https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AaRvkaMS1D0 Chaos ensued this morning along the bustling Lagos-Badagry Expressway as a group of defiant okada (motorcycle) riders, boldly flouting traffic regulations, abruptly abandoned their motorcycles and passengers upon sighting the convoy of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Eyewitnesses reported that the unruly riders, who were maneuvering one way in reckless disregard for traffic laws, hastily dismounted from their bikes and scattered into nearby alleys as the governor's convoy approached. The daring act prompted swift action from the security detail accompanying the governor. Among the apprehended offenders was an individual who identified himself as a lance corporal in the Nigerian Army. Governor Sanwo-Olu's security personnel detained the alleged soldier, along with his motorcycle, raising concerns about the audacity of uniformed personnel participating in illegal activities.

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, on Monday said his party, in 2024, will adjust to a new role as Nigeria’s main opposition party. Obi, in his New Year Message, said LP will remain firmly in opposition and keep the All Progressives Congress (APC) on its toes to protect the interest of Nigerians. The former Governor of Anambra State said, “As Nigeria is the only country we have, deeply endowed but lacking good leadership over the years, we will continue to seek a new Nigeria that we know is possible.” According to him, a new Nigeria is possible despite the numerous yet-to-be-fulfilled aspirations of citizens. Expressing his heartfelt and warmest greetings to all Nigerians, Obi prayed to God to bless them richly and grant them good heart desires in the new year and beyond. Obi said: “The events of the past year are now part of our national history. As we trudge on, we remain mindful of the state of our nation and that our best hopes and aspirations remain largely unfulfilled. “Peace and security continue to elude us with the rising level of bloodletting deeply troubling and sometimes beyond a war situation. “A situation where hundreds of Nigerians are violently killed in December alone is deeply sad and unacceptable. “While we pray for the repose of the souls departed, we demand that the Federal Government must do whatever is required to bring the perpetrators to justice and permanently stop a reoccurrence in any part of Nigeria.” He noted that the nation’s economy needed a turnaround, considering the rising unemployment, inflation, poverty, inequality, and other key socioeconomic variables. Obi said, “Nigerians are now very aware and convinced that good governance, inclusive development, and accountable leadership expected in a functional democracy continue to elude us. “But we must be consistent and resolute in our demand for the rule of law, regulatory quality, and government effectiveness for transformative solutions to a litany of our social problems. “If there is one fundamental threat to our democracy, it is the undermining and weakening of our national institutions and the capture of state affairs and resources by few individuals and private interests. “This must stop for Nigeria to move forward and function as an inclusive and sustainable society and nation.” According to him, in a democratic and secular country like ours, there must be full respect for the separation of powers between the three independent arms of government, as well as between the federating units. He said the National Assembly should devote time and commit itself to the diligent performance of its functions, like the 2024 budget, which required its prudent examination and subsequent patriotic-oriented approval or rejection. Obi said the nation must work assiduously to avoid drifting to a one-party state or a situation where the Federal Government intervened unduly in the internal affairs of the states, particularly in circumstances where national security is not threatened. He added, “We in the Labour Party have undertaken in the national interest and in our undying commitment to a New Nigeria that is possible, to remain firmly in opposition and, as such, must remain focused going forward. “Our collective role in nation-building remains fundamental and obligatory.” He used the opportunity to thank all Nigerians who supported his campaign during the 2023 elections and voted for his party because of their belief in the quest for a New Nigeria. Obi said the outcome of the 2023 presidential elections was contested and remained so, on record, “but the Courts of law have spoken; so be it.” He said, “I wish to thank members of the Labour Party, the Obidient Family, friends, and well-wishers of Nigeria for their loyalty, resilience, tenacity, and commitment to true democracy. “We will continue ongoing discussions and efforts for the Labour Party to adjust to our new role as Nigeria’s main opposition party. “We will continue to constructively engage all Nigerians and our friends, who have now realised the vast implications of the road not taken; and the folly of national interest decisions predicated on sentiments and primordial interests.” Obi said that Nigeria remained a God-given country and that the business of Nigeria was far too important to be left to those involved in transactional politics. He said, “I am involved in the struggle for a New Nigeria that is possible and works for all and will remain passionately committed to the crusade. “I, therefore, implore you all who strive for a New Nigeria to remain fully engaged, committed and resilient as it is and will be possible.” https://thisweekng.com/lp-will-be-nigerias-opposition-party-in-2024-peter-obi/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8JKk4fzwQk In a surprising turn of events, Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has found himself at the center of a social media storm after declaring 2023 as his "best year" and expressing gratitude for blessings on his Instagram page. The actor confidently proclaimed, "2023 has been my best year so far. Thank you, Lord, for your blessings and all. I can't even thank God enough. 2024 will be outstanding." Despite Yul's optimism for the future, netizens were quick to criticize his seemingly insensitive remarks, given the personal challenges he faced in 2023. The actor's marriage to his long-time partner, May Edochie, came to a heartbreaking end, marked by the entrance of another colleague, Judy Austine, who claimed to be carrying Yul's child. Furthermore, tragedy struck Yul's family with the loss of his 16-year-old son. Outraged Nigerians flooded Yul's post, expressing their disapproval of his perspective on what should be considered a tumultuous year for him. One commenter, @doby125, voiced concern for May Edochie, saying, "You all should forget about this man for a minute, let's think of what May went through living with this man. It must have been hell but she held it together. This man is pure ev!l."

During his visit, Peter Obi pledged financial support to alleviate the plight of the affected communities. The former presidential candidate committed five million naira to each of the local government areas, Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi, where displaced persons are currently seeking refuge. This gesture is a step towards providing immediate relief and assistance to those grappling with the aftermath of the tragic events.

