Monsanto’s Roundup and Other Glyphosate-Based
Herbicides Directly Linked to Chronic Disease Spike
By Christina Sarich
Global Research, November 17, 2014
Natural Society 13 November 2014

A new correlation study published in the Journal of Organic
Systems has linked glyphosate, the primary ingredient in
Monsanto’s best-selling herbicide, Roundup, to an
enormous increase in chronic diseases across the United
States.
Supporting countless studies before it, this new report is a
detailed analysis proving an undeniable link between
glyphosate-based herbicides and the rates of chronic
disease all over the country.
Dr. Nancy Swanson and the President of the International
Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM),
Andre Leu, led the research team which proved – once
again – that glyphosate and Roundup are lethal, even in
small amounts.
The chemical is prevalently used on crops across the nation
and world. Friends of the Earth Europe, says that more than
650,000 tonnes of glyphosate products were used over five
years ago, with the amount being used increasing each
year.
This increase in use is contributing to the development of
diseases such as diabetes, obesity, lipoprotein metabolism
disorder, Alzheimer’s, senile dementia, Parkinson’s,
multiple sclerosis, autism, and cancer. The report details
how there is a direct correlation between the incidence of
these diseases and glyphosate use.
It isn’t as if the toxicity levels of glyphosate are not already
known by its makers. Monsanto was refusing to release to
the public lab tests conducted in St. Louis, Missouri, which
gave them authority to use glyphosate in China.
This is the company that is responsible for making PCBs,
DD.T and Agent Orange as well, all of which caused
irreparable health damage ignored by regulators for
decades.
Glyphosate-based herbicides have been identified as the
next widely used chemical on a list of chemicals consumers
should be aware of.
Read: 7 Nasty Effects of Pesticides
The world’s number one weed killer, Glyphosate, or N-
(phosphonomethyl)glycine, is posing serious harm to
humans and the environment, yet the poison developed by
John E. Franz of the Monsanto Company has been allowed
on the US market since the 1970s.
It isn’t just Monsanto who sells glyphosate, though. There
are now over 100 different manufacturers of the product
throughout the world. You can find it in other products with
names such as Clearout 41.
Although glyphosate is used primarily in agricultural
settings, it is also sprayed by public authorities on roads
and pavements. Even managers of golf courses and home
gardeners still use the toxic chemicals to control weeds.
According to the new study:
“Within the last 20 years there has been an alarming
increase in serious illnesses in the US, along with a
marked decrease in life expectancy (Bezruchka, 2012).
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
estimates that the cost of diabetes and diabetes-related
treatment was approximately $116 billion dollars in
2007.
Estimated costs related to obesity were $147 billion in
2008 and cardiovascular diseases and stroke were $
475.3 billion in 2009. Health care expenditures in the
US totaled 2.2 trillion dollars in 2007 (CDC, 2013a).
The onset of serious illness is appearing in increasingly
younger cohorts. The US leads the world in the
increase in deaths due to neurological diseases
between 1979-81 and 2004-06 for the 55-65 age group
(Pritchard et al., 2013).”
The study points out that, “these findings suggest
environmental triggers rather than genetic or age-related
causes,” especially since chronic diseases are showing up
in younger and younger individuals.
“During this same time period, there has been an
exponential increase in the amount of glyphosate
applied to food crops and in the percentage of GE food
crops planted (Benbrook, 2012). We undertook a study
to see if correlations existed between the rise of GE
crops, the associated glyphosate use and the rise in
chronic disease in the US.”
The bottom line?
“The significance and strength of the correlations show
that the effects of glyphosate and GE crops on human
health should be further investigated.”

Obasanjo should explain or clear himself here cause last I checked he was President. Why did FG want it announced in USA and not Nigeria?
Obasanjo being a US puppet will work against any development by the blackman, the imperialist USA has been actively seeking the depopulation of Africa, how then will they ever allow such development to succeed?

