**Title:** University of Calabar Female Law Students Protest Against Reinstated Dean Amidst Previous Misconduct Allegations **Date:** August 14, 2023 **Location:** Calabar, Nigeria **In Brief:**** Female students from the University of Calabar's Faculty of Law are currently engaged in a protest against their Dean, Professor Cyril Ndifon. The protest comes in the wake of allegations that Prof. Ndifon was previously suspended in 2015 for the rape of a law student within his office. The students are questioning how he was reinstated and eventually appointed as the Dean of the faculty. **Details:** Female students of the University of Calabar's Faculty of Law have taken to the streets to express their outrage over the reinstatement of Professor Cyril Ndifon as the Dean of the faculty. The protest gains significance due to the fact that Prof. Ndifon was suspended in 2015 following allegations of raping a law student within his office. The students are demanding answers regarding his reinstatement and subsequent promotion to a leadership position. The allegations against Prof. Ndifon in 2015 led to his suspension, raising questions about the institution's handling of the matter and the legal processes that followed. The current protest reflects a larger concern among the students about the lack of accountability and transparency in the university's administration. The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar is also being criticized by the protesting students, with many considering his role in the reinstatement of Prof. Ndifon to be a reflection of his own character and values. The students are demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to the reinstatement of Prof. Ndifon and are calling for accountability for both the Dean and the university administration. The protest highlights the urgency of addressing issues of sexual harassment and misconduct within educational institutions, as well as the need for transparency in administrative decisions. As the protest continues to gain attention, it remains to be seen how the university administration will respond to the demands of the students and whether it will lead to any substantial changes within the institution. : [ ] ( ).

During a Church gathering, one family requested financial assistance of 250k to treat their sick mother. The Pastor then approached the church members, asking them to contribute money for the family's cause. After the contributions were gathered, they realized a total of 750k. The Pastor gave the family the 250k they initially asked for and kept the remaining amount for the church's funds. The family is upset, believing that the Pastor should have given them all the money since the contributions were made for their specific situation. On the other hand, the Pastor argues that they only asked for 250k, so that's what he provided. Who is wrong?

AMBROSE ALLI UNIVERSITY STUDENTS ENGAGE IN PROTEST AGAINST RISE IN TUITION FEES ...Urge immediate reversal _..NANS, FOFSUL urge Edo State Government to uphold their commitment as the 90-day period for dissolving the SIT has already expired_ Learners and concerned parties of the state-affiliated academic institution in Edo have taken to the streets to demonstrate their dissatisfaction with the exorbitant 300% surge in educational expenses. During a press conference, the National Vice President of NANS conveyed that the university raised its fees without consulting the student union's leadership or considering the prevailing national circumstances. Moreover, she criticized the institution for employing students as a source of internal revenue generation, utilizing their tuition fees solely for staff salaries while disregarding student welfare. Furthermore, it has been revealed that the hostel accommodation fees were increased in the previous term, citing impending renovations. However, no renovations have been initiated, let alone completed. She urged the management, under the Freedom of Information Act, to provide a comprehensive breakdown of how the previous fee increment was utilized, warning that any further attempts to raise fees would be met with resistance. The President of the Forum of Former Students Union Leaders [FOFSUL] reiterated that they had sent letters to the Acting Vice Chancellor on three separate occasions to initiate negotiations. Regrettably, these appeals were dismissed, with the Vice Chancellor branding them as meddlesome interlopers masquerading as stakeholders. He also reminded the government of Edo state that they trusted his assurance regarding the establishment of a governing council and the dissolution of the SIT, emphasizing that more than 107 days have passed since the promise was made. For reference, a video can be viewed at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rqy13imJZp0 In a widely circulated voice note on the internet, the Acting Vice Chancellor stated that prospective students who cannot afford the fees are free to seek admission elsewhere, claiming that fee increments are inevitable to sustain the university's operations. At the time of reporting, all activities within the university have been suspended. https://www.instagram.com/reel/Ct8kpfSKRk0/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== https://www.instagram.com/reel/Ct8nalfqPES/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== https://www.instagram.com/reel/Ct81ABjKxyk/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Moh247:This is renouncement He renounced his citizenship |
The candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 governorship election in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, on Thursday, accused the Deputy Governor of the State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, of renouncing his Nigerian citizenship when he acquired the American passport. Rhodes-Vivour made the allegation through one of his expert witnesses at the Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in the Ikeja area of the state. The witness, Mrs. Olubusayo Fasidi, who claimed to be a United States Immigration lawyer, told the Tribunal that Hamzat swore an oath of allegiance to the U.S., renouncing his Nigerian citizenship. Fasidi, led in evidence by Dr Olumide Ayeni (SAN), counsel to the petitioner, also testified that the deputy governor applied for naturalisation as contained in Forms 8CFR/337 and N400. Ayeni tendered the documents to the three-member Tribunal led by Justice Arum Ashom. However, counsel to all the Respondents objected to the move, saying that the reason for their objection would be included in their final written addresses Other Tribunal members are Justice Mikail Abdullahi and Justice L. P. Braimoh. During cross-examination by the lawyer to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Eric Ogiegor, the witness admitted that an individual could enjoy dual citizenship. She, however, said that she was not aware of the provision of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution that deal with dual citizenship. Other Tribunal members are Justice Mikail Abdullahi and Justice L. P. Fasidi said she was subpoenaed before the Tribunal to explain U.S. law and not Nigeria’s Constitution. When the counsel to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat, Bode Olanipekun (SAN), asked her to disclose the jurisdiction and date Hamzat applied for naturalisation, she said she would not because the information was protected by the Privacy Act of 1974. The All Progressives Congress (APC) counsel, Norris Quakers, asked the witness if she knew whether Hamzat disclosed his American citizenship, and she answered in the affirmative. Earlier, Ayeni presented result sheets from polling units in nine local government areas of the state to establish differences in some regions against what was recorded on INEC’s Form EC 40A. Counsel to INEC, Sanwo-Olu, Hamzat and APC objected to the admissibility of Form EC 40A, reserving reasons until their final written addresses. The Tribunal has adjourned the matter to June 26 for further hearing. .https://leadership.ng/rhodes-vivour-accuses-lagos-deputy-gov-of-renouncing-nigerian-citizenship/

Value Added Tax (VAT) is a type of tax that is added to the price of goods and services. In many countries, including some parts of the world, petrol is subject to VAT. When someone says that there is a 7.5% VAT on petrol, it means that the government has imposed a tax of 7.5% on the price of petrol. For example, if the price of petrol is $2 per liter, then the VAT on it would be 7.5% of $2, or $0.15 per liter. Therefore, the total price of petrol including VAT would be $2.15 per liter. The government usually collects this VAT from the petrol seller, who passes it on to the end consumer in the form of a higher price. The revenue generated from VAT is used by the government to fund public services, such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure. IN NIGERIA . , if the price of fuel in Nigeria is N500 per liter, and there is a 7.5% VAT on petrol, then the VAT on it would be 7.5% of N500, which is N37.50 per liter. Therefore, the total price of petrol including VAT would be N537.50 per liter. This means that if you buy one liter of petrol in Nigeria at a price of N500, you will have to pay an additional N37.50 as VAT, making the total cost of one liter of petrol N537.50. The petrol seller would collect the VAT of N37.50 and remit it to the government. I hope this helps to clarify the concept of VAT on petrol in Nigeria. This is the explanation of VAT |