In a groundbreaking move, Riverside LNG, a prominent Nigerian energy company, has disclosed ongoing discussions regarding a potential agreement to supply gas to South Africa starting from the first quarter of 2024. This development marks the initiation of what could be the first-ever gas deal between Nigeria and South Africa, signaling a potential collaboration in the energy sector. CEO David Ige, in an exclusive interview in Abuja, revealed the company’s strategic focus on expanding its reach across the continent. Earlier this year, Riverside LNG formalized a gas-export partnership with Johannes Schuetze Energy Import AG of Germany, demonstrating its commitment to international collaborations. “We’d probably very early in the year close out another segment of the market, an off-take for South Africa,” Ige stated. “There’s a massively evolving gas market in the region, covering southern Africa, western Africa, all to northwest Europe and to the Caribbean and South America broadly.” While emphasizing the confidentiality of ongoing discussions, Ige refrained from providing specific details about the negotiations with South African counterparts. The company is simultaneously exploring potential opportunities in Liberia and Cameroon, further solidifying its position as a key player in the African energy landscape. Strategic Implications for South Africa: Addressing Power Shortages and Embracing Renewables Key Considerations: South Africa’s persistent power shortages due to ageing and inadequately maintained power stations managed by Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd. Delays in procuring extra electricity from private providers due to grid constraints and legal disputes. Lack of an LNG facility in South Africa; deliveries from the Riverside LNG project expected to start in 2027. Shifting towards renewable energy sources with a goal to achieve 60 gigawatts of power from renewables by 2030. Regional Dynamics: Southern African Development Community endorses a $17 billion plan for natural gas infrastructure to enhance energy provisions in the region. Investments in pipelines and terminals for both local and imported supplies. Riverside LNG’s potential gas supply deal with South Africa aligns with the nation’s efforts to diversify its energy sources, moving away from coal dependence. With 80% of electricity production currently reliant on coal, South Africa aims to achieve a significant portion of its power from renewables by 2030. CEO David Ige emphasized the broader opportunities for Nigeria, stating, “We see a huge opportunity for Nigeria in being a trading hub.” The evolving gas market in the region presents a strategic advantage for Nigeria to position itself as a pivotal player in the global energy trade. https://thisweekng.com/nigeria-to-begin-to-supply-gas-to-south-africa-from-2024/

In a recent development, Oranto Petroleum Ltd (OPL), owned by Prince Arthur Eze and his royal family from the Kingdom of Dunukofia, has successfully obtained a two-year extension on its oil exploration license in Uganda. This extension, granted by the Ugandan government, is viewed as compensation for the time lost during the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The announcement of the extension permit came through an official email statement, as confirmed by Solomon Muyita, the spokesperson for the Uganda Energy Ministry. The government of Uganda emphasized that this extension aligns with its strategy to enhance recoverable oil, which currently stands at 1.4 billion barrels. As part of the terms of the extension, the production sharing agreement, royalties, cost of recovery, and profit sharing have been outlined, contributing to the broader framework of the collaboration between Oranto Petroleum Ltd and the Ugandan government. Prince Arthur Eze’s company originally secured the license for the Ngassa Deep and Ngassa Shallow contract areas in 2017, with the initial expiration date set for December 20, 2023. During the extension signing ceremony, Ruth Nankabirwa, Uganda’s energy minister, conveyed her expectations for Oranto Petroleum Ltd to maximize the additional time and ensure a successful outcome. She stressed the significance of the extension, highlighting its potential contribution to increasing Uganda’s oil volumes. Uganda, presently holding a reserve of six billion barrels of oil, anticipates leveraging this extension to enhance its oil production capabilities. Of the total reserves, 1.4 billion barrels are considered retrievable, making this collaboration with Oranto Petroleum Ltd a crucial aspect of Uganda’s oil sector strategy. Abdul Byakagaba, the general manager of OPL, expressed the company’s commitment to completing the scheduled work program within the specified two-year period. This commitment aligns with their dedication to advancing Uganda’s oil exploration and production objectives. In conclusion, the extension of Oranto Petroleum Ltd’s exploration license marks a significant development in the collaboration between the Nigerian oil company and the Ugandan government. This extension not only serves as compensation for pandemic-induced delays but also positions Oranto Petroleum Ltd as a key player in Uganda’s efforts to optimize its oil production capabilities. The next two years will be crucial in determining the success of this collaboration and its impact on Uganda’s oil industry. https://thisweekng.com/arthur-eze-to-become-richer-after-securing-oil-deal-in-uganda-details-emerge/

