He made this known at a programme on Channels TV, Politics Today, on Tuesday. Fayose said, “I am a former governor. I queue behind sitting governors, and when they go to meetings, I am not part of the meeting. My position is when I follow people. I am totally in submission. “ I am not desperate for any appointment. I have been governor twice. I am contented but for anybody to say he will unseat Ahmed Bola Tinubu, you are daydreaming. The Finland-based disciple of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, Simon Ekpa who insisted there would be a sit-at-home in the Southeast during elections and called for a boycott of the exercise, has been arrested by the Finnish authorities. Finland authorities on Thursday arrested a man said to be a Nigerian popular separatist agitator, Simon Ekpa. According to a Finland news outlet HS, the police escorted the separatist out of his apartment in Lahti. The platform claimed that they had gone to Ekpa’s residence for an interview but to their surprise, the Finland police, KRP, answered when the HS team rang the separatist bell. The arrest is coming 2 days to the Presidential and National Assembly general election in Nigeria. The HS said the KRP prevented their team from entering Ekpa’s apartment and said that the interview would be moved “to the future”. Adams Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo State, claims that Godwin Obaseki, the current governor of the state, is supporting the revised naira policy put out by Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), because he needs money from him. Speaking to some reporters in Benin City, Oshiomhole remarked that neither his successor nor any other citizen has the authority to order his arrest. He argued that his position was one of the factors contributing to people’s reservations about state police, which certain state governors could easily misuse. Speaking during an interview with Vanguard, Oshiomhole claimed that Obaseki had embarrassed Emefiele when he claimed that he printed billions of naira to share for states by way of a Federation Account. He stated that after Obaseki realized his need for cash, he decided to jump ship and support the cashless policy. According to him, “I think Obaseki after embarrassing the Central Bank Governor, Emefiele, when he accused him sometime last year or the year before of printing hundreds of billions of Naira to share for states by way of Federation Account and that Emefiele’s policies are going to destroy the Naira even as he admitted that the money was being shared to state Governments, I think he realized that election is coming, Obaseki needs cash and who will give him this cash, o yes the person who has given him before, he took billions from the Central Bank in the name of Agriculture. Ask Obaseki to show you where the farms are. “A man who has been abusing the Federal Government, abusing Buhari, abusing anything Federal suddenly decided that a policy that I have denounced even as a former chairman of APC and I did not denounce it secretly, I denounced it on national television is now what he supports.” https://thisweekng.com/2023/02/after-embarrassing-emefiele-buhari-you-decide-to-jump-ship-because-of-money-oshiomhole-blasts-obaseki/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zg8c3ZdE4pw Babatunde Fashola has denied promising that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will fix power supply issues in six months. Several reports claimed that the Minister of Works and Housing promised in the lead-up to the 2015 election that if voted in, the APC would solve Nigeria’s power challenge. The reports went further to claim that Fashola urged Nigerians to “stone” him if the promise was not kept. But the minister has denied making such a statement, describing it as a “lie that I allowed”. “One of the things that were said about me was that I said we would electrify Nigeria in six months,” Fashola said during a Channels Television’s election show The 2023 Verdict on Monday. “It was a lie that I allowed to run until the day I asked my media men to play the tape back and since then that lie has gone.” The minister said he could not have made the comment since the tone did not align with his personality. “I know that in the way I speak, I don’t use words like stone. I am not even a violent person. Stone is violence. I don’t use those kinds of words. They are not part of my vocabulary,” he added. ‘Not Delivering Results’ Fashola also decried the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) naira swap policy, saying public officeholders should review their plans if they are not producing the right results. “I empathise with those challenges but some of them are the result of policy and it is the responsibility of public servants, especially those responsible for those policies to look back and say, ‘Did we intend to cause this pain?’ “And if the policy is not working, perhaps you have to readjust and also ask yourself whether you thought this through. As a public officer, before and now, I have had cause to reverse myself, when I saw that my policies were causing unintended results. “So, I have no responsibility in those two areas and therefore I cannot speak to the details of the facts that are available to the policymakers but the important thing is that those policies are not yet delivering the results and are delivering a lot of inconvenience for [people],” he said. https://thisweekng.com/2023/02/fashola-denies-promising-apc-will-fix-power-in-six-months-video/

