GenBuhari: Al Mustapha has hand in Abacha's murder.

1. He had was in the position to allow Abacha's security to be breached by those who eventually poisoned him.

2. He assisted Abdulsalami Abubakar who proved to be an enemy of Abacha and who is very close to IBB to succeed Abacha.

AlMustapha is probably a CIA agent lik IBB and OBJ are.

EducationRe: GRE & TOEFL Testing Suspended In Nigeria by thoth: 1:10am On Nov 09, 2013
Haha, they are slowly squeezing the blood out of Nigerians, it is really funny that people here don't see what is happening and they naturally find something in themselves to criticize.

Neighboring nations chasing you out,
Government employs IMF agents and they borrowing and squandering the nation to hell,
nations all over the world starting to protest over you on common things,
Now they banned you from moving out to study based on some erroneous security claims,

Brothers you are slowly being tagged a terrorist country, and when all are in place you will witness the fate of Yugoslavia.

I can see a news written somewhere describing the bad security situation in Nigeria and they will chip in a line like " last November GRE and TOEFL test were suspended due to fears of terrorist attack....." hahaha , do you know the credence such lines gives to what they were saying? do you now how it makes a foreigner who does not know about Nigeria feel about who is saying the truth ?

They did not stop tests in the North, nor the middle belt but on the whole nation. Your government does not care, the people does not care, why should anybody care.

Afam4eva: When citizens go all out to protest the expulsion of foreigners from their country, calling themselves racists and getting support from important personalities in government then you know the country is serious about getting rid of foreigners. This is the Israel that a lot of people don't know about. I can tell you that all Arab countries tend to be more welcoming than Israel yet it's the Arabs that are always being taunted in the media and by people all over the world.
So true. wait till the Christians start defending them, these people mock and discriminate Christians in their country,
RomanceRe: The Right Time To Ask My Boyfriend For Rent Money? by thoth: 3:54am On Nov 02, 2013
I sincerely think the OP is more realistic and more forthright than these hypocrites all over these forum trying to claim what they are not.
She has been putting forward sensible realistic life questions which are common and by statistics have higher occurrence and therefore a reliable base for one to formulate his actions on than majority of the people here whom are only trying to sound westernized or "seen it all" . i have not seen anyone reply his questions directly rather they throw about some insults and overused cliches which does not inform us any better.

I have only this to say to the OP as a man,

Don't ever make a request that is clearly too big for your man.
Wait till your gut tells you to make your move, you will know the right time to ask for anything.
Know that your boyfriend is a human being, a man, and there are certain expectations he has of you as a woman (whether what society thinks is right or wrong is not my concern),
You are in a game, there is no point being innocent about it, play your card well and you will get what you want.

here is my most important advice...never ask this sort of question in nairaland again, here is filled with fakes and people who wants to show off how oyibonised and superior they are than you.

i wish you good luck.

When Nigerians finally wake up, when they have experienced enough misery to put aside their tribalism, religious fanaticism, bigmanism and other ills and concepts that they use to support whomever they support, when they start using reason instead of sentiments, at that time there would be no Nigeria left to salvage.

alnaijiri: On a per-capita basis, the scientific output of India is minimal. But even if there are the occasional bright spots from the Hindus, their society is unfit for human life; poverty in India outpaces that of Africa, cruelty and injustice abounds in that pagan eyesore.

For centuries now, the so-called "Muslim World" has abandoned the proper scholarship of Islamic jurisprudence. That's why I'm calling for a renaissance for Islam. The ones that are calling for terrorism in the name of jihad are not properly educated according to the thousand-year tradition of Islamic scholarship and decision-making. Back when Islam was properly applied (Golden Age of Islam), the Islamic Nation led the world in scientific, economic, and social innovations.

Africans are for the most part pagans, even those who say they're Xian or Muslims. Dependence on magic and superstition as well as a complete disregard for reasoning and scholarship are what paganism has been about, and those things are still what African Xianity or Islam is about today. African religion is African paganism with different names for the deities. At least for the most part Westerners aren't pagans in this sense of the word. They may be shamelessly hedonists, but they're not overly superstitious and do take initiative (effective ones, not juju) to make changes to better their lot.

Paganism is the part of the African mentality that has been keeping us behind as a continent. The light of Islam is needed here, nothing else can shine the light so we can stop groping in the dark.
Sorry..that's all i can say to you.