On Monday, the Nigerian government under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu announced that a total of 128 individuals traveling from Abuja to various Northern destinations have availed themselves of a 50% discount on their transport fares. The Federal Ministry of Transportation, in a statement signed by its Director of Press and Public Relations, reported that its Situation Room Monitoring Team observed this development. The statement highlighted that drivers operating on inter-state routes have been adhering to the discounted fares as per President Tinubu’s directive. Specifically, travelers departing from Abuja and heading to destinations in the North, such as Gombe, Bauchi, Yola, and Maiduguri, have been transported to their destinations at only half the regular transport fares for each leg of their journey. The statement said, “As ALBON co-opts NURTW, implementing 50% discount on transport fares at yuletide gets a boost, 128 Nigerians enjoy Tinubu’s Renewed Hope discount on Christmas Day. “Implementing the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s for 50% discount on transport fares for Nigerians during the yuletide got a serious boost especially as one hundred and twenty-eight travellers from Abuja, who were bound for destinations in the North – Gombe, Bauchi, Yola and Maiduguri were freighted to their destinations paying only half of the transport fares charged for each of their destinations, as monitored by Federal Ministry of Transportation Situation Room Monitoring Team on Christmas Day. “Thanks to the proactive efforts of the Association of Luxury Bus Owners, travellers were able to enjoy a significant reduction in their transportation costs, with Clement Okuefuna overseeing the disbursement of the reimbursements at the Area 1 motor park in Abuja. “Notably, ALBON’s collaboration with the National Union of Road Transport Workers has effectively ensured that passengers are promptly refunded half of their fare payments upon boarding designated vehicles, thereby making the President’s transport palliative a reality.” “The last 16-seater passenger bus which loaded, got its passenger refunded half of the transport fares paid back to them and heading for Bauchi and Maiduguri rounded off the operation at Area 1 Motor Park, Abuja,” the statement added. SaharaReporters had reported that President Tinubu approved a 50 percent reduction in the prices of inter-state transport fares for Nigerians travelling during the Yuletide from December 21, 2023, to January 4, 2024. It also reported that the President approved free rides for commuters on all train services within the period. Addressing Recent Incidents in Anambra, Plateau, Zamfara, and Katsina States, Peter Obi Advocates for Our Security Operatives In a recent Twitter statement, Peter Obi, the former Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has broken his silence on the tragic incident that unfolded in Oba, Anambra State. The incident involved a ruthless attack on a nightclub by unidentified gunmen, resulting in multiple fatalities. Obi’s decision to comment on the Oba incident was linked to his broader concern for the escalating violence across Nigeria. The former Presidential candidate expressed his condolences and addressed the recent massacre in Plateau State on Christmas Day. He tweeted, “As we celebrate this season of peace and love and the approach of a new year, I like to spare a thought for our compatriots in uniform.” During a sympathy visit to the Regent of Oba Community, Obi condemned the “horrific killing of people in a nightclub” in the community. Furthermore, he highlighted the “mindless act of terrorism” in Plateau State, where the death toll has reportedly surpassed 100, with over 300 injured. Obi extended his concerns to include other regions affected by violence, specifically mentioning Zamfara and Kastina States, where farmers were killed, and numerous others were kidnapped. He emphasized that many such incidents might go unreported, underscoring the severity of the security crisis. The former Presidential candidate directed his attention to the security operatives, acknowledging their sacrifices and the risks they face daily. He expressed gratitude to the gallant troops, policemen, Civil Defense Corps, and Department of State Security operatives who serve on the front lines of insecurity. In his statement, Obi remarked, “Great nations are built by rulers, citizens, and the protectors of freedom.” He called on the nation to collectively appreciate and acknowledge the efforts of those safeguarding the country’s freedom, especially during the festive season when many are away from their homes. Obi’s message extended condolences to the families affected by the acts of violence, recognizing the challenging times faced by the nation. He noted that the level of insecurity, violence, and loss of human lives surpassed even some countries in declared wars. In conclusion, Peter Obi urged continued prayers for the nation’s healing, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to address the pervasive security challenges faced by Nigeria. Peter Obi Said, “ As we celebrate this season of peace and love and the approach of a new year, I like to spare a thought for our compatriots in uniform. After my sympathy visit to the Regent of Oba Community in Anambra State for the recent horrific killing of people in a nightclub in that community; plus the mindless act of terrorism that occurred on Christmas Day in Plateau State, where the death toll is now reportedly more than 100 with over 300 injured; with the saddening acts of violence that have occurred in Zamfara and Kastina States, where farmers were killed and several others kidnapped, and the many other violent attacks in many parts of the country, which may go unreported; my thoughts went to our overstretched security operatives. The men and women of our armed and security services come to mind. They are our gallant troops in various battlefronts of insecurity, the policemen and women on patrol in our cities and highways, the Civil Defense Corps, and Department of State Security operatives. These illustrious citizens are often lost in our thoughts and prayers both as leaders and fellow citizens, yet they remain the guardians and protectors of our freedom as a people. I am also thinking of those who in the call of duty have to spend this festive season away from the comfort of their homes and the embrace of loved ones. I am referring to those who face the risk of the supreme sacrifice to protect and defend the freedom of our dear nation and the liberties that come with our democracy. Let us spare them our thoughts and prayers this season. Let them be reassured that their labours are appreciated by a grateful nation. Great nations are built by rulers, citizens, and the protectors of freedom. Therefore, to all our illustrious heroes, please accept the prayers and thoughts of your compatriots and the appreciation of a grateful nation for your services and sacrifices. God bless you all for what you do for us all. And to all the families who have lost their loved ones to these acts of violence, do accept my sincere condolences. These are very challenging times in our nation. Even some countries in open declared wars have not experienced this level of insecurity, violence, and loss of human lives. Let us continue to pray for our nation that God will heal our land https://thisweekng.com/peter-obi-condemns-nationwide-violence-extends-sympathy-to-victims/

The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has refuted claims that he opened 593 foreign bank accounts.https://thisweekng.com/emefiele-breaks-silence-on-opening-593-foreign-bank-accounts/

