Shake-up is necessary, but I hope CBN can handle this together with the current Naira exchange rate crisis they are still battling with. |
Breaking!!! President Bola Tinubu has announced a shake-up in the oil sector to ensure transparency amid concerns about declining oil revenue and opaque practices within the NNPC. The President has directed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to take over responsibility for crude oil sales from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). Previously, the NNPC solely controlled crude oil sales, only submitting accounts to the federal government. Critics have long argued that this arrangement lacked transparency, allowing the NNPC to underreport earnings. The new directive requires the NNPC to submit all receipts for crude oil sales to the CBN for vetting and documentation. This aims to close any potential gaps in reporting and ensure accurate records of oil revenue. CBN Governor, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, had last week said the collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and the NNPCL is to ensure that all foreign inflows are returned to the Central Bank. “This coordinated effort will greatly enhance the Bank’s foreign exchange flows and contribute to the accretion of reserves,” he said. tollyboy5:They are doing a great job so long as there’s no political witch-hunting. But my question remains: Where have they invested the past recovered looted funds? We need accountability so they’re not relooted in one way or the other. |
How much has EFCC recovered to date and where are they invested in? Who knows? |
As the tenure of former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello ended on January 27, 2024, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is reportedly preparing to invite him for questioning. With Bello no longer protected by the immunity afforded to governors, the EFCC and other security agencies are expected to launch an investigation into his eight-year administration. Daily Times reports that the move comes after an earlier suit seeking the forfeiture of properties and funds linked to Bello was struck out, citing his immunity from prosecution. Recall that the EFCC filed an appeal, challenging the Wednesday, April 26, 2023 ruling of Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, that struck out its suit seeking the forfeiture of 14 properties as well as the sum of N400m linked to the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, citing his immunity from prosecution under the 1999 constitution. Suspected terrorists have killed three persons, including 65-year-old Imam, Bashiru Jibrin, at Yandaka village, Batsari Local Council of Katsina State. The gunmen, who reportedly struck on Tuesday at about 9.00 pm, also abducted more than 32 persons, including women and children. Among the deceased was a 12-year-old boy identified as Haruna. Some of the injured were still receiving hospital treatment until press time yesterday. A source said the terrorists, armed with automatic weapons, stormed the community in their numbers and moved from house to house, dragging out hapless residents. Residents said the intervention of security operatives limited the duration of the operation by the bandits as they stormed the community in large numbers. The residents further revealed that some victims were able to escape from the bandits while being forcefully taken away in the forest. The spokesman for the Katsina State Police Command, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, confirmed the incident. The spokesman said, “Two incidents occurred simultaneously at Dan Alhaji and at Yandaka. President Bola Tinubu’s special adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga has said refuted the rumor that the president plans to relocate the federal capital to Lagos. According to a statement, Onanuga who said there was no iota of truth in the allegation by mischief-makers, bent on fueling needless ethnic mistrust, however, warned against fanning the dangerous politics of pitting the north against south. He insisted that the status of Abuja as the Federal Capital had come to stay, noting that it was backed by law. “We consider it necessary to inform Nigerians that there is no iota of truth in the interpretations given to the directives in some quarters and the unfounded claims and rumours that President Bola Tinubu was planning to relocate the Federal Capital back to Lagos. “These rumours, which first surfaced during the electioneering last year, was sponsored by political opponents looking for all manners of weapons to prevent Asiwaju Tinubu from being elected as president by a section of the country,” Onanuga said. We need to join hands together to build a better society, a system that works. If things work well, there won't be agitation anywhere - East, West, North, or South. |
There are strong indications that leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, seems to have abandoned his secession agenda. In a recent letter conveyed by his brother, Prince Emmanuel after a meeting with the IPOB leader at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters, Kanu was quoted to have said that he is not opposed to any “genuine restructuring” of Nigeria along the lines of the 1963 Constitution. Kanu insisted that those opposed to the holistic restructuring of Nigeria should have a change of heart. Kanu’s letter partly reads: “We are not averse to the genuine restructuring of the country. We know that the country cannot grow or make progress under the current unworking unitary structure. The facts are clear for all to see. “Our position remains the same as our submission in the presence of Prof. Ben Nwabueze, and Evangelist Elliot Ugochukwu-Uko on 30th August 2017 at the meeting with the South East Governors in Enugu. We have no reason to add or subtract from our position six years ago. “We reiterate that we are not opposed to a consensual but wholesome restructuring of the country along the 1963 constitution. We need development…and positive improvement in people’s lives. There should be a total overhaul of NDDC the entire system. So much corruption in the news about NDDC. |