PoliticsRe: The Nigeria I Met by thoth: 2:03am On Oct 30, 2013
There is something that people fail to observe when making these accusations, any society adapts to the policies introduced by its leaders, we africans had always had our way of doing things and our values, it has nothing to do with technology nor can one relate it in anyway with advancement. It will preposterous to say something like “the moral values of a given society is inversely proportional to its level of development” or form any sort of link on that basis thereof.

I believe that a certain world elite needs to remodel the society to suit its capitalistic needs, so from an early period these groups using nations under their control has promoted and fostered waywardness, selfishness, greed, lack of self-control, individualism among the people of more cultured nations. They castigate humility, they glamorize greed and individuality, on those nations where the leaders vehemently opposed such encroachment unto the bonding fabric of its society they forcefully impose it through many covert subversive measures. Some were overthrown and some were assassinated.

Great sounding clichés are attached to these loose moral values which makes them attractive and good behavior is labeled as timid, people who strive to enforce excellent moral values are classified as living in the 60's and so on.

So the people of most third world countries incapacitated by the prevalent inferiority complex adopts these lifestyle with the idea that it can make them something better.

A clear example of the insidious nature of such encroachments is that most books people read teach them to be selfish and abhors anything that has to deal with mutual respect and sustenance of the COMMUNITY. Clichés like “get rich or die trying” ,”Money is good even if comes in shitty bags” “ a cookie stolen tastes better than one bought” etc when used is supposed to make the person wiser...really ?

These days the leaders who oppose taboos like homosexuality and public display of lewd acts, overly suggestive dressing are castigated by certain groups and nations and insulted that they still live in the 40's, we like how those clichés sound so we all join in echoing them, tomorrow when such leaders has been defeated and such lifestyle adopted you will have another thread being open with a title like “ The Nigeria I met use to have better moral values and their men use to be more loyal to their spouse” or something of sort.

I believe I have digressed a bit but this is a very large topic. Anyway think loose morals....think unencumbered Capitalism and neo-liberal groups.

Christianity EtcRe: Why Is African Traditional Religion Seen As Demonic? by thoth: 4:02am On Oct 25, 2013
The irony is in reality the most potent curses and spiritual attacks I have seen have always involved Christian black magic and kabbalistic solomonic elements. When my friend was building his house in his village, anytime he starts his building he gets really sick and his laborers will either get sick or have motorcycle or car accident. It was terrible and it happened several times that we no longer believed it is just coincidence. Now I was born and bred in France, at that time I sincerely don't believe in this sort of things because studying colonial history in school we were taught that Africans believes in some silly non potent charms and that contributed to their lost of most anti-colonial wars.
Anyway that fateful December, I was in Nigeria and he consulted a native doctor who is related to him, immediately we went to the building site and the man asked my friend to dig at a certain location. Many people will not believe this(especially the Christian fanatics) but what was dugged out in two locations was :
1: a bottle with a crucifix inside it and some papers, and something like ash inside.
A piece of cloth(my friends) which was wrapped with a torn page of psalms from the bible.
My friends old picture with a pentagram drawn over it with some brownish ink(maybe blood)
among others.

2; white sand with a small coffin with crucifix tied over and over with a black thread.

Once these two bunched were burnt my friend continued building his house and we never heard any problems. To this day I have not been able to fathom how they managed to get a huge crucifix like that into the bottle.
I am skeptic until then, maybe I am ignorant because of the environment I found myself , maybe I have been dumbed down by the religion I was born into, But my question is how can you relate any of those objects to African Traditional Religion ?
I have witnessed some really demonic events all over Europe and all of them has to do with one or more Christian objects.

Henry120: Amisom troops from uganda, burundi and kenya face an insurgency in somalia, which is almost on the scale as what NATO coalition troops faced after the invasion of IRAQ.

Great job does troops are doing in somalia. They've succeeded in pushing shabaab militants from the capital, mogadishu and all other major port cities. Even though shabaab militants control large, mostly desert parts of somalia, a functioning government has finally been setup after 20 years.
meaning Nigerians has finally carried out their orders from their neo-colonialist masters quite well.

i don't think he would. a united nation is very hard to invade. in fact it is stupid to invade a nation that is united at the top. you can not even win such war even if you had all the armaments in the world.

the truth is that the imperialist will not just waltz in and shoot somebody, it is his own people that would sell him out , either shoot him themselves or produce a reason for the enemies to kill him.