The ex-Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, countered claims made by the Private Investigator, Jim Obazee, asserting that former President Muhammadu Buhari sanctioned the Naira redesign initiative. Emefiele addressed this in response to a report titled “Re; Emefiele, others stole billions, illegally kept Nigeria’s funds in foreign banks,” issued by Obazee on Sunday. Obazee’s report contended that there was no official presidential approval for the Naira redesign program and suggested that the policy was introduced to Buhari through a former presidential aide, Sabiu Tunde, without the endorsement of the CBN board. Emefiele contradicted these claims, stating that the presidential approval for the Naira redesign was personally presented to Obazee in the presence of senior CBN officials and members of the Investigator’s team. He further asserted that many of the allegations levied against him in Obazee’s report are untrue, misleading, and are intended to tarnish his reputation for the investigator’s own gain. In essence, Emefiele is refuting the allegations made in the investigative report, emphasizing that there was proper presidential approval for the Naira redesign program and challenging the credibility of the claims against him as an attempt to damage his character. He said: “After my release on bail from the correctional centre, Kuje, my attention was drawn to publications released by the Punch Newspaper and Premium Times online news platforms. “The sources of the information published by both media houses were credited to a certain report prepared by Mr. Jim Obazee, who was appointed by the President as a private investigator. “I have gone through the publications, and I say boldly that the contents of the said publications are false, misleading and calculated to disparage my person, injure my character and to serve the selfish interest of the private investigator. “Because of my present situation, I have been advised by my lawyers not to say anything in respect of the matters which have been submitted to the court for adjudication. However, I need to address some of the issues raised in the publication which are barefaced lies told by the investigator in order to achieve his satanic agenda. “First, it was reported that, contrary to the provision of the CBN Act 2007, there was no presidential approval for the Naira redesign. I wish to state unequivocally that there was indeed a presidential approval, and the said approval was handed over to the same Jim Obazee during the process of his investigation in the presence of senior CBN officials and his own investigative team. “Moreover, former President Muhammadu Buhari has stated on a number of occasions that he authorised and approved the Naira redesign. I am therefore at a loss as to why Mr. Jim Obazee will mislead Nigerians that there was no presidential approval.” https://thisweekng.com/emefiele-denies-allegations-presents-evidence-of-presidential-approval-for-naira-redesign/

In a recent development, Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has aimed Peter Obi, the Former Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, following Obi’s criticism of President Tinubu’s Yuletide 50% Transportation Fare Reduction Policy. Obi asserted that an investigation he conducted revealed insufficient communication with transporters nationwide, raising questions about the policy’s fairness and efficacy. Obi argued that for such a policy to yield positive results, it should have been implemented inclusively, with thorough consideration of the challenges faced by transport companies across the nation. This critique prompted a response from Reno Omokri, who questioned Obi’s tendency to undermine positive initiatives. “Why can’t he, for once, be appreciative of something good?” Omokri questioned. He went on to label Obi’s characterization of President Tinubu’s efforts as a “spin to curry favour” as unjustified. Omokri expressed surprise at Obi’s reluctance to acknowledge the positive aspects of the Yuletide transportation policy, including the free railway ride for Nigerians. Omokri further highlighted the confirmation from private sector transport operators, some operating in Anambra and known to Obi personally, who have endorsed and begun implementing the policy. This endorsement, according to Omokri, adds credibility to the effectiveness of the fare reduction measures. The former presidential aide also raised concerns about Obi and his party’s seemingly negative disposition towards positive developments in Nigeria. Omokri questioned why they appear content only when bad things occur in the country, expressing a fear that they might resort to sponsoring activities detrimental to the nation’s economy and security to satisfy their negative narrative. “It seems all they know how to do is raise false alarms with fake statistics and then threaten, insult, and abuse when right-thinking Nigerians refuse to buy into their delusions,” Omokri remarked. The exchange between Omokri and Obi underscores the ongoing tension between political figures, with each side asserting its perspective on the effectiveness and fairness of government policies. As Nigeria navigates complex challenges, the public remains watchful of the discourse surrounding key initiatives and the impact they have on the nation’s well-being. Read what Reno wrote: Rather than Peter Obi to call President Bola Tinubu’s free railway ride for Nigerians and 50% slash in transport costs for the Yuletide a “spin to curry favour”, why can’t he, for once, be appreciative of something good? Where is Peter Obi’s own spin to curry favour with Nigerians, other than his constant lies and fake statistics? At least the private sector transport operators, including some who operate in Anambra and are personally known to Peter Obi, have confirmed the deal and are already implementing it. Why are Peter Obi and his Arise Peoples Party only happy when bad things happen in Nigeria and sad when good occurs? At the rate they are going, one hopes they will not start sponsoring people to sabotage our economy and security just to have something negative to be happy about. All he and his Arise Peoples Party, plus his Obidients, know how to do is raise false alarms with fake statistics and then threaten, insult and abuse when right-thinking Nigerians refuse to buy into their delusions. https://thisweekng.com/reno-omokri-fires-back-at-peter-obi-over-criticism-of-president-tinubus-transport-policy/