So you don't deny slavery in Africa u jst oppose the European kind of slavery?
You should read my earlier posts to understand my stand, i think the OP made a mistake by not defining slavery in the context which his arguments were presented, but if we are to cull our definition entirely from the European assault on continental Africa and therefore our conclusions formed thereof then i can say that slavery does not exist before the advent of Europeans.
CultureRe: Africans must Reject White Man's Version Of Our History by thoth: 2:19pm On Nov 11, 2014
I never believed that Africans never took part in slavery, and that argument was not the same with the original argument which the OP presented, what i was trying to say was that slavery does not exist before the Europeans which is what i understood the OP was trying to say and that slavery was created and propagated by Europeans, that's why he was asking for writings which precedes the Europeans.

Just like the west through conscious efforts of arming and training radicals which could otherwise would have been curtailed by their respective countries have created terrorism in the middle east. tomorrow someone who is not well informed will offhandedly ascribe terrorism to Arabs. i know terrorism and slavery are not the same but they have a lot in common if consider their origins.

It is either you do not understand what I've been saying or you needlessly want to perpetuate an argument that honestly doesn't have a point.
my stance since creation of this thread is to observe and hopefully could learn and get new infomation from many whom are more enlightened on this particular issue ,but their are grave assumptions which cannot just be allowed to slide or else we will be trapped in that same quagmire which we are seeking to be free of.
First our forefathers were not barbarians, they built great societies and such cannot possibly play the role the Europeans ascribed to them.
Secondly slavery in African terms is different from slavery in European terms so it is important that the two never be considered the same and for clarity sake;factoring what the term "slavery" has come to mean(Entirely European concept) it is acceptable to say that MOST of Africa never practiced slavery and the concept is entirely European.

thirdly, that slavery in the real European context would have never been known in Africa if we never had any contact with Europeans , no market exists without a demand (2nd statement still applies), syllogically Slavery, the market, the sustainance was entirely a European creation and such systems never existed before the advent of Europeans.

now tell me among all the references you made that which did not agree with at least two of the above statements and by extension the OP.

No, I don't get this part. Because, frankly there is nothing to get here. Europeans conquered and began to rule Africa only in the late 19th century. And by then most of the Europeans had already outlawed slavery, and were exploiting the continent in other forms. All the African writers I have pointed out produced their work before the conquest and (supposed) collusion of Africans. Equiano, Cugoano, Antera Duke, Granniosaw produced their writings in the 18th century before European colonization.

Explain to me why you think their testimonies are not valid.
You have clearly formed your arguments, based your conceptions, and has drawn your perceptions entirely from the European distorted history and this is exactly what GenBuhari was warning about, it is also evident in the way you patch your argument through, your choice of words and what those words MEAN to YOU which you dogmatically tries to impose on others as well.

Europeans outlawed Slavery eh? where did you learn that from ? the same Europeans i believe taught you that and you believed and celebrated it right ? Sorry Slavery was never outlawed rather it was instituted, the Europeans decided among leading families backed by their respective nations that in order to keep a helm on the mass exploitation that was going on that it was best to stop the export of labor resources and export resources instead since that is cheaper rest stressful and stupendously profitable so they organised and ENSLAVED THE WHOLE CONTINENTAL AFRICA!!!
God!! for someone who does not know his history you should not be in this discussion at all, have ever read about Congo under Belgium ?? the mass slaughter!! the amputations!! the extraditions !!! A whole kingdom turned into a PERSONAL PROPERTY of the sadist King Leopold!! A kingdom of slaves!!
You never heard of the area now known as Nigeria under the British domination ?? what really happened to the likes of Jaja of Opobo to name a few ?
Isn't this the same issue the OP was trying to raise, the whole European narrative does not make sense at all,we(i and you) need to dig deeper to the times before that or choose other narrative that at least is acceptable to common reason.
CultureRe: Africans must Reject White Man's Version Of Our History by thoth: 12:53pm On Nov 11, 2014