The Student Union Government (SUG) of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Imo state, has said Sharon Ogechi Okoroafor, the young lady who in a video, attributed her graduation success to God and her pu**y, is not a student of the school. Okoroafor apologized to the institution after the video went viral, claiming that said she suffered a slip of the tongue as what she meant to say was God and popsy (her father) not p*ssy, helped her to graduate from the Polytechnic. In a statement released, the SUG president of the institution, Ahaneku Valentine, said Okoroafor’s action was sacrilegious and condemnable. He stated that Okoroafor did not have a matriculation number with the school and also doesn’t have any research project let alone a supervisor. We have noted with grave concern a viral video of a lady claiming to be a student of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, our great institution and noble alma mater. We have conducted a background check on the said student who goes by the name, Sharon Ogechi Okoroafor from Ngor-Okpala LGA of Imo State. We wish to state, thus, that the Student Union Government views this video as sacrilegious and condemnable. Also, the said Sharon is not a bonafide student of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede because she has no Registration (Matriculation) Number. She also has no project or research supervisor to show she has graduated. Indeed, the purported student never joined others to do the defense which brought them to school because she had no work to defend. In fact, reports have it that she only came to take valedictory photos with her so-called coursemates. Anyone can gatecrash in lectures but only a student who has been duly registered and screened by the institution is a genuine student.? The student union further said the institution is a reputable one, and cannot condone indiscipline and immorality. Our institution is a reputable brand across the nation, having been rated best-performing polytechnic, and our Rector as best Rector five times. It is the same institution that has produced great minds and leaders. We can therefore not allow the name of our great institution to be taken to the mud by the accusations of a base character. We, therefore, urge Miss Sharon Okoroafor to stop forthwith in her fraudulent claims that she is a student of Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri. Already she has caused great damage to the sensibilities of noble students of the polytechnic and those of the entire Nigerian students nationwide. We leave her in the hands of posterity to judge.? https://thisweekng.com/2023/02/01/she-is-not-a-student-of-our-school-imo-polytechnic-sug-disowns-lady-who-went-viral-for-attributing-her-graduation-from-the-school-to-god-and-her-py/

Nasir El-Rufai, the governor of Kaduna State, asserted on Wednesday that Bola Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate, is being opposed by some individuals in Aso Rock. El-Rufai claims that the opposition to Tinubu is due to the fact that their favored candidate for president was defeated in the APC primaries. El-Rufai asserted that those individuals are attempting to ensure that the ruling party loses the upcoming presidential election. This was revealed by the governor of Kaduna State during an interview that aired on Channels TV on Wednesday. El-Rufai revealed this while taking questions for the Sunrise Daily program on Channels Television. The governor said those individual elements are hiding behind President Muhammadu Buhari’s desire to do what he thinks is right. He said, “I believe there are elements in the Villa that want us to lose the election because they didn’t get their way; they had their candidate. Their candidate did not win the primaries. “They are trying to get us to lose the election, and they are hiding behind the president’s desire to do what he thinks is right. I will give two examples: this petroleum subsidy, which is costing the country trillions of Naira, was something that we all agreed would be removed. In fact, I had a discussion with the president and showed him why it had to go. Because how can you have a capital budget of N200b for federal roads and then spend N2 Trillion on petroleum subsidy? This was a conversation I had with the president in 2021 when the subsidy thing started rising. He was convinced. We left. It changed. Everyone in the government agreed, and it changed. “The second example I will give is this currency redesign. You have to understand the president. People are blaming the Governor of the Central Bank for the currency redesign, but No. You have to go back and look at the first outing of Buhari as president. He did this; the Buhari, Idiagbon regime changed our currency and did it in secrecy with a view to catching those that are stashing away illicit funds. It is a very good intention. The president has his right. But doing it at this time within the allotted time does not make any political or economic sense.” https://thisweekng.com/2023/02/01/why-powers-in-aso-rock-are-working-against-tinubu-el-rufai/