In the lead-up to the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) candidate, has voiced criticism against President Bola Tinubu for implementing a 50% reduction in transportation fares nationwide during the Yuletide season. According to a report by News Verified, Tinubu had previously announced waivers on transport fares for interstate road travelers during the Christmas and New Year period. Tinubu clarified that the federal government would subsidize 50% of the transport fares for interstate road travelers throughout the country during the festive season. In response to this announcement, Peter Obi expressed disappointment in a statement via X, raising concerns about the fate of Nigerians after the conclusion of the festive season and the implications for those who had already undertaken travels before the transportation fare reduction was announced. The former Governor of Anambra state conducted an investigation, revealing that many transporters in major parks across the country were not adequately informed or consulted regarding the decision made by the Federal Government. Obi argued that for the policy to be effective and fair, it should have been inclusive, taking into account the challenges faced by transport companies. Obi emphasized the need for the policy to resonate with the broader population, especially the economically disadvantaged. He contended that a more deliberate and concrete arrangement should have been made with transport companies to ensure the effective implementation of the policy and its positive impact on the masses. As the nation enters the festive season, the clash of opinions between Peter Obi and President Tinubu adds complexity to the ongoing political discourse. The effectiveness of the transportation fare reduction policy is now under scrutiny, and Obi’s concerns highlight the importance of a comprehensive and inclusive approach to policymaking, ensuring that the benefits reach those who are most in need. He said, “I read the reports of the President’s approval of a 50 percent slash in the price of interstate transport fare for Nigerians travelling during this Yuletide from Thursday 21, 2023, to January 4, 2024. The news reports added that the President approved free rides for commuters on all train services within the period. If fully implemented, as reported, I consider this first-time intervention of the government, intended to help the masses, a step in the right direction. However, the major concern about such emergency measures is what follows afterwards. The high cost of transportation and associated hardships are all well known. The question this seasonal palliative raises is that of what happens after the festive season. Is there a sustainable policy measure to cushion the masses from the current high transportation costs? Even the current effort comes with operational challenges. Millions of people have already traveled bearing the brunt and huge costs of such travels. How will such people get their refunds or be compensated? Following the government’s announcement of a 50% discount on interstate transport fare for Nigerians, I have taken time to inquire into the implementation mechanics across different cities but I have been disappointed. “Today, I sent out contacts who consulted widely with the transporters in major parks across the country: in Abuja they carried out on the spot investigation in Jabi/Utako areas; in Lagos they visited major parks like Jibowu, Festac, Mile 12, Ajah, and Mazamaza and none of the transporters in these parks was aware of this 50% discount. At Upper Iweka, Onitsha, which is the main traffic hub in Anambra, and in other parts of the country like; Kano, Aba, Kaduna, Owerri, and Gombe, the story is the same. The government has again announced the few transport companies chosen to participate in the intervention for which 28 Routes have been designated. There are no announced forms of checks and balances to ensure that the transporters follow the terms of the contract. “There are obvious questions on the integrity of this intervention effort. One expects that such a policy that strives to appeal to the broad masses, especially the downtrodden, deliberate and concrete arrangements should be made, with transport companies. I pray that this is not yet another spin to curry favour in the media space after appetizing the people. The Nigerian people are going through untold hardship and the government must not remain insensitive to their sufferings. Compassion on the part of government is a good thing, but it should not be an avenue for exploiting the weak structures of government to encourage less than transparent policy implementation.” https://thisweekng.com/peter-obi-criticizes-president-tinubus-yuletide-transportation-fare-reduction-policy/

In a recent gathering of a women’s fellowship, Christian mothers opened up about their perspectives and strategies if they were to discover their husbands engaging in an affair with their own sisters. The candid responses shed light on a range of emotional, spiritual, and practical approaches these women would consider in such challenging situations. During the discussion, Woman 1 expressed a reliance on prayer, stating, “I’ll use prayer to be following my husband, and I believe one day God will touch his heart.” Another woman, Woman 2, redirected blame toward her sister, pledging to lavish her husband with special love while confronting her sibling directly. When the pastor sought validation for the second woman’s response, the group collectively chorused, “yes.” Woman 3, however, emphasized a more cautious approach. She emphasized the importance of respecting privacy, stating, “First, what am I looking for in my husband’s phone? You’re not supposed to check his phone; that’s what we were taught here.” If she were to discover such an affair, she outlined a plan involving a visit to her parents, urging them to counsel her sister to leave the marriage. Woman 5 took a different stance, emphasizing secrecy. “First, I will not allow any other person to hear it. I will hide it. After sealing it, I will now go and fight my sister.” She also suggested seeking counseling at a religious institution favored by her husband. Drawing from a real-life incident, Woman 5 recounted a scenario where a couple sought pastoral counseling, leading to a resolution that involved the sister being asked to leave. The Reverend overseeing the discussion affirmed the correctness of the answers, prompting a shift to another topic. Woman 6 contributed a perspective on avoiding confrontations that might escalate the situation. “If you chase your sister, your husband could go behind you and continue the relationship with her. So, apply wisdom. Call your sister and talk to her in a language she can understand so she can stay away.” Additionally, she recommended seeking advice from someone the husband respects. These responses highlight the diverse strategies employed by these women, all of whom are members of a women’s fellowship dedicated to enhancing their roles as wives. The video recording of the discussion provides a glimpse into the complex dynamics and thoughtful considerations within this community. Watch the video for an in-depth look into the nuanced perspectives and strategies shared by these Christian mothers. https://thisweekng.com/christian-mothers-share-strategies-to-address-husbands-sleeping-with-their-sisters-video/

In a significant revelation, the Special Investigator assigned to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and its affiliated entities, Jim Obaze, has disclosed that the former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, did not endorse the Naira redesign policy initiated by the ex-governor of the CBN, Godwin Emefiele. Appointed by President Bola Tinubu several months ago, Jim Obaze, a former Executive Secretary of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, presented his conclusive findings on Wednesday in a report titled ‘Report of the Special Investigation on CBN and Related Entities (Chargeable Offenses)’. The disclosed documents suggest that Godwin Emefiele might face potential criminal charges relating to the handling of the CBN’s naira redesign policy. According to the report, Emefiele could be prosecuted under section 19 of the CBN Act for the unauthorized issuance of currency. Additionally, Tunde Sabiu, a former aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, and 12 top directors of the CBN may also be implicated. The investigation indicates that the naira redesign policy was presented to Buhari at the behest of Sabiu, bypassing the approval of the CBN board. It was revealed that Buhari did not officially sanction the redesign, despite approving the printing of the currency within Nigeria. The redesign proposal was only brought to the attention of the CBN board on December 15, 2022, after Emefiele had already awarded the contract to the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Plc on October 31, 2022. The documents highlight that Emefiele contracted the redesign of the naira to De La Rue in the UK for £205,000, after the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Plc expressed its inability to meet the short timeframe for delivery. The special investigator uncovered that N61.5 billion was allocated for printing the new notes, with N31.79 billion already disbursed. This revelation points towards a potential legal challenge for Emefiele and others involved in the unauthorized redesign of the national currency. The findings have raised questions about procedural lapses and possible financial irregularities within the CBN, demanding further scrutiny from relevant authorities. As the report is submitted to President Bola Tinubu, the nation awaits potential legal actions and a deeper investigation into the actions of key figures in the controversial Naira redesign saga. https://thisweekng.com/investigation-reveals-buhari-did-not-approve-emefieles-naira-redesign-policy/