This is becoming absurd. Can we get over this non-issue already. It is unnecessary digression. There are European nations that never sent slave ships to Africa . They don't raise a storm when we talk about the 'European slave trade from Africa'. They do not go about insisting we do not use 'European' because they were never involved. Same goes for the Arabs. Not every Arab nation raided or traded in Africa. They don't lose it when we say 'Arab raiders' or 'Arab traders'. I can go on. Eastern Europe (except maybe for Russia) was not involved in the 19th-century European Imperialism. Thy don't protest when people say 'European imperialism', because they were not involved. Parts of Africa supplied slaves. Its right to call those slaves 'African slaves'. If you protest calling them 'African' because your part of Africa never supplied slaves, then suggest an alternative adjective. You do not expect writers to enumerate the names of the thousands of African groups that supplied slaves each time they say 'slaves'.

Where, oh where, did I refer to Arab writers? Cugoano (Akan), Equiano (Igbo), Granniosaw (from Bornu), Ayubba Suleiman Diallo (Fulani) were the African writers I referred to who experienced slavery and documented their experiences. How are they Arabs? undecided
It will be really hard to get you out of that corner you are stuffed in, Europeans whom did not take part in the raid did take part in the booty, African wealth developed Europe, they would not object from the term being used because due to the docility of Africans after colonialism they(Europeans) whose nations did not directly take part in the raids stands to benefit much from adopting such status, just like if you are called a king, and tributes being paid to you with all the respects that is accorded a king even without you ruling any kingdom you will never object, but when you are called a thief that is when you may object.
So Africans object while Europeans have no reason to.
Apart from Equiano ,i don't believe you do clearly understand the context on which all the other accounts were written, A well informed reader whom has read those works would shudder at your reference to them in this discussion.
Equiano on the other hand clearly described the circumstances on which he was kidnapped, and sold, he also clearly stated that slavery in African terms is totally different from slavery in the hands of a European, he said that slaves do no more work than their masters, has family, feeds well, and may even have slaves whom were also accorded those right which his master gave him, the only difference from a slave to freeborn is during traditional festival whereby representatives of families were the true sons of the male head of the family.
Many other African writer made almost similar inferences and all were astounded by the concept of European slavery.
Mind you that those who kidnapped Equiano has a well detail history of how the Europeans aided and armed them to kidnap slaves from the hinterland, You may have read yourself of many chiefs whom were deposed of their thrones by British funded and armed fugitives because they objected against slavery.

I fail to see what your problem with my comment is. The OP and other people who have commented here have consistently said 'Africa' and 'African' in connection with slavery. Can you calmly explain to me why my using the same word(s) others have used has been particularly upsetting to you? Why single out my own comment?

Parts of West Africa, Central Africa and East Africa were sources of slaves to Europeans. If I should refrain from using 'African', can you suggest an alternative all-encompassing term for the parts of the continent that supplied slaves?

What are we even dragging here? I simply do not understand. undecided
I think he is right in his objection to your choice of words because first you and othe posters including the OP are not supporting the same idea and your line of argument(very preposterous indeed) cannot be sanely applied to the whole that is under that classification.
its likened to OP saying Africans live in Africa and you saying Africans are white because some few north African Arabs has a lighter complexion.
secondly, you failed to factor the origin of the said African(Arab) writers when you refer to their writings, THEY ARE ARABS, and if we should be blunt they are not Africans, mind you they brought the first wave of barbarism into Africa during their invasion on Egypt, They also introduced slavery into the African phenomena by conquest and by religious ideologies. i have read many books of which just like the European they expressed strong racist views against people of darker complexions, the same people whom build world renowned civilizations that they invaded out of greed and opportunity to pillage it's wealth, the same Arabs which civilized Africans of the era knows as barbarians.

As a friend once said, the Arabs are not pure white so their barbarism is not top notch, it took the coming of the Europeans to elevate the misery of the African man to unimaginable levels.
I have always thought along the same line with GenBuhari on this issue but the absence of certain references has always held me from expressing it, The whole European Narrative of African History has never made any sense to begin with.