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said he influenced Victor Antai’s appointment as Executive Director, Projects (EDP) on the board of the Niger Development Commission (NDDC) because does not eat alone. Akpabio made the comment at Eket during his weekend’s tour of Akwa Ibom senatorial district. The move is part of his plans to bridge divisions in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state and assert supremacy over Akwa Ibom politics ahead of 2027. The former Akwa Ibom governor also bragged before the NDDC Project Director that his failed bid to be Deputy Governor under APC in the 2023 governorship election in the state would have produced a different result if he (Antai) had not alienated him (Akpabio) from his campaigns at the time. The Senate President told the EDP, NDDC, “The entire Eket Senatorial District should feel the impact of why you are there. You have enough resources in NDDC to carry the people along. I am not a fool. I brought you out because I know that you are a man that does not want to eat alone.” More.. https://latestnewsng.com/2024/01/he-does-not-eat-alone-akpabio-reveals-why-he-influenced-akwa-ibom-nominee-into-nddc/

Thank you for not killing him |
Former President Muhammadu Buhari says that bringing back Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to face trial in Nigeria was a an act of favour. This was contained in a recently released book authored by Buhari’s spokesperson, Femi Adesina. Adesina narrated how a group known as Highly-Respected Igbo Greats, led by Mbazulike Ameachi, a first republic minister of aviation, pleaded with the former president to release Kanu. Buhari said the federal government, on his watch, had the option to eliminate Kanu, but it was thought that bringing him back to Nigeria to face trial was the best option for all parties. In the past six years, I have developed a system in which I don’t interfere with the judiciary,” Buhari was quoted as saying. “Let him make his case in court instead of giving a terrible impression of the country from outside. That was why in the case of Kanu, I said the best was to subject him to the system. “I feel it is a favour to give him (Kanu) that opportunity. Government could have mobilized to eliminate him where he was, but we did not do that. More https://latestnewsng.com/2024/01/buhari-nnamdi-kanu-would-have-been-killed-i-saved-him/

Kidnappers have released Late Nabeeha Al-Kadriyah’s remaining four siblings who were abducted alongside their father early this month. The girls arrived their Abuja residence late Saturday, January 20, 2024. It was gathered that security operatives escorted them home, where they were received by family members. The four victims are Najeeba, a 500-level Quantity Surveying student, her younger sister Nadherah, 300-level Zoology student, both of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria and their twin sisters, Habeeba and Haneesa. It was gathered that although the N100 million ransom placed on them had since been paid, the bandits held on to them for days putting the family in suspense until Saturday night. In a statement signed by Sherifdeen Al-Kadriyah, the family appreciated Nigerians for standing by them during the trying and traumatic period. “Words cannot express the immense gratitude and relief we feel at this moment. It is a true testament to the power of faith and the unwavering support and prayers from every one of you. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank Allah for His mercy and guidance throughout this difficult time,” the statement read. “However, amidst our celebration and gratitude, we must remember and pray for those who have lost their lives during this process. Their sacrifices must not go unnoticed, and their families must be in our prayers and thoughts. “May Allah grant them the highest ranks in Jannah, enveloping them with His mercy and forgiveness. May He bring comfort and peace to their grieving families, providing them with strength to endure their loss. “Our beloved daughters have shown remarkable strength and resilience, and we are overjoyed to have them back in our arms. Their bravery and courage during their time held captive will forever inspire us all. May Allah bless and protect every one of these incredible young women and grant them emotional healing and strength in the days to come”. Recall that the abductors had given a deadline for the payment of ransom, and failure of the family to meet their demand led to the killing of Nabeeha. After killing the victim, the bandits raised the ransom from N60 million to N100 million and threatened to kill the remaining four sisters of their demand was not met within the shortest possible time. An unidentified woman protesting naked was on Friday shot in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, while protesting against the Supreme Court’s verdict that upheld the election of Governor Abdullahi Sule. Protests broke out in Lafia and other parts of the State over the court verdict, which threw out the case of Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Emmanuel Ombugadu. In a video sighted on X, the woman was shot walking naked and alone when an unidentified person shot at her. A background voice commenting in Hausa language after the woman fell said, “Lafia has become what it has become.” Meanwhile, the Governor appealed for calm in the State, urging the citizens to respect democracy and be law-abiding. Speaking to State House correspondents after the apex Court verdict, Governor Sule thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the role he played in the apex court judgement, saying that the President has ensured fairness without due interference in the justice system. “We must thank Mr President, that is what brought us here. We thank him for the role he has continued to play in all of these by ensuring that fairness is done without due interference, allowing the justice system to work the way it is supposed to work so we must express our appreciation to him for doing all that and now all the issues as far as elections are concerned are over today. “As far as we are concerned, we have won at the Court of Appeal. We also won with the five justices led by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun; we also had the five justices; they were in support of us, that is why.” More pics https://latestnewsng.com/2024/01/nasarawa-woman-protesting-naked-against-sules-scourt-victory-shot-at/