In a recent operation, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered and dismantled counterfeit wine factories operating in the bustling Cemetery Market in Aba, Abia State. The decisive action was announced by Mr. Martins Iluyomade, the Director of the Southeast Zone of NAFDAC. Iluyomade disclosed that the market has been temporarily closed to facilitate a thorough sanitization process. The move comes in the wake of a significant discovery during a raid on Monday, exposing the extensive circulation of counterfeit products, particularly fake wines and other beverages within the market. Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Iluyomade stated, “Operatives of NAFDAC have arrested 10 criminals over the production of fake adulterated beverages.” The arrests underscore the agency’s commitment to curbing the production and distribution of substandard and potentially harmful products. Furthermore, Mr. Martins Iluyomade shed light on the nefarious activities of these illicit manufacturers. Not only were they producing imitation wines and drinks, but they were also found guilty of adulterating high-quality products from reputable companies. Iluyomade explained the alarming method employed by these criminals, involving the incorporation of harmful chemicals and colorings into the beverages. Expressing concern for public safety, Iluyomade cautioned that consumers, particularly during the festive yuletide period, may have unwittingly purchased these adulterated drinks without knowledge of their origin. This revelation underscores the need for vigilance and scrutiny when acquiring beverages, especially during peak consumption periods. A viral video associated with the operation captures members of the NAFDAC task force in action, destroying numerous bottles of counterfeit soft drinks. The video serves as a visual testament to the agency’s dedication to eradicating fake and potentially hazardous products from the market. In a chilling account, a woman shared her harrowing near-death experience at the newly-opened Giwa Gardens Water Park & Resort in Lagos, shedding light on alarming safety concerns. The incident unfolded during a family outing at Giwa Gardens, as the lady detailed, “This morning I went to Giwa Gardens Water Park & Resort with my family to have fun, and it did not end well.” What was supposed to be a day of enjoyment turned into a nightmare due to perceived safety lapses. Describing the perilous conditions, she expressed concern about the inadequacy of pool depths for the water park’s long slides. Her daughter’s head collided with the pool tiles after a slide, prompting a warning that went unheeded. She recounted, “My daughter hit her head when she went on it and came back to tell me I shouldn’t go.” Despite the cautionary tale from her daughter, the woman decided to experience the slide herself. Unfortunately, her encounter with the waterpark’s slide resulted in a direct impact of her forehead on the pool tiles, causing significant injury. She compared this incident to her previous visits to water parks worldwide, noting the absence of rubber padding in Giwa Gardens’ pools. The first aid response to the injuries further added to the distress. “The staff did not even see it as a big deal!! It took them almost 15 minutes before I saw one who took me casually to the nurse. The first aid service is wack!!! No good plaster is available!” she lamented, highlighting the inadequate medical assistance provided. In an effort to prevent further incidents, the lady promptly informed the park’s management about the dangers posed by the slides. However, her plea for action seemed to fall on deaf ears. “I informed the management immediately that the slides should be closed, up until I left it wasn’t closed!!!” she exclaimed. The urgency of the matter led her to call upon the relevant authorities, tagging the Lagos State Government in her social media posts. In a plea directed at both the government and potential visitors, she cautioned, “@lagosstategovt Please go to @giwagardens and do the necessary quality control check before they kill people. Go to @giwagardens at your own risk.” This alarming incident serves as a wake-up call for both regulatory bodies and the public, emphasizing the need for stringent safety measures and quality checks at recreational facilities. This morning I went to @giwagardens @keji_giwa with my family to have fun and it did not end well The pools are too shallow for the long slides,my daughter hit her head when she went on it and came back to tell me I shouldn’t go…I thought she was exaggerating,I went on the slide and hit my forehead head on the tiles in the pool ,I have been to at least 5 water parks in different countries, there is always a rubber laid in all the pools,my head hit the tiles directly and my lips caught into two. The first accident I had was at the river,I tumbled in the tube and the back of my head hit the tiles,I left immediately with my daughter not knowing a bigger one was coming… The staff did not even see it as a big deal!! Renowned Pastor Abel Damina expressed a firm stance against the practice of collecting January’s salary as a first fruit in a recent sermon. The pastor, addressing congregants, declared, “As long as I live in this church, nobody will collect your salary because January salary is not first fruit.“ In his impassioned address, Pastor Damina challenged the conventional notion that January holds a unique spiritual significance. He stated, “There is no January in the spirit, there is nothing special about January. God is not aware that January has come, so why are they collecting your salary in January? We do not observe this. We do not observe months; why your January salary?“ The pastor’s remarks question the basis for singling out January for financial offerings, emphasizing that the spiritual realm does not recognize specific months. Damina continued, highlighting the inconsistency in attributing special significance to January when other months go unnoticed in such practices. Moreover, Pastor Damina emphasized the essence of first fruits, asserting, “The first fruit is not money, the first fruit is Jesus.” This statement challenges the traditional understanding of first fruits as a monetary offering, redirecting focus towards a more spiritual interpretation centered around Jesus Christ. As the pastor addressed the congregation, he conveyed his commitment to protecting his church members from the customary collection of January salaries. His perspective brings attention to the need for a deeper understanding of spiritual practices and challenges the routine adherence to traditional beliefs without critical examination. Pastor Abel Damina’s strong stance against collecting January salary as a first fruit reflects a deeper contemplation on spiritual practices. https://thisweekng.com/january-is-coming-they-are-warming-up-to-collect-your-januarys-salary-pastor-abel-damina/

