The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has dismissed reports that it devalued the Naira. Reports had earlier emerged that CBN devalued Naira from N631 to the dollar from N461.60 it sold at the Importers and Exporters (I&E) window the previous day. However, in a tweet, via its Twitter handle on Thursday morning, CBN simply tweeted: “CBN did not devalue the Naira!”. The reported devaluation is coming barely 48 hours after President Bola Tinubu announced the plans of the federal government to unify Nigeria’s exchange rate to stimulate the country’s crumbling economy. Recall that the President had in his inaugural speech said that the “Monetary policy needs a thorough house cleaning.” Following the development, Tinubu met with the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, at the presidential villa on Tuesday. Says ‘It Is Like Calling For Anarchy’ The President, National Patriotic Elders’ Forum of Nigeria, Dr Bature AbdulAziz has described those calling for the suspension of swearing-in of the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as ignorant of the law. AbdulAziz told journalists in Kano on Sunday that the renewed calls for the suspension of swearing-in of the president-elect could destabilise the country. He said: “Some people are ignorantly talking about the swearing-in of the president-elect in spite of the provisions of the Nigeria Constitution and the laws. “The matter is in court and clearly explained by the law. “Calling for the suspension of the swearing-In of the president-elect beyond May 29 is like calling for anarchy because Nigeria would be without government, and become a norman land. “I am worried that some people are hellbent in causing uncertainties in the country for reason best known to them. “Why are you calling for the suspension of the swearing-in, what you are asking for has no position in the law”. .I am excited to see that we still have young people like this who are bold to speak truth like this without fear or consideration of their selfish interest. I am aware this young man was given an SSA appointment recently by mr Governor simply to close his mouth from further criticism, but the young man was still bold enough to tell the governor the truth to his face about AAU yesterday during his meeting with the University community.