Alhassan Bawu, the Labour Party’s (LP) campaign director in Bauchi State for presidential candidate Peter Obi, has left the party ahead of the 2023 presidential election. Bawu defected to the People’s Democratic Party from the LP (PDP). The absence of LP structure at the State, local, and ward levels, according to Bawu, who defected to the PDP alongside other party executives in the Northeast, was to blame for the choice. Announcing his defection in Bauchi on Tuesday, he said: “The LP is not strong and won’t be able to win a single seat in the region.’’ “We don’t want to waste our votes and we want to use this time to mobilize votes to who can win the election,” he added. He said that all party chairman, state and zonal officers, as well as national officers from the zone, had defected to support Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential candidate. As Pantami and others abandon the Labour Party and support Atiku, Peter Obi’s campaign suffers a major setback. The defection of Muhammad Pantami, the Northeast LP presidential campaign spokesperson, and other officials to the PDP has severely hampered Peter Obi’s bid for the presidency. At a press conference on Tuesday, Pantami and other senior members of the Obi-Datti campaign reportedly declared their defection, according to Naija News. The former Labour Party chieftains publicly declared their support for the PDP’s presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. The LP chieftains accused Peter Obi and the party of tribalism, godfatherism, and lack of internal democracy. Pantami said: “Based on the aforementioned issues raised, we the leaders, and stakeholders of about four million voters in the North East states of Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi Gombe, and Borno, resolved to quit from the LP and resolved to declare our full support to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the PDP.” According to him, the mainstream political decisions of the party and the presidential campaign council are tilted towards a particular region, the southern part of the country, thereby sideling northerners. https://thisweekng.com/2023/02/01/peter-obi-faces-more-troubles-as-campaign-director-quits/

Online images of Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), testifying before the House of Representatives’ special committee looking into the shortage of the new naira notes have surfaced. The CBN governor finally decided to address the legislators on Tuesday regarding the cashless policy and deadline for the replacement of old currency notes after repeated unsuccessful attempts to appear before the committee. The CBN chief finally showed up before the committee today after the House threatened to issue an arrest warrant today to force him to appear under the terms of section 89(1)(d) of the Constitution. Emefiele entered a brief executive session with the Committee led by Hon. Ado Doguwa after arriving with a few CBN directors and his assistants. After spending more than an hour behind closed doors, the meeting, which is taking place at the National Assembly compound, started about 12:05 p.m.Recall that on Thursday, House Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila said he wouldn’t think twice about asking Usman Baba, the Inspector General of Police, to issue an arrest warrant for Emefiele in order to compel the head of the central bank to appear before the House. On Tuesday during plenary, Gbajabiamila is anticipated to sign the arrest warrant against the CBN governor. Ben Kalu, the chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, confirmed the news in an interview with the Tribune. Kalu disclosed that the majority leader in the house, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa met with President Muhammadu Buhari where he briefed on the need for Emefiele to appear before the house over the new cash withdrawal limit and cash swap policy. He further stated that Emefiele had always acted without briefing the Parliament on the policies reeled out. An Ebubeagu operative was shot dead at the venue of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally in the Isu community, in the Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. The slain operative, identified as Ajason Aja was killed by a yet to be identified person at the rally held on Saturday, January 28, 2023. It was gathered that the deceased and his colleagues were part of the Ebubeagu team drafted to the community to provide security at the APC governorship rally. After the rally, the team was directed to secure the APC flags for subsequent rallies when an altercation occurred between Mr. Aja and the suspect over the sharing of money. During the altercation, Mr. Aja rushed for his rifle, but the other man was said to have swiftly pulled a pistol, and shot him in the head. Unfortunately, Aja died on the spot. Ebubeagu Commander in Ebonyi State, Friday Nnana-Ujor, who confirmed the death of Aja on Monday, January 30, however, said the attacker was not an operative of the security outfit. “No, it was not an Ebubeagu person that shot him.” It was people who packed (their car) behind a Sienna bus that killed him. The person who did that was sent to do so. “People are thinking that it was an Ebubeagu personnel that killed the person, but it is not true,” he said. “It is because the gun they used in killing the person was pump action.” No Ebubeagu person goes to the rally ground with arms,” Mr Nnana-Ujor added. https://thisweekng.com/2023/01/31/ebubeagu-operative-shot-dead-at-apc-campaign-ground-in-ebonyi/