Mr Ibu’s family, through Valentine Okafor, refutes amputation rumors, citing blood clotting challenges. Updates on health. In a recent statement issued by Valentine Okafor on behalf of Mr Ibu’s family, they vehemently denied circulating reports suggesting that the veteran actor’s second leg has been amputated. The family also debunked claims that Mr Ibu is grappling with diabetes, shedding light on the actual health challenges he faces. Expressing gratitude to Nigerians for their overwhelming support, both physically and financially, the family sought to correct misconceptions surrounding Mr Ibu’s health. According to the statement, the actor is currently battling blood clotting in his legs, a condition attributed to diseased blood vessels and other health issues posing a risk to his life. Contrary to rumors, the family clarified, “First, we would like to state that our daddy wasn’t amputated on both legs but only one.” They explained that the initial amputation didn’t entirely address his health predicament, leading to a further amputation on the same leg to ensure his overall well-being. The statement elucidated that Mr Ibu’s health challenges are not rooted in diabetes but rather in persistent clotting of the blood in his leg. This clarification aims to dispel any confusion surrounding the nature of his illness and emphasizes the necessity of the amputation as a medical measure. Addressing the issue of seeking advanced medical treatment abroad, the family revealed that the doctors have labeled Mr Ibu as “Not Fit to Fly.” This designation has posed a significant obstacle to securing international medical assistance, as airlines are reluctant to transport him. Currently admitted to one of Nigeria’s premier hospitals, Mr Ibu receives care from a team of skilled professionals. As Mr Ibu undergoes recovery, the family appealed to friends, colleagues, fans, and the Nigerian public to keep him in their thoughts and prayers. They also urged everyone to refrain from spreading unconfirmed reports about his health, emphasizing the importance of accurate information during this challenging time. The statement, delivered by Valentine Okafor on behalf of the family, seeks to set the record straight regarding Mr Ibu’s health. https://thisweekng.com/mr-ibus-family-denies-reports-his-second-leg-has-been-amputated/

In the scrutiny of the 2024 budget proposal by the National Assembly, striking details have emerged, revealing that President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima are slated to expend a substantial sum of N10.13 billion on meals and travel. This revelation sheds light on the fiscal priorities outlined in the proposed budget, which encompasses an aggregate revenue projection of N18.32 trillion and a deficit amounting to N9.18 trillion, equivalent to 3.88 percent of the GDP. The budget allocates N8.7 trillion for capital expenditure and N18.51 trillion for recurrent expenditure. Within this framework, a notable provision titled ‘refreshment & meal and foodstuff for the offices of Tinubu and Shettima’ stands out, with a dedicated allocation of N660.5 million. Breaking down this allocation further, N287.8 million is earmarked for the president’s office, while the vice president’s office is allocated N372.6 million. Specifics in the proposal indicate that refreshments and meals for President Tinubu will consume N33.6 million, along with an additional N254.2 million allocated for foodstuff/catering material supplies. Vice President Shettima’s refreshments/meals are budgeted at N35 million, with N337.5 million designated for foodstuff/catering material supplies. Remarkably, the budget proposal extends beyond human consumption, revealing a budgetary allocation of N201.4 million for the feeding of animals at Aso Rock’s zoo, categorized under “wildlife conservation.” Another noteworthy allocation is the budget for the renovation of the president and vice president’s quarters at the State House, totaling N800 million. Of this sum, N500 million is designated for President Tinubu’s residence, while N300 million is allocated for Vice President Shettima’s quarters. This budgetary focus on the presidential residences follows a supplementary budget approved the previous month, which earmarked N13.5 billion for the renovation of President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima’s official residences in Lagos and Abuja. This expenditure was part of the N28 billion allocated to the State House in the N2.176 trillion supplementary budget. The 2024 budget proposal further outlines honorarium and sitting allowances for the president and vice president at N152.3 million and N67.3 million, respectively. Additionally, N37.9 million is allocated for powering generators in the State House, while N260.8 million is earmarked for electricity charges. This comprehensive breakdown provides a detailed insight into the financial allocations outlined in the 2024 budget, particularly highlighting the substantial provisions allocated for the sustenance and official activities of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima. https://thisweekng.com/aso-villas-animals-to-get-n201-million-from-budget-tinubu-shettima-to-spend-n660-5-million-on-feeding/