Just as Lumunba's close friend whom he trusted Mobutu Seseko murdered him. I use to wonder what these "Imperialists" tell these guys that always makes them to betray their best friends, great-grandfathers that fought for their land, their nations, the continents and its billions of inhabitants.
Maybe Africans are just dumb, maybe we really don't deserve this continent with all its blessings or maybe we need to be just wiped out of this continent and have more intelligent race make good use of it.

shymexx: Honestly, I don't owe you an explanation for what I said but I'll just do it because you seem like a nice chap and one of the few Igbo posters that I rate on here. The rest can take it how they want - I don't give fvcks about their opinions. Cap28 and Igbo2011 are the other two. Especially Igbo2011 - because I've chatted to him a few times offline and he's a decent bloke. However, you should be able to discern why I said "Igbotic" to the OP and the context in which I used it, if you're familiar with the OP's antecedents. The guy is as fake and phony as a £2 note. There's always an agenda behind everything he talks about and I can see through his shenanigans.

...........................................................................................................................
Well, that's what nollywood is doing to Nigeria. Yet this dolt referenced it as an example of how not to copy foreign things because a peasant somewhere was influenced to speak Igbo by nollywood. And that was why I used Igbotic as the right adjective to qualify his thought-process.
Well, I took my time to go through his posts somewhere else and I can see why you felt the way you did towards him, you do understand that many people has established certain reputations in nairaland (including you) and I am really not judging anyone.
However I would like it if you would approach people's post with more open mind though keeping their character in the background, many people will learn new things from sincere contributors whom may not share the same motives as the OP. Bringing resentment from issues in other thread into a new one which might be promising does not say good about you and might appear to a certain group(igbos in this case) as if you were against all of them rather than just one of them. You do have all right though to bash anyone if they become rather uncivil with their post.

To the topic...I have hated(literal meaning) Nollywood, I have hated it with all I got, even the name itself is very condescending, back in the early nineties when I first heard the name Nollywood my friend as if he knew what was on my mind asked why can't we call it another name, why must we come off as second rate. Anyway then they had good movies, Taboo, Things Fall Apart, Living in Bondage, those movies then did not have the high end CG's of the west nor the charm of European movies but it has something which is us in it, we can identify with it and it is African in its whole because the basic platform by which Africans tell stories is to teach or promote a certain moral value that is in contrast with the west whereby the story is just told for the fun and adrenaline pump it generates.
That attribute that defined its Africaness went on with most well thought out movies that followed until the late 90's and everything became messed up, I can still proudly watch taboo or living in bondage with my African/ African American friends and they can also relate to the values it strives to imbibe on its viewers.
The funny thing is that once you talk about Censorship people will cry for something they usually describe as “Freedom” , I am still yet to understand that though.

PoliticsRe: Nigerians, Please Slow Down On Copying Foreign Things by thoth: 6:08am On Oct 13, 2013
Alfa Seltzer: I believe in examples. Give me one single private corporation in USA that is a monopoly.
When I say “MONOPOLU RULES” I did not say that the law directly supports Monopoly rather what I mean is that such is the structure which the system thrives on. They don’t throw it in your face but it is there.
Sort of saying that Nigeria practices Democracy because it has all the outward contraptions which democracy is defined with but if I ask you does it truly practice democracy what would your answer be ?
The same is what I meant on American business.
PoliticsRe: Nigerians, Please Slow Down On Copying Foreign Things by thoth: 5:48am On Oct 13, 2013
Alfa Seltzer: This is why the USA remains above the so called "smart" nations. Individual freedom and competition. Do you know that in US, you must create competition for yourself if nobody else is competing with you? People need to start trusting in themselves and the human capacity to advance instead of limiting ourselves through some misguided "smartness".
This is really horseshit. I don't know how they made you to believe such insensible things, maybe you are caught with the glamor that you fail to see the real USA, In USA MONOPOLY RULES, what you hear everyday is congress passing some laws to give some corporation more powers to exploit the people, you see mergers almost every week, in fact it is even strange hearing somebody say this. Do you even know that almost all the news media in North America is owned by less than 4 people and these are thousands of small companies that most of the time has been violently acquired.
PoliticsRe: Nigerians, Please Slow Down On Copying Foreign Things by thoth: 5:37am On Oct 13, 2013
Alfa Seltzer: The west is advancing faster than other because the west understood one thing: if your culture is drawing you back, abandon it.

