Harry Redknapp's history before Spurs to Pochettino? A guy who coached Rio Ferdinand and Lampard when they were young. Hey. How many years has Pochettino stayed in Spurs to make top four four times.
Tottenham fought bravely for the top position with a weaker squad than the top EPL teams. Genius. I don't think you get my point. people have done better than pochettino without being called a genius. take redknapp for example, he took over from juande Ramos with spurs bottom of the league. next season, he made the top four and was named premier league manager of the year! Now, that's an achievement pochettino can't boast of. anyway, you have the right to define a genius in anyway u deem fit. so I will drop this argument. cheers! |

colossus2: What did Redknapp achieve with Spurs? goid question 1st season - took them from bottom of the table to 8th place. lost the league cup final to man utd. 2nd season - finished 4th. the first time spurs had made the top four in ages. he was named premier league manager of the year for that achievement. 3rd season - finished 5th. made the quarter finals of the champions league 4th season - finished fourth again. Now, that's not much of an achievement. But pochettino has not done anything more than this and he is being labelled a genius. Abegi! |

TheGoodJoe: Genius tag goes beyond just result in Europe. What about his understanding of the game. His set up. It is not a fluke he has used relatively weaker sides to end two great runs this season.
His work with Tottenham in the league is not good, it is genius. Alex Ferguson got knocked out in group stage in the Champions league with a more expensive squad than others in his group. Does that make Ferguson good and not a genius?
Pochettino has transformed Tottenham to genuine title contenders. That is not just good but genius. Harry redknapp made the top four twice, won the league cup and made it to the quarter finals of the champions league. with a far cheaper spurs team than this. only bale and modric were the truly top class players he had. Pochettino has a far better squad than redknapp had. more balanced. more expensive. more depth. Yet, he hasn't achieved what redknapp achieved. and u call him a genius. for what? he is doing well in the league. no doubt. even though, I choose to ignore the meltdown that took him from tittle challenger to 3rd place towards the end of last season. however, I regard the champions league as the pinnacle of football in Europe. and he couldn't take spurs out of his group despite having the best and most expensive squad in the group. that's not exactly genius. is it? you mention Ferguson being knocked out at the group stages. yes. but he won it twice. made the latter stages countless times. my problem with pochettino is that he got knocked out at the first attempt. more importantly, he STUPIDLY rested players away against Monaco in a must win match. of course he want on to lose the next league game against Chelsea. now, that's a total lack of ambition in Europe. sheer stupidity you have the right to consider him a genius. but to me, he is just a good manager. |

They are geniuses. Ranieri, Conte, Pochettino etc. What Pochettino is doing is not easy. Mourinho could not make the best out of De Bruyne, Salah, Cuadrado and others. That does not make him less a genius. Sissoko and Jansen are not in the league of big and expensive players. When we talk of the likes of Pogba and David Luiz. I insist that pochetino has done nothing to warrant the genius tag. he might not have the most expensive squad in the world, but its not always about money. mourinho's champions league winning Porto side did not cost half of what this spurs side cost. simeone's athletico side are now a force in Europe, and the squad does not cost as much as spurs' own. I wouldn't argue if u called pochettino a genius if he made the same impact as those two. but for doing well in the league. hell no! harry redknapp did as well in the league and far better in the cups. yet, he is no genius |

He is doing a wonderful job. Last season he made a good title chase in the EPL. With his limited resources, give him his props. sissoko and jansenn didn't come cheap and they have been rubbish this season. apart from alderweireld and maybe wanyama, none of his signings have shone consistently. anyway, I don't think it should Galway's be about that. ranieri beat him and others to the league with a squad that cost next to nothing. thats what I would call a bit of genius |

You can not expect magic with the quality of players he works with. For instance, making Harry Kane, Dier and others from the academy to regulars, it will take time to pull off a European successful feat.
What is important is that he is doing an amazing job with the limited resources available to him. That is genius. I'm not expecting magic from him. I'm not expecting him to win the champions league. qualification from that group is not too much to ask nau. He rested players for the Europa league clash against Dortmund last season and got trashed. he rested players away against Monaco this season and got knocked out. that's a serious lack of ambition to me. you only join the league of elite manager when you have made your mark in Europe. By the way, Harry Kane is the only academy graduate that is a regular in that team. Poch bought dier, alderwiereld, wanyama, son, sissokho and jansenn for good money. he should be aiming higher than doing well in the league, qualifying for Europe and then getting knocked out. |