There is Benewende Sankara the opposition leader, also there is Nabere Honore Traore another of the popular opposition henchman, you also have the retired military general Kougame Lougue but you should know that Africans can has in many cases used legacy as a vector , so that means that they are not trustworthy till they actually act, besides a special envoy was sent by imperialist UN to Burkina Faso while the protest was going on so if that envoy is actually "special" enough which means that it will succeed in his task then any of these known names that finally leads the nation should not be trusted, besides they existed and even progressed in that corrupt system until they got stepped on. I received a Nightwatch dispatch this morning and i think i should post it as it is… it best describes my conclusion on this issue.

"Burkina Faso: After a politically confusing weekend, the head of the presidential guard regiment, Lt-Col Isaac Zida, has emerged as the transitional president of Burkina Faso. He received the backing of the army and its top leadership. On Friday, President Blaise Compaore announced his resignation, following violent protests at his attempt to extend his 27-year rule. He issued a statement that announced that the presidency was now vacant and urged elections within 90 days. Military chief and Compaore protégé General Honore Traore said he had taken over as head of state "in line with constitutional measures, " which he failed to identify. Subsequently, Zida's troops took control of key points in Ouagadougou and announced he was the head of a transitional government. The generals announced they supported him. Comment: Burkina Faso appears to have experienced a praetorian coup, in which the presidential guards replaced the president in the interest of preserving the underlying system of corrupt cronyism. Compaore fled to Cote D'Ivoire but his influence apparently remains strong. There will be more demonstrations."

I have always tried my best to explain to people that the society is corrupt, whether this condition favors you or goes against you depends on how well you understand the situation. In simpler words if the leaders are corruptible and the fulcrum is money that equally means that they will go with whomever holds the larger carrot or the BIGGER STICK meaning we can also use their corrupt nature to our advantage. We can always bribe, coerce, blackmail and deceive them FOR THE SAKE of the people.

To be honest with you i have been searching for a suitable curriculum for Nigerian and African history that will cater for nursery to senior secondary schools and when that is found one of those poisonous courses will be substituted for that.

Africans are inherently ignorant and docile, colonialism and its doctrines had a 450 years headstart before we could do anything, the imperialists has more money to influence, more media to disseminate and misinform, more fire power to coerce and impose than we can ever amass in the time available to us. From these observations i concluded that working WITH the people will always fail because they are not enlightened and will even turn against you, working FOR the people will always fail because they with their colonial mentality will make destructive choices. Working FOR THE SAKE of the people is what have always worked in this sort of situation. A small unit of well enlightened citizens taking the vanguard and TOWING the people with them.

Hope you understand that, though a strategy that asks for condemnation but the end justifies the means.

Teaching your kids at home is good for them individually but i have a firm believe that such measure will not achieve anything except divisions and disunity from the very few who knew the truth and the majority who did not, it becomes clear after you have seen things from a social psychology point of view, the minority whom are enlightened among a society cannot influence the majority whom are unenlightened or change their views on things IF and only IF there exists a group(USA) external to the society working in opposition to such influence, as long as the external pressure and support to sustainable ignorance persists the minority's task will remain impossible and they being the abnormal or unconventional part of the society as they are being portrayed might even face extinction. In the Africans case the IF is plainly persistent.

On these same lines we should strive to make use of our school because it is OUR school to teach our history not the whitemans school to teach his false history, the reason for that is that it will enlighten more at a time and create the unity of mind and ideas which we Africans lack and therefore singularity of purpose. If this can be achieved you will see how easy it is to defeat neocolonialism. extremely easy.

For my Analysis on the how ideas are sustained in the society i will give an anecdote which we as Nigerians can identify with.
In Nigeria, if a group of people decides to go and burn, destroy certain oracle and its shrine they readily gets support from the society, without asking why people will condemn the oracle as a fetish and many other negative labels, the alien idea is completely and thoroughly instilled on the majority that asking why should one burn down a 600 year old shrine is almost a crime on its own. so people will troop, chanting Christian songs and the shrine gets destroyed. Now if you ever bring up the idea of burning down a church you will find out that you have almost zero support and heavy opposition, infact you risk your life by even mentioning such views.