In a recent statement, Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, voiced critical opinions about Peter Obi, the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party. Omokri raised concerns about Obi’s suitability to govern a multiethnic nation like Nigeria, citing what he perceives as a lack of sufficient detribalization. According to Omokri, “Peter Obi is not sufficiently detribalized to govern a multiethnic nation like Nigeria. He is too tribalistic.” The former presidential aide pointed to specific instances where he believes Obi’s actions reflected a tribal bias. Omokri drew attention to Obi’s response to the bombing of innocent Nigerians in Kaduna by the Nigerian Army. He remarked, “Look at him condemning the bombing of innocent Nigerians in Kaduna by the Nigerian Army.” However, Omokri juxtaposed this with Obi’s purported silence on similar incidents that occurred in his hometown of Onitsha, particularly the burning of Chinedu and Omama a month ago. According to Omokri, Obi refused to condemn these events in the same manner he condemned the burning of Deborah Samuel in Sokoto on May 12, 2022. Further, Omokri highlighted the disparity in Obi’s reactions to government actions in different regions. He stated, “Last week, he condemned Lagos’ demolition of illegal structures. But when Anambra demolished illegal structures, Peter Obi said nothing.” Omokri argued that these inconsistencies reveal a selective approach in Obi’s stance on governance issues. Omokri expressed a broader observation, alleging that Obi tends to be more vocal and critical when events transpire outside Igboland. He stated, “If it happens outside Igboland, Peter Obi will shout loud and cry and dance naked. But if it occurs in the Southeast, Peter Obi pretends not to see it!” This characterization, according to Omokri, raises questions about Obi’s commitment to addressing issues consistently across all regions of the country. As Omokri’s comments gain attention, they contribute to the ongoing discourse about leadership qualities and detribalization in the context of Nigeria’s diverse and multiethnic society. https://thisweekng.com/reno-omokri-criticizes-peter-obis-tribal-allegiance-a-closer-look-at-detribalization-claims/

Spotlight Abbya, a supporter of Labour Party’s Presidential candidate Peter Obi, slams Senior Advocate Olisa Agbakoba for allegedly sidestepping crucial concerns. Agbakoba responds, defending his stance on the Supreme Court’s application of the ‘abide by judgment’ principle in the Labour Party’s case.” In a recent twist of events, Spotlight Abbya, an ardent supporter of Labour Party’s Presidential candidate Peter Obi, has made serious allegations against renowned Nigerian Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Olisa Agbakoba. Abbya expressed disappointment, stating, “It’s pathetic to see Olisa Agbakoba play the ostrich.” This follows a statement by LP’s spokesman, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, who spent over 20 minutes dissecting the Supreme Court’s alleged misapplication of the PDP’s judgment in the Labour Party’s case. Tanko meticulously highlighted the nuances between the two cases, referencing aspects such as the 25% in FCT, forfeiture due to money laundering and drug-related offenses, and substantial non-compliance with the electoral process in Peter Obi’s case. Despite Tanko’s detailed explanation, Agbakoba reportedly sent a text message attempting to discredit and conflate Tanko’s statements, suggesting a lack of understanding of the matter. In defense of his actions, Agbakoba stated, “I have just read a tweet on this matter. I was actually trying to help Dr. Yunusa on the issue of abide by judgment principle.” Agbakoba clarified that Yunusa was concerned about the Supreme Court not delivering a judgment in the Labour Party appeal and questioned the court’s authority to apply a judgment from another petition appeal. Explaining further, Agbakoba stated, “The abide by judgment principle simply means that the Supreme Court can decide a particular appeal and then apply the same judgment to another appeal without actually delivering a judgment in the second appeal.” He drew upon his extensive experience in dealing with cases involving this legal concept. Agbakoba addressed Yunusa’s concerns about the lack of notification from the Supreme Court regarding the application of the abide by judgment principle in the Labour Party appeal. He advised Yunusa to seek clarification directly from the Supreme Court, emphasizing that he was only attempting to provide assistance. Despite Agbakoba’s clarification, criticism continues, with Abbya expressing disbelief at being misquoted. Undeterred, Agbakoba reaffirmed his commitment to commenting on legal matters when necessary, citing his extensive experience in the field. The controversy surrounding the alleged evasion of key issues in Peter Obi’s legal battle continues to unfold. In a shocking incident that unfolded on the night of November 25, 2023, a Nigerian citizen, returning from a friend’s introduction ceremony, found himself at the mercy of the police along Igbogbo Road in Lagos. The victim, who wishes to remain anonymous, detailed a disturbing encounter with the police that involved harassment, false accusations, and a substantial financial loss. According to the victim, after being stopped and searched, the situation escalated when the police noticed a tattoo on his friend’s body. Allegedly without any basis, the officers labeled them as cultists. The victim recounted being slapped and forced to sit in the back seat of his car while two police officers joined him. The friend was reportedly thrown into the police bus, and the officers proceeded to drive them towards Ogolonto. The ordeal continued as the victims were taken to Way Bridge along Mile 12 from Ebute Ikorodu. At this point, the police allegedly threatened to shoot the victim, physically assaulted him, and handcuffed him. In a shocking turn of events, the officer in possession of the victim’s phone reportedly unlocked it using Face ID and proceeded to access banking apps. The assailants forced the victim to withdraw 1.5 million Naira from PiggyVest to his FCMB account. Despite network issues causing initial difficulties, multiple attempts were made to transfer the funds to another account. Ultimately, 390,000 Naira was withdrawn through various transactions to MoneyPoint account number 8274433925, belonging to “Mummy T Ventures.” Fortunately, the assailants were unable to complete the entire withdrawal as network issues prevented the victim from receiving the necessary OTP for a 1 million Naira transfer. The traumatized victim expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Police Headquarters and the Ipakodo Police for their assistance in recovering the stolen funds. Acknowledging the efforts of @BenHundeyin, the victim credited him for playing a significant role in bringing the perpetrators to justice. The victim, who initially feared the loss of crucial funds intended for rent, is now relieved to have reclaimed the stolen money, highlighting the importance of accountability and justice in such cases. https://thisweekng.com/how-nigerian-police-made-me-withdraw-n1-5m-victim-recounts-ordeal-got-justice/
