Politics‘deep Talks Ongoing’ – SGF Akume Meets Ortom As Pdp’s G-5 Plots Defection To APC by thisweekng(op): 11:33am On Jul 02, 2023
Deep talks’ have reportedly commenced that would see the five aggrieved Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders under the aegis of the G-5 dump the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general election.

Naija News reports that G-5 is made up of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and former governors Nyesom Wike, Okezie Ikpeazu, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and Samuel Ortom of Rivers, Abia, Enugu, and Benue states respectively.

Recall that the G5 had refused to back the presidential candidate of their party, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, demanding the removal of the now-suspended PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.

Wike and Makinde reportedly backed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who won the February 25th presidential election, while Ortom openly threw his weight behind Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

According to Sunday PUNCH, there have been ongoing moves by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, to lure the G5 to the APC.

Wike, the leader of the group, has visited Tinubu at the Presidential Villa multiple times after the May 29 inauguration.

Speaking to the aforementioned platform, a former Principal Special Assistant to Ortom, Raymond Magen, disclosed that “Deep talks” were ongoing between the APC and the G5.

He stated that the discussions could lead to the defection of the aggrieved PDP leaders in the months ahead.

Magen said, “They are talking on a consistent basis with the APC. These are not mere talks but deep-seated conversations between the PDP leaders and the ruling party. They may be joining the APC because there are no indications that they are still interested in what is going on in their party.”

The former PSA added, “The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, for instance, has been talking to Ortom. The talks are deepening and at the end, G-5 members are expected to take a joint decision.”

On his part, a member of the PDP National Executive Committee, Diran Odeyemi, said Tinubu’s upcoming appointments would reveal whether some of the G-5 leaders are still part of the PDP.

He stated, “We have heard their utterances recently and they are indicative of where their hearts are. In the appointments to be made, it appears some of them may join the new government, and if that happens, it means they are already thinking about life without PDP.

“By and large, I think some of them will join the APC. They are not hiding it, just as they are no longer showing concern about the issues concerning their party. They are disappointed that their counsel was largely ignored by the PDP and now that what they feared (defeat) has come to pass; it is clear their focus is elsewhere.”

“Even though it is too early to say what they are likely to do, it is all glaring for us to see where their treasures are now,” he added.

Foreign Affairs“ABOMINATION” Mexican Mayo Got Married To A Reptile by thisweekng(op): 11:19am On Jul 02, 2023
Victor Hugo Sosa, the mayor of San Pedro Huamelula, a town in southern Mexico, has married a female crocodile in a traditional rite to bring good fortune to his people.
The reptile, named Alicia Adriana, represents the “princess girl” in local lore, AFP news agency reports.

According to the report, this marriage rit¥al has been practiced for 230 years to commemorate the peace between the Chontal and Huave Indigenous groups. The mayor, embodying the Chontal king, weds the reptile, symbolizing the union of the two cultures.
The wedding ceremony allows the communities to connect with the earth and seek blessings for rain, crop germination, and harmony.

Speaking during the rit¥al, the mayor said: “I accept responsibility because we love each other. That is what is important. You can’t have a marriage without love… I yield to marriage with the princess girl.”

Jaime Zarate, the chronicler of San Pedro Huamelula, explained that: “The wedding allows the sides to link with what is the emblem of Mother Earth, asking the all-powerful for rain, the germination of the seed, all those things that are peace and harmony for the Chontal man.”

Prior to the ceremony, the reptile is taken to people’s houses for dancing. The crocodile wears elaborate attire and has its snout bound shut for safety. The wedding takes place at the town hall, where a local fisherman expresses hopes for good fishing and prosperity.
The mayor dances with the reptile bride, and the event celebrates the union of cultures, bringing happiness to the people. The ceremony concludes with the mayor planting a kiss on the reptile’s snout.

BusinessEmefiele Apologizes To Nigerians For Online Transaction Failures (Video) by thisweekng(op): 1:23pm On Mar 22, 2023

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=My-ewLFkTtw

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, has apologised to Nigerians for the rise in failed electronic banking transactions.
Nigerians have suffered hardships while conducting e-transactions after the CBN implemented the Naira redesign policy.

The CBN boss addressed this at the end of the two-day monetary policy committee meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, March 22.

Emefiele said: “I must apologise. Yes, online channels fail. But no doubt it is as a result of the deluge of online transactions that hit the banking industry. But it is being resolved.

“On a daily basis, our payments system management department monitor the online payment platforms so as to make sure that when there is a downtime, they are quickly resolved so that transactions can go on smoothly.”

He also praised fintechs for facilitating smooth transactions for Nigerians by reducing the strain on traditional banks.

On money supply, Emefiele said the implementation of the naira redesign policy has resulted in the reduction in currency outside the banks.

He said: “At the beginning of the naira redesign policy we said that there was about N3.23 trillion in circulation out of which only N500 billion was held in the banking system, while N2.73 trillion was outside the banks.

“It was published yesterday that currency in circulation is close to N1 trillion. CBN will continue to pump the newly redesigned currency into the market.

“The truth is that at some point we will need to reassess to know whether the currency in circulation has attained an optimal level so as to put in place measures to ensure that we don’t go to the level where we were when people kept money outside the banking system for their own benefits.”