Even the Chinese you mentioned are currently abandoning their culture and copying the westerners. Community living should not infringe on individual liberties. If China thinks it's doing its country a big service by blocking foreign media, it's got another think coming. Those that really want to watch CNN will watch it. Others just travel outside and see the same thing. Censorship never works and unless your culture evolves and adapts, it is doomed.
You really do not understand culture and the west has never abandoned its culture because it has no unique culture it can call its own rather it is a fusion of cultures. for example, Nigerians believe Americans talk in a certain way but the truth is that what they perceive as American style of talking is actually the African American style of talking which came about from the prevalence illiteracy of the slaves and the cultures they brought with them from Africa, that manner of talking is frowned upon in most American societies.

Community is simply community and nothing else, it has a fundamental purpose that it serves in the protection and welfare of the society and its structure. Community can not infringe on the Individual right of any citizen if that citizens expresses its right within the bounds acceptable by the Community which it is part of.
Infringement has never been my interest, what I am trying to say on the other hand is that community ceases to function when the individual ceases to participate in it or stops playing its role in the society. Nobody has ever stopped a gay man from having sex with his fellow man in private, people have sex with their wives and girlfriends every minute but in privacy. What society rejects is throwing such lifestyle in its face, imagine gay pride parades, men kissing each other in public etc. Now individualism comes into play when the community reacts and you see the brainwashed coconuts tell you that “they are not kissing you so what is your problem” or “they are not forcing you to join them to be gay so what is your problem” or “they are just parading...so you should mind your business” or “it is within their rights to parade so you should not disturb them”.
All which they learn from the American standards of rationalization.

that is what I meant by that.

China is not copying western style, the Chinese are promoting their culture.
On censorship, if you understand how human minds work in a group(crowd) then you will see the importance and benefits of censorship, that is something most nations have studied that Africans have not. They know that people watch those stations but that is not the point, the effect of that it institutes the notion that to be a good Chinese you should stay away from such views propagated by these nations, again it gives the right to first hearing, meaning that they become the first to impart their view on their people before the west and that results that the people will judge whatever they hear from the west in relation to preset notions(those the Chinese government earlier fed them) , in most cases the first idea to take roots becomes the accepted idea. (eg; African fighting to protect their culture)

you can read “The Crowd: A Study of the Popular Mind
Book by Gustave Le Bon” if you have the time.
PoliticsRe: Nigerians, Please Slow Down On Copying Foreign Things by thoth: 4:33am On Oct 13, 2013
As you rightly observed the former governments was active in protecting the fabric of the society from these assaults but it is sad that we no longer has those kind of governments now.

Erasing local cultures is one of the imperatives and necessary conditions for an ultra capitalist system to thrive, these systems being quite exploitative and relying on human greed, selfishness, consumerism, corruption and lack of self control sees the *African local values as a threat to properly bringing the nation into the capitalist sphere for exploitation, the answer to that is bombarding these nations with Suggestive Psychological Manipulations which they most likely not being prepared for such intrusions unconsciously accepts.

Many Governments still protect their nations from such psychological invasions though the imperialist would like to interpret it as something else. Libya used to block certain foreign TV and radio stations from its masses, china still does, you can’t watch MTV, BBC, CNN in china.

Nothing is more damaging than the promotion of individuality, Individualism, the sort being promoted all over the world seeks to foster the thought that every man is for himself, it tries to cancel the importance of the community which is the strength of the nation. That is why statements like “It is his life and you can’t tell him how to live it” or “that is his body not yours and he wears what he likes on it” can be rationalized.

Again is the notion that anything western is modern and what we have is not, an even more bizarre concept is the extension of modernity to culture, Now we have a “modern culture” and people strive to be modern or at least identify with this modern culture. In truth culture can not be modern; any well read fellow knows that, the reality is that they adopt an alien culture which has been unconsciously suggested to them as the definition of modernity.

You can try to ask them this question; is this your modern culture your culture or a borrowed culture? If it is a borrowed culture then how can you say it is a modern culture since it is not even your culture at all.

I guarantee you none of them will try to answer your question rather they will tell you that you enjoy white man’s phone and computer, you live in white mans land and use his internet and you spew crap. That is the level we found our nation and its people in and it is very sad.

*1; not only Africans, Arabs, South Americans and Asian cultures share the same attribute of putting the community above individual interest and try to promote self-control in the interest of the society.
