DIKEnaWAR: Are you talking about content and quality here?
See, acting is an imitation of life on stage. In the Igbo society we make money - plenty of it- and lavish it on what we fancy. Nollywood promotes the Igbo society and Igboness, because we own the industry. Mind you, I am not talking about the Igbo movie industry. We are talking mainstream nollywood.
You critised the message they pass? Isn't Yoruba movie industry about juju and snatching of spouses? We all reflect our societies in our movies. You also seem to forget there is Kannywood for our brothers in North, whose focus is marriage. That is their society.
Take note - you are an igbo hater, and don't have to be Igbo or Yoruba. You dislike nollywood because Igbos hold sway there, but praise Yoruba movie industry for promoting their culture, forgetting there is an igbo movie industry that promote our culture too. Truth and cognitive dissonance hurts most times ... So when did speaking the truth become a sign of beign an Igbo hater ? I have many friends that are Igbo, love the Igbo spirit of hard work , commerce and independence... But that doesn't mean I won't share my opinion or speak the truth about things when the opportunity arises ... An honest effective research will reaveal to you what I just said. Igbo amaka. Music/Radio › Re: Why Is Making A Comeback To The Nigerian Music Industry Difficult ? by thomasjoe(m): 1:20pm On Aug 19, 2021 |
Synord: The Nigerian Music Industry is one of the biggest and largest in the world. There is an estimated one hundred thousand recording artistes/musicians in the country and daily music releases of not less than 100 songs. Music Fridays in Nigeria culminate in the release of almost 1000 songs. One major goal of Nigeria’s numerous artistes, producers, song writers, back up vocalists etc., is to “BLOW”.
Blow in the Nigerian lingual is not an exchange of physical punches as the reader might think or a terrorist detonating a bomb. Blow in this context is for their songs and creative performance to be known and enjoyed by all and sundry across the country, Africa, and the world as a whole.
Having a nationwide hit in one‘s catalogue is not a small feat for a creative person in the Nigerian Music Industry. The joy of the numerous airplays, fans chanting your lyrics word for word, sold out shows and tours, streaming incomes and all the other perks that comes with being a hot artiste cannot be overestimated. It is only reasonable that all artistes would want to remain at the top spot for as long as they can.
Change is however a constant thing and the dynamic nature of music in Africa plus the large pool of talented and consistent artistes in the country makes maintaining the fame a tad more difficult that gaining the fame itself. It is harder to remain at the top because there are a lot of other perhaps even more talented creatives working very hard to take your spot.
Record label issues, poor PR, laziness, drug abuse, marital issues, scandals, change of musical style etc., are some of the popular reasons why most artistes are unable to manage their fame and end up becoming one hit wonders. Artistes like Deebee of Collabo Fame, XP Pasa Pasa, Sean Tero Choko, Humblesmith Osinachi, AY dot com, Rayce, Don Tom Putu putu among others are pure examples of one hit wonders in the Nigerian music industry.
A lot of A-list artistes also fall off the radar after a while due to the above-mentioned issues and similar matters. A few exceptions do occur where these artistes return to the limelight like the historic 2018 run of Duncan mighty in the Nigerian music industry after recording a song titled “Fake love“ with Wizkid. His run remains one of the most successful comebacks in the industry till date. A lot of other top artistes who fell off have not had similar success despite signing new deals and featuring some of the hot new kids on the block. It is clear and evident that “REBLOWING“ in the Nigerian music industry is not an easy task.
The main question now is for an artiste that has not been popping in the industry for like a year or two and wants to make a comeback to the industry, what are the steps such an artiste can take to make a successful comeback? Why is it so difficult to make a comeback into the Nigerian music industry?

Beancounter94: Don't like APC, but let's be honest
The fact is that we are not making enough money from oil. Meanwhile our tax to gdp is very low. Eventually we would have to find a way to raise money for road repairs and the only way I see this happening is via toll gates.
As for the complaint that they will loot the money...Well that is why we live in a democracy so that we can do the hard work of holding our leaders to account. Democracy is not about having everything done for you. You are not a baby. Stand up and do your part.
Anyone opposing toll gates is basically saying we should take more loans or we should continue with bad roads with no money to fix them.
So sorry, abuse me, but until you can suggest an alternative to funding road maintenance in this country and it is not by juat cutting the big man salary because we need far far more than what we can get from cutting salaries of all the big men, you should just keep shut and pay the toll. And even if Biafra and oodua come tjey will toll their roads too. Or become as indebted as Nigeria once was.
Let's be realistic
P.s I don't like APC or pdp so don't go there. Let's be realistic...how many progressive countries are a result of oil proceeds ? Japan ? America, even South Africa ? Even look at how Ghanna has been faring in recent times and connect the dots... It's not about fall in oil prices , it's about harnessing the true potential (human / economic ) avaliable... Until we wake up as a nation ,accept this truth and start doing things right , we will keep blaming unnecessary things like oil prices ... Food for thought: Nigeria was a great country before oil was discovered. How did this happen and why is it that since the focus has been oil , Nigeria currently doesnt have a working refinery? |