Rewind back 600 years ago when we practice our religion, if you and your friends go out there and burn down a church you will be celebrated as a warrior and its easy to get support for such missions , at that same period if you ever mention burning down a shrine you will be executed instantly.

these are same people though different times, so ask yourself what has changed ?? the answer is Education. so we have to fight to BRING EDUCATION BACK TO OUR SIDE.

Adding to the details above , the main importance is to be attached to how we analyze our news and less on how we get our news, in order to build such capabilities it is extremely important that Africans should be educated on their history, the relationships between them(Africans) and other groups which has come into contacts with them, the detailed outcome of such relationships and how it affected the present conditions of the Black African people.

Information analysis is not rocket science as it only needs common sense and basic awareness serving as a base on which our conclusions are formed. It is those historical knowledge that will serve as guidelines while sifting truth from lies, it is those historical knowledge that will help in identifying certain patterns in the news that helps us to accept or reject a certain statement or proclamation as truth.

As Noblezone rightly pointed out all these nations and their media has their own interests at heart therefore it will not be advisable to accept their claims based on sentiments alone, besides their interests may change tomorrow, but again there is always a percentage of truth in any publication either from that which it directly implies or from the facts which it omits, it is in such exercises that a sound knowledge of our history becomes useful, armed with such knowledge we can not only know what has been directly implied or what has been omitted but also discern the ulterior motives of each party propagating such information.

A citizen who is aware of IMF/World Bank SAP(Structural Adjustment Programs) during the Babangida era, the destructive effects of currency devaluation on life quality and wealth creation, the huge profits that western multinationals reaped from such programs leaving Nigerians desperate and creating millions of poor masses overnight would not only suspect at first instance any intrusion into Nigerian economy by World Bank/IMF whether directly or through their agents but also will be forced to think and try to establish patterns in any future advise given by such organizations before accepting such advice, A citizen that is not aware of such information on the other hand will just be swayed or intimidated by a motely of white people with big sounding PHDs and foolishly accept the poisons they administer.

Without national history studies in school or no Direct experience of Racism and Discrimination 98% of Nigerian Adults will never make sense of what you are saying, it is very disheartening witnessing the ignorance of most Africans and arrogance with which they defend it with. I am in Nigeria since last month and witnessed for myself how they die so carelessly and remain indifferent to the causes and i wonder if we are truly cursed.
About 90% of Nigerians does not know our true relationship with white people since first contact, if you try to discuss colonialism they'd tell you that colonialism is all about how some good white people came to us with Bibles and stopped us from our barbarous ways, killing twins and worshipping idols, they brought education to us and OPENED OUR eyes, the most painful part is that they will tell you that we killed many white people even though they are trying to help us. Don't be alarmed, this is what the school teaches them, the church and even their parents, so how can they be aware of the real world which they live in, how can they make sense of your warnings with such monunental ignorance serving as a fallback on which they analyse their perceptions of events that happen around them. it's really sad.
PoliticsRe: Reps Approve 71 Amendments To Nigerian Constitution by thoth: 6:26pm On Oct 16, 2014
It is now self evident for all enlightened readers that this amendments were a safety loop created to perpetuate corrupt and unpopular policies, it is clear that the amendment was crafted for no other purpose than to weaken the powers of the president from obstructing devious policies which multinationals will want to force down his throat, observing the probability that a man like Buhari might turn out to be president tomorrow, it would probably be an uphill task for him to implement positive popular policies and even harder to obstruct unpopular policies fielded by agents of imperialism.

Intimidation into compliance at the local government level which would undermine the policies of any sitting Governor of any state can now be effectively carried out now these amendments are in place. I feel sorry for this country.
